And so here we are passing through
and the Bible tells what the future holds. And you've got
Daniel silently listening to Gabriel for three chapters and
finally breaks his silence in verse number eight. He says,
and I heard, but I understood not. I didn't get it. He said,
oh my Lord, what should be the end of these things? There are things that we don't
understand. There are times that we don't
understand. And so at such times, let's seek out knowledge. Let's
seek out truth. Let's do what Daniel did. Let's do what the
angel did and ask to know some things because the future awaits
us as God's people. And it's a very exciting one. The Bible says that the gospel
of Christ is the power of God unto salvation. Welcome to Pulpit
Power featuring Pastor Tony Skeving, Senior Pastor of Fargo Baptist
Church in Fargo, North Dakota. Today's message was previously
preached before a church audience. And now, here's Pastor Skeving. Let's take our Bibles please
and turn once again to the book of Daniel in the 12th chapter. We have I believe 9 verses left
out of 357 verses, imagine that. And we have I believe spent over
3 years studying the book of Daniel verse by verse and we're
winding it down just another message or two left. we're going
to be talking today about when we don't understand. We find
something here in the text with Daniel that he just doesn't understand.
He's perplexed by this and he asks for some clarification.
Now, we've covered already verse 4 and we find the angel talking
to Daniel, the angel Gabriel who says, "'But thou, O Daniel,
shut up the words and seal the book, even to the time of the
end. Many shall run to and fro, and
and knowledge shall be increased." Now notice he says to Daniel,
shut up the book, seal this book here. And this is Gabriel talking
and Daniel's now receiving the conclusion of what we've been
looking at, all these 357 verses here. And it's time for him to
finish writing on that scroll, to put that quill up, to blow
on that ink, let it dry and then roll up that scroll because the
revelation at this point is finished, this is it. But before God signs
off, notice he gives us some hints about the last days. In
verse number four, he mentions even to the time of the end. And then he says, many shall
run to and fro. Folks, if I could describe the
last 50 to 100 years, it's been a time of mobility, great increasing
of mobility and folks running to and fro. How many have played
on a pinball machine before? Been a long time for me. We used
to take our kids to Happy Joe's on their birthday years ago.
And so that's probably the last time I played pinball. But you
know how it works there. Basically, there's this little
iron ball in there that just... It's just bouncing around from
one thing to the next. And we live in a day and age
when folks are going to and fro. We become human pinballs. It's rush, rush, rush, rush,
rush. And that takes its toll on us physically. We've talked
about that already. You know, my grandkids and I
watched a documentary here a while back on the Wright brothers. And of course, they are credited
with inventing the airplane that really gave us all this mobility.
showed their home and their neighborhood in Dayton, Ohio as little boys
growing up, and they went up and down the street, and a lot
of those houses are still there, basically a little over 100 years
ago. And guess what? All of them had
porches on them. And you say, why porches on houses
of yesteryear and not so much today? Because people took time
in the evening to sit down and have some fellowship. and talk
with one another. And I tell you, we don't do that
today. And I've gotten caught up in it. And I'm starting to
rebel. I really am. I'm tired of it. I believe we
need to build some porches on our front of the houses again. And maybe with that, it might
be time to put away those video games. I mean, really? I don't
think we need any more flashing lights. I don't think we need
any more noise as it were. It's noisy enough today. And
people are just all over the place and running to and fro.
But also in verse number 4 it mentions here knowledge. shall
be increased." Do we see that in the day and age in which we
live in? Knowledge has exploded. I think I mentioned before, when
I went in to get my first smartphone, I'd had a flip phone like you
up to that time, and the guy said at AT&T, well, you need
one of these smartphones. I go, well, what's so smart about
it? And he said, well, ask it a question. I said, get out of
here. No, ask it a question. So I did. I said, who won the
1987 World Series? And a little voice comes out
and says, 1987 World Series was won by the Minnesota Twins over
the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. And I'm going, this is
crazy. Who won the 91 World Series?
It tells me the same thing. And I'm going, this thing knows
everything. And we have that all at our fingertips now. I'm
telling you, the computer has changed our society dramatically. The internet has changed our
culture beyond what we could imagine. And so we have all this
knowledge increasing. And somebody says, well, pastor,
Are we smarter today than they were in days gone by? I don't
think so. I mean, it would look that way
because of the increase of knowledge. But can you imagine Adam, the
first man, God bringing him thousands of animals, he names every one
of them and remembers their names. Folks, we're just building on
past knowledge. That's all. We're just standing on the shoulders
of the intellectual giants of the past and building upon their
knowledge. But the sad truth is this, with
the increase of knowledge, you would think we're getting wiser
in the things of God, but with the increase of knowledge, We're
witnessing a fading knowledge in the things of God, aren't
we? It's getting worse and worse. Now, in 2 Timothy 3.1, the Bible
says, know this also, that in the last days, perilous times
shall come. So, in context we're talking
about the last days, and it goes on to mention of men ever learning
and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now,
what's the truth? That's the $64,000 question.
