Alright, let's turn to Exodus chapter 17. Alright, Exodus chapter 17, and let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you God for this day. Thank you for life and breath. We praise your excellent name, God. We come to you in the name of our precious Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. And we want to ask on behalf of our pastor, God, that you would just bless him, that you would help him, that you would heal him, God, that you would take away this cancer, that he would be free from it. God, we pray that you'd work in his body, work in his life. Pray that you bless him, bless his wife, and help them. God, thank You for this time with Your Word. I pray that You'd help us as we read it to be blessed by it. God, to see how great You are and the great things You've done for us. We love You. We thank You, most importantly, for sending Your Son, the Lord Jesus, to die in our place. And again, it's in His precious name we ask these things. Amen. Alright, Exodus chapter 17. The Bible says in verse number 1, Now, just kind of give you, I know most of you guys know this, but for those that are new, those that are visiting, I have been kind of covering Old Testament types, Old Testament pictures. There are things that are written back in these days, of these days, of these times with the nation of Israel that was to teach us something about the Lord Jesus Christ, something that you can see in the light of the New Testament that they couldn't see then, or people couldn't see prior to the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. You don't have to turn there, but Hebrews 10.1 says, for the law, having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of those things, can never with those sacrifices take away sin. Right? He's talking about in that law it shadowed. It gave you kind of the image of what was going to happen. Because if you read this, you think, well, I mean, why does God have to record they went here and they went there, and when they were here, there was no water, and when they were here, they were complaining about bread. There's something there for us to learn. God put it there for a reason. Just helps to have that light of the New Testament make it plain. So we find Exodus 17, verse number one, the nation of Israel have found themselves in a place where there is no water. The thing about water is it is necessary for life. Without it, people die, animals die, plants die, right? All of them. They cannot live without water. Water is an absolute necessity. And here the people have gone from place to place. They've come to a place called Rephidim. We'll see later in this passage, very close to Horeb, the Mount of God, Mount Sinai, and some later chapters, really good stuff. But in the natural eyes, in the natural sense, they are in danger. Right? They're traveling out in the wilderness, out in the deserts, and there's no water. You can't go long without water. And so, these people, their first instinct—let's go to verse 2. The Bible says, "...wherefore the people did chide with Moses." They're in his face, blaming Moses, fighting with Moses, arguing with Moses. This is your fault, Moses. And the Bible says, "...and said, Give us water, that we may drink." And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? Wherefore do ye tempt the Lord? And the people thirsted there for water. And the people murmured against Moses and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? And this is the picture of the lost man. The lost man is in a place where he has no water. He has nothing to sustain his soul. He has nothing to sustain him spiritually. The lost man, he needs something to satisfy his soul. And it's not within himself. I think one of the great delusions that has been brought over into this country many, many years ago, our pastors talked about it, the idea of all this Eastern mysticism nonsense, that all you have to do is search within you. Look in your heart. Believe in yourself. You got everything you need. You just gotta get out in the woods and sit cross-legged and try and empty your mind, and you'll find what exactly? Right, because just like these people, they're traveling around the deserts. They've got nothing to drink. They don't carry that water within themselves. It's not naturally produced within themselves. Same is true with the lost man. What the lost man needs to sustain his soul is not found within him. It is outside of the man. And this delusion has got people thinking it's in them. It's in me. Oh, that's what I need, I need me, I need more of me. That's the last thing you need. And since then, right, the number of people on drugs, illegal drugs, drugs for depression, drugs for anxiety, drugs for every mental illness under the sun, through the roof. Right? Suicide, through the roof. The numbers are off the charts. Murder, crime, chaos. Like, you wouldn't believe, at least if you went back 50, 60 years ago, that just was not the case until people started believing this type of nonsense, that it is in them, what they need. So this deception has filled the hearts and minds of people, not just here, but really the world over. And none of them have joy, none of them have peace, none of them have hope, none of them have satisfaction, because what they're looking for is not in them. And more and more people are found, you know, overdosed, killing