Christ will search for His sheep and deliver them! There is Biblical comfort found in Ezekiel 34 for all those scattered by the spirit of Diotrephes--Christ will search for His sheep: [4-6] "The weak you have not strengthened, nor have you healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back what was driven away, nor sought what was lost; but with force and cruelty you have ruled them. So they were scattered because there was no shepherd; and they became food for all the beasts of the field when they were scattered. My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill; yes, My flock was scattered over the whole face of the earth, and no one was seeking or searching for them." [9-12] "Therefore, O shepherds, hear the word of the Lord! Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require My flock at their hand; I will cause them to cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more; for I will deliver My flock from their mouths, that they may no longer be food for them. For thus says the Lord God: Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out My sheep and deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on a cloudy and dark day."
Deliver us from the spirit of Diotrephes! May Christ deliver the Church from the spirit of Diotrephes and raise up many shepherds with the heart of Barnabas. J.C. Ryle said "Our Lord has many weak children in his family, many dull pupils in his school, many raw soldiers in his army, many lame sheep in his flock. Yet he bears with them all, and casts none away. Happy is that Christian who has learned to do likewise with his brethren."
Diotrephes and Church Dictators are Dangerous! “I haven't been in the Lord's work too long, but I've learned this much in the short time that I've been in it: much of the distress and the cause for division in churches has very little to do with doctrine. Sometimes that's the facade that is used to mask, in hypocrisy, personality clashes and problems with other people. Diotrephes and church dictators are dangerous people. Let me say that we should never ever underestimate how a resident dictator can damage a church - do you know why? Because such leadership grieves the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus Christ is the only Head of the church. Col. 1:18 says: 'He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence'- He is to be Lord in the assembly, no one else!” -from a message preached by David Legge on 3 John
Sola Scriptura A very truthful message. Salvation begins the interest and study of the Scriptures.
For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
Great blessing. This sermon was like a balm for my soul. What a great and powerful God we have! We must fear nothing when we walk with Him. At the same time, I thought that a temptation for a preacher can be the thought that he knows many things from another preacher or from a theologian, but the essential thing, as this sermon states, is that the preacher should know God!
