that had to be free we just celebrated
Independence Day and we celebrate that as a nation and again some
think we're not free but go somewhere where they're really not free
and you'll find out you are free right we couldn't do this in
many countries and you couldn't you know the we don't have a
president protest or a king protest. If you had a king, you couldn't
have the protest. Just a thought, right? Just something
to think about there. And, you know, we're so caught
up in our rights and what we don't have as rights, we forget
all the liberty we do have, right? I mean, you know, and it's the
same with Christianity. People look at the Bible and
go, you know, well, I can't do this, this, and this if I'm a
Christian, but why would you want to? I mean, you know, it's,
it's like we try to figure out all we can get away with instead
of just saying, you know what? I want to fall in love with the
Lord and, and please him. And I'll say this, I've been
saved since 1996. It's pretty good life. I've had every downfall
I've had has not been the Lord has been me. And I'll say this
that, you know, again. I've tried to tell our kids,
don't worry about being the pastor's kids. You love the Lord. If you'll
love the Lord and live for him, the other take care of itself.
And same thing with you guys sometimes say, well, you know,
uh, the church, this and the church that, well, if you live
for God, you won't have any trouble with the church. Amen. But see, we want to straddle
that line, right? We want to get as far out as
we can and still be pleasing to the Lord. Well, I don't. Amen. I really don't. Listen, I have
times just like you do. My flesh rears its ugly head
and says, hey, you ought to be doing this. And you got to beat
that thing down. I'm saying this. God's been real
good to me. And I appreciate the good song. And it's all because
of Calvary, like she sang about this morning. Luke chapter five
today, Luke chapter five, we want to continue, uh, as we've
been, uh, preaching through Luke five, um, and talking about our,
our theme verse, uh, going deeper with God and, uh, Luke chapter
five, verse four. says now when he had left speaking
he said unto Simon and notice what he said we looked this couple
weeks ago launch out into the deep and let down your nets for
a drop and Simon answered answering said unto him master we have
toiled all the night so I know this the word toil means and
I mentioned this to labor to exhaustion so here they were
they've labored all night throwing the net out pulling it back in.
This is a good lesson for soul winners, amen? Throwing the net
out, pulling it back in. Throwing the net out, pulling
it back in. Brother Shane, that's what they did all night. They
caught nothing. And they came in, they were tired,
they were beat down, right? Like many of us are, let's be
honest. Being a Christian is great, but it's not always easy.
Serving God is great, but it's not always easy, right? Being
faithful is wonderful, but it's not always easy. So they toiled
all the night. And the Bible said they'd taken
nothing. Then notice this in verse five. Uh, he said, nevertheless,
there's the changing point. Nevertheless, at my feelings,
I will let down the net. It's not what he said. He said
at that word. See the Bible said faith cometh by hearing and hearing
by the word of God. Now we automatically equate that
to salvation. But may I say this every element
of faith that you have is related to the word of God. You say well
how do you get that preacher? Because you cannot have faith
in what God says he'll do if it's not his word. Right, so
my faith has to be centered around God's word. Not my feelings,
not what I think. But here, Peter said, listen,
I don't feel like I should go out. I don't think I should go
out. My emotions, everything in me is telling me I should
not do this at all. Yet, nevertheless, right, and
that word nevertheless is the turning point. That means in
spite of. In spite of what I think and
feel, I'm still gonna do it. And so he said, nevertheless
said, thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this
done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes and their net break.
And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other
ship, and that they should come and help them. And they came
and filled both the ships so that they began to sink. So again,
let's focus for a few minutes on these three verses, especially
six and seven. So the Lord told Peter, I want
you to get in your boat, the one you just came out of, I want
you to get back in. And he's already told him to
launch out a little bit, and he began to teach. Now he's saying,
I want you to launch out deeper. Listen, the teaching on the initial
push out was for others, but now the deeper was for him. Right? See if you want to, you're going
to have to go deeper with God than just coming to church to
really understand Him and to know He's your Savior and to
feel Him and to have a relationship with Him. To have the fellowship
that you desire, you say you desire, you're going to have
to go out deeper than you've ever gone before. What used to
be won't last. Where you were at last year is
not good enough. Where you were at last week is
not good enough. You and I have to constantly be in fellowship
with God and go deeper. So Simon answered him, said,
Master, we've toiled all the night. There it is. A lot of
times, Sunday morning, I come in here, I'm tired. You guys
are tired. Tuesdays, going out, these men
are tired. Saturday mornings, when we go out knocking on doors,
tired. Bus workers are tired. We're all tired, right? We get
so caught up in our own, I'm so tired. People don't understand
how tired I am. They do, everybody's tired. There's
very few people that are sitting in a massage chair every day
of their life and just say, hey, I'm just gonna get massaged till
I come to church on Sunday. That's not life, is it? Wednesday
night, brother Jimmy, people are tired. But listen, when you
don't come Wednesday night, here's what happens. You miss a blessing.
