Open your Bibles. Let's go to John Chapter 12.
John Chapter 12 and look at Look down at verse 20. The Bible
says, we would see Jesus. I want to
preach to you today on looking to Jesus. Father, I come before
you now. I pray that you'll bless your words. And Father, I pray
that you'll please fill me with the Holy Spirit. I pray, God,
that you'll speak to your folks today. Give them something, Lord.
I know this is just going to be just a little more relaxed
and a little more encouraging, hopefully, Father. I pray, God,
that you'll speak to your people. Give them something from your
words, Father, something to encourage them, Lord. And we pray all this
in your son's name. Amen. Now here you've got some Greeks
here and the Bible says that Greeks seek after wisdom and
here we have some guys that have come to the master. They've come
to the greatest teacher of all time and they're seeking to see
him. These Greeks have accidentally
said something very profound. They're saying, sir, we would
see Jesus. And they're saying, we'd like
to get a look at this man called Jesus Christ. Now, of course,
I'm going to make spiritual application here today. In your life, you're
going to have a constant temptation to look just anywhere else. constant
temptation. You got a little thing in your
phone that calls your attention, or in your pocket, excuse me,
that calls your attention all the time. You've got screens
and they draw your eyes downward. And it's a constant temptation
not to look up. And it's easy to get down and
keep your eyes on the hardships and keep your eyes on an election
and keep your eyes on football and circumstances and all that
stuff. And you need to get your eyes on Jesus Christ and I'm
very aware that that's easier said than done. Now, of course,
I'm not talking about physically seeing him, okay? I'm perfectly aware that I'm
going to spend the next 30 minutes or so here talking about a man
that I've never seen. And I'm going to talk about a
fellow that I've never physically heard his voice. And if you know
your Bible at all, you know that that's not important, because
that's physical. And the physical side is not
the important side. And I'm talking today about having
some spiritual eyes and looking past the physical to the spiritual.
And getting your eyes on your Savior. In the Bible there, we
talk about doubting Thomas. We talk about a fellow there
who doesn't believe that Jesus Christ has resurrected and he
says, I gotta see it with my own eyes. And then when he finally
sees him, Jesus Christ says to him, Thomas, because thou hast
seen me, thou hast believed. Blessed are they that have not
seen. and yet have believed. I haven't seen them. And I'm
blessed because I still believe. And so are you. You're blessed
because you haven't seen them yet. But spiritually speaking,
you've got your eyes on them and received them. 2 Corinthians
4.18 says, while we look not at the things which are seen,
but at the things which are not seen. Listen, for the things
which are seen are temporal. but the things which are not
seen are eternal. So today I'm going to give you something just
for a few minutes here about seeing Jesus Christ, and I'm
not talking about a vision, amen, but I'm talking about looking
through some spiritual lenses to this man called Jesus Christ. So the first point is real simple,
and I know most of you here, especially in a crowd this size,
it's just going to take a minute here to go through it, but you
have to look to Jesus Christ for His salvation. And if you
want salvation, you have to look to Jesus. There is no phenomenon
in the entire universe like the God of this universe, the creator
of time and space and matter, coming down and allowing Himself
to be bound by the laws of nature that He created. There's no phenomenon
like it. The Creator of the heavens comes
down to this ball of dirt and He walks around for 33 and a
half years. The Bible says He went about
doing good. And your Creator goes and He dies for you with
you in mind and all a man has to do to receive eternal life
is to look to Jesus Christ. You need to look to Jesus for
His salvation. Do you realize that before Jesus
Christ came down no man could see God in all His glory? And
that's an important thing. No one could get a full glimpse
of God. God was so pure. God was so holy that when a man
died in the Old Testament, they didn't even go to heaven. They
weren't pure enough yet. They went down into a place called
Paradise in the heart of the earth. And the Bible says that
they had to go down and wait for Jesus Christ there. Let me
show you something. Look at Exodus chapter 33. Exodus 33, here you have one
of the greatest men in Scripture, one of the most righteous men,
one of the most holy men, one of the most clean men. And watch,
here's Moses, Exodus 33, and look at verse 18. Exodus 33.18
says, And he said, I beseech thee,
show me thy glory. That's Moses getting some one-on-one
fellowship with God. And he says, can I just look
at you? Can you show me your glory? And look at God's response,
verse 20. And he said, Thou canst not see
my face, for there shall no man see me and live. You know what
God's saying? You're too human and I'm too
holy. It would obliterate you, Moses. My holiness would annihilate
you. You can't look at me. You can't
look on me. He ends up passing by and lets
him get a little piece of him, but he couldn't look at him straight
on. And he just wants to look at him like a friend, but he's
an Old Testament saint without a New Testament sacrifice. So
when Moses dies, he goes down and waits in Abraham's bosom.