Well, Christ tells us in John 17, this book is truth. So, the
bottom line is our Bible is truth, and we have people that are ever
learning about everything but the Bible, but they're never
able to come to the knowledge of the book. And it's part of
the great apostasies we're experiencing in the last days. You know, that
Pentecostalism and Charismatism and other isms are preaching
that we are having a great awakening in the last days, a great revival.
Well, I don't see that. I don't see that with my eyes.
I see a compromise to where the bar has been so lowered that
anyone can get over it. I'm a born again Christian too.
Put her there, blankety blank. I'm a believer too. And we have
this really low brand of Christianity and we call that a revival. It's
not. So my eyes don't see it. And
I don't see it as I read the Bible either, because the Bible
says, let no man deceive you by any means, for that day shall
not come except there come a falling away first. We get a word apostasy
from that. So that the second coming of
Christ that day shall not come except there be a falling away
first. And we are seeing that. And so
we find that here's men and they're ever learning, they're never
able to come to the knowledge of the truth. And we've gotten
so clever and yet we've missed God. We've missed God. And you know, the lost can come
up with some pretty clever stuff. A lot of learning, AI and things
that are just amazing. But we find, number 5 that there
are going to be knowledge increasing in the last days, but not biblical
knowledge. Then we read in verse 5, Then
I, Daniel, looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one
on this side of the bank of the river, and the and the other
on that side of the bank of the river. Here we find Daniel finally
reengaging in the narrative here, because since chapter 10, he's
been all ears. It's been Gabriel talking to
him. He's just kind of taken this down so that we'd have it
today. now he's re-engaging and we find him mentioning here this
river. I, Daniel, looked, and behold,
there stood other two, one on this side of the bank of the
river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
And last time we talked about that river being Hittikal part
of the Euphrates system. And we find that back in chapter
10 verse 4. And where the whole thing got
started. Daniel said, I was fasting, I
was praying, I was concerned about the future of my people,
and I was by the river Hittikal. So, we're assuming here in chapter
12 that it's the river Hittikal. Now, notice verse 5 introduces
us to two men, I believe they're angels. Verse 5, Then I, Daniel,
looked, and behold, there stood other two, the one on this side
of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the
bank of the So, we've got two angels, two men, but there's
a third person that just comes into the scene. And where did
he come from? Nothing's really said to introduce
him in verse 6. And one said to the man clothed
in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, how long
shall it be to the end of these wonders? So, there's a third
man and he's different from the other two. He's not standing
on the bank of the river. He's standing on the river. He's
on the river. Now, who's this? Well, a few
hints for us here, all right? There's really only one that
can defy the laws of physics and gravity and water surface
membrane and all that that he initially created, and that would
be the Lord Jesus Christ. But also we get a hint in the
New Testament. There's somebody we know that
can stand on water, that can walk on water. Matthew 14 it
says, and in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto
them walking on the sea. So we have that hint that this
person, this messenger, this heralder is standing on the water,
pretty good chance it's Jesus. But also we find that He's clothed
in linen. See that in verse 6? And once
said to the man, clothed in linen. You say is that a hint? Yes,
because back in chapter 10 if you want to pay there really
quickly. We find that as Daniel was doing another one of those
fasts and trying to get a hold of God, he gets an appearance. And notice he says in verse 5,
then I lifted up mine eyes and looked, and behold a certain
man clothed in linen. And we determine way back in
chapter 10 this man is the Lord Jesus Christ. And so, in here
in chapter 12 here's a scenario. In verse 5 we've got an angel
on each side of the river. We have the Lord Jesus Christ
upon the river, Hittikel. And we find a question blurted
out simply, how long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
At the end of verse number 6. What wonders? What wonders? Well,
I believe they're asking about the Tribulation Period or the
last half of the Tribulation Period that we know to be the
Great Tribulation Period. And so, Daniel has been hearing
about the events of the Great Tribulation Period. We've studied
them up to this point. And the question is this. How
long is that going to go on? When the time comes, this persecution
of the chosen people of Israel, this oppression of the Jews,
how long is that going to last? How long will that last? Well,
look at verse 7, And I heard the man clothed in linen, that's
Christ, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up
his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and swear by him
that liveth forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and
a half. You say, well, how long is that?
Well, I'm going to show you a few passages here to kind of add
some light to it here, but let's just assign years to these times,
okay? And so time is one year. Times
would be two years. Half would be half of a year.
