Welcome to Read Through the Bible
in a Year, July 3rd. Today's reading is Acts chapter
11, 1 Kings chapter 21, and Psalm chapter 2. So let's get started
in Acts chapter 11. And the apostles and brethren
that were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received
the word of God. And when Peter was come up to
Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with
him, saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst
eat with them. But Peter rehearsed the matter
from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,
I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision,
a certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet let
down from heaven by four corners, and it came even to me. Upon
the witch, when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered and saw
a four-footed beast of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping
things, and fowls of the air. And I heard a voice saying unto
me, Arise, Peter, slay and eat. But I said, Not so, Lord, for
nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth. But the voice answered me again
from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. And
this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into
heaven. And behold, immediately there
were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from
Caesarea unto me. And the Spirit bade me go with
them, nothing doubting. Moreover, these six brethren
accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house. And he
showed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood
and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose
surname is Peter, who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and
all thy house shall be saved. And as I began to speak, the
Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered
I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized
with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. For as much
then as God gave them the light gift as he did unto us, who believed
on the Lord Jesus Christ, what was I that I could withstand
God? When they heard these things,
they held their peace and glorified God saying, Then hath God also
to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. Now they which were
scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen, traveled
as far as Pharnacia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word
to none but unto the Jews only. And some of them were men of
Cyprus, and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, speak
unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand
of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed, and
turned unto the Lord. Then tidings of these things
came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem, and they
sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
who, when he came and had seen the grace of God, was glad and
exhorted them all that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto
the Lord. For he was a good man and full
of the Holy Ghost and of faith, and much people was added unto
the Lord. Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus
for to seek Saul. And when he had found him, he
brought him unto Antioch, And it came to pass that a whole
year they assembled themselves with the church and taught much
people, and the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. And in these days came prophets
from Jerusalem unto Antioch, and there stood up one of them
named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should
be great dearth throughout all the world, which came to pass
in the days of Claudius Caesar, Then the disciples, every man
according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren
which dwelt in Judea, which also they did, and sent it to the
elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul. This concludes the
reading of Acts chapter 11. 1 Kings chapter 21 And it came to pass after these
things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in
Jezreel, hired by the palace of Ahab, king of Samaria. And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying,
Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs,
because it is near unto my house, and I will give thee for it a
better vineyard than it. Or, if it seem good to thee,
I will give thee the worth of it and money. And Naboth said
to Ahab, The Lord forbid it me that I should give the inheritance
of my fathers unto thee. And Ahab came into his house
heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the
Jezreelite had spoken to him. For he had said, I will not give
thee the inheritance of my fathers. and he laid him down upon his
bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread. But Jezebel
his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so
sad, that thou eatest no bread? And he said unto her, Because
I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy
vineyard for money, or else, if it please thee, I will give
thee another vineyard for it. And he answered, I will not give
thee my vineyard. Then Jezebel his wife said unto
him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise and
eat bread, and let thine heart be merry. I will give thee the
vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite. So she wrote letters in Ahab's
name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto
the elders and to the nobles that were in his city dwelling
with Naboth. And she wrote in the letters,
saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the
people, and set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear
witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and
the king. and then carry him out and stone
him, that he may die. And the men of his city, even
the elders and the nobles, who were the inhabitants in his city,
did as Jezebel had sent unto them, and as it was written in
the letters which she had sent unto them. They proclaimed a
fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. And there came
in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him. And the men
of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence
of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king.
Then they carried him forth out of the city and stoned him with
stones, that he died. Then they sent to Jezebel, saying,
Naboth is stoned and is dead. And it came to pass, when Jezebel
heard that Naboth was stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said
to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the
Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money, for Naboth
is not alive, but dead. And it came to pass, when Ahab
heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the
vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite to take possession of it. And
the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria. Behold, He is in the vineyard
of Naboth, whither he has gone down to possess it. And thou
shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Hast thou
killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him,
saying, Thus saith the Lord, In the place where dogs lick
the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine. And
Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he
answered, I have found thee, because thou hast sold thyself
to work evil in the sight of the Lord. Behold, I will bring
evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will
cut off from Ahab, him that pisseth against the wall, and him that
is shut up and left in Israel, and will make thine house like
the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. and like the house
of Baasha, the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith
thou hast provoked me to anger and made Israel to sin. And of
Jezebel also spake the Lord, saying, the dogs shall eat Jezebel
by the wall of Jezreel. Him that dieth of Ahab and the
city, the dogs shall eat. And him that dieth in the field
shall the fowls of the air eat. But there was none like unto
Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight
of the Lord, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up. And he did very
abominably in following idols, according to all things as did
the Amorites, whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.
And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent
his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and
lay in sackcloth, and went softly. And the word of the Lord came
to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, Seest thou how Ahab humbleth
himself before me? Because he humbleth himself before
me, I will not bring the evil in his days, but in his son's
days will I bring the evil upon his house. This concludes the
reading of 1 Kings chapter 21. Psalm chapter 2. Why do the heathen
rage and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth
set themselves and the rulers take counsel together against
the Lord and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands
asunder and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the
heavens shall laugh. The Lord shall have them in derision.
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in
his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my
holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree. The
Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my son, this day have I begotten
thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee
the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the
earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a
rod of iron. Thou shalt dash them in pieces
like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings,
be instructed Ye judges of the earth, serve the Lord with fear,
and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry,
and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put
their trust in him. This concludes the reading of
Psalm chapter 2, and this concludes the reading for July 3rd. May
the Lord richly bless your day.