He can't look at God yet. So God comes down. And the phenomenon
of the universe is that he's all holy and all human. Before, God was too holy, man
was too human, and now you've got both in one. The Lord Jesus
Christ. And you've got to look to Him.
Look at John 1. And Jesus Christ comes down. God comes down. John 1. And look at verse 1. In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Now verse 14. And the Word was
made flesh. And because of that, mankind
could get a glimpse at God Himself. Jesus Christ comes down. Every
single bit of God's holiness is wrapped in flesh. And man
could just look at God straight in the face. And His name was
Jesus Christ. Look at John 3 and look at verse
13. And no man hath ascended up to
heaven. Uh-oh. Why is that? Because Jesus Christ
hasn't died yet. You know what happens when a
saved Christian dies? Absent from the body, present
with the Lord. That's New Testament. This is before Jesus dies. He
says, no man has ascended up to heaven. He can't go up and
wait up there. He can't get to my Father yet.
Watch. No man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down
from heaven, even the Son of Man which is in heaven. And as
Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must
the Son of Man be lifted up, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have eternal life. Now, that's back in the
book of Numbers, the children of Israel have murmured and complained
and God's mad at them, and the Bible says He sent fiery serpents
in there, and the snakes are killing all these Jews, and the
Jews go to Moses and say, hey, can you get God to calm down?
Can we figure out a way to get His wrath appeased? And the Lord
says, I want you to make a serpent of brass, and I want you to stand
that thing up. And this is what He says, all
they've got to do is look at that thing. That's all they've
got to do. They're out in a tent somewhere dying to that fiery
serpent and they're going to die soon. And Moses goes in there
and says, come on, brother, come on. All you got to do is look
up at that serpent. And all that they just had all
they could just use every last bit of strength they had to get
outside that tent and look up there and look at that thing.
They'd be healed. Now, that's a picture of New Testament salvation.
When you go into the house of a lost sinner there and physically
they could look just fine, but spiritually speaking, they're
poisoned with sin. That fiery serpent of sin has bit them and
they're gonna die and go to hell. And you're just trying to get
them to look up to the cross. And if any man will just look
to him, they'll live. And you need to get your eyes
on anything and anyone else, excuse me, you need to get your
eyes off of anything and anyone else. And that's the problem.
People want to look to something else. Don't look at anybody else.
When it comes to salvation, you better get your eyes on Jesus
Christ. And you need to look to Jesus. If you get to looking
at others around you long enough, you'll come to the conclusion
that nobody is saved but yourself. And if you look at yourself long
enough, you'll come to the conclusion that you aren't saved either.
You can't keep the focus on others or on yourself too much. You'll
either come out an egomaniac or a manic-depressive. That's
it. And you'll either think you're the greatest saint that ever
lived or that you're so sorry there's no use to even try. So
get your eyes off everybody else. Get your eyes off you. Get your
eyes on Him. That's how you get saved. And you can't look to
religion for salvation. I really believe what I'm about
to say. I believe that religion is the first step to atheism.
I really believe that. You know what religion is? It's
forcing a man to work and fail and work and fail and try and
fail and worry about a God that's sitting over him with a hammer
of judgment just waiting. You keep messing up, I'm going
to knock you down. That's what religion does. Come do your sacraments. I know you got drunk over the
weekend, and God's got his judgment on you. You're going to hell,
but you better come to the church and get it right. That's religion. And it
eventually pushes a man to say, I don't want to deal with a God
like that, so I just won't believe in him. That's how religion represents
God, but that is not the God of the Bible. It's been said
like this, religion is man reaching up to God, but the God of the
Bible reached down to man. And you have to look to Jesus
Christ. There's an old hymn that says, it's called, Look and Live. Look and live, my brother, live.