You miss a time to be around God's people. When you don't
come back on Sunday night, well, I got too much to do on Sunday
evening. Well, everybody's got too much to do. But again, you're
missing an opportunity to get fed and to be encouraged by the
things of God. So Simon had toiled, he had labored
to exhaustion. He said, listen, we've toiled
all the night, we've taken nothing. Why? Because they did it in their
own power. And I'm convinced of this, Brother
Matt, we're doing a lot of activities as Christians. Bus ministry is wonderful, but
if you're not doing it in God's power, you're not getting all
you can. Knocking on doors is great, handing out tracts is
great, but if it's just mechanical to you, right? If it's just going
through the motions because that's what we're supposed to do. Many
of you come in here and sit, and it means nothing to you. I mean, we just sang all those
songs about the Lord Jesus, and you're just going through the
motions. It ought to mean something to
us. I know we're tired. I know we've toiled. I know everybody's
worked hard this week. But may I say this? Jesus is
on the boat. I mean, nobody else had Jesus
on their boat. They had worked and they had
labor, but Peter had Jesus on the boat. May I say this? You
and I today, we ought to come here in this place expecting
Jesus to do something in our midst. But preacher, we're tired. Yeah, but so were they. They
toiled. They labored. They did all night
long, yet they caught nothing. So Peter said, listen, we've
done this. But he said, nevertheless, at thy word, I'll let down the
net. And when they'd done this, there it is. So faith is really
an abstract term until it's tested. If I asked every one of us in
here today, do you have faith? You say, oh, yeah, I have faith.
Okay. You can say you have faith, but
until it's tested, you don't know. Right. I'll give you an
example. He's illustration of the guy
going in the wheelbarrow. Here's another one. How many of you
would jump out of an airplane? I would not. You say, well, it's
perfectly safe. Somebody packed your chute. Well,
here's, here's the thing. In order to jump out of an airplane
and feel comfortable doing it, you have to have faith that whoever
packed your chute didn't do what they were doing. And that when
you pulled the rip cord, it was going to come out. And I just
don't have that much faith in people. Cause if you're wrong,
guess what happens? Pancake. Am I right? You can say, yeah,
I'd jump out of an airplane. Let me ask you this. How many
of you have ever jumped out of an airplane? Raise your hand,
please. Smart. We've got one. He's a military
guy. He's like, I did it, right? How
many of you would do it? Why hadn't you done it? I'm not going to. As long as
that plane's flying, I'm good with staying in it. Right? Everybody's
like, I'd love to jump out of it. Why don't you? What's the
cost? Well, maybe, but some like, we
say we do it. I will not. Unless somebody throws
me out. Right. But, but that's, that's
my point. Brother Jimmy, we can talk about
what we would do, but until our faith is tested, we don't really
know if we have faith. Right? And so what I mean is
anyone can claim to have faith but it is the moving forward
that proves we have faith. And so this is the true test
of our faith, not talking about it, but to truly trust is to
do what the Lord asks us to do. Peter didn't know if it's going
to work or not. I mean, let's be honest. They had already done
it. They're experienced fishermen. They knew how to fish. It wouldn't
be like me and you. I mean, maybe some of you are
experienced fishermen and I'm not. If I said, Lord, me and
brother Johnny and brother Shane and brother Noah and brother
Matt, we've been out there all night fishing. We didn't catch anything.