And we're talking about three and a half years. You say, where
do you get that? Because we've seen something
already very similar to this. Now, I mentioned last time there's
two very powerful, significant prophetic books in the Bible
that kind of stand above the rest. I mean, there's some great
prophetic books, but the book of Daniel would just be like
way off the charts and so would the book of the Revelation. And
we find in the book of Daniel, it covers centuries. It covers,
actually, millenniums. It covers some stuff yet out
front in the future, whereas the book of the Revelation really
specifically covers a seven-year period, and just what we know
to be the Tribulation period. So in the book of the Revelation,
we see this in chapter 10. John sees this, he says, and
the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth, lift
up his hand to heaven and swear by him that liveth forever and
ever. Does this sound familiar? So
we have that angel standing there, lifting up his hands, taking
an oath, swearing by him that liveth forever and ever. And
so we find Christ doing the same thing in both books. about that
3 1⁄2 years? Well, we read this in Revelation
13, 5 of the false prophet, and there was given unto him, or
the Antichrist, there was given unto him a mouth speaking great
things and blasphemies, and power was given unto him to continue
40 and 2 months. Now, you do the math here 42
months basically is 3 ½ years, 12 months in a year you've got
2 ½ or 3 ½ years here. Now we also read this in Revelation
11, the Bible says, American calendar, our 21st Century
calendar has 365 days in it. But the Jewish calendar of this
time had 360 days in it. So, if you divide that 360 into
the 1260 you get exactly three and a half. So, once again we
are talking about three and a half years. So, the There's these
angelic beings back here in Daniel chapter 12, who are standing
on each side of the River Hitticale. Daniel's been fasting for weeks
here. And everybody is curious to know how long that Great Tribulation
period is going to take. Daniel's curious, but I like
the fact that the angels are also curious to know this. Did
you notice that in verse six? And one said to the man clothed
in linen. So you got one angel asking the
Lord, which was upon the river, how long shall it be to the end
of these wonders? Did you know that the workings
of God with believers, with Israel, with the things of God are fascinating
to angels? Did you know that? Angels are
fascinated by what's going on, God's workings here on the earth.
You know, down here we find people tuning in every night to entertainment
tonight. What's going on in Hollywood?
Who's divorcing who? What's the latest diva? And who's
the latest diva? And what's the latest drama?
And what's the latest drivel? And you know, here they are into
that stuff, when really the angels are going, ho-hum, what's God
up to? What are the workings of God?
You say, how do you know that angels are interested in the
workings of God? Well, I find it right here in
Daniel 12, but I also find it over in 1 Peter 1. The Bible
says unto us, speaking of the Old Testament prophets, did they
minister the things which are now reported unto you by them
that have preached the gospel unto you, these are New Testament
preachers now, with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven,
notice this part, which things the angels desire to look into. Can you see the angels of heaven
squinting and peering and using maybe binoculars to try and see
what's going on down here and what we're up to? We find that's
exactly the case here in Daniel chapter 12. You've got some angels
asking questions. And I think we need to take a
lesson from the angels, folks. I think we need to forget about
all the drivel that's going on in this world right now. And
you know, may I just stop and say that some of the posts I
even see that are posted on social media by Christian people are
disappointing. You know, some of the things
they're following, some of the things they're into, I just say,
why? They're not really wholesome.
They're into worldly things. Things I really am glad I'm in
the dark about. Things that really aren't on
my radar and they don't need to be. I want to look into the
things that angels desire to look into. that they're curious
about. And I'll guarantee you one of
them is the New Testament church and the workings of the New Testament
church. I think we sell short what we have here as far as its
worth and value to heaven. Because I find in Ephesians 5
the Bible says Christ loved the church, the local church, He
gave Himself for it. Makes it pretty important. And
I find this in Ephesians 3, unto Him be glory in the church, by
Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. You know, when a believer is
more interested in worldly things, and even in New Evangelical Christian
things than they are in a New Testament church. It may be that
they're more backslidden than they realize. They could probably
use a revival. These angels in Daniel wanted
Bible truth. there's some 21st century believers
who are just really out of it. And you see that and you say,
is that possible? Yeah, it's possible. You know
I find a guy in the Old Testament by the name of Jacob who would
be renamed Israel and that name would go with the Jews up until
today. Jacob is out in the middle of
nowhere, he's sleeping and in this particular place and he
has a dream and realizes it's the very door to heaven. He wakes
up and he says, what? He goes, whoa, God is in this
place. It's a door to heaven, I didn't
know it. Well, I believe the day sadly is gonna come at the
judgment seat of Christ when a believer is going to realize
they were sitting in the middle of something big and they could
have feasted on that and they were sacrificing the future on
the altar of the immediate with all that worldly stuff that really
they shouldn't have been tuned into. These angels were tuned
into something that was important to heaven. And as they heard
about all this persecution coming down on the Jewish people, they
said, how long? How long? And I want to stay
dialed into the right stuff and have that on my radar as well. I think the most interesting
thing in the universe is what God is doing. And the angels
were curious, and Daniel was curious, and Daniel had a ringside
seat to it all. He's watching this revelation
unfold, and he said, I'm curious. What is going to befall my people
in the latter days? That's what this is all about.