Look to Jesus now and live. And you've got to look at Him
if you want salvation. I think everybody here is saved,
so I'll move on. But you need to look to Jesus
Christ for strength as well. Look at Matthew chapter 14. And
it's not your own strength. You need to look to Jesus Christ
for His strength. Look at Matthew chapter 14. Here's
one of the most well-known stories in the Bible, especially in the
Gospels. It's the account of Peter walking on the water. And
they're out on a storm and Jesus Christ comes to them through
the storm, walking on top of that water. And we'll just pick
up the story about halfway through, verse 28, Matthew 14, 28. And
Peter answered Him and said, If it be thou bid me come unto
thee on the water. And he said come. And when Peter
was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water to go
to Jesus. It's a miracle. What a crazy
thing. Watch. But when he saw the wind boisterous,
he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord,
save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and
caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore
didst thou doubt? And when they were come into
the ship, the wind ceased." Now folks, it says that when Peter
saw the wind, So here he is, he's stepping out on the water.
I know this is simple preaching that most of you have heard,
but he steps out on the water and he's looking at Jesus Christ
and all of a sudden his eyes start wandering. And he starts
sitting there, he sees the wind and those waves are getting high.
And when his eyes get off of the Savior, the faith goes down.
Notice what Jesus Christ says to him, O thou of little faith.
He had enough faith to get out on the water, didn't he? Nobody
else in the boat had that faith. He had enough faith to step out
and all of a sudden he starts looking around and the thing
starts to waver and he starts to sink. You've got to get your
eyes on Jesus. Let's just be real honest. It's hard to look
to Jesus when the storm is raging. Sometimes the wind starts howling
and it's hard to hear Him. Isn't that right? Sometimes that
wind starts howling real loud and you can't hear His promises
as loud as you heard it when the sea was calm. Sometimes those
storms start to hit you and the waves are going so high it's
hard to see them through all that rage and all that stuff.
But if you want a Christian life that has some victory over storms,
you're going to have to look to Jesus Christ for strength
because you don't have it. You can't get through the storm
without Him. Look at Hebrews chapter 12. You've got to look
to Him for strength and it can be in all aspects of your life.
That's a classic one to consider when you're going through troubles
and trials, but just in your life, in your own race, in your
own Christian walk, you've got to get your eyes on Him. Look
at Hebrews 12. Wherefore, seeing we also are
compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us
lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset
us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who
for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising
the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne
of God. You know verse 1 is talking about the great cloud of witnesses.
What's that? It's the last chapter. The last chapter, we call it
the hall of faith. You've got men like Enoch and you've got
men like Abraham and men like Moses. Great, great men of God. And he says, you see all those
guys? Don't look at them. You catch that? Now listen, let
me make this real clear. Paul says, follow me as I follow
Christ. There's nothing wrong with getting behind the right
guy. If God has his hand on a man, you follow him as far as he can
go. If he gets off the track, go right on past him and keep
following Jesus Christ. I'm not saying you can't. I'm
not telling you that you can't get good testimonies and good
examples, but at the end of the day, see the great kind of witnesses?
Look to Jesus. You know why? Because they're
great men, but they fall. We can sit here and look at somebody
like, it mentions Moses. Yeah, Moses had some sin. You
can think of some great men like David and have good examples.
Yeah, they fall. Jesus never fell. Looking unto Jesus. And that ought to translate right
into your own life. You know why? Because you shouldn't look. When you're looking at your life,
you need to stop looking at all the people around you and worrying
about what they're doing. and worrying about other people's
ministries and what they have going on. You need to run your
own race. You know what you'll be tempted to do? You'll be tempted
to look at the victories in somebody else's life and start comparing
your life to theirs. And the Lord says, don't look
at them, look at Me. Follow Me. You'll do the same thing. You'll
look at past victories in your own life sometimes. And the Lord
says, forgetting those things which are behind, looking unto
Me. And you need to look past it.
And you know what some of you do? You try to run somebody else's
race. Cut it out. The Bible says to run the race
that's set before you and get your eyes on Him. I heard it
said like this, for the truly dedicated there are only two
things that count, God above and duty below. Those are the
only two things. God above, what's He think, and
then the duty He has for you. And so you need to quit worrying
about everybody else. You need to get right with God,
you need to follow Him. I had a buddy of mine down in
PBI, and when I first got to school there, he was a pretty
big guy, and he worked out all the time, and he gave me the
best advice I've ever heard for working out and getting stronger.
He said this, he goes, find the biggest guy at the gym and do
whatever he's doing. Now that's solid advice, man,
I've followed that. And what I think about, though,
is in the Christian life, we get to looking around at all
the weak Christians around us and think we're doing okay. You
get to looking at everybody else and sometimes you look at the
faults and failures and sometimes you'll get messed up looking
at their victories and strengths and you get down on yourself
when you should be looking at the strongest guy in the universe.
