We've got another wonderful Sunday school study this morning. I don't know about you, but I've been enjoying women in the Bible studies. They've been great. Probably would never put them all together unless I went through these studies. We usually read through the scriptures a little faster and there's a lot sometimes and it's amazing that what you can find out or compare ourselves of what people in the Bible went through. They were human like you and I. try to serve God the best of their abilities and at the same time sometimes they miss the mark. We do too. I do too. We got another wonderful study. Last week it was God's feminine or I think it was Christ's feminine disciples that we went through and that was an exciting also study that we had. This morning, we got the outspoken woman, one woman, singular. And just the title of it, right ahead, it kind of freaked my mind. I said, I wonder who that was. Well, she's not named in the scriptures. She just said that she was a woman. And we're going to go and read the text in a little bit. But first we're going to, as a part of the introduction, we're going to read about the setting. That way you'll get a better photo because it's only two scriptures. The text is only two scriptures and it'll be in Luke chapter 11, verse 27 to 28. You're welcome to turn there because we're going to read it in a little bit. Meanwhile, I'll kind of set the setting for this introduction. I'm going to read this. During his earthly ministry, Jesus ministered to and was ministered to by many different women. Being ministered means serving. In other words, the women served Jesus in everything that was needed in the ministry. And of course, Jesus always served, ministered to us and served us to our needs. He was their Savior. Jesus Christ was their Teacher, their Healer, their Leader, their Shepherd, their Defender, their Friend. And Jesus was their Companion and Lord. He was known to them, women in the Bible, and by them as much as by any of his disciples. They were given a special place of honor because they were given a place among his followers and in his church. It's an opening statement. As introduction to this, turn to chapter eight of Luke. In the first verse, what was common for our Lord, and we remembered this from earlier in the book of Luke, where our Lord Jesus Christ was always about His Father's business. And you remember when he answered back to his earthly mother, or his mother Mary and earthly father Joseph, when they were looking for him, he said, and he said unto them, how is it that ye sought me? Wist ye not that I must be about my father's business? So he was always about his father's business. In this particular entrance here, chapter 8, verse 1, it said, It came to pass afterwards that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, and certain women which that was a study of last week, and it mentions Mary Magdalene, it mentions Joanna and Susanna, and these were certain women, and many others, the scripture says, were with them there. What I'm trying to get to is that our Lord Jesus Christ was always moving on from city to city, city to villages. And he had a company with him most of the time, the disciples. And I didn't realize that there was also women among them when they went places. They don't seem to be mentioned many times. But here we see that they were. And of course, I kind of wanted to introduce that. because our Lord was preaching and of course teaching throughout the scripture. The red letters of Jesus usually tells me that he was talking to the crowd that was there. You'll see it again in the ninth chapter. In the ninth chapter, he also calls the 12 disciples and sends them out, gives them power and authority over the devils and to cure diseases. They didn't have the written word, so they did miracles with the power of our Lord. Again, in chapter 10 of the book of Luke, we see that he appoints the 70 and send them out two by two. And then we see where they are called back. They come back all excited because they had raised, they had rebuked devils and And a lot of miracles they were committing, they were doing, but Jesus slightly, maybe not rebuked them, but he tells them, hey, I saw Satan cast down out of heaven. And he said, but rejoice not in what you've done, but rejoice that your name is written in heaven. I'll paraphrase it. What I'm getting to is that He was preaching there also. And you can see it all through chapter 10. It's full with the red letters of Jesus. And again, chapter 10 ends Jesus visiting Martha and Mary. And at the end of the chapter, we see that Jesus kind of corrects Martha again. I mean, I did a teaching on this a while back, Martha and Mary, and by the grace of God, it came out good, thank the Lord. I enjoyed it and learned from it. And I, at this time, I'll say, thank you all for your attention. I am a learner, just like you, I'm learning. And I'm just trying to do the Lord's work in my capacity. capacity. And after being here a few years, I should know more. I'm a slow learner, but here I am. Anyway, the Lord kind of slightly rebuked Martha. Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled over many things. But one thing is needful, and Mary chose that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. And you know the story. But that's an interesting Tells us what's more important than anything. The Lord Jesus Christ and His Word. And then we come to chapter 11. And again, we see our Lord teaching. The disciples in the first part ask Him to teach them to pray. And the Lord's Prayer, we're all familiar with that. We're not going to quote that or try to read it. We're just saying part of that chapter 11. In the middle of it, I think he Here is the persistent prayer. The neighbor comes over and asks for bread in the middle of the night. And his neighbor won't give it to him. You know the story. But persistent prayer, according to the teachings, works. Our Lord will answer our prayers. Sometimes it'll be later. not on, but it'll be in his time. Amen. Like the birth of, uh, uh, was it Isaac, Isaac, I think, uh, Abraham's son, the first one. Okay. And, um, And the baby was born right in the Lord's time, just as he said. Then it ends casting somebody's demons. And then here's our text for today. That