Acts 2:41-47 - Does the Bible Promote Socialism?
Series The Acts of the Risen Lord
Luke's summary passage at the end of Peter's Pentecost sermon describes three things:
- The evangelistic impact of gospel preaching and Christian living
- A foundational apostolic pattern for worship in the early church
- A radical sharing of resources that shows up at other times in Acts as well.
There's plenty to say about the first two topics, and then in the process of addressing the third, we must address the question, "Does the Bible (and especially the NT) promote Socialism?" We hear that proclaimed loudly today, and the proponents could not be more mistaken.
The radical giving demonstrated in the early church should absolutely challenge today's church, but we should not allow ungodly forces to convince us to give up the concept of private property simply because of their twisted interpretation of the Scriptures.