Looking at Him and doing what He does, following His example.
You know what you need to do? You need to look at the life
and the victories of Jesus Christ and get your eyes on Him and
you'll have a much, much better chance of growing stronger and
getting some victory. Look at Hebrews chapter 4. Hebrews 4, look at verse 14.
And I understand the doctrinal application of all these verses
in Hebrews, but you can make spiritual application. 14, 14,
14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14,
14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14 So Jesus had all the same points
of temptation you have. The temptation you're gonna have
is to look at the other brethren and look around, well he's fallen,
he's doing the same thing, he did it. And the Bible says don't
look at them, look at Jesus Christ. Get your eyes on him, why? Because
he won. He went through the same temptations
you're gonna go through and he had victory. So if you want victory,
you're gonna have to look to him. Look at Hebrews 2. Hebrews
2, 9. The Bible says, "...but we see
Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the
suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, that He by the
grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became
Him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in
bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their
salvation perfect through suffering." I love that verse. Once again,
it's looking to Him. We see Jesus, it says. But I
love that verse because that means He's my captain. That means
he's your captain. You'll notice that the theme
of the songs today that Brother Isaac picked were about being
a soldier. I didn't ask him to do that,
but I'm glad he did. And if you're gonna be a good soldier, that
means you're gonna have to follow your captain. You know what the
problem with some of you is? You've got your eyes on some
YouTube teacher, and he's no captain. You've got your eyes
on some man who's going to let you down, a leader who's not
a good leader. And you need to get your eyes
off that and you need to get your eyes on him because he'll never let
you down. You need that captain. It's important. Brother Matt
was talking about today, the importance of having a personal
relationship with your captain. You know why? Because if you
put all your stakes on a man, when he falls, you'll fall with
him. But Jesus never falls. He says, I'll go with you all
the way. He won't mess up. And you've got to have that.
That thing has to be your emphasis. I was talking with my cousin
Donovan here the other day, and we were talking about a church
that we both knew about growing up. And the pastor there, man,
that guy had all the personality, had all the charisma, great speaker. And one day that guy fell, and
half his church just fell too. They just left with him. And
he stayed preaching, he just messed up. And they all left,
and now they're all way worse off than they were before. And
we both were sitting there talking, we both went to PBI, and I said
to him, I said, you know, it's interesting, with how much of
a character Dr. Ruckman was, it was never about
him. It was about the book. And it was about your personal
relationship with Jesus Christ. As much of a great preacher Brother
Donovan is and how much that fellow has helped me, he emphasized
two things in that school. Your personal relationship with
Jesus Christ and getting in that book and knowing that book. And
it wasn't about him. So you know what happens when
Dr. Ruckman dies? The thing just keeps on going. Because it wasn't
about him! Brother Donovan the same. When he dies, the thing,
as long as that thing just stays on him, then it'll keep on going.
Why? I'm following the captain. That's what you need to do You
gotta follow the captain. So when Jesus Christ is tempted
in Matthew 4, he goes straight to God's word and he says, it
is written. Is that what you do when you're tempted? You following
the captain? When Satan shows up and attacks
Jesus Christ, Christ resists him. Is that what you do? You
following the captain's lead there? There's some blind men
that show up in front of Jesus Christ and he gives them sight.
How about you? Got any blind sinners coming your way, lost
and without hope and without God? Have you followed the captain's
leading and his example and used the light of God's Word to heal
the blindness of some lost sinner? It's a pretty good example, isn't
it? You're supposed to be following Him. Sometimes people would come
to Jesus Christ and they were just down and hurt and think
about the woman at the well and He gives her hope and encouragement.
What about some people in your life that the Lord brings along
your way? Are you able to encourage them and follow your captain's
example? And every once in a while, just like we were reading this
morning with Brother Matt, sometimes the Lord sits there and says,
oh, you generations of vipers, how can ye being evil speak good
things? For out of the abundance of the
heart, the mouth speaketh. And he just sits there and just tears
their hide off, man. Well, sometimes you need to be
just like your captain and somebody needs a rebuke. But you've got
to be close to the captain to figure out what his will is in
those kind of things. And then the most important thing,
at the end of Christ's ministry, he's called to climb up a hill
and sacrifice it all for others. And the question is, are you
going to follow the captain? Are you going to give of yourself?
