If you will this morning, turn
in your Bibles to Luke chapter 5, and we will be reading Luke
chapter 5, 1 through 9. And it came to pass that as the
people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by
the lake of Gennesaret and saw two ships standing by the lake,
but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their
nets. And he entered into one of the
ships, which was Simon's, and prayed to him that he would thrust
out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the
people out of the ship. Now when he had left speaking,
he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep and let down your
nets for a drought. And Simon answering said unto
him, Master, we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing.
Nevertheless, at thy word, I will let down the net. And when they
had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes and
their net break. And they beckoned unto their
partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and
help them. And they came and filled both
the ships so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw
it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me, for I
am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all
that were with him, at the drought of the fishes which they had
taken. Let us pray. Dear Heavenly Father, we thank
you, Lord, for bringing us here once again to worship Thee. Thank
you for keeping those who have traveled here safely to come
and worship Thee. We thank you, Lord, for the message
that was brought to us this morning, how beautiful it was to hear
how faithful you truly are and how much you love us, Lord. Please
make this message no different. Let us hear thy faithfulness.
Let us hear thy gospel, Lord. It should be thy will. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen. If you turn back with me to Luke
5, where David read for us this morning. I want to paint for
you the setting that we have before us. Our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ walked down to the seashore And as he saw, he had
a bunch of multitudes of people following him. And so he saw
Peter and those that had been fishing all night, and they were
washing their nets because they were finished. They were going
to put their nets away because they were finished. So Jesus
told Peter to push his boat out a little bit from shore so that
Jesus could address all the people there. They stood on the bow
of the ship and started to teach to them and preach to them the
gospel. And then when he got done speaking, he turned back
to Peter and he said to Peter, Go out fishing again. Now, that's that's an amazing
thing, he says, launch out into the deep and let down your nets
for a drought. He instructs Peter who was the
master fisherman. Peter had fished this lake his
whole life as a fisherman. Peter, this was his wheelhouse,
so to speak. This is where his expertise was.
He knows where the fish are biting there. He knows where the schools
of fish are. He's toiled all night. He and
the other, they've toiled all night. Jesus tells him to get
back in the boat and go out and go fishing again. Those nets
that you've cleaned, put them back in and go out there and
go fishing. And the very first thing that Peter says, as I would
venture to say, is the very first thing you and I would say is
we would show our unbelief. Because don't we know better
than the Lord? And Simon answering said unto
him in verse five, Master, we've toiled all the night and we've
taken nothing. We've caught nothing. I know
what that means. I've done this long enough. That
means you wash off your nets. You call it a day because the
Lord didn't bless it. But then something miraculously
happens in the midst of unbelief. Faith comes and he says something. Nevertheless, you're going to
hear me say that word a lot today. Nevertheless, in spite of what
I know, in spite of my intellect, in spite of what I see. Nevertheless,
at thy word. Nevertheless, this is what your
word said to me, and I will do it. You said to do it, I will
do it. And dear ones, the only way you
and I will ever say that, nevertheless, is if we are given the same gift
of faith that Peter was given. Right in the midst of unbelief. Is anything too hard for the
Lord? He proves that to us over and
over every day. And for Peter, Peter, as I said,
he's an expert. He knows it's a waste of time. But he has followed his Lord.
And faith credits the word of God. It credits his word. It lays hold of Christ. It says,
give me Christ or I will die. And the words that came from
my Savior, I must live by those words. And what was just missing,
the Lord imparted to him. He blessed him with faith to
say, Lord, I've taken it nevertheless at your word. I'm going to let
down my net. I'm going to go right back out
there, right where I was, and I'm going to throw that net over
the side. And I'm going to go to go efficient.
And dear ones, as I said, the valuable lesson that the Lord
has for us is always in reference to the word of God. The Lord
tells us he has given us his word. We have so many things
we go to in this life. The Internet has become our friend.
We go there a lot to find out what's wrong with us or what's
wrong with our car or what's wrong. Dear ones, we need to
hear his voice. The child of God must hear from
his shepherd. His shepherd has all wisdom.
