And dear Heavenly Father, thou
hast asked us to pray for needs. We have done so. We ask thee
to take these needs, so many that have needs of healing, of
comfort, of cheer, of provision, and we take them before the throne
of grace and the Lord Jesus Christ who intercedes for every one
of these, whether it's for salvation, whether it's for physical healing,
coming back to normalcy once again. When we take it to Thee,
Lord, we trust Thou would provide the need, and those that are
having these needs, give them Thy peace, regardless of what's
happening surrounding them, whatever need they have, that they may
have Thy peace that passes all understanding, be able to put
up with all that is there. In Jesus' name we ask and pray.
Amen. All right, we're glad that everybody's
here. Those that are listening to us, give us a call if you
wish at 856-261-9018 or questions at bftbc.org. Glad to hear from you. In the
book of 1 Corinthians again, that last verse, we took up just
a half of the verse last Thursday. We'll cover the rest half as
well and move on to chapter 16. And that's page number one. What is it? It was 1521 or something. 1521. Okay, thank you. All right, let's read verse 58.
We'll just stop there. We'll get to chapter 16 a little
bit later, together. Therefore, my beloved brethren,
be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the
Lord, forasmuch as ye know that ye are not vain in the Lord. The last third we talked about
for therefore goes back to what main theme in chapter 15? What
main theme has Paul been talking to? Any answer on that? Mr. Dan? Death versus life. Death
versus life. All right, Tammy? Victory over
sin in the grave. Okay. What else? Deliverance from the law. Deliverance
from the law, Moses, that's right. It's about resurrection, isn't
it? Bodies that have died, incorruptible, will be made from corruption.
Those that are Christians that have died, that have been buried,
and those of us who are alive, who are mortal, will turn to
immortality when the Lord Jesus returns in the air at the rapture.
And so I come to verse 58. I say we've talked about it before.
I ask the question again, who is referring to in my beloved
brethren? Who are they? Pastor Dan? Born-again Christians at Corinth.
Born-again Christians at Corinth, and by application, those are
genuine Christians born-again saved Christians today. Now does
that include all the ones that call themselves Christian? The
general ones, like the ones who accepted Jesus. Who accept Jesus? Pastor Dan? I'll start with what
I call small C Christians and capital C Christians. It doesn't
apply to the small C Christians. Small C Christians are those
that are brought to me as part of the modernism of today. Modernism is an apostasy of churches
that are very liberal and are in the dark and do not know the
truth. So just because their name is a Christian denomination
or Christian group, does that make them genuine Christians,
Bible Christians? No. Bill? No, that's right. They have to believe in their
heart. they have to be thoroughly convinced that the Lord is the
Savior, and the Lord is God. He is deity, as it says in the
Gospel of John. If they assume an understanding,
they value their intellectual understanding that Jesus is the
Savior, that's not a true belief. that's just something that they
reasoned to, or assume, or something like that, is not thoroughly
convinced, convincing to them. So the beloved brethren, be just
genuine, true Christians, that trust in the Lord Jesus generally
as their Savior. Tammy? Last week I looked at
the word for brethren, and it said it felt us. Adolphus, yes. And my husband said that means
they had something in common. So if somebody isn't genuinely
saved, then they don't have that bond in Christ. That's right. So just because somebody has
to remember a Christian Church instead of being Muslim, or Jewish,
or Hindu, does not make them a genuine Christian at all. You
must trust genuinely the Lord Jesus, who died for their sins,
and accept Him as your Savior. All right, so now he's talking
to his beloved brethren. And last week we also covered
what the word steadfast is. How would you define that word?
He says, be steadfast. That's a command, isn't it? What
does it mean, steadfast? Any answer to that, Bill? Determine. Determine, that's good. Determine
in what way? They have their mind fixed on
a goal. OK. And they're working towards
that goal. OK. And what goal do you think
that would be? Any old goal? Not to be distracted
by other things. Proving firm to the doctrines
of the faith. Are some people steadfast in
total and complete error? They sure are. Is that what God
means by these beloved brethren, steadfast in error? No, just
the faith of the scriptures, the doctrine of the scriptures.