Are you going to be self-centered, self-willed, and selfish, and
stubborn, and have all the emphasis on you all the time? Well, you're
not going to be like your captain. And the Lord's called you to
be like him. And what you have is a captain that left a perfect
example for you to follow. But when you get your eyes off
Him, you're going to sink. So you have songs like, Turn
your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face,
and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light
of His glory and grace. All right, look at Matthew 17. I'll give you my third point
here. You need to look to Jesus Christ for salvation. You need
to look to Jesus Christ for strength. And you need to look for His
second coming. Look at Matthew 17. Matthew 17, and what you have
here is a picture of the second advent of Jesus Christ. This
is the Mount of Transfiguration. We'll read it to get the story,
Matthew 17, verse 1. And after six days, Jesus taketh
Peter, James, and John, his brother, and bringeth them up into a high
mountain apart. And he was transfigured before them, and his face did
shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And if
you know Revelation, that's a picture of him coming back. And so he's
giving them a sneak preview of what's going to happen when he
comes back. Now, look at verse 3, And behold, there appeared
unto them Moses and Elias. What's that? Revelation chapter
11, the two witnesses show up, Moses and Elijah. And so Peter,
James, and John are getting something special here. They're seeing
him just like he's going to be when he comes back the second
time. They're seeing Moses and Elijah show up. So Peter just,
you know, sticks his foot in his mouth as usual. Verse 4,
Then answered Peter and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good
for us to be here. If thou wilt, let us make here
three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for
Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them.
Behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved
Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye Him. And when the disciples
heard it, they fell on their face and were sore afraid. And
Jesus came and touched them and said, Arise and be not afraid.
Watch. And when they had lifted up their
eyes, they saw no man save Jesus only." Now this is a picture
of the second advent, but I'm going to make spiritual application
here for you that you need to get at your eyes on His second
coming. And that's once again easier said than done. But it's
not about Moses and Elijah showing up. And they're sitting there
looking at Moses and Elijah and thinking that they're important.
And they weren't. And Peter, James, and John weren't
important. They shouldn't have been looking
at each other. They shouldn't have been thinking about the other disciples that
were left down below thinking they're something special. No,
their eyes should have just been on Jesus Christ and Him glorified. It's supposed to be about Jesus
Christ. You know what's interesting?
One of my favorite passages, maybe one of my favorite chapters in
the whole Bible is Revelation chapter 5. When we talked through
it, I talked about it a little bit, but I'm going to kind of
give it to you again here just as an illustration. Revelation
chapter 5, John's up in heaven, and God is sitting on the throne,
and he's got a book sitting there that's sealed with seven seals,
and no one can open it. The Bible says a strong angel
steps forward, and he says, is there anyone worthy to open the
book and loose the seals thereof? And the Bible says they searched.
They searched. They went looking for somebody
who was worthy to open that book. And the Bible says they searched
under the earth. That's hell. They searched the earth and they
searched heaven. and they couldn't find anyone worthy. Now that's
a wild thing. They went looking for someone.
At least that's how I envision it in my mind. And it makes sense
they didn't find anyone in hell. They could go down there and
find Nebuchadnezzar and he wouldn't help. They could go down there
and find Nero and they could go down and they could find any
number of popes, amen, just down burning in hell. And of course
they weren't worthy to open the books, amen. Then it says they
searched the earth. I mean, I get it. You know, the
world would look around and see famous people, and they'd look
around and they'd see the King of England, and the Lord goes,
no, not even close. And it doesn't matter who wins
this election, neither of them are going to be worthy, amen?
Not even close. Go over to Hollywood and put up all the stars and
the angels and whatever the flip you want to call them. No, they're
not worthy. You could go to all these celebrity Christians like
Chris Pratt and Justin Bieber, and they might be saved. I think
they are. But I'm telling you that they're not worthy. Then
it says he went to heaven. They searched heaven out. And
there's some great men there. And if John went and talked to
David to see if he was worthy, David would have to step back.
And John said, but the Bible says that you had a heart after
God, a heart that was like God's. And he'd say, no, I'm just a
wicked devil sinner. I'm here by the grace of God alone. I
ain't worthy. He could go over there and he'd find Daniel, and
he'd get down on his knees in front of Daniel, and Daniel would
say, no, no, no, get up. This happened one time before,
and that's why I'm not worthy, is I took worship from a man
when it was supposed to be to God. And he'd go to Job and say,
you were righteous, and he said, yeah, I was so righteous, I was
self-righteous. I'm not worthy. And the Bible
says that John just weeps. And then one of the elders steps
up, and he says, behold the Lamb. Get your eyes on Him. You know
what I thought about? I thought there were going to
be some Roman Catholics that get up to heaven in spite of
their church, and when they get up there, they won't look for
a single pope. Their eyes are going to be on Jesus Christ.
