1 Samuel 12:20–22 (NKJV): Then Samuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. 21 And do not turn aside; for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing. 22 For the Lord will not forsake His people, for His great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you His people.
The bedrock of our hope is here, God has saved us for His Great Name's sake... He has not saved us because we did not sin, or because we chose Him, or because we remained faithful... if that had been the reason, we would have NO reason to be secure, no reason to expect good, no reason to not live in terror... but instead the scripture confesses over and over that we have hope because God Himself is faithful, and He has chosen us because He was pleased to choose us. He tells us not to not fear, and to not turn aside for all else is worthless... to remember that because He is His own reason, He is also OUR reason. Our hope is in this fact, He will not, does not, CANNOT ever change His mind. Dear precious child, do not let your failures keep you from Him, instead turn TOWARD God, trust His faithful goodness, trust that He will forgive you, and that He will restore you. It pleased Him then, and it still pleases Him now to make us His own!!