themselves, killing others, driving under the influence of this stuff, living on the streets, because what they have found to try and fill that hole in their soul is not working, and they just need more, and they think they need more and more and more and more and more, and they create that addiction, that lust. But this is the state of the lost man. And of course, it is worsened by the idea that you think you can Find what you need in your heart. Need water. but uh... so we're we're getting a picture we're getting a a picture of the lost man we're gonna see i think god's great provision for for that man let's go to person before in the bible says and moses cried onto the lord praise god moses cried unto the lord what we've been learning about in prayer right take everything to the lord be instant in prayer you know moses They didn't call people, but, you know, talk to Aaron. Aaron, can you believe what they're saying? Miriam, can you believe? Or go talk to his kids, you know, they're being so mean, chiding with me. He just took it to God. Took it to God, instant, in prayer. And would to God we could all do that. Verse number five, the Bible says, And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee the elders of Israel, and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, taken thine hand, and go. Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb. and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel." So here we have children of Israel. They're complaining. They've got no water. They're fighting with Moses. Moses talks to God. God says, that's okay, just go to the rock, and I'm going to stand before you there, and I want you to smite the rock. Now, I started looking at this. I thought, really pretty amazing stuff. Actually, we'll talk about the rock later. Talk about the rock later. Before we get into that, we want to compare this to the New Testament. Let's go to John chapter 4. While you're turning there, John chapter 4. Think about this. Moses smites that rock. And the Bible says that was enough for all the people. Now, we know as far as the number that came out of Egypt was around 600,000 men. Doesn't talk about women, children. What is that, a million, two million people? God said that was enough water for all of them. We're talking a vast amount of water, like a river flowing out of this rock. It's absolutely amazing how much water must have flowed from that rock. All right, but John 4, we'll get the New Testament light here. Verse number 6, let's go. John 4, verse number 6. Now, Jacob's well was there. Jesus, therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well. And it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus saith unto her, give me to drink. So first we have this woman. She's coming to draw water. Notice it wasn't at home. She had to leave to go find it. It's not within yourself. You have to go, it's external of you. People say such crazy stuff, but she had to go out to get that water. Jesus Christ just trying to start the conversation. Give me to drink. Great way to start the conversation. Give me to drink. The Bible says, verse number 8, For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat. Then say the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest, Drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. And of course, this woman here in this passage, she's also a type of the natural man or natural woman in this case. And what's the first thing she thinks about? The flesh. Oh, you're a Jew. I'm a Samaritan. were huge you jews and samaritans we don't get along you're not supposed to ask me for anything you should you shouldn't want to take anything from my hands i don't wanna give you anything is what she's implying but uh... the the natural man the natural mind they think about flesh they think about all the time you get this is this is what the news does right there always trying to put out there this the the idea that race is such a problem in you know pit this group against that group in anything to cause chaos and trouble But to God, none of that matters, because you're all going to the grave. Black skin, or maybe that's really dark brown skin, light brown skin, it doesn't matter. It's all going to rot in the ground. Right? But this is the natural man. They think about their first birth, their flesh. That's what's important to them. It's how they distinguish themselves, set themselves apart. But it ain't about the flesh. Verse 10, the Bible says, Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, the gift of God. So I want to stop here just for a moment, right? Here he calls it the gift of God. It is not something that you can earn. If you earn it, it's not a gift. Right? It's not something you trade for. It's not like you have something of equal value that God has of eternal life. You're going to trade that. It doesn't work that way. Right? If God is going to give it to you, it is a gift. It is not something you earn. It's not something you trade for. It's not the fruit of your labors. I do X, Y, and Z. I belong to this church. I do these sacraments. I participate in all these religious activities. And God's going to trade me eternal life for that. That's not how this works. Right? It is a gift. The gift of God. And look at this. Back to verse number 10, Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is, who it is, the gift of God is a person. It is not just a thing, it is a person. The Bible says, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The Bible says, The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. through Jesus Christ our Lord. That is a gift. And that gift is a person. It is the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible says, whom our hands have handled eternal life. Jesus Christ, eternal life. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning of God. And all things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. And in Him was life. That life is in Jesus Christ. Every bit of it is Jesus Christ. And the Bible says, it is a gift. The Bible says, if thou knewest the gift of God and who it is that saith to thee, give me to drink. Give me to drink. Jesus Christ just wanted her to see your need. He wasn't asking for himself. He's trying to get her to see what her need is. Give me to drink. Thou wouldest ask of him, and he would have given thee living water. Now, that's amazing. We think about here, this woman has a great need. The Lord Jesus Christ, He's not putting her down for her need. He's not belittling her for her need. He's going to make that provision. We see that same thing in the Old Testament. The nation of Israel, they've come to a place, they have no water. They're chiding with Moses. They're complaining, murmuring against Moses in his face, blaming him for all of this stuff. And yet, God didn't drop them in hell. He could have. God could have opened up the earth. He could have swallowed those people. But He didn't do that. He wanted to make provision. He wanted to get them the answer to what they needed. What would sustain their, in that case, physical life, as a picture of what we need to sustain us spiritually. Alright, but the Bible says this in the end of verse number 10, "...thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water." Now, keep John chapter 4. We'll come back there. But let's go to Jeremiah chapter 2. Jeremiah chapter 2. Jeremiah chapter 2. And let's go to verse number 11. Jeremiah chapter 2, verse number 11. This is God dealing with the nation of Israel. changed their gods, which are yet no gods, but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit." Man, people, if they are a fan of the Chicago Red Sox, they are a fan till they die. They don't give up that God. But the real, true God, the living God, man, people give him up for nothing. Terrible. God says, verse 12, be astonished. That is something. You should be astonished at that. Trade the true God, the God of heaven and earth and the sea, for a statue. Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid. Be ye very desolate, saith the Lord. For my people have committed two evils. They have forsaken me. the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water." Just read back verse number 12, "'Sayeth the Lord.'" Everybody get that? That's the Lord speaking. And He says, "'They have forsaken Me.'" Who is that? The Lord? What did He say He is? "'The fountain of living waters.'" Let's go back to John 4. Keep Jeremiah. John chapter 4. I want you to see this side-by-side. John chapter 4 and verse number 10. Jesus, who's speaking? Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest ask of him, and he would have given thee Living water. Now wait a minute. If the Lord, God, Jehovah, in the Old Testament, is the fountain, He is the source of living water, and Jesus Christ comes and He talks to this woman and He says, oh yeah, you could ask me, I'm the source. I could give you living water. Who does that make Jesus Christ? Almighty God. Jesus Christ, Almighty God. He is the source. He is where anyone who has living water, anyone who wants living water, the only place to get it is Jesus Christ. Jeremiah chapter 2, that's Almighty God. Praise be the Lord. That's excellent. The living waters come from Almighty God. Jesus Christ is that Almighty God. Let's go back to Exodus chapter 17. Now see how we get that water. Exodus chapter 17, and the Bible says in verse number 6, Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock. The rock. So first of all, when we're going to get this living water, when these people who are dying with thirst and have no water, have nothing to sustain their bodies, when God is going to give them water, where does it come from? A rock. A rock. Now, I thought this was really amazing. This is the first mention of the word rock in the Bible. God says, pay attention to that. That's important. You should pay attention when this is first mentioned. First mention of the word rock in all the Bible. There are 128 verses that reference the word rock. 142 occurrences of the word rock. And this is the very first one. A source of water. More than that, more than that, a rock that is smitten. Amazing. Amazing. So I just started going through these. I thought, man, we could spend the whole night looking at rock. That is absolutely cool. I'll just read you some of these. Deuteronomy 32.4, he is the rock. His work is perfect. For all his ways are judgment. A God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. Deuteronomy 32.15, lightly esteemed the rock of his salvation. Deuteronomy 32.18, of the rock. that begat thee, thou art unmindful." 1 Samuel chapter 2, 2. Neither is there any rock like our God. 2 Samuel 22, 2 and 3. The God of my rock, in Him will I trust. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my high tower and my refuge, my Savior. Thou savest me from violence. For who is a God? Save the Lord. And who is a rock? Save our God. Psalm 28, 1, unto thee will I cry, O Lord, my rock, be not silent to me. Psalm 31, 3, for thou art my rock and my fortress. Psalm 61, 2, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. That, and that's, I'm telling you, that is just a taste of that word rock. And I figured I'd try and move past that though and give you something here. So this is, this is an object lesson. I really meant to grab a rock from outside before I came in here because I wanted to show you, I lost that rock from the Philippines, but that's okay. another story for another day through i'd grab a little rock big rocket doesn't matter if i if i was holding a rock i'll tell you the rock is not god am i speaking plainly god is not a rock uh... but you gotta say that because people's think such crazy stuff these days that they think they think god is everywhere and god is in everything in god is in the light and god is in the tiles and god is if god is whatever you want him to be Not at all, right? God is the creator of the heavens and the earth. He is not a rock. But there is something about a rock that God wants you to learn about him. Rock. It's an object lesson. Same thing, because I want to mention this. People all the time, as of lately, I've heard this a lot anyway, oh, well, if you're saved, you're a spiritual Jew, and, you know, the church has replaced Israel, and that's how they come up with this mid-trib, post-trib, rapture nonsense. And it's like, there are so many hundreds of clear passages that mark a difference between the church and Israel. You know, our blessings are in heaven, our promise is the Savior, their blessings are on earth, their promise is the land, and so on and so forth. But they go to one verse here, one verse there, which says, well, you know, we are Jews inwardly and not Jews outwardly, see, and that's... It's the same thing. God, there's an object lesson there. God wants you to learn something. How the Jews had a relationship with God, now the church can have a relationship with God. But they're not the same, right? The church is not Israel. Israel is not the church. God is not a rock, and a rock is not God. Right? There is something about that, though, God wants you to learn from. A rock is solid. It's not sand, right? You guys were on the coast, right? You stand at the waters as the shoreline, you know, as those waters come in, what happened? Your feet like just start sinking in there, right? What happens? That sand shifts. It moves around. It's not a solid place to stand on. The Lord talks about that, right? The foolish man built his house upon the sand. The wise man built his house upon the rock. Why? Because the rock is solid. It is a firm place. It provides a good foundation for you to build your house on. And our God is the rock. He is a solid place. He does not change. It doesn't matter if the winds come, or the rains come, or cancer comes, or trouble comes, or difficulty comes. God does not change. It is a solid place for you to build your life. That is our God. He is the rock. It is not dust. It's not water. Right? You can't even stand on water. The Lord Jesus Christ could stand on water, but that's different. You walk out there, you go right down in it, right? You can't stand on it. It's not solid. It's not hard. It molds. It changes. You could put it in a cup or you could pour it out. It just kind of scatters out on the floor. Right? There's no shape to it, no definition to it. That's our God. Our God is solid. Our God is unchanging. Our God, not only that, you think about the castles of old and all these buildings, even our own homes these days, you know, they're built, I don't know, Chris Jones could probably tell you better. They gotta take so many hundreds of miles an hour winds, you know, so they've got concrete rock, right? And then they've got poured concrete into the different cells there. Why? Because it's solid. It's meant to take force. It will protect you from the elements. The same is true with our God. He'll protect you from the enemies. He'll protect you from trouble and difficulty, allow you to have peace and hope and joy through all of those troubles and all of those trials, though they may come upon you. Jesus Christ, He is our rock. I think that's just really amazing. Again, we could have spent all night looking at rock. But the Bible says in Exodus chapter 17, verse number six, Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb, and thou shalt smite the rock. Now, if I had the rock, I'd make better object lesson here, but that's okay. I'm getting old, I forgot, right? But he didn't say rub the rock, right? He didn't say tap the rock. He didn't say touch the rock. He said smite the rock. I'm gonna do it here. I'll do it here. Because there's an object lesson. There's something God wants you to see. It is not gentle. It is quite violent. when he says, smite the rock. And you think about what happened to the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible says that they smote Him with their fists, and He smote them with their palms. And the Bible says that He gave His back to the smiters, right? They beat Him with whips across