Well, are y'all experts? No, it's our first time. Right? That wasn't them. Jesus said, here's what we're
going to do, Peter. We're going back out where you just came from. Makes
no sense, does it? So, so Jesus tells Peter to launch
out and Peter has recollected his previous night's activities
and said, we've worked all night. We've toiled all night, but notice
the word nevertheless, it means I'll do it anyway. In spite of,
that's what it means, in spite of all that I've just said, I'm
going to do it anyway. That's what faith is. I don't
feel it. I don't see it. It doesn't make
sense to me, but you said it Lord. So therefore I'll do it.
Right. And so notice the word, he'll
do it. But again, this shows, notice
this, this shows the intent, but not the action. He still
hadn't exercised faith. He said, nevertheless, that shows
his intent to have faith, but he's not launched out yet. Right? And I think a lot of Christians
are intellectually, their intent is nevertheless, but they never
launch out. See, you can sit in a church
pew all your life and never launch out. You can talk about how you've
trusted the Lord Jesus as your Savior and you trust Him with
every aspect of your life, but you really don't because you
won't take your hands off the wheel. You really don't because
you won't launch out deeper. You really don't because we fear
everything. I mean, let's be honest. We worry
about everything. We fear about everything, yet
we'll say, oh, I trust the Lord. But we don't. In verse six, we see faith in
action. Verse six says, and when they
had this done. Verse five is the intent of faith.
Verse six, the action of faith. And I'll give you just a couple
of things quickly that I see in this verse. First of all,
faith affects obedience. Faith affects your obedience.
You can't have obedience unless you really trust the Lord. Why
would you? Why would you obey this book
if you don't believe it? Why would you obey a being you've
never seen, a person you've never seen, if you do not trust he's
real and has what's best for you and your best interest at
heart? Why would you do that? You would
not. That's what cultish is, right?
That's what cult is, is when someone's going to hurt you,
but you follow them anyway. I'm not going to follow somebody
that's going to hurt me. I'm going to follow somebody that's
going to help me. Right. And so the Lord's not asking
him to launch out to hurt him. He's asking him to launch out
because he's going to help him. And so my, my, my degree of faith
affects my obedience. Uh, the Lord's orders were simple. Were they not? Notice what he
said. He said in verse four, he said unto Simon, launch out
into the deep. There's one command, let down
your nets for a draw. Two commands, two things. It
wasn't a laundry list of things, brother Sean. He didn't give
him a whole dissertation of all the things, you know, he should
do. He gave him two things, launch
out, let down your net. Well, may I say this, this book
is fairly simple. No, I can't understand it, preacher.
But there are things you can understand. Why don't you focus
on what you can understand and obey those things, and then God
will enlighten you to some other things. Stop letting the devil
beat you up about all that you don't know about the Bible, and
let the Holy Spirit of God speak to you about what you do know
about the Bible, and then the Holy Spirit of God may enlighten
you on some other aspects of the Bible, and exercise a measure
of faith. Extend your faith. But see, here's
the thing, the Lord's orders were simple. Launch out, let
down the net. Can I say this, church? Don't
overcomplicate it. I'll give you a prime example.
Four times, three times in the gospel, one time in the book
of Acts, he gives us the great commission. But here's the question. So I know this, he gives it to
the individual. People say, well, you know, the
church ought to be doing this, the church ought to be doing
that. He didn't tell us, Brother Bart, he did not tell the organization
of the church to be soul winners. He told the individual, go ye,
ye is singular, ye is pointing to you. Each individual is supposed
to be someone who cares about souls, correct? You say well
preacher that's fine but you just don't understand. Well that's
simple. Go ye in all the world preach
the gospel to who? Every creature. Everybody. Doesn't matter their color of
skin, doesn't matter what side of the tracks, doesn't matter
what their hair color is, doesn't matter their sexual orientation. Guess what? Homosexuals need
to hear the gospel too. Right? Well, I'll tell you what. I think
I'm just going to give to these. That's not what he said. But
see, we, we overcomplicate it. Well, I don't know the Romans
row. He didn't say to give him the Romans row. Well, I don't
know all what if they ask hard questions, take them back to
the cross. You don't have to answer every
Bible question they got. You just got to keep taking them
back to Jesus. We've overcomplicated this thing.
