Hello, my name is Adele Dunn. I teach Global Marketing class here at Bob Jones University. The Global Marketing course is one of BJU's upper level business classes and the course has two main goals and those are essentially to enable students to develop the skills to assess entry into an international market and also then to decide appropriate marketing solutions in that market. And then another goal is to inspire students to really use the skills that they've developed in class to serve God in whatever context they find themselves in. So those are challenging goals and one of the best ways to develop those skills is really through experience. And I'm really thankful that we were able to partner with Sermon Audio this semester and allow students to develop some of these experiences, learn from these experiences. Hi, my name is Brandon Jackson. I'm a senior business administration with a minor in marketing here at Bob Jones. I love that Dr. Dunn actually brings in a company that we can help out. This is our global marketing class, really focusing on getting outside of the United States. Working in a team, we can accomplish something bigger and bigger than ourselves and our school. It's actually global. Since I am from a really small town, it's definitely a culture shock. So working with people that are from a completely different country that I've never been to. Demographics or religion, economics, or all of the above. It's going to be very challenging and very stretching for me to understand and be able to represent those aspects to other people. In this case, helping Sermonatio reach out into Brazil. So in the early part of the semester, everything was going well. Teams were getting established. We were learning about Brazilian culture. We had a fun event where students were able to taste some Brazilian dishes. We had about one third of the project completed. Then COVID-19 hit. All on-campus classes will end tomorrow. All classes next week are suspended. The global marketing class, just like every other class, was forced to go completely online. And at the outset, I really did wonder if our teams were going to be able to deliver. The teams had to learn to collaborate online. When you think about it, really, this was a wonderful experience for a global marketing class because they were actually having to behave as global marketers. They were having to communicate in different time zones. One of our students was in China, another was in Alaska. They also had to learn how to use tools like Microsoft Teams and Streams and Zoom. So it was a very challenging time, but I feel like that challenging time stretched us and made us perhaps more innovative than we would have been otherwise. The final Zoom meeting for the class was a really powerful event and I'm really, really thankful to Sermon Audio and to all the students that worked so hard on the project. Many of the students that attended the meeting were graduating and this was their very last class in BJU. and they had the opportunity to receive really detailed critique of their work from a business owner and also to be commended when they came up with good solutions to a marketing problem. I felt that was a really valuable learning experience for them. And then they also got the opportunity to observe a business owner who loves the Lord and seeks to honour the Lord in his decision-making process. And that is invaluable for young graduates going out into the workplace. So, reflecting back on the original goals for the class, I feel, the Sermon Audio Project helped the students to develop skills to understand how to enter a global market and how to plan appropriate solutions. But more than that, I think the class inspired the students to take those skills and use them to serve the Lord in wherever he places them in the future. Thank you for watching!