And last week, remember, we talked about this word unmovable. What
did we decide on that? What does that mean in the hands
of that? Unmovable. Tammy? I think the grammar of
it, it cannot be moved. Cannot be moved. Now what if
somebody is in complete and total error, scriptural error? Should
those people be unmovable in their error? No. Often are, absolutely. I was
talking to a lady, Mrs. Rose Schlegel, today, visiting
her as a chaplain of the hospice, and we talked about John chapter
9, the blind man who was healed by the Lord Jesus. He said, go
wash in the pool of Siloam. He washed and became seeing.
And those Pharisees said, who are you? Why are you trying to
teach us? And so on. They were unmovable in their
error. And in that chapter, it says, I came that those that
are blind might be made to see. The blind man physically made
to see spiritually. And those that can see, that
is physically see, but not spiritually, may be made blind. Those Pharisees
certainly were made blind. And so unmovable are the things
of the Lord. and scripture, and unmovable things are true and
faithful that way. So steadfast, unmovable. And
then what's this word abounding mean? What do they do abound
in? Any hands on that? Questions
at bftbc.org or 856-261-9018. Yes, Tammy? In the work of the
Lord, like in Ephesians 2.10 says, Yes, before our day we should
walk in them. So, work of the Lord, scriptural
work, scriptural ministry, and unmovable. We've mentioned last
week many things in the churches that are not unmovable. What
are some of the things that people have changed in the churches
as they've gone from decade to decade, for years and years. Started one way or another and
moved away. What are some things they've moved away from in many
churches? Question there. Their own doctrinal statement.
Doctrinal statement moved away from doctrine. They changed it.
They may have it still in their doctrinal statement, but they
don't practice it. What else? Yes, Tammy? Christian standards.
Christian standards have flown away. They used to have strong
ones. What else? What else have they moved away from, many of
these churches? The Gospel. The Gospel of the
Lord Jesus. They've moved away from the churches
and schools and so on. Anything else? What about the
Bible? They've moved away the Bible.
All kinds of verses. They've thrown out the King James Bible,
which is an accurate translation from proper Hebrew, Aramaic,
and Greek. What about dress standards in
churches? Yes. Yes. Yes. It has changed. Changed, changed, changed. Everything. Changed everything. And all these different things
have been not unmovable, but we have to have an unmovability
among the dearly beloved brethren. Abounding in the work of the
Lord. What in the last part of this verse says to say about,
you know, what do they know in verse 58? Questions at bftbc.org,
856-261-9018. What do they know? He says, you
know. What verse? 58. What did the pastor say? Why
is that? Bound in the work of the Lord, they should know that
their labor for steadfastness is not empty. Not empty, not
laying in the Lord. When you labor for the Lord,
there's a Christian hymn that talks about that, doesn't it?
Let us labor for the Master, from dawn till setting sun. Let
us talk of all His wondrous work and care. When all our life is
over, work on earth is done, and the roll is called up yonder.