You say, well, I don't know. Well, give them a track. It's
got it on the back of the track. Invite them to church and say,
when you have a minute, would you read this? See, it's not the
complication of things. It's the fact that we don't obey
it. Amen. I mean, forsake not the assembling
of yourselves together. Simple. When you have church,
you ought to be there. When there's a church event or
an activity, unless you're providentially hindered, you should try to be
there. Right? So it's not the Lord's orders
were simple and then the laborer's obedience is simple. Should be
laborers. I'm sorry. I meant that's not
their fault. That's mine. I gave him the wrong thing. So
the Bible said this in verse six, it said when they had done
this or when they had this done, what, what God told him to do.
I'm getting deep, folks. Listen, hang with me. I know
we're getting in the theological weeds here, but hang with me
for just a minute. You see, our faith, it affects
our obedience. How much faith I have in God
affects if I'll do what he says for me to do. So the Lord gave
them simple orders, but the laborers' obedience is simple. When they
had this done, what? When they'd launched out and
let down the net. They didn't even have to know
where they're going. He was on the boat with them. They were
along for the ride. He says, Hey, Peter, launch out
in the deep. How far? Just go. I'll tell you when,
you know, this'll be good here, right here, right here. Drop
the anchor, throw the net out. There you go. Let's go back to
shore. Simple. Well, what exactly were the coordinates
of that? Was it the Dead Sea? Was it the
Red Sea? Why do you care? See, here's
the problem with a lot of Christianity. It's paralysis by analysis. You're trying to know every little
thing about every little thing. You won't even do the stuff he
tells you. They didn't eat. What kind of fish were they?
Who cares? What kind of net? What kind of boat did they have?
How many of it were there? Why does it even matter? You're
over-complicating the thing. Just do what God tells you to
do. Do the simple things, and then he may expound the other
things. So, though he didn't do it all,
I mean, again, he said, let down your nets, and Simon Peter let
down the net. You say, well, there it is. There
what is? Peter didn't do all that God,
but can I say this? We serve a compassionate, long-suffering
God. Aren't you glad God doesn't cut
you off every time you don't fully obey everything? Hey, can
I ask you this? Don't raise your hand, please.
Did you pray and read your Bible every single day? Did you spend
time with God every single day today? Well, no, but aren't you
glad He didn't just cut you off? Amen. I mean, if I didn't do
it every day, I'm not in full obedience. But aren't you glad
God didn't say, well, guess what you missed today? We're done,
pal. He's not Baptist. He's not like
us. Hey, cross the line, tearing
up friendship papers never again. Hallelujah. Peter's like, I'll
just let down this one that God said, okay, well, you know what?
Here's here's but what would have he let down both of them?
See, the degree of our faith determines the degree of our
obedience. He didn't have complete faith
in the Lord or to put down both nets, but he had enough to put
down one net. He had enough to launch out.
You can make fun of Peter all you want to, but let's be honest,
most of us would have never left the shore. We probably would
have never taken nets with us. We'd say, God, if you want us
to have some fish, throw it up in the boat because I don't want
to do anything else. So faith affects our obedience. Number
two, faith affects others. The Bible said so verse six what
Jesus told Peter to launch out. But the Bible said when they
had this done they enclosed a great multitude of fishes in their
net. Who that day. I'm not smart. They is plural. More than one. Right. More than one on that boat. Might
have been Peter and Jesus, but you'll see in a minute there's
some other guys coming around, right? So his faith influenced
others. Pete, listen, you want to talk
about an influencer? We live in a day where everybody
wants to be an influencer. Peter was an influencer. I mean, what
do you call it, Brother Junior? They'd worked all night, and
Peter said, come on, boys, we're going back out. Why? Because he said
to. OK, well, let's go. He's an influencer. His faith influence. Let me ask
you this. Does yours, does your faith influence others? Well,
preacher, you know, okay. See, they had enough confidence
in Peter to go out with him. They may not have heard what
Jesus told Peter, but Peter had enough influence on them to say,
guess what, guys? We're going back out. Why? Because
he said to. I just got a funny feeling in
my gut, amen, that what he says he's going to do. So we're just
going to go out and give it a shot. What do we got to lose? We caught
nothing. We can't take it to the fish market. We're already
at zero. You ever get there? I mean, when
you're at the bottom of your rope and you're holding on to
the bottom and you're like, what else do I gotta lose? Why don't
I just trust the Lord? Amen. That's okay. Well, you
shouldn't get to that point. Well, praise God, I've gotten
there. Amen. And I'm glad he doesn't forsake
you when you're at the bottom of the rope, holding on by the
end of the rope in one hand and that's about to slip and finally
you cry out and say, Jesus, save me. Well, that's what Peter did.