His shepherd is wisdom. So we need to hear from him.
Romans 3, 4, the beginning of that is, you know what that is?
Let God be true and let every man be a liar. Because that's
what we are. We don't have the ability to
be true without the truth. And when the Lord said to him,
you go and you do this, our unbelief would be right there with him.
Well, Lord, we've been here many times. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how many times
you've been there. He's sovereign. He's not bound
by time. He's not bound by anything that
we put our restrictions upon ourselves. Faith doesn't. It
looks to him. It looks to the one who we leave
our intellect, we leave our knowledge, we live no matter no matter how
important it is, no matter what man has said it. God said, let
me be true and let every man be a liar. And dear ones, when
you go to the doctor's office and they give you a verdict,
on what they think is wrong with you, you've got to hear it from
Him. You have to. There's too much
doubt in this world. Too much doubt in you. We know
too much. We think we know. His ways are
higher than our ways. That's what He's proven to Peter.
My way. I'm sovereign. You can't say
to me it's been this way. You can't say to me that you
fished all night. You can't say to me they weren't
biting them. Those are my fish. I'm going to make them jump into
that net so much so that it took two ships to pull the net of
all the fish in. So that's the word I have for
you today. The word is nevertheless. Nevertheless, Lord, at thy word,
that's what faith says. Faith says, in spite of what
I know, in spite of what I think I know, Your word, faith credits
the word. How do we know it unless we're
in it? This is the bread of life that
he gives us that speaks of him. This is his word. He speaks to
us through the word. When Peter heard the audible
word of Christ, so he said, nevertheless, Lord, at thy word. I'll push
back out, I'll go back out there. Is anyone surprised of how much
fish he caught? Well, he was. And when he threw
himself down, he knew that that's the revelation of sin. You're
so wicked, Peter, you don't trust him. And even when he pushed
out there to go out there at the word of the Lord, he still
doubted. The Lord, in his mercy, proved
himself again. When Peter came back and he threw
himself down, he saw he just got on his knees. Lord, I'm a
sinful man. I continue to doubt you. And
we do. We doubt him over and over again.
But what I hope to convey to you this morning is that word,
nevertheless. The Word of God uses it a lot.
We're going to go to many places today where the Lord used the
word, the word of God says, nevertheless, in spite of this, listen to me,
listen to what what I his word always goes against any of our
conventional wisdom. We're dependent every day of
our life, and he proves that over and over. I remind us all
the time, the Lord took that child and he set him right in
the midst of them and said, unless you come like him, where he's
just dependent upon his parents and everything for life. He can't
provide food. He can't provide anything. He
can't provide shelter. He can't provide a peace when
he's scared at night. He goes to mom and daddy. Where
do you and I go? Where do you go? Does faith say
to you, nevertheless, Lord, at Thy Word? Thy Word tells us to
trust Him. Trust in the Lord always. The
Word tells us to rejoice in the Lord always. The Word tells us
we should always be praying. We should always believe in Him.
These are the things that the Scriptures tell us. Proverbs
16 25 says there's a way that seemeth right unto a man But
the end thereof are the ways of death You know why I said
that? Because dear ones that's the
best we can do The best of our intellect ends in death. You
know why because we get fear we get when we go looking We
can't calm ourselves We can't the things we were isn't it?
