The misuse and abuse of our Lord Jesus at the hands of men is an astonishment.
In our world, no king, no leader, no ruler would think of sacrificing his life to save his people. Yet our Lord Jesus did just that - the King of all Glory and Creator humbled Himself and became obedient unto death. He did not demand His people die to save Him, as secular rulers often do. Rather, He laid down His life to save His subjects, His creatures, His people!
But that he should suffer the abuse that He took for us is beyond comprehension!
His meekness and lowliness of heart is so unlike the conduct of our rulers. They are proud and arrogant and boastful and closely guarded, and their honor and esteem is upheld by PR flaks and "handlers."
But Christ, though the Almighty, deigned to expose Himself by taking into union with His deity our humanity. He delivered Himself to be exposed stripped of privilege and prerogative - to face His enemies, His created ones, and to be abused by them!
It was foretold by Isaiah that our Savior would not hide His face from shame and spitting, and would submit to beatings. Yet He would be God Himself manifest to us, and He would not be ashamed!
His humiliation was not because He was seen as a nobody - we are all familiar with that sort of treatment.
But in Christ's case, He was mistreated BECAUSE of who He is. It was when His kingship and His deity were announced, during His trials, that the Jews and Gentiles both derided and abused and spit upon Him.
What a wonder that the all-powerful Creator God should submit Himself to such indignity at the hands of His rebellious creatures.
But He did it all to save His loved ones!
