The Betrayal
Series Mark
This expository sermon examines the story of the betrayal of Jesus by Judas. Dr. Felker shows how the betrayal likely was conceived months earlier when Judas realized that Jesus was not the kind of Messianic King he was hoping for. He shows how the betrayal was planned and promised with the leaders of Israel, partly due to his own greed. Yet Judas found out that Jesus knew about his plot and revealed it at the Last Supper. Pastor Felker explains why Jesus revealed the betrayal and how the disciples responded. Finally, in spite of the exposure of his plot and the warning given, pastor Felker shares how the betrayal was perpetrated with Judas securing a large show of force to have Jesus arrested. Jesus would be identified with a hypocritical kiss. Then pastor Felker shows the terrible consequences of his sins. The message includes applications regarding self-examination of the genuineness of our own faith, our own propensity for covetousness, selfish ambition, and hypocrisy.