There's going to be people down here and big contemporary churches
and stuff that have their celebrities like Osteen or whatever, and
they won't look for them if they're there. But they won't look for
them, amen? They're going to look to Jesus Christ. And you
know what? A Bible-believing church right
now, you should already have your eyes on Him. There should
already be a desire and a longing to see Him. Do you know what
the church is likened to in the Bible? A bride who's waiting
for her bridegroom. And I remember Brother Donovan
describing this one time. He said, you know, the bridegroom
comes up, and he stands here, and he's waiting for the bride.
And sometimes that bride comes walking down the aisle, and she's
doing this, and she's waving, and she's looking at everybody
like this. But man, there's something real special about when that
girl comes through there, and she's looking at that bridegroom. There's
nothing she desires more than him. And Christian, that should
be your desire, is to see him, to get your eyes on him. I was
thinking about my, of all things, to go from a bride to a dog,
but it makes sense in a second. I got a dog over there, just
a little pooch, man, and I'll tell you, sometimes I just watch
him, and he has got his eyes on me. And I can just change
the expression of my face, and he'll look up like, we gonna
do something? Because I'm ready. I look at
the door, and he goes, you want to go out? And I'm looking at
that stupid, low IQ, little soulless animal and he's got more character
in him than I do sometimes because he's attentive to whatever the
Master's doing. Are you attentive to the Master like that? You
got your eyes on the Master? Let's look at one more verse
and we'll be done. 2 Timothy 4. 2 Timothy 4. looking for his second coming.
2 Timothy 4, 7, I have fought a good fight, I have finished
my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for
me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous
judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but
unto all them also that love his appearing. You gotta see
him. See how simple of a thing that
is? You know what that is right there? That's a reward that God
promises you. Laying up a treasure in heaven
that if you just have your eyes on him and you love his appearing,
you get a reward for it. How crazy is that? He's coming
back for you. Isn't that reward enough? No,
if you're looking for him. You know, the Bible says he's
gonna come back in the clouds, so every once in a while, when
there's a cloudy day, I get a little excited. And I look up there
and I see those clouds and I say, why not today, Lord? Why couldn't
you come back today? You know what the closing prayer
in the Bible is? Even so, come Lord Jesus, amen. The closing prayer is, can you
come fix this? You know what happens when Christians
go through hell on earth? They start desiring heaven a
lot more. I'll close with this. There was a fellow working up
on top of a roof one time at his house there. And he had a
ladder set up. And he's up there working along. And he'd been
working a little while. And suddenly, he hears his boy
crying out for help. And he goes over to the side
of the roof there. And he looks over the edge. And his boy's
about halfway up hanging onto that thing like this. And he
looked down and got too scared. And his dad looked down on him
and just leaned down and said, son, just look straight at me
and come on up. And that boy looked up at him.
And once his eyes weren't down on everything else and he got
his eyes on dad, he just climbs up, gets up to the top with no
problem at all when he just kept his eyes on dad. And Christian,
such a simple, simple illustration. But sometimes the world will
get you looking down. You're just going to grab on
that thing and sometimes it might just feel like you're hanging
on for dear life. And the Lord's just looking down going, hey,
just look up at me. Just look right here. I got you.
And what you need to do is just get your eyes on Him, and He
will take you safely home. And in fact, one of these days,
He's going to meet you halfway and take you the rest of the
way up. Amen? All right, let's all stand. We're going to have
a pianist come. We won't have a long invitation
here, but if you need a few minutes to talk to the Lord before the
revival, I'd recommend you do it. Father, I pray that You'll
bless Your words, bless the preaching. Father, speak to Your people
now. Please. Lord, I love you. I'm thankful
for you. Thanks for being so kind and so gentle to just a
poor sinner like me. Thanks for blessing these folks,
Lord. I pray that you'll bless them now. you. Mm, mm, mm, mm. I'm sorry. Amen. All right, well, we're
gonna have some food here and then probably won't take as long
as normal But the afternoon service we're gonna come in here and
we're gonna spend some time in prayer before the meeting tomorrow So
stick around we won't have a real long lunch or anything and the
prayer meetings don't take real long Maybe they should but they
don't normally but brother Tyler if you would just please bless
the food and the service, please