I hate this about myself. I will have a problem and I'll
go and read it on the Internet and it becomes the gospel. Does
it not? Do you not credit it just like
it came from God? Well, this is what it says I
should do. Let me go do it. I don't go to him. See, nevertheless,
in spite of what I just looked up, this may not be the truth. You know, I was taught in my
young age, my walk with the Lord, that any door, any door the Lord
opened, you walked through. The Lord's taught me that's not
true. He's sovereign over every door. Every door that some of
those doors are a test. Do I trust him? Do I lean on
the world? I think you all can attest to
that. The times that we went without being sent. Without the
Lord with us. Without the Lord going before
us. And we've stumbled and we've fallen. Praise God. It shows
us our dependency upon Him. Man's wisdom will always question
the Word of God. You have probably questioned
the Word of God. You start right at the beginning
of the Word of God, where God said, let there be. Ex nihilo,
out of nothing, God made creation. He spoke it into existence. You
and I can't do that. We can't speak something into
existence. So we doubt. Is that how the
worlds are framed? We're bombarded today with man
telling us this is how things originate. And yet they can't. They can't go back. Even if they
go back to that little spot that we all came from, you can't get
past the spot where the spot come from. Even if you go to
intelligent design, there's somebody intelligent enough to design
it. But they're not going to give glory to the Lord. Unbelief
never will. And then and then as we We go
through creation, we think of what the Bible says, that in
one man, all of humanity was thrust into death, that we're
all dead in Adam. Do you accept that? There are
times in our life that we think, are you kidding me? I wouldn't
have done that. God said not to eat of the tree.
Why would I eat of it? We esteem ourselves too highly.
Because the Bible is true. Every one of us would have took
of that apple. Every one of us would have loved
our wife more than or our husband more than the Lord. We would
have. That's our that's our nature.
We're put into a perfect place. We're not going to choose him.
He's proved that the word says that we're all dead in Adam.
But how many quote-unquote religions, denominations do we have today
that don't preach that? That preach that you're in a
salvable state. You can save yourself. God's
put you there. Now all you've got to do is choose
Him. Where is the sovereign Lord in
that? And where is that in the Scriptures? I don't see it. But only by grace and by faith
I don't see it. I'm kept by Him. But you see
where I'm headed with this, all the all the word we can just
sit there. I mean, listen, they're still disputing whether there
was an ark, the Red Sea party. Oh, no, it must have been down
here on the shallow end because that could never be. You know,
we've sat through those things, we've heard those things. Nevertheless. At thy word. Does your faith, the faith of
the Son of God, if that's the faith you have, does it credit
the word? Does it lay hold of this word
and say, my Lord speaks to me here and what he says, let him
be true and everything else a lie and all my intellectual knowledge
that I've picked up in my life that puffs me up, let it all
die because my Lord has life. There's power in his word. Oh,
yeah. You know, we question everything
we we question, is the Lord coming back? It's been a long time.
Right. What about the resurrection of
your body? There's people I know that don't believe in it. They'll
tell you the science don't make sense. You're going to die and
you're going to go back to dust and your body's going to be there
for 500 years. And by the time 500 years goes
by, they're going to scrape up enough to put in your pocket.
And when the Lord comes and he speaks to that body, he's going
to bring that body, that vile body and change it to a glorified
body with no sin. He's going to do that. Who believes
that? Children of God do. Why? Because nevertheless. I know
what the world says. But Christ says, I said it. I did it. Therefore, it's true. So this morning, I want to go
and answer this question. The question is, what is nevertheless? Nevertheless is, is in spite
of that or however, we know that this is the situation. But what
does the Lord say about it? And I want you and I desire you
when you leave this place today, that that word, nevertheless,
is something the Lord has written on your heart. Because you're
going to have opposition out there to what the word tells
you is how to live and what is glorifying to the Lord and how
to live. And how to trust him. You're not going to find that
out there. So the first thing I want to ask you today is what
about prayer? What about prayer? Now, now I was, you know, when
I was young and I was taught that, you know, when we make
our petitions, we got to make demands. We make demand, we tell
the Lord, you know, you're God, you should heal me. Basically,
you're telling the Lord that you should heal me that like
there's some kind of entitled reason that I should be that
God should heal me. No. What did the Lord say? Well, let's go to Matthew 26.