We'll be there. Labor for the Master, not in
vain. And that's worthwhile, and we must remember that. Any
other comments on verse 58 or chapter 15 before we move on
to chapter 16? Well, let's read verse 16, 1,
2, and 3 together. Now concerning the collection
for the saints. As I have given order to the
Christians of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of
the week, let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath
prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. And
when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them
will I send to bring their liberality unto Jerusalem. All right, in
verse number one. collection for the saints. What
do they mean by collection? Any hands on that? Collection. Ten? Well, in 2 Corinthians,
the Apostle Paul talks about a gift that was given from the
Church of Corinth to the poor Christians in Jerusalem. Right. Ten? Ten percent? The churches of Galatia, the
main churches of Galatia. The region of Galatia, right
up in this area here, that's the whole region of Galatia,
and the map is Anna. I don't think the collection
is for the saints of Galatia. It's concerning the collection
for the saints. As I've given order to the churches
of Galatia, I thought I was seeing order as a command, right? Because
he's told the churches of Galatia the method of doing it. And verse number three tells
the destination of these gifts. What is the destination, the
city? Jerusalem. Jerusalem, all right. So, he's,
the collection, what is a saint in scripture? And what is a saint
in some of the churches that misuse that word? Yes, Anna? My Greek word is hagios. Hagios. Which means holy ones or set-apart
ones. Set-apart ones, yes. Linda? Well, the Catholic Church makes
a project out of it. Okay. Do the Catholic Church
saints, are they biblical saints as defined in the Bible? The
Bible is a saint. Yes, Pastor Dan? The standard
is different. The rule is different. It's more man-based criteria
than God-based criteria. As far as what genuine capital
S Saint is, it was a phony small S Saint. Anne, do you have something? Oh, well, some of them whom they
call saints are in fact saints, but many of them who In the Bible, whenever the Bible
uses the word saint, what does it mean? Any hands on that? Pastor
Dan and Tammy. It's sanctified by Jesus Christ,
the work. It is the work of Jesus Christ,
it's not man's. But in Rome, it's the work of
the person that makes them a saint, rather than the work of the Lord
Jesus Christ. So in the Bible, only genuine
Christians that have received the Lord Jesus as their Savior
and Redeemer are saints. Nothing to do with anything else
than genuine Christian believers. That's the way it's used. Hagia,
set apart ones by the Holy Spirit, by genuine faith and trust in
Christ. Yes, Dan? If someone becomes
a saint, a Kabbalist saint, at the moment of salvation, the
way they become a small-ass saint is by what they call canonization,
by committee, or let's decide whether or not someone can be
a small-ass saint or not. based upon if it's confirmed
they've done some wonderful thing or some wonderful person, which
gives them a ticket out of purgatory and they're into heaven. So if
that's their false doctrine, we don't believe that at all. A lot of Catholics believe that
they have to have three miracles before they become a saint. Now
just because the Roman Catholic Church calls someone, appoints
someone to be a saint, does that mean they're genuinely born again,
saved, going to heaven, trusting the Lord Jesus as their Savior
or Redeemer? Pastor Dan? They're merely a small-s saint,
a small-c Christian. It's not based upon what a community
does. It's based upon how they went
in in their lifetime. what they did with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Bill? Yeah, St. Teresa always said
that you pray to the Pope, you put your trust in the Pope and
your faith in the Pope. That's entirely wrong. Only through
Jesus Christ are we to be saved. The Pope has absolutely no power
at all on earth. All right? Biblically, we've
got a stick of the scriptures, and the scriptures always use
the saint as a denigrate to the genuine Christians, true Christians,
and genuinely born-again Christians that have trusted the Lord Jesus
as their Savior and Redeemer. All these saints. So that's a
collection for the saints. How did they know to make a collection
in verse number 1 of 16.1? Who told them that? Any hands
on that? Who told them? Who told them
to have a collection? The Tammy. The Apostle Paul gave
an order. All right, he gave an order.
So these Christians there at Corinth, the genuine saved people. And also to the Churches of Galatia.
The Churches of Galatia. Galatia is in that general area
right over here, this general area of Galatia, whole area there. And Corinth is over here, there's
Corinth right there. And so the order was to take
some collections, What were they going to collect? Oh, anyone
else? What were they going to collect? Chickens? Goats? Yes. Farm. Money? Linda? Farm? Yes, money. Okay. Anna? They were providing for the Saints
of Jerusalem. I mean, theoretically, it wouldn't
have to be money, but it would make the most sense, because
it would be the easiest to carry to Jerusalem, where the money
could then be converted, if necessary, into whatever the saints of Jerusalem
had need of. So, the saints of Jerusalem,
the Church of Galatia, in other words, they told them to do that,
even so do ye. The command was there. He should
not do it. That's another command. Yes,
Anna? He's referring to instructions that he gave to another, to,
well, churches, churches in Galatia, and he's saying, well, I employ
the churches in Galatia to do this, and I want you to do it
too. So do ye. You and Corinth do
the same thing. That's correct. And then in verse
number 2, first of all, questions at bftbc.org or 856-261. 9-0-1-1-8. OK, if it's a call
or comment, I'd like to hear from you. And then when is this
to take place, folks? Yes, Jacob, right here. Yes,
Jake, you're from Texas. Go ahead, Jacob. Yes, Jacob, right ahead. Yes, Jacob. Hello, Pastor Wade
and everybody. Hello. Yes. Hello. Pastor Wade
in Acts 11. In 11.26, at the very end of
the verse, it says that the disciples were called Christians first
in Antioch. And then I'll read the rest of
this. Speak up real loud until we hear you there. In these days
came prophets from Jerusalem. This is, I'm reading from Acts
11.27 through 29. to be a great dirt throughout
all the world, which came to pass in the days of Claudius
Caesar. Then the disciples, every man according to his ability,
determined to send relief unto his brethren which dwelt in Judea,
which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands
of Barnabas and Saul." I think this is the first time in the
book of Acts it mentions this, but it does repeat it a couple
of times. All right. Thank you very much. Let's wave
to Jacob. There in Texas. Appreciate that. Jacob and his
brother, Gromer. Mrs. Gromer as well. Dave. All
right. The first time what? First time
priority set was used in the scriptures. Is that what he said?
What? The collection? I think that's
what he said. First called Christians at Antioch.
I remember that. First called Christians at Antioch.
That's true. So the question in verse Two, when does this
collection take place? Any hands on that? Linda? Is it Sabbath? What does it say? Anna? Okay, Tammy? And what is the first day? Today. It's not Sunday. Sunday is the
first day. It's not today. Thursday. It's not Thursday.
It's not Monday. This is the fifth day. It's the
Sunday is the first day of the week. Sunday. Yes. In the Old
Testament, what's the difference between the Sabbath day in the
Old Testament and Sunday in the New Testament? First day of the
week versus the seventh day of the week. Bob? The Sabbath is
the last day of the week. And what's the difference between
what they do on the Sabbath, Old Testament Sabbath, and New
Testament, First Day of the Week? Law versus grace. Sabbath is
law. Sixth day of the week is Sabbath.
Seventh day of the week is law. First day of the week is grace.
And what are you supposed to do on the Old Testament Sabbath?
What are you supposed to do on the First Day of the Week? Well, the Lord was resurrected
on the First Day of the Week. Lord Jesus Christ, and as far
as the seventh day, they were not to work. They were not to
do any type of labor. And in fact, they could only
walk so far. A lot of various laws in the
Old Testament about that. Bill? On Sabbath, the Lord rested
on the seventh day from His creation. And we were commanded in the
Ten Commandments to observe the Sabbath until grace came. What happened in grace came?
Is there anything about the Sabbath to remember in the New Testament?
Was that commandment repeated anywhere in the New Testament?
No. Sabbath, Sabbath. Keep the Sabbath. The Ten Commandments. Yes, Tammy.
The Pharisees often got angry with the Lord because He healed
on the Sabbath day. They accused Him of working on
the Sabbath. But He was only displaying His
omnipotence. Some people, they messed up on
the difference between the Sabbath and the first day of the week.
Yes. They're messed up. How are they messed up? Anna? Well, some people believe
in the Sunday Sabbath, and other people believe that Christians
should worship on the seventh day of the week. Are they right
or wrong scripturally? Are they right or wrong scripturally,
to worship on the seventh day of the week? They're wrong. Definitely
wrong. It's Old Testament. Old Testament? What is that? It's Old Testament.
No, I mean, yeah, it is Old Testament worship on the seventh day of
the week, but New Testament is just an act. it was just Jewish. Yes. And
they would do it on the Sabbath, on the Saturday. That's right. And then the Christians would
do it on Sunday. Right. Anna and Pastor Dan. See, in the Old Testament, they
had the seventh day of rest because they were remembering the creation
when God rested in six days. God made bread on the earth and
He rested on the seventh day. And so they rested on the seventh
day. But in the New Testament, we know that
Christ arose on the first day of the week, which is why we
believe that we have to worship the Lord on the first day of
the week. It's why it's sometimes called the Lord's Day. Do the Jews of the Old Testament
always keep the Sabbath as God wanted them to keep it? Hands
on that? That's right. But didn't the
Old Testament Jews always keep it? That's what happened. If there was a violation, there
was consequences. They did not always keep it because
there was penalties when they broke it. But just reading generally
in our scripture reading, Jeremiah and others, God says, why you
don't honor the Sabbath? You're just not keeping it. He
was very angry at the Jews for violating his Old Testament Sabbath. I was just going to say, well,
never mind. It's all right. OK, Hannah. Well,
even when the Sabbath was broken, the laws that they were depending
on were not always enforced. There were many laws that were
broken. It would be if Israel did not follow the law, they
often strayed. from following the Lord. There
were many times they were serving other gods. You get this idea
that they were always worshiping the Lord, but they weren't. They
weren't. Yes, Rob from Chicago. Go ahead,
Rob. Hi, Pastor. Everybody. Exodus 31. says, wherefore the children
of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout
their generations for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between
me and the children of Israel forever. Very good scripture
verse. Thanks for that. I appreciate
that. 31 what? 31, 16, and 17. Thank you. Let's wave
to Rob in Chicago. Thank you, Rob. Appreciate that
very much. And other questions, ask your questions at bftbc.org
or 856-261-9018. Give us a call or comment. Glad to hear from you. Vaughn.
It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever, for
in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh
day He rested and was refreshed. Now, in the New Testament, For
genuine Christians, what does God want them to do on the first
day of the week, which is Sunday? Any hands on that? Go to church. All right. What else? Pastor
Dan. Lay in store. All right. Anna. First faith, not the assembling
of yourselves. That's good for Nick. Is that
Bob? No, no, there's no rest on the
first day of the week. No, never. That's Sabbath, Sabbath,
Sabbath. Sabbath means rest. Yes. Yes,
Pastor Dan. when it was all finished and
done, that they would have a right to indicate there was no more
need for that old system anymore. Yes. A lot of Christians get
it mixed up. Now what is usually done and
should be done on the first day that we call the Lord's Day,
for genuine Christians, not heathen people or people who are little
to see Christians, what does God say in His Word that should
be done? One or two things at least. What
are they? Any hands on that? Pastor Dan? Ideally, you get
together with a brother, go to the capital to seek Christians
and fellowship, and hear the Word of God preached, and be
able to sing doctrine-based hymns. You have to reflect upon what
God has done for us. First day of the week, that's
good. Tammy? I remembered reading this, but
I couldn't remember where. It's Isaiah 58, 13. If thou shalt
turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, this is for the Jews, from doing
thy pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight,
the holy of the Lord, honorable, and shalt honor him, not doing
thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine
own words. Then thou shalt delight thyself
in the Lord, and I will cause thee to ride upon high places
of the earth. and feed thee with the heritage
of Jacob, thy father, for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken
it." So, it was a commandment, but the Lord also gave a promise
with it. In the Old Testament of the Sabbath?
Yes, with the Jews. Now, the assembly of shalls together
on the first day of the week for genuine believers, Christians,
in their churches. In verse number two, what else
should be done on the first day of the week? When they are assembled?
Any hands on that? 10? Take up a collection the
first day of the week. Now did the disciples after the
Lord, even during when the Lord Jesus stood on this earth, did
they do anything special on the first day of the week? Any hands
on that? And if so, what? Anna? in the upper room. All right. But the door is locked. The door
is locked. That's right. The first day of
the week is at 10. And they met together for prayer,
for fellowship, for breaking of bread, and for something else. Yes. Now, after
the Lord Jesus' bodily resurrection, after the Lord Jesus' bodily
resurrection, The disciples do anything on the first day of
the week, and if so, what and when? Any answer to that? Ken
Saves Me. Ken Saves Me, okay. Yes, Ken Saves Me. What you have,
Ken? Good talking to you. Hello, Pastor. I'm just enjoying
your broadcast here on the internet. Good. Praise the Lord. Thank
you for calling us. to follow in spirit and truth,
for the Father seeks to worship Him. So I think that's a significant
point. Worship Him, that's right, first
and foremost. Thank you very much. Thank you, I appreciate that.
Okay, let's wave to him from Arkansas, where are you from?
Kansas City. Kansas City, thank you. The disciples,
after the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, not
under law, not under grace, What did the disciples do and when?
What happened? They locked themselves in the
upper room. All right. What day of the week was that?
Sunday. It was Sunday, the first day
of the week. And what do we know on that Sunday? Was it morning
service or evening service? Answer that. Morning service. Probably before morning service.
Was it 10? The morning came and the evening.
All right. It was the evening service, wasn't
it? Thomas was absent. That was one Sunday evening meeting
in the upper room. What about the second evening,
second Sunday night? What happened there? Thomas was
there. Thomas was there. Was he there?
He was called Darling Thomas. Was Thomas there the first Sunday
evening? No, he was not. He missed it. Did you ever hear of something
called Resurrection Sunday? That's what we call Easter, but
some Christians call it Resurrection Sunday. Yes. When did the Lord
Jesus rise from the dead? Any hands on that? Early Sunday
morning. Sunday morning. And that's the
first day of the week he rose from the dead. Pastor Dan? Well, in a certain sense, every
Sunday should be, every first day of the week should be a resurrection
Sunday. We should be commemorating and reflecting on the resurrection
of the Lord Jesus Christ. Not just one particular, not
just the first Sunday, the first full moon after the equinox,
but every Sunday. Every Sunday. Anna? We were discussing between ourselves,
because of the Jews' time frame, and the Lord died before the
new day began, it was likely that, it was actually, it could
have been Saturday night, even, when the Jewish first day of
the week began, that the Lord could have resurrected. Alright,
fine, and then? First thing in the morning, on
a Sunday morning, that would be very early, like three o'clock. Well, the Linda's and Pashtun.
But he had, they had to die before the Sabbath started in the evening.
The Pashtun. The overall point, I think, is
that our calendars, we start our tomorrows, we'll start at
midnight. We start at midnight and we start
the next day. already be the next day, right
now. When did the Jews begin the next day? I think that's
the overall... 6 p.m. 6 p.m. was the next day. Yes. They have to be home for their
certain holidays. They have to be home before sundown.
All right. When did the Jewish day begin? Any hands on that? When did the
Jewish Old Testament day begin? After that? Day as opposed to night? Day? I would say that's 6 o'clock
or around there where sunset or 6 o'clock is when the next
day begins. All right. So that the old day
ended 6 p.m. and one went out to 6 p.m. the
new day. That was a new day. When does
our day end and when does our day begin? Midnight. Midnight,
all right. Anna? Well, see, and it says
in Genesis that the evening and the morning were the first day.
The evening and the morning were the second day. And so forth
and so on. But we have a strange thing where
it's night and then it's day and then it's night. And that's
a day. And I was like, huh? But is that night and day the
same thing? In other words, our day starts at 12 midnight when
it's dark outside, at least in most places. And then it goes,
and then the sun comes up, and then the sun goes down, and it's
dark again. So we have... So our evening
is divided, which is strange. You have a good point. So I was
going to say, a lot happens while we're sleeping. The day changes.
Yes, the day changes. Unless we happen to be awake.
That's right. So, the collections on the first
day of the week. What did God create in the Old
Testament on the first day of creation? Any hands on that?
That there be light. That there be light. Created
the light, and there was light. Alright, so that's first upon
the first day of the week. Who is to take... The heaven and the earth. God
created the heaven and the earth. That's right. Now, what's to
be done on the first day of the week here at verse number 1?
How many people are in action here? How many people should
be in action on the first day of the week according to 1 Corinthians?