was just kind of setting the stage for this text. Luke 11, verse 27, And it came to pass, As he spoke these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the peps which thou hast sought. But he said, Yea, but our Lord Jesus Christ says, Yea, rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God and keep it. very interested in. She is not name by name, but the statement that she made, like many others that would always try to interrupt our Lord while He was preaching. Some were the Pharisees, others were a lawyer that wanted to ask who was his neighbor. Another rich ruler wanted to know how to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. You name it, but some were sincere, others were where the Pharisees were always trying to tempt them and also trying to trick them. But our Lord always had an answer for them, the right answer. In this situation also, we see our Lord Here's this lady, she was not all that much off, but that's not what the Lord wanted really to hear. And yet he said, yea rather, bless our day that hear the word of God and keep it. And the study here, He said, in our text we find the mention of an outspoken woman. She was motivated to give forth commendation and praise at the hearing of Christ's words and doctrine. But remember that she was there hearing all that preaching that our Lord was teaching. And they said she was motivated to give commendation and praise at the hearing of Christ's words and doctrine. But while her commendation and praise was acceptable, no doubt, to the ears and minds of many, herself included, Christ revealed that it was misplaced and lacking in vital truth. She saw and heard something admirable in Christ, but it remained questionable whether or not she had received the truth of Christ as the living word of God. Unlike the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well, her commendation was not of Christ as Savior and Lord, And Lord, in the Bible, the Samaritan woman met our Lord. And after he learned that he was Christ and Savior, the Lord, he said, come. In John chapter 4, verse 29, we'll see. If you want to turn there, you're welcome. John chapter 4, 29. After she met the Lord, verse 29, she says, whoops, over here. She says, come see a man which told me all things that ever I did. Is not this the Christ? And then we'll see on 439, we'll see that in the same chapter, verse 39, we'll see that And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman who testified, he told me all that ever I did. So we see comparing the Samaritan women with the saying of the outspoken women. He said, what about The study says, what about what we have to say of Christ talking to us? Does it commend Him to others for eternal salvation? Or does it merely commend something admirable from the fleshly standpoint? And it kind of gave me a thought about our testimony. Each one has a testimony. how we came to Christ or where He found us. And at the same time, most of the time I just tell people that I'm saved. I kind of went to a few churches in the old days, when I first started hearing about Jesus Christ, that everybody got up here, they call it testimony, and those churches must be Pentecostals. But they say how bad they've been, you know, how low life they've been, how much they drank, how many times they fell. And I never even want to, maybe it's not very admirable to say it's under, it's all water under the bridge, as Brother McDonough would say. But I'll say what the Lord's been doing in my life. better yet then that the Lord is my Savior and I'm a sinner that covers everything. Praise the Lord. Anyway, this is what the comparison of the outspoken woman and the Samaritan woman. It says, the outspoken woman who spoke out loudly so as to be heard by all that were present listening to and observing Jesus said, blessed is the womb that bare thee and the peps which thou hast sucked. She was commenting or praising Jesus' mother and in doing so, commanding or praising Jesus indirectly. She was stating that Jesus' mother had birthed and raised a wonderful, gracious son, an Israelite indeed, who was a great benefit to Israel and worthy of honor. No doubt she meant to heap praise on Jesus this way. Yet there was some defect or error in her thoughts and actions, At this time, otherwise, Jesus would not have pointed out the error with his. Yea, rather, the Lord said. She was saying for all to hear, this is the way I see it, this is the way others ought to see it. Jesus was saying, you miss the vital truth which you need yourself, as well as that which all others need. It meant that. If we compare the words of this woman who spoke out loudly and publicly at this time during Jesus' ministry with the words sent from God about Jesus' mother, we notice some distinct differences. Amen. And we'll see, turn to Luke chapter 1. We'll look at a couple of scriptures there. I thought to myself, I don't know if it falls in place or not, but this lady was kind of commending Mary. And you know, it only takes something like this for somebody to start a new religion. And it has been before. The Catholic Church really has gotten into the studies. I do have the book of all the I think it's something Miller book of all the cults. And I really haven't had time to study them, but I know briefly about the Catholic religion. And I think they talk more about Mary than they do about Jesus. They make excuses that the idols gives them fate, you know, to think about God. Totally missing the mark, I think. And pray the Lord for the Lord's enlightenment and light in our lives that we have, that He has, by His grace, has allowed us to see what is truth in the Word of God. That never should have happened in the, the Book of God doesn't say anything about that. And here we see In Luke chapter 1, verse 42, we see Elizabeth talking to Mary. As she visited him, Elizabeth was of expectation with baby, John the Baptist. And we see here, he said, and she, Elizabeth spoke, verse 42, and she spake out with a loud voice and said, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. It said, and Juan says this to me, that the mother of my Lord shall come to me. So Elizabeth there, she blesses Mary, but because she, the angel had already told Mary, bless it or die on my women. You have had favor with God. God has chosen you as the vessel by which our Lord should be born. And blessed, of course, are all that the Lord have called and chosen. We are blessed. But Elizabeth here said, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, giving honor to God. Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, said, Blessed is the fruit of thy womb. Both Mary and Elizabeth recognized that Jesus was the Redeemer and Savior of Israel, of God, and that He above all was both blessed and the blessing. The outspoken woman was able to recognize that it is a blessing to have such godly, gracious, and spiritual son as Jesus was, but we cannot tell by her words that she recognized Him as the Son of God and her own personal Savior as Mary and Elizabeth did. We're not told that the woman is recorded as having spoken out publicly, was motivated by anything spiritual. Another example, another example is in Luke chapter 2 verse 38. And we see Luke chapter 2 verse 38, if you want to turn there. And this starts from 36. And we'll see that. And there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phaneoel of the tribe of Assur. She was of great age and had lived with a husband seven years. from her virginity, and she was a widow of about four score and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayer night and day. And she coming in, in that instance, gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of Him to all them that look for redemption in Jerusalem. And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own city of Nazareth. Let me see. Okay. Okay, it says here, verse 38, he said, and she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord and spake of Him to all them that look for redemption in Jerusalem. So she had a different outlook than the outspoken women in the study. This outspoken woman spoke of natural things and commented Jesus in a natural way. She was in effect saying no more than that any mother should be proud to have such a son. What a thing to say of the Christ of God and Savior of mankind. Much the same is said of many women's sons who have performed well in school, achieved athletic success, served in the military, received promotion at work, and show due honor and care for their parents. How unworthy of him who made the stars and calls them all by name and humbled himself to be found in fashion as a man and bore the shame, sorrow, and death of the cross and gave his life a ransom for many. Amen. Jesus is commanded in a natural way by false Christianity of this world. He is prayed as a good example, a good teacher, a guide, and a confident. His teachings are turned into methods of achieving worldly stature, success, satisfaction, rather than being regarded as the very words of life, which raise dead sinners out of darkness into spiritual life and light, which brings the most wretched and vile into fellowship and eternal communion with the holy and righteous God of all. Amen. What a contrast. I believe there are cults. I think it's the Middle Eastern faith that, I forget the name of the, the scripture they read, but they think of Jesus that he was a good man, a good Christian man, or a good person, godly person. And he said, Jesus is commanded in a natural way by false Christianity in this world. He said, in a natural way by false Christianity of this world. He is praised as a good example, a good teacher, guide, a confident. His teachings are turned into methods. Okay, I read that. How low a regard of him who cometh from above and is above all. Yea, his mother was blessed indeed, but not for merely having an admirable, commendable, brave, wise, and godly son, but because God's everlasting mercy and much more abounding grace provided through the seed of the woman, the redeemer and deliverer of fallen men, boys, girls, women, men, women, boys, and girls. And point number two is the Savior respond to the outspoken woman. The words of Jesus were at the same time a rebuke and a revelation. But he said, yea, rather bless it or day that hear the word of God and keep it. Amen. He did not let the words of the outspoken woman stand as he did those of the Canaanite woman. Turn to Luke chapter eight again, verse 19 and 21. We see here in chapter 18 also, I told you that there was always interruption when the Lord was preaching, or somebody wanted to stop Him on His track. But in these situations, Then came it to him, verse 19, his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press. And it was told him by certain which said, thy mother and thy brethren stand without desiring to see thee. And he answered and said unto them, my mother and my brethren are this which hear the word of God and do it. And I thought that scripture complimented what the Lord Jesus Christ said here in this other scripture. And what did this certain person want to do? Just, Lord, stop teaching. Stop preaching because your mom's here. And your brother, I'm sure God, Jesus loved Mary and Joseph. But I think Jesus is the one that says, seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and everything else will fall in place or be added unto you. Amen. He said, and then we got another scripture here. He said, he did not let the words of the outspoken woman stand as he did those of the Canaanite woman who followed him after him and his disciple crying after them, beseeching his mercy. A very interesting scripture also, Matthew chapter 15. We still got time. Matthew chapter 15 and verse 21 to 28. This is interesting. Then Jesus went hence and departed into the coast of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coast and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David. My daughter is grieffully vexed with a devil, but he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away, for she cried after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not me to take the children's bread and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord, yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's table." And then verse 28, Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy fate, be it unto thee even as thou will. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. Interesting story. A persistent lady, eventually she was testifying that she believed in the Lord for sure. He did not let the words of the outspoken women go uncorrected as he did those of the children in the temple who cried, Hosanna to the son of David. Though the children's crying out in praise of him caused The chief priest inscribes to be sore, disappointed. And in chapter 21, I guess we could read that also. Chapter 21, verse 15 of Matthew, the book of Matthew, and we see Verse 15, it says, And when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful thing that he did, and the children crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, they were sore displeased. They didn't like that. and said unto him, Here is thou what this say? And Jesus said unto them, Yes, have ye never read out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise? And he left them, and went out to the city into Bethany, and he lodged there." A couple of instances when we see our Lord Jesus Christ in turn, usually with scriptures. And at the same time, he talked as one having authority, the scripture says. He didn't color code it, anything. He didn't hold back no punches. He just told them what the word of God said. And of course, as it continues here, in this instance, he offered a soap A soft yet solemn rebuke, he showed that this woman had missed the mark of his teachings, which was to turn men to God and to convert them to God's will. She was impressed, excited, enthusiastic, and happy, but in a fleshly way. Her impressions, excitement, enthusiasm, and happiness were not the work of the Spirit of God. She was filled with emotion, but it was coupled with pride. She had fleshly confidence enough to speak out loudly, as she did, but had she been filled by and thus directed by the Holy Spirit, Christ would have had no reason to correct her. The world's imitation of Christianity is content to have something that is morally admirable. Whether or not they possess the reality of life in Christ, they are content to bless that which is commendable from man's point of view. Biblical Holy Spirit produced Christianity consists of this, hearing the word of God and keeping it. The Holy Spirit opens the heart to hear the word of God and have faith to believe. And the first commandment or portion of God's words that a believer keeps is turning from his or her ways and receiving God's Son, Jesus Christ. I've got a few scriptures. They're all in the Gospel of John. John chapter six, verse 29. We'll be coming to a close pretty soon. Chapter six, verse 29, the Bible says, Jesus answered and said unto them, this is the work of God, that ye may believe on him whom he has sent. John chapter five, verse 24. The Bible says, for as the father It says, verse 24, chapter 5 says, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my words, and believeth on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation by his past, from dead unto life. John chapter 6, verse 45. It is written in the prophets, and they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that has heard and had learned of the father cometh unto me. Philippians chapter one, verse six. Philippians chapter 1, verse 6. It says, being confident of this very thing, that he which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Scriptures speak for themselves. It is the Word of God. As God gives life and breath to all men, yet all men breathe in order to live. So too God gives living faith to believe on Christ and believers believe and live and are saved by God's grace through faith and are the product of God's word working in them. Thus the gospel message which is the word of God is Mark chapter Mark chapter 1, the beginning of the Gospel of Mark, chapter 1 verse 15 says, Jesus saying, and saying, the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent ye and believe the gospel. I had a little commentary. We're almost done. We'll be done with this. Usually I should stop by 1040. It's a commentary from John Gill. Sometimes I see commentaries. Matthew Henry and John Gill are kind of my favorite. You know, I kind of sometimes see what they both have to say. And then, of course, I compare it with the Word of God. John Gill, on the scriptures of where it says, chapter 8, verse 1, it says that Jesus went preaching and showing the glad tidings of the Kingdom of God. Last week, I kind of made a little comment on it, that it said He went about preaching the Gospel. Right now, we just read, it said, the time is fulfilled. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent ye and believe the Gospel. came preaching repentance, but also the glad tidings, guess what the glad tidings are? John Gill says, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the Kingdom of God, The glad tidings is the good news, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the good news of the gospel dispensation, which was now taking place and had been long expected. That's what he was preaching. He said he was preaching or publishing the doctrines and mysteries of it, such as the free and full remission of sins for his own people. He came to preach the good tidings of justification by his righteousness, acceptance in him, the beloved son of God, and complete salvation by him as the savior of his people. Not only that, but he also, he said, that which nothing could be more welcome news or better tidings. pointing out the ordinances of that dispensation and showing who were the proper subjects of them, and directing and encouraging such to submit to them, as also It's also signifying what the kingdom of grace lies in, not in meats and drinks or any outward things, but in inward holiness, peace, joy, and what is meat for entrance into the kingdom of glory, namely, regenerating grace and what gives a right unto it even a better righteousness than that of the scribes and pharisees and which was no other than his own. So very interesting that kind of helps along and helps us lay teachers, layman teachers to kind of expound a little bit more on things. So with that we'll break for for the time. May the Lord have his blessings on his work this morning. Thank you, Frank. Brother, good morning to you. How are you? Good to see you. How's your writing going? Oh, there she is. Yellow, yellow, yellow. I just got this. I just got this. You got them good? Yeah. See, we got the men over here. Yeah, you did.