Matthew 26. You'll see that Jesus is in the
Garden of Gethsemane. We'll just. We'll just start
in 38, then said he unto them, my soul is exceeding sorrowful,
even unto death. Terry, you hear and watch with
me. And he went a little further and he fell on his face and he
prayed saying, Oh, my father, if it be possible, let this cup
pass from me the cup of sin, the cup of wrath, the cup. We could go on and on about what
this cup represents, but I don't want to get stuck on that. We
do know that the Lord asked if it be possible, let this cup
pass from me. But look at immediately what
he says right after that. There's that word. Nevertheless. You know, we can go into places
and we can hear people talk about the Lord's Prayer and they'll
call it what the model prayer, what he taught us how to say
these words, or then we'll go to John 17, which I believe is
the Lord's Prayer. But in this prayer, he teaches
us this is the only way to touch God's will. That's it. We pray and the only answered
prayer is the prayer that touches God's will. We don't have the
command over that. We don't get to command God and
say, you answer to me, regardless of what man says. Nevertheless,
the Lord is teaching us how it is we are to pray. Thy will be
done. Nevertheless. Nevertheless, not
as I will, but as thou wilt. Now, listen, we all know people
in this room We have people in our life that are close to us
that we know don't know the Lord. And that's a huge burden that
we carry. How do you pray for them? Do
you ask the Lord to save them? Yeah, I do. But the Lord teaches
us how to pray. Nevertheless, Lord, thy will
be done. What brings you glory? What is
it that brings you glory? Not my will. Not my will. Have you been convinced in your
life that His will is superior to yours? That His will is better
for your life than your will? Yeah, He's taught me that. I
won't say that was the case at the beginning. I won't. I rebelled in religion. Rebelled against that very thought.
that the Lord knows more than that. He doesn't need my will.
He doesn't need me. No, he doesn't. Absolutely not. In all of our
prayers, the Lord teaches us to say that it's not our will,
but his will be done. That's the faith of nevertheless. That's the faith in prayer. And
I'm talking about a true emptied person who's praying before the
Lord. I'm not talking about foreign
prayers. I don't have any problem. You pray any way that you're
led to pray. But the prayer that touches the
will of God, the one authored by the Holy Spirit, is the one
that prays according to his will. Lord, whatever brings you glory. We can't pray in the will of
God until we're brought here. Not making demands. Not us. He doesn't owe us anything. I
hope you've been convinced of that. But what about when you're called
to minister to others? Paul was a preacher. I'm a preacher. So I know what the Lord's taught
me. But in your daily walk, the Lord
may bring people in your path. What does he tell us about our
deportment? How we carry ourselves as we're
ministering to others and how we receive what they say back
to us. Turn with me over to Second Timothy.
2 Timothy chapter 1. Look at verse 12. Paul had just
gotten done explaining how he has suffered a lot for preaching
the gospel, for teaching the gospel, for preaching the gospel.
And I'm going to tell you now, I've been preaching a while.
I have not entered into nor have I been asked to suffer the way
Paul did. I haven't suffered any shipwreck.
I haven't had an asp on my hand. I haven't been beaten. I haven't
been all the other things. But I have suffered persecution
for what I preach. I have been called a lot of names. I've been called the devil and
I rejoiced in that day because my Lord was called the devil.
I got to enter into his suffering. Praise God for that. But look
what Paul says in verse 12. He says for the for the witch
cause, I also suffer these things. I suffer many things. And and
as the Lord has called me to preach the gospel. Nevertheless,
in spite of all of those things, in spite of the beatings, in
spite of what man has said, in spite of the name calling. Nevertheless,
I'm not ashamed. It's not going to change the
gospel that's on my lips. I pray to God, he sustains me
and keeps me all the days of my life. That is whatever the
last day that he has ordained for me to live, that his gospel
is on my lips then. And I pray the same for you because
you will be rejected by the world. You will you will be trotted
down under their feet. Does it matter? Do the accolades
of men or the acceptance of men, is that what we speak to others
about the Lord about? Does that alter how we walk forward? And Paul said, I'm not ashamed.