It's all about Israel. In fact, The whole end times
thing, we have to keep it in perspective or we can get off
doctrinally. The whole end times thing is
about the Jews. And they're right in the middle
of the news right now. I mean, what news you follow,
you'd know that. So at the very core of the question,
the angel they're asking here is the Jewish nation. How long
is the Antichrist going to be able to whoop up on the Jewish
people and able to oppress the chosen? And the answer, for three
and a half years, for the last half of the tribulation period.
Now, currently, we're even seeing a little foretaste of that with
the anti-Semitism. We're even witnessing in our
nation, I said last time, you know, it's been kind of a trickle
in the past. It pops up and it gets poo-pooed
right away. It's rampant right now. It's
rampant right now. We have foolish people in this
country who have more sympathy for terrorists than we do the
chosen people of God. And boy, has that truth ever
been distorted by the media. We had something for our senior
saints here a few weeks ago. And we had actually a Jewish
fella who's been there in the thick of that. Give us a clear
picture of what really is going on over there. And it was very,
very interesting. I'll just say this, the devil
has been busy. devil's not going to stop. And
so if it's going on now, the anti-Semitism, can you imagine
what it's going to be during the last half of the Tribulation
period? I mean it's going to be no holds barred. And minds
are being prepared right now. We see that happening. So, at
the end of verse 6, here's the question, how long shall it be
to the end of these wonders? How long are the Jewish people
going to have to put up with this until be in a punching bag
here, and how much worse is it gonna get? That's a good question.
You ever imagine how much worse it's gonna get, what this world
is coming to? So they say, how long is this
gonna go on? And they get their answer in verse seven. Daniel
says, and I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the
waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his
left hand unto heaven, and swear by him that liveth forever, that
it shall be for a time, times, half. So, notice he lifts up
his hand and he swears it's going to be for three and a half years.
By the way, that's a practice we do to this day, don't we?
We put our hand on the Bible and you swear to tell the truth,
the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and you go, where
does that come from? It comes from the Bible. We find
back in, I think it's Genesis chapter 14, Abraham does that. He lifts his hand up and he swears
to God. We find in Deuteronomy 32 where
Moses does the same thing, lifts up his hand and he swears to
God. And that holding up of the hand kind of a thing is the ultimate
in honesty. We assume somebody taking the
stand and doing that to testify, it really authenticates that
he's going to tell the truth because he's swearing by the
highest authority in the universe. Now, if you're God already, like
the man clothed in linen standing on the water is, you already
got God the Son upon that water, who do you swear by? Well, we
read this in Hebrews 6, "'For when God made promise to Abraham,
because he could swear by no greater, he swore by himself.'"
So it's God saying, so help me God, because there's no higher
authority than that. So here we have the Son of God
swearing by God the Father. The angel of linen, Jesus Christ,
is promising. that the woes of the Jewish people
are going to go on for three and a half years. He doesn't
just use one hand, he uses both hands. He lifts them up to heaven,
and he makes that vow. That's what's going to happen.
And God cannot lie, according to Titus 1-2. Now, we read on
in verse number seven. All right, he held up his right
hand and his left hand into heaven, and swear by him that liveth
forever that it shall be for a time, times and a half, and
when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy
people, all these things shall be fulfilled." That is very,
very interesting. What does this mean? Scatter
the power of the holy people. Well, who are the holy people?
The holy people are the Jewish people. That's a reference to
God's chosen there. What's this mean about scattering
their power? I want to show you here, and
you've got to listen carefully. What it's talking about is God
finally breaking their will, their stubborn will. They have
been digging in for millenniums now. rejecting their own Messiah. And Paul talked about that in
Romans 9, Romans 10. And so what this is talking about,
and I'm going to show you this at the end of verse 7, is God
is going to finally break that resistance. They have been stiff-arming
the Messiah since the trial of him, by Pontius Pilate. They said, crucify Him. And Pilate
said, well, okay, it's not on me, it's on you. And in Matthew
27, then answered all the people and said, His blood be on us
and on our children. And since that time, it's been
a sad, sad millennium or two for the Jewish people. Now, let
me just say this. God does nothing without purpose.
Why the Tribulation Period? Why the Great Tribulation Period?
What is its purpose? The purpose of the Great Tