Exodus 19, 7 says, Have you ever
heard of red-letter Christians? Some of these folks are sincere in
their desire to be committed to Jesus above all, but that
doesn't change the fact that such a thing is heresy. Why? Because all the words of
Scripture are the words of Jesus, not just the red letters. And
the fact is, you can't be a red-letter Christian if you want to obey
Jesus, because Jesus tells us not to be red-letter Christians. You heard that correctly. Jesus
tells us to be followers of every word of God in the red letters. Matthew 4, 4. It's in red letters. But he answered and said, It
is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Not just the red
letters. Now this was not the first time
that Jesus had given us this commandment, but the first time
was in red letters, so to speak. The first time Jesus gave the
commandment is found in Deuteronomy 8.3, which he's quoting here
in Matthew 4.4. where the pre-incarnate Lord
said to Moses, and he humbled thee and suffered thee to hunger
and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did
thy fathers know, that he might make thee know that man doth
not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out
of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. So let that sink in,
and when you hear people call themselves red-letter Christians,
You'll remember that red letter Christians are rejecting the
red letter commandment of Matthew 4.4. Not only that, but in his
red letter portions of the Bible, Jesus told us that he was going
to send his Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, to give us the
rest of his words of truth. And those words won't be found
in red letters in your Bible. They're in the epistles and revelation. Now please listen closely. This
red-letter Christian stuff is a satanic lie and heresy. John
16, 13 we find Jesus saying this in red letters, Howbeit when
he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth. For he shall not speak of himself,
but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak, and he will
show you things to come. But those words are now recorded
in the book of Acts through Revelation, what the Holy Spirit came and
gave us after Jesus ascended to heaven. The words of those
books, Acts through Revelation, are the truth of Jesus Christ,
but they are not in red letters. At no point will you ever see
Jesus telling His followers to only follow His words that He
is speaking, recorded in red in our Bible. In addition to
Deuteronomy 8.3 and Matthew 4.4, we also see passages like Proverbs
30.5, every word of God is pure. He is a shield unto them that
put their trust in Him. And Psalm 12, 6, and 7, the words
of the Lord are pure words, as silver tried in a furnace of
earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord.
Thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever. But
when Proverbs 30, verse 5, and Psalm 12, 6, and 7 were recorded
in the Bible, there were no red letters of Jesus and no red-letter
Bibles. So when we read in Exodus 19,
and it says, And Moses came and called for the elders of the
people and laid before their faces all these words which the
Lord commanded him, those words are not in red, but they are
the words of Jesus. It's important to rightly divide
His words, to recognize the dispensation of which they were given and
to which dispensation they apply. Context, the intent of the author,
and all these things are important so that we interpret and apply
these words appropriately and accurately. But all the words
are the words of Jesus. We can appreciate red-letter
Bibles. Those red-letter passages contain some of the most precious
truths along with some of those plain and clear rebuke, but they
are not to be elevated above any and all other portions of
Scripture. And that is why 2 Timothy 3.16 says, "...all Scripture
is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all
good works."