It's not going to keep me because for I know whom I have believed. That's faith. That's the faith
of nevertheless. Listen, I may preach and I may
have everybody run me out of the town, wherever it is the
Lord leads me to preach. I was heading home last week
from Apopka and I told my wife and I told them there, I've preached
in places that as I'm preaching the message, the gospel of the
Lord Jesus Christ, this is all I see out there. Heads going
that way. But last week I got to see this,
just like I see it this morning. I see the head nodding. Yes,
that's my Lord. That to me speaks volumes. That gives me joy beyond belief. To know that the Lord's people
receive, hear, love, cherish the gospel. Because that's what
life is. Nevertheless, world, you can
scoff. You can berate, you can throw
things, you can label me. I know whom I believe and I am
persuaded that he is able, not me, I'm not keeping myself, that
he is able to keep that which I've committed unto him against
that day. Oh, that's the resolve. That's Christ in me, the hope
of glory. I hope that's Christ in you. I've always told anybody
that asked me, I want to speak to this person. I want to speak.
The answer lies in the unction. Has the Lord went before you?
Has the Lord given you? I'm not one of those people is
telling you to beat down people's walls and go door to door and
tell them about. I'm sorry. The Lord knows who
his people are. We're going to see that here
in a minute. He knows. He'll send the gospel to who
he has the purpose of the gospel here. And that includes those
who reject it. Oh, I know who I believe. So that's the nevertheless and
how we deal with others. Faith says no matter what we
hear, no matter what kind of opposition there is, The faith
of the Lord lays hold of Christ and says, never look, they called
my Lord a lot worse things than they called me. And as I started
this, this section, Paul has, he, the Lord sustained him. He
went through a lot more than I have. Praise God. He's faithful. Well, what about
all the, the false prophets we hear? What about What about,
I know you get sick of it. I know. And some of those people
that the Lord brings in your path that you do speak the gospel
to and they then give you right back a false prophet or a false
God or some kind of false religion. I know how that makes you feel. I know how it makes me feel.
I'm going to be honest with you, I get angry most of the time.
That's not the place to be. That's not the place to be. That's
when I need his long suffering. That's when I need his kindness.
Because if you're going to speak the truth, your speech, as the
Bible says, should be seasoned with grace. Should be. The compassion Christ had to
feed 5,000 people. The compassion he had to heal
the sick. The compassion you and I have
to speak this glorious word. But there are many false teachers
and false preachers in this world. Just turn your page over one
to 2 Timothy 2. I want to show you what he says
here in 18 and 19. He says, who concerning the truth,
speaking of Hymenaeus and Philetus in the verse before false preachers,
they have erred, saying that the resurrection has passed already
and they've overthrown the faith of some. Now, I hear that and
I think of Jesus's words in Matthew 24, 24, where he says, for there
shall arise false Christ and false prophets and shall show
great signs and wonders in so much that if it were possible. They shall deceive the very elect. That used to scare me because
that's back when I thought I had to save myself. And when I heard
the devil could change himself into an angel of light, that
really scared me. How am I supposed to discern
the wicked one coming as an angel of light from the Lord coming?
How am I going to do that? I can't. Do you believe there
are people preaching that you can? You have the ability. You, you can discern those things. You have the faith. All you got
to do is turn it on. You know, it's tiresome. It is. It's very tough. But look what
Paul said. He said all that. He says, nevertheless, there's
that word again. Faith lays hold of Paul under
the power of the Holy Ghost, who's writing these words to
say this. The foundation of God stands sure. The Lord, having
this seal, the Lord knows them that are his. Do you know that? The Lord knows those who are
His. And here we are getting upset. You know why we're getting
upset? When the false religions... First of all, we hate it. But
second of all, that's what we're thinking. Oh my goodness, they're
leading all these people to hell. It's true, they are. But see,
the Lord knows those that are His. If those people that are
hearing that false message If one of those people is the Lord's
people, or how many they are, the Lord's put a hedge about
them. They're not going to drink down that poison. They're the
Lord's people. I'm not telling Paul, I'm not
telling me that you've got to go save them. No, preach the
truth. Preach the truth. Preach the
gospel. Teach the gospel. Speak of the
Lord Jesus Christ, who is your life, your hope, your everything. The foundation of God stands
sure. He has this seal. The Lord knows them that are
his. We're preserved. We're preserved
wherever we go. We have eternal security. It
reminds me of what Jesus said in John 6. If you don't want
to turn there, I'll turn there. I think I've got it marked. I do. John 6. Verses 37-39. I love to hear this. This is
why I read these quite a lot. All that the Father giveth me
shall come to me. Boy, that just takes me out of
it. All that the Father has given
the Son will come to Christ. And He'll draw them. And Him
that comes to me, I will in no wise cast out. They can't lose. They can't send away their grace.