Peter was going down. Hey, the same one. And he didn't
call the disciples, and he didn't call his buddies, and he didn't
call anybody else. He said, Lord, save me. So this morning, his
faith influenced yours. You say, how can it, preacher?
Well, you could put the same effort that you put in complaining
about all the issues you have in life on your social media
and talk about how good God is on it. Amen. But then his faith
impacted others. Well, notice this, the Bible
said when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude
of fishes in their net break. Well, they got to see God's power.
Remember that story, that lame guy? Jesus is in this house and
they bring him up on the bed and his buddies climb up on the
roof and pull back the roof and let him down. Who had the faith? It wasn't him, it was his friends.
Aren't you glad? Praise God. Listen, you know
what? When revivals take place, everybody
doesn't have the measure of faith that it takes to have revival,
but somebody did. Aren't you glad the times you
got to get in on some things that God has done, and it wasn't
you doing the praying, and it wasn't you doing the fasting,
and it wasn't you doing the trusting? But all of a sudden somebody
trusted God and fasted and prayed and the Holy Ghost of God swept
through that place and you got saved or you got right with God.
Aren't you glad somebody else had a measure of faith that not
only influenced you but impacted you? Peter did. They might have been saying,
Peter, you're crazy. But in verse 10, look at this. The Bible said,
and so, we're going to go back down to verse 10. So was also,
these boys on the boat, James, and John, the sons of Zebedee. Notice this, which were partners
with Simon. Well, does anybody know who they
are? Disciples. Matter of fact, that
one, if you recall, is the one whom Jesus loved. Matter of fact, The one, you
have the book of the revelation of Jesus Christ, you know where
it came from? Him. Your faith impacts others. Daddies, can I say this? I'm
gonna get straight with you. Quit letting your children tell
you when you're going to church and get them up and take them
to church and let your faith impact them. Fellas, may I say
this? Your wife shouldn't have you
drag you to church. You ought to get up and be the daddy and
the husband and say, babe, we're going to church and we're going
back Sunday night and we're going back Wednesday night. We're going
to get involved because that's what we're supposed to do. Maybe
your faith will impact them. Young people, and by the way,
your faith can impact others. Well, I don't have any impact.
Sure you do. Sure you do. We all have people
that we influence and impact. Somebody's watching you. So our
faith affects others. And then thirdly, our faith affects
the outcome. The Bible said this in verse
seven, and they beckoned unto their partners, which were in
the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they
came and filled both the ships. So they began to sing. Well,
understand this, this, this, this is what I'm saying. Hang
with me. Last point. Don't put your stuff up. God doesn't ask us to have faith
just to say have faith. Faith is attached to an outcome. It just is. When you got saved,
you had a measure of faith and the outcome was you trusted Christ
as your Savior. There's been things you've prayed
about in your life. Maybe it's a power bill. Maybe
it's a health issue. Maybe it's something. And you've
had faith, and the faith results in an outcome. This is not some
mystical idea that is just floating around saying, oh, I got faith.
No, it's to trust the Lord in whatever situation. Listen, you
may have a physical ailment, and you say, I'm trusting God,
hey, to heal me. OK. But here's the thing, what
if he heals you in a way you don't think you're going to be
healed? Right? What if you're like Paul and
you ask the Lord to remove the thorn from the flesh three times,
but he says, no, can you be like Paul and say, okay, well, I'll
just glory my infirmity. That's faith. Faith is not giving
up on God when He doesn't answer your prayer the way you think
He ought to answer it. See, He's the one who's sovereign, not
you. He's the one who's God, not you. He's the one who's all-knowing,
not you. So my faith is more than God
I'm asking you for this because it benefits me and so therefore
if you don't answer it I'm not going to have faith anymore.