His back, tore all His back out of there. And then the Bible says they nailed His hands to a cross. They nailed His feet to a cross. You don't get a nail Threw a hand into a large piece of wood by gently touching it You smite it You smite it And that's what happened to our rock Let's get Isaiah 53 Isaiah chapter 53 The Bible says in verse number one, who hath believed our report. and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed. For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant and as a root out of a dry ground. He hath no form nor comeliness, and when we shall see him there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, and we hid as it were our faces from him. He was despised and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows, yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed. The rock was smitten for us." John chapter 19. John chapter 19. The Bible says Verse 31, the Jews therefore, because it was preparation that the body should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, for that Sabbath day was an high day, sought Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. Then came the soldiers and break the legs of the first and of the other which was crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was dead already, they break not his legs, but one of the soldiers with the spear pierced his side. And forthwith came there out blood and water. That's pretty amazing. The rock was smitten. And what came out? Water. water. Now, I've heard people say, you know, all these health reasons as to why it would have happened. None of that really, I guess, tickles my fancy, if you will, there. It is the Lord Jesus Christ, the rock that followed them, Exodus 17, the rock that gave them water to drink, the rock that sustained them, was smitten. And what comes out is water. That's pretty amazing. Now let's go back to John chapter 4. Let's get the rest of the layout there. John chapter 4. Verse number 11. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From whence then hast thou that living water? thinking physical. That's natural man. Verse 12, "...art thou greater than our father Jacob?" which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Art thou greater than our father Jacob?" Like, are you kidding me? If only you knew. Greater than Jonas, greater than Solomon, greater than the temple is the Almighty God, the God of that temple, the God of Jonas, the God of Solomon. He's standing right there. Greater than Jacob, He's greater than everybody. Nobody is greater than Him. Verse number 13, Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again. No help in the physical. No help in the physical. Verse 14, But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst. Never thirst. Think about those words. 100% complete satisfaction. Praise God, you can sing with the songwriter. Hallelujah, I have found him. Hallelujah, I have found him whom my soul, whom my soul so long hath craved. Jesus satisfies my longing, my every longing through his life, I now am saved. Through his blood, I now am saved. Jesus Christ, never thirst. if you drink of that water." One hundred percent complete satisfaction. You don't get that in Buddha. You don't get that in Muhammad. You don't get that in booze. You don't get that in whatever else you want to name. It ain't there. But Jesus Christ, you drink of that water. It is all you will ever need. And the Bible says, verse 14, "...whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him." So it's not naturally, but once you meet the Lord Jesus Christ, you receive Him as your Savior, He gives you that living water. Now it's within you. He comes to live within you, right? Jesus Christ never takes it away. Praise God to never thirst. That water is going to be in you. That water is going to be there through thick and thin, through dry times, through desolate places. Jesus Christ will always be there. And that water of life will be there for you to drink all you ever need. And the Bible says, But the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water, springing up into everlasting life. A well of water. That's that source, Jesus Christ living within you, just springing up. Springing up man when you've got that source of water within you you have so much What do you want to do? Give it to your neighbor praise God but You because let's stop for a moment right you'd think verse 15 the woman say the name sir give me this water That I thirst not neither come hither to draw. I You would think, just on what it sounds like, you would have to have something wrong with your brain to not want this living water. Right? Never thirst. Complete 100% satisfaction. If you're considering eternal life, forgiveness of all sin. To be with the Lord Jesus Christ forever. Never anything, you know, you're going to a place, the Bible says God's going to wipe away all tears. God says there'll be no more sorrow, no more sickness. like you something has to be wrong with you mentally for you to like turn that down right you would it's because you'd sound like what fool wouldn't want that well but most people don't have you noticed that man that wellspring of water, man, just flowing out of here, anybody could have that, anytime they could come in here, Thursday night and hear about it, Sunday morning, hear about it, Sunday night, hearing about