God's grace is His unearned and unmerited goodness to us. Our salvation is all of His doing, and none of our own. Christ's death for sinners is the greatest free gift, received by faith by poor undeserving sinners.
To the believer, God's grace continues unabated. Some claim that, to receive His blessings, we must be obedient, and in His will.
This is false. God is always good to His loved ones, no matter what we may do or think.
The problem is, we don't recognized God's grace - often, we despise it!
We all have experience giving a gift to someone who does not appreciate it. But Jesus assured us that God knows how to give good gifts!
The principle is very simple: ALL THINGS work together for good to those who love God. That means that everything God is doing to us and through us and in us is gracious, for it works to our good!
Paul goes on to describe how, even when we are slain for Christ's sake, we are conquerors. No matter what happens to us, God uses it to bring us total victory in Christ.
The context of the New Testament is not like we have it in America today. Then, Christians were persecuted, treated miserably, put to death. We might complain that God wasn't being very gracious to them, yet the Scriptures are full of protestations of joy and exultation in the Grace of God!
Whatever God brings our way is a blessing, yet so often we view it incorrectly.
Christ's death is the best example: His disciples saw the grace of Christ's ministry - healings, feedings, etc. But when He died, for them all the grace stopped. How could Jesus' death be a good thing?
Now we know it was the ultimate gracious act by God to save poor sinners!