My faith is in God knows more than I do and I can trust his
word no matter what the outcome is. Well what if what if what
if Jesus told Peter said now launch out. Now what he said
was launch out into the deep for what a drop which is a haul
of fish. But what if he said launch out
in the deep because I've got a fish in there one fish that's
a special fish. Right. What he had done the same
thing because I think I remember there was a situation where there
was one fish. But inside that fish's mouth,
yeah, was a piece of money. Which is more valuable, the draught
or the fish with a piece of money? Well, it depends on what you're
doing. In this situation, the draught
was important because they need a haul of fish, right? In that
situation, they had some taxes to pay and Jesus said, well,
here it is. And he proved he had provided. Well, what about,
what's he trying to show them? Well, not too far along the road,
he's getting ready to tell them, he said, listen, y'all go out
two by two, don't take anything with you. How about that? Where's your nest egg at? Where's
your 401k? He said, don't take two articles
of clothing. I'll just, we'll take care of
it. How we doing? Bro, we won't even tie unless
we got, you know, 10 times our income in the bank. Right? We won't even give demissions
unless we know, you know, the car payment is going to be paid
for the next 12 years. Whatever happens, just say, God,
whatever you tell me to do, I'll do and I'll trust you for the
rest of it. See, because here's what we do, brother Sean, we
get ourselves in a mess because of our flesh and we can't trust
God like God wants us to. So faith affects outcome. Listen,
you want to have no outcome? Go knock on some doors and just
hand out tracts. Great, you're handing out seed.
But do you plant seed not expecting it to grow? No, I mean, if you
have a garden, you say, well, I'm going to get this seed and
I'm going to throw it out there, but I don't guess anything's going to grow.
I don't expect to grow. I ain't going to water it and I ain't
going to fertilize it. Just to say I planted some seed,
I'm a gardener. Well, you're a terrible gardener. It may not grow, but I expect
it to grow, right? But I'm not going to go out there
and say, I'm going to do all the labor and I'm going to till the
ground. I'm going to throw the seed out and go, yep. Just don't
expect it to grow. Then maybe you need to go to
somebody who knows how to garden and learn how to do it, right?
But we're stubborn people, aren't we? I can say I'm a gardener because
you're not a gardener. You didn't grow anything except
weeds. Well, same thing. How many of
us are going through the motions of, well, I hand out tracts,
but I've never seen anybody save? Well, throwing them at people
and running away doesn't do it. Right? But how often have you
prayed and said, God, today would you put somebody in my path that
needs to hear the gospel and give me the wisdom to share with
them? Give me the time, right? Let
me block out the time to be able to sit down and hear their need
and share Jesus with them. How many times do we pray before
we ever come to church? How many of us pray this morning,
Father, we want to see somebody saved this morning. Would everything,
would everything, can we just, can I make sure my heart's right,
Lord, because I don't want to be a hindrance. Can I make sure
everything's right with me? Can I do nothing? Can I make
sure, Lord, that I'm aware in the service enough to where I
don't do anything to distract anybody from hearing what the
preacher's saying? We ever do that or we just come in, plop
down, talk about it? Listen, I'm not We'll just plop
down, talk about the week's events. Well, you know, I went to the
flea market this week and I got some good deals. Why can't you
do that at home? We all have phones. Why does
it have to be at church we're catching up on this week's events?
Why can't this area right here just be about Jesus? So the faith affects the outcome
of things. Wonder if God's looking at our
church for the gym and going, you know what, I'd love to save
some people, but they just don't have enough faith. So there's an outcome of necessity.
They were fishing for their livelihood. And so the Lord is fully able
to meet our need. Is that right? I mean, he met their need, but
then there was an outcome of abundance. He gives more than
necessary. He gave so much, the Bible said
they beckoned their partners in the other ship, they should
come and they filled both the ships so that they began to sink.
I don't know about you, I don't think probably Peter went out
there and said, hey, I bet Jesus is going to fill our boat up
and all our buddies and we're going to sink. But that's what
he gave them. But Johnny, God has given me
way more than I've ever asked for. Way more than I even need. Amen. That's the abundance of
God. God will do more than you can
ask or think. You say, how do you know that?
Because it says it in his word. But see, here's the problem.
Ready for this? Give you this and we're done.
In your life, in your life, what are you really trusting God for
and why? I'm trusting God for a pay raise. For what? What do you want a
pay raise for? So my life's easier. I'm trusting God for more money
in my 401k because I want to retire early. For what? So I
can travel. What are you going to do traveling?
