When the Remonstrants (Arminians) composed their confession in opposition to the reformed teachings of the Belgic Confession, the Heideberg Catechism, and other like documents, they began by denying the doctrine of unconditional election. Modern Arminians often deny that election (especially election unto salvation) as a valid teaching of the Scriptures.