When the Lord does a work and they come to it, can we backslide?
Absolutely. Are we still full of unbelief?
Absolutely. Does that keep our Lord from
saving us? No. No. Nevertheless. All that the Father giveth me
shall come to me, and him that cometh to me I will know why
I was cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own
will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's
will which sent me, that of all that he's given me, all that
he elected before the foundation of the world, and he presented
to me and gave to me, all of those that are in me, I should
lose not any of them. I got one even better. He says
but I will raise them up again at the last day That's that's
beginning to end. Is it not that's preservation
of the Saints right there That's the Lord doing it all that is
I Just I just say man. I'm with you. Amen on that But
I'm gonna tell you something about this walk I And I look
across the faces in this room and I know that there are people
in this room probably that have walked a lot longer than I have.
And I know how tiresome it gets. And I know how burdensome it
gets. Do we have a nevertheless for that? Of course we do. Turn
with me to Philippians 1. Philippians 1. I want to read
to you what Paul said. Paul said this in Philippians
1, starting in 21, he says, For me to live is Christ and to die
is gain. I could go on and on about that,
but I tell you, to have that testimony, that's faith right
there. For me to live, for me to walk
out there is Christ. I'm living for Christ. But dear
ones, you can't say it if it ain't true. I mean, you could
say it, but it makes you a liar. Christ is your life. That is
our testament. Christ is my life. To live is
Christ and to die is gain. What's what's missing there?
The fear of death. Let me show you something. But
if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor. Yet
what I shall choose, I want not. It's not my choice whether I
stay here with you or whether I go to be with my Lord. For Paul said, I'm in a strait
betwixt two, having a desire to depart. And I know when I
say that in front of you today, that there's some in this room
that will cause them great trepidation. It's my family. They don't want
me going anywhere. I understand that. But I want
you all to know, I desire to be with him. I do. I desire to see my Lord every
day where my sin doesn't cut my communion with him. Where
this old man that I've carried all this life doesn't rise up
every time, every moment of the day. Where I don't, and I'm not
even talking about the pains and all that stuff. I mean, that's
wonderful and glorious that we're not going to have that. But to
see my Lord, I desire it. I really do. I do. If the Lord took me today, and
I want you all to know that, if He takes me, praise God. Praise Him. Don't cry for me. Praise the Lord. Paul said that. I'm in a straight. I really am.
Because I know it's beneficial because the Lord still has me
here writing letters and speaking the truth. And I know it's beneficial
because the Lord has raised me to preach the truth. So I know
that he's got that's his purpose for me right now at this hour
is to preach the truth. I'm stuck. I'm stuck in between
two. I have a desire to depart and
to be with Christ, which is far better. There's that word again,
faith lays hold of nevertheless. That's what faith says. Nevertheless,
Lord, thy will be done. Isn't that what he's saying here?
To abide in the flesh is more needful for you. I know that.
Paul knows that. That's why I'm writing these
letters. That's why I'm in jail. That's why I'm nearing the end
of my life. But it's not the end of my life. The Lord has
still given me breath to proclaim the gospel. And I know that I
may have a desire to depart, and I do. to see him because
of his love for me. Because of that love, I love
him with that love. But is that the truth all the
time for me? No, because there's times I'm
faithless. And I need the Lord to say to
me, be not faithless, but believing. And when he does, guess what?