Well, I just want to enjoy life. Preacher, I'm saying until you
draw your last breath, your role and your purpose in life is to
bring glory to God. I'm okay, people are retiring,
you know what? But why not take that retirement and go out and
help missionaries or go and spend more time helping in the church?
See, no, it becomes about us. And so the question becomes,
why do you want the abundance of God in your life? Is it to
consume it or to reinvest it into what God wants? I can look at some of y'all right
now and be like, you're like, I ain't buying into this preacher.
Okay, don't. But see, that's our problem.
And we're just, part of us, we're creatures of our society. It's
like habit, right? I want to consume more. I want
nicer stuff and better stuff. And hey, okay, if God bless you
with that. But here's my point. When God does things, he wants
us to use it for his glory. Agree? So notice this. The Bible said he filled up both
ships. Well, you know what Peter could have done? He could have
said, all of it's mine, boys. When we get back to the shore,
it's all mine. Right? But he gave Peter enough
to share. He gave Peter enough for Peter
and the abundance was not for Peter to take home and consume
or store. It was for somebody else. And
do you think Peter ever had much trouble trusting God for a fishing
trip again? Probably not. And so I'm just
saying this folks when we look at things. We look at us and
we're saying, God, listen, uh, I need this for me. And if you
don't meet this need, if you don't do it this way, then, then
I don't know if I can trust you again. That's not what Peter
did. Peter said, listen, we've already done all this. And it
didn't work, but nevertheless, we'll do it again because you
said to. Hey, you know what church, we can look that with us. Well,
we've run buses. It doesn't work. We've knocked
on doors. It doesn't work. But have we ever looked and said,
God, you, you be the center of it, right? Not us, not, not how
many people come to church, not about our ministry, but Lord,
you be the center. We want to, we want to bring
people to you. Maybe we ought to just recalibrate
some things in our life. Missions, we have to recalibrate.
Lord, it's got to be about you. Bus ministry, Lord, it's got
to be about you. The choir, the preaching, the
music, the media, the nursery, whatever it is, it's got to be
about you. This morning, God may be testing
your faith. You don't understand it. Well,
here's your choice. Either you can stay on the shore
or you can trust his word and launch out in the deep. If you're
here today, you've never trust Him as your Savior. I don't understand
it all, preacher. Peter didn't understand it all,
but he believed His Word. See, if you'll believe His Word
this morning, you don't have to have all the answers. You
just have to know that Jesus said this, Whosoever shall call
upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. That's a promise of
God in His Word. He doesn't know all I've done.
He doesn't care all you've done. That's in His Word. He has to
do it because He's obligated Himself this morning. Now the
question becomes, will you trust him? Will I trust him? If you
will, there's some benefits of abundance on the other side of
trusting God. If you won't, hey, Peter could
have said, nope, Lord, not gonna do it. We'll just go out tomorrow.
Guess what probably would have happened? Caught nothing. And
that's where a lot of us, well, I'll just wait and do it again.
I know what I'm doing. If you knew what you was doing,
you'd have some fish. But if you'll trust Him, He'll
give you more than you could ever ask for. Let's stand together. Testing of our faith this morning.
God's testing us. Everything's a test. I don't
want to be tested. Well, it's going to happen no
matter what. So let's stand together. Heads are bowed, eyes are closed.
No one's looking around. Thank you for your attention.
If you're here today, you've never trusted Jesus as your Savior.
I want you to do this. I want you to slip your hand
up and say, Pastor, I need you to pray for me. I don't know
if I'd die today. I'd go to heaven. Would you pray
for me? Is there one? Is there one? Just
be honest. Maybe this morning your message
spoke to your heart and you said, you know what, Lord, I want to
trust you for greater things. I'm tired of the humdrum. I'm
tired of the mediocre. I'm tired of not having abundance
in my life and I want to trust you for greater things, but I'm
scared. That's all right. I think Peter
was scared. He's going out in the deep. but he did it see there's a difference
when you do it only trust him Thank you, Father, for the message
and thank you for the example we have of faith and trust in
you. You've been awful good to us.
I pray, God, you'd strengthen our faith and stretch our faith.
Thank you for being good to us. Thank you for loving us. In Jesus'
name we pray, amen.