Any hands on that? 10? Everyone. 11. Let every one
of you. Now, who's the you referring
to there? Any hands on that? Who's the
you referring to? born-again Christians? These
were born-again genuine Christians in Colossi. In my application,
we can apply that to our day-to-day. Not just one or two. What was
everyone supposed to be doing according to Paul's suggestion
and really sort of a command? Any hands on that? What was it
supposed to do? What does it mean? What did they
say it was supposed to do? 1 Corinthians 16 In verse 2, what is everyone supposed to
do? Every genuine Christian. The Corinth of application here. Tammy? Hands on here. Tammy? They're supposed to take
their money, I suppose, and put it in a place together. What does lay in store mean?
Lay it aside. Lay it aside. And in store would
be? What? Safe place. What else? Something that is stored means
what? Enhancement. Kept for later. Kept safe. Set aside. Keep it
somewhere. Storage place. That's what I'm
saying. You're in a drawer in a certain place in your home.
Land store. Could be a box. Land store. How
was the procedure to be laid aside? What sort of thing was... How much are you supposed to
lay aside in verse number 2? Or as God has prospered him.
What do you think that might mean? As God has prospered you. Anna? Well, if you're able to
give a lot, then you can give a lot. And if you're only able
to give a little bit, then you can just give a little bit. Is there any command in the New
Testament to tithe? Not a single leaf of it. How
about the Old Testament? Is there any command in the Old
Testament to tithe? What does tithe mean? He was a 10th of
his poor. A nocturnal millionaire. In the New Testament, he was
a genuine Christian. How much did he lay aside? I
bet you that. He kind of prospered so much
that he was able to lay aside about 90% of his income. Yes,
in fact, it was 99%. He just had, you're right, 10%
he kept and 90% I think he kept. That's right, Adam? That's what they say. When was
this? Was there no income tax? Oh,
there's always been, in many, many decades. How did he put
that much aside if the income tax was eating up? Well, I suppose
whatever he had left, he gave 90% of that to the Lord and kept
the 10% after taxes. Yeah, they cut up the government
first. Yvonne? You take it out first. You don't give God the leftovers.
That's possible, too. I don't know exactly the details
of Latorneau, but he was a well-to-do man, and the Lord took care of
him. It could be tax deductible, too. So... I read that years ago, and I
don't know what the details... Well, about Lattorno, giving
90% to the Lord, keeping 10% for himself, because he's got
many, many things that he doesn't need, and so that's what he did.
He was a tractor seller, but Lattorno tractor type of thing
and mobile things. Yes, Linda. I remember one of
the Testaments or one of the Gospels or something. This man
comes up to Jesus, what do I do for everlasting life? Go to heaven. And Jesus told him, this is everything
you have. Not even to keep a percentage. Yes, that was a test. What about
Anna? the Lord had listed certain commandments
and the guy said, oh, I've kept all of those. And then the Lord
said, yeah, that'll allow us one thing. And then he said,
told him to go sell everything that he had. And the young man
went away very soulful because he was rich. And you see, it
wasn't that he didn't do the selling, it was that See, the
commands I wrote, these are stinless. Or, thou shalt worship the Lord
only. Like, the Lord, the God is one
Lord. Him only shalt thou worship.
And thou shalt have no other gods before me. This young man was
worshiping him as well. And it didn't say, and thou shalt
not covet him. Our Father, we thank Thee that
we could talk about the things of heaven, the things of Corinthians,
this local church of genuine believers that trusted the Lord
Jesus genuinely as their Savior. Apply it to us. Help us to do
what He said. Be steadfast, be unmovable, abounding
in Thy work, the scriptural work. that we rejoice in Thee, Thou
would bless us in that. Help us with the collection,
help us with what the God has prospered us in. Different ones
prosper differently. God has directed us in how we
give it to the believers, the Christian believers in all of
Thy work and ministry. We thank Thee for those that
are given to our local church and our missionaries around the
world. We praise and thank Thee for
them that they've done this. Go take care of us now, Lord.
Bring us back on the Lord's Day. And may our Savior be glorified
in all that we do and say. And may those that are listening
to us, if they're lost, if they're bound for hell, if they never
genuinely trusted the Savior and Him alone, not works, not
baptism, not church membership, may they trust Him and be genuinely
saved according to that Word. In Jesus' name we ask it. Amen.