it, there's 30 some thousand people in the land, we don't have a fraction of that. Why is that? Answers here. Verse number 16. Jesus saith unto her, go, call thy husband, and come hither." You say, well, that's not so bad. I mean, is this like a Mormon thing? You gotta be married? No, no, no, keep going. Verse 17, the woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said I have no husband, for thou hast had five husbands, and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband. In that saidst thou truly. That's why people don't want it. See, because the real problem is sin. Sin is the real problem. Sin is what brings death. Sin is what brings trouble. Sin is what brings sorrow. Sin is what brings difficulty. And the Lord Jesus Christ knows this. He came to die for the sins of the whole world, but He requires, He said, Mark 1, verse 15. We can turn there, it's not far. Mark 1, verse 15. and saying, the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand, repent ye, repent ye and believe the gospel. That's what he said. And the clearest way I can ever explain it, Brother James gave this illustration, I thought it was perfect. Jesus Christ is the door. You don't get in, you don't get eternal life, you don't get forgiveness of sin unless you go through the door. But repentance is the front porch. Because if you don't see your sin as a problem, why would you ever walk through the door? If you don't believe that your sin is going to take you to a place called hell, a burning, fiery torment for all of eternity, why would you ever walk through that door? If sin is not a problem, and Jesus died for your sins, but you don't care, or you're not concerned, or you just don't want to think about it, Why would you ever call on Him? Why would you ever believe the gospel? Why would you ever receive Him? I'm telling you, the world is full of people that know a fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross for sins. They know a fact that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, but they never see their sin as a problem, and therefore don't call on Him to save them from a burning, fiery hell. And the Lord Jesus Christ, he says, I have this water. I would gladly give it to you if you'd just ask me. She says, yeah, come on, give it to me. He says, all right, go get your husband. Wait a minute, I don't have a husband. That's the problem. Because you've had five of them. And the guy you're with now, you're not even married to. all a big problem. Now, I'm not saying, please, hear me right, hear me right, I am not saying that if you have multiple husbands, you can't be saved, or if you're with someone who's not your husband, you can't be saved. But man, you ought to see your sin as a problem. That's what the Lord Jesus Christ is showing her. Your sin is a problem. Now, what's holding her back from getting that living water? was her not wanting to deal with that sin, right? Why was Jesus Christ smitten? We read it. He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon him. He received all of that suffering because of sin. And God wants us to turn from it. God commanded all men everywhere to repent. That doesn't mean you're never going to sin again, but man, there ought to be a changing of direction, right? Sorrow, godly sorrow, for the evil that you've done or that you've thought and that you've said, man, it ought to bother you. This woman, she's married, divorced, married, divorced, married, divorced, married, divorced, married, divorced, and now with some other dude. Like, that doesn't bother you? That should bother you. It's a problem. Lord Jesus Christ trying to point it out to her so he can get her saved. But you gotta see your sin as a problem. All right, let's keep going. Everybody's nervous enough now. Verse 19, the woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. Oh, yeah. Somebody's been keeping records. He knows when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake. It's all written down, buddy. And it ain't a fat guy. All right. Sorry. Verse 20, Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Trying to, like, you know, change the subject and kind of lower the tension in the room there. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh. when ye shall neither in this mountain nor yet at Jerusalem worship the Father." None of that stuff matters. You want to talk about where these people worship and where those people worship, that's the Lord of Glory standing right there. He's going to die on the cross for your sins and rise from the dead. Which mountain you're on, which part of the earth you're living in, man, all that stuff is nonsense. Ye worship ye know not what. Ooh, he just puts it on. We know that we know what we worship for salvation is of the Jews. That's to the Jew first, right? Come on. But the hour cometh and now is when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father seeketh such for, uh, Yeah, for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. The woman saith unto Him, I know that Messiah is cometh, which is called Christ. When He is come, He will tell us all things. And I love this. This is Jesus Christ. He makes it so simple. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee, Am he? She knew Messiah was coming. One day He was going to show up. He's like, that's me. You're talking to Him. Now watch this. Verse 27, And upon this came His disciples, and marveled that He talked with the woman. Yet no man said, What seekest thou, or why talkest thou with her? You know, that whole race thing. Verse 28, The woman then, look at this, left her water pot, You know what that tells me? She found what she was looking for. Praise be to God. She didn't need that water pot anymore. What did God say? Jeremiah chapter 2, they've hewed them out cisterns, like a bottle of some kind to hold that water. Broken cisterns can't even hold water. None of it's any good. And then here she found that living water. Now watch this. Come on, we got time. We got time. It's okay. We got nothing else to do. And look at this. Water, it's wonderful. All right, upon this came his disciples. We read that. Verse 28, the woman then left her water pot and went her way into the city. Now watch this. And saith to the men, come and see a man which told me all things ever I did. Is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city and came unto him. In the meanwhile, his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. But he said, Unto them I have meat to eat that you know not of. And just let's skip down verse number 35 you got a this is just good Bible say not ye there yet four months and then cometh harvest Behold I say unto you lift up your eyes and look on the fields for they are white already to harvest And skip down verse number 39 and many of the Samaritans came Of the of that city believed on him for the sayings of the woman which testified he told me all that ever I did So when the Samaritans were come unto him they besought him that he would tarry with them and he abode there two days and many more believed because of his own word. And I'm going to close with this. Our church is unique, but it shouldn't be unique. And we have a big emphasis on witnessing. But that's because the Bible has a big emphasis on witnessing. Over and over and over and over in all the pictures and all the types, you see like this woman, she leaves her water pot after talking to the source of living waters and what does she do? Come and see, come and see. What does she do? She's telling others about that fountain of living waters. I'm going to show you something. Romans 10. We'll be done. Romans chapter 10. Because this is so important. If you are saved tonight, you are saved because someone told you. I am saved because someone told me. That's how Jesus Christ established this thing. He died for the sins of the world. He was buried. He rose from the dead, willing to save anybody and everybody who's willing to be saved. But the way that salvation is meant to be communicated to the world, Jesus Christ sent His disciples. His disciples, which have and know the truth, go and tell others. That's how this works. So we make a big ado about witnessing, but the Bible does this. Romans 10. Just take a look at this. People say, man, I'm going to give them the Romans road. Romans 10, verse 9, that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Praise God. Man, that's a blessing. All you've got to do is believe. Believe, look at verse number nine, or 10, for with a heart, men believeth unto righteousness. You wanna have righteousness from God? You wanna have forgiveness of sin? You want all of that taken away? All you gotta do is believe in your heart. And with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation. And when we're taking somebody down the Roman's road, we just skip 11 and 12 and we go right to 13. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Praise God. But what did God put after verse 10? Verse number 11. For the Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Are you forgiven of all sin? Do you have eternal, everlasting life? You gotta tell somebody. Man, if you, I don't know, maybe if you won the lottery, you wouldn't tell anybody. But if you had some great thing happen to you, what would you do? You'd call your parents, you'd call your brother, you'd call your sister, you'd call your friends. Man, let me tell you about this great thing that happened to me. You have forgiveness of all sin and eternal everlasting life given to you absolutely free because of the sufferings of the Lord Jesus Christ. And now, don't you wanna tell somebody? Don't you wanna let them know they can be free from sin? Don't you wanna let them know how they can have that great salvation too? God said, if you believe, He shall not be ashamed. That's affected by shame, as though it were wrong, right? People are afraid to speak up as though it was inappropriate, incorrect, wrong, or inferior. You have the greatest thing in all the earth. Jesus Christ said, what shall it profit a man if he should gain the whole world and lose his own soul? You have the greatest thing in all the earth. We ought not to be ashamed. Well, praise be to God, man. You can have that living water through the Lord Jesus Christ. Drink it up. Just soak it up, man. Swim in it. It's the greatest thing there ever was. And, man, you ought not to be ashamed to tell somebody. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank You for this day. Thank You for this time. I pray that You'd, again, Father, just bless our pastor, heal him, help him take away this cancer. God, we love You. We thank You for this living water. And we ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
