About Us

San Mateo Grace Church is a home church dedicated to preaching Christ.

GOD IS SOVEREIGN
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Creator of all things, God rules and reigns over all things—including the hearts and minds of men, for the king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. (Gen 1:1; Prov 21:1; Col 1:16-17; Rev 4:11) (See also 1 Sam 2:2-10)

TRINITY
God the Father, God the Son ("the Word") and God the Holy Ghost are one God, "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." (1 Jn 5:7)

JESUS CHRIST
Christ Jesus is God manifest in flesh. Conceived in a virgin upon whom came the Holy Ghost, He is both fully God and fully man—yet without sin. Offering Himself as the one sacrifice for sins for ever, He has made a way for men to be united with God through faith in Him. Jesus is the brightness of God's glory and the expressed image of God's person. All of Scripture testifies of Him. He is the only way by which men might come to God, neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby they must be saved. He is the one mediator between God and men. "He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son of God hath not life." (1 Jn 5:12) In Him and only in Him is life eternal. (Ps 40:7, Isa 7:14; Matt 1:20; Jn 1:4, 5:39, 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 Tim 2:5, 3:16; Heb 1:3, 4:15, 10:12; 1Jn 3:5, 5:20)

MAN
Man (created by God in the image of God) has ever been subject to the Sovereignty of God and is therefore absent "free will." Though once in fellowship with God, since Adam ("one man") sinned, all men (not in Christ) are in bondage to sin and Satan and cannot please God, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Rom 3:23) There is no contradiction between the Sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man. All men are accountable to a sovereign God and will be judged by Him. (Gen 1:27; Rom 6:16-22, 9:19-20; Eph 2:1-6; Rev 20:11-15)

SIN
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Rom 5:12) All men stand justly condemned by God due both Adam's sin (for they were in the loins of Adam when he sinned) and due their own sins. (Rom 3:23; Heb 7:5-10)

SALVATION
Simply stated, salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. "For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Rom 6:23) Though justly condemned by a righteous God, God has made a Way to justify men through faith in His Son Jesus Christ, "For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." (2 Cor 5:21) In an act of unmerited love, mercy, and grace, God imputes the sins of His people to Christ Jesus and imputes the righteousness of God to them—by faith. Jesus as the God-man bore the sins of His people on the cross, was crucified suffering the wrath of God on their behalf, died, and was raised again for their justification. (Rom 4:25, 5:6-10) "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." (Jn 3:19)

Of Himself Jesus said, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" (Jn 11:25-26)

THE CHURCH
The Church is the body of Christ and consists of believers elect and loved of God from before the foundation of the world. Believers whom God hath set apart unto Himself—saving them by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost. Not by works of righteousness which they have done, but according to His mercy which He shed on them abundantly through Jesus Christ their Saviour. Christ is the Head (King) of His Church and has established a theocratic organizational structure where men lead His congregation as Pastors, Elders, and Deacons, ever serving for their spiritual edification and growth. (Jn 17:24-26; Eph 1:4, 4:11-14; Col 1:18; 2 Thes 2:13; 1 Tim 2:11-13, 3:1-13, Titus 3:5-6)

BAPTISM
Baptism (by immersion in water) is a public profession of faith in Christ and typifies the believer's union with Christ and their identification with His death, burial, and resurrection. (Rom 6:3-5; 1 Pet 3:21)

THE LORD'S SUPPER
The Lord's Supper is observed by believers in remembrance of Christ Jesus' death. The bread symbolizes His body which was broken for His people, the wine, His blood of the New Testament which was shed for the remission of their sins. It shall be observed until He returns. (Matthew 26:26-29, 1 Cor 11:23-27)

THE BIBLE
The Bible is the word of God, a completed collection of sixty-six books under one cover united in its Gospel message. Written by God through the agency of divinely inspired men it is without error and is authoritative in every respect—able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. God has providentially preserved the Bible over the years as manifest in the Greek Textus Receptus and the Hebrew Ben Chayyim Masoretic Text—which were best translated into English as read in the King James Bible. (Ps 12:6-7; 2 Tim 3:15-16; 2 Pet 1:21; Rev 22:18-19)