I believe him. And that's the only way. See that nevertheless that when
when faith lays hold of that. And I want you understand this.
This is remember our text today is nevertheless at thy word.
That's why I'm showing you these places in the word for the Lord
to take you in the word when you're when you're in your week
and you're going through these things. What does the word say? What does the Lord say in his
word? Nevertheless, faith credits his words. This is true. Not
the thoughts I have. Let God be true and every man
a liar. How many of you worry about the
future? I mean, we got an election coming up. You want to call it
that? I don't know. You know, do you worry about this economy?
Do you worry about things like that? Do you worry about the
future? I do. I mean, I live in this country. It is where the Lord's put me.
But there are things that I worry about my kids. And then I've
got two of my young ladies in here with child. So they've got
another generation coming. Of course, I'm a little concerned
about that. What does the Lord tell me? Well,
let's go to second Peter. Second Peter. Chapter three. Now, let's look at verse 10. But the day of the Lord will
come as a thief in the night. In the which the heavens shall
pass away with a great noise and the elements shall melt with
fervent heat. The earth and also and the works
that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these
things shall be dissolved what manner of persons ought you to
be in all holy? Conversation in godliness now
Peter just told us That the whole earth is going to be dissolved
It's going to melt Look at look at 12 looking for and hasting
unto the coming of the day of God wherein the heavens being
on fire Shall be dissolved and the elements shall melt with
fervent heat Can you even imagine that? All these things that you
go and you work for, that we make money for, to barter with,
to bring to us, all of that's going to burn. Everything in
this world that we value so much, that house, that car, the cares
of this world. I mean, seeing what he said,
he said, which the heavens shall pass away, the great and the
elements, the firmament, the earth and all the works. All
of those things that we put all this value on. This is the end,
dear ones. This is when the Lord says it's
over. This is the day of the Lord, when the Lord comes. And
he says this. Guess what's here? Nevertheless. See, we always are anxious about
that, aren't we? Aren't we anxious about the future?
And the Lord in his faith comes and says, nevertheless, nevertheless,
we, the church, those in Christ, according to his promise, what
is his promise? That's his word. That's what
we just read. Nevertheless, at thy word, Lord, I'll let down
my nets. Who said that? Peter. Who's writing
this? Peter. Something the Lord taught
him. The Holy Spirit now says it again.
He says, nevertheless, we, according to his promise, according to
his word, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth
righteousness. Who's that? The Lord, our righteousness. We look into Christ. We're not
looking to who's going to be president because there's a higher,
there's a there's one over him and he's still reigning. We're
not looking to this economy. We're looking to the one who's
reigning. Nevertheless, dear ones, we look for the promises
of God. And dear ones, I cannot stress
to you enough his promises are in his word. Oh, may he draw
you there. Let's go back to our original
text now as we went everywhere. Let's go back to Luke five and
I'll make a couple comments and we'll finish up. Back to Luke five. Simon answering
said unto him, Master, we've toiled all the night. We've taken
nothing. Nevertheless, at thy word, I
will let down the net. Then we have the moment where
he sees himself as a sinner. We have astonishment of all of
them and all of the fish that were caught. And then we end
this section in verse 11. And when they had brought their
ships to land, they forsook all. and followed him. You know what
that is? That's faith. That's the faith
of the Son of God. Nevertheless, at thy word. He's faithful, dear ones. He's
faithful to call his sheep to the shepherd. He's faithful to
lead us into the sheepfold. He's faithful to lead us out
of the sheepfold. He's faithful to lead us back
into the sheepfold. We come in and out. but He never
leaves us and forsakes us. May the Lord write that word
upon your soul today and as you see the faith of the Son of God
in it, nevertheless. Dear Heavenly Father, I thank
Thee, Lord, for Thy Word. Bless it, Lord, as only Thou
can, and send it to the places, Lord, that You believe glorifies
Thee. that thy will will be done. For
this I ask in Jesus' name, Amen.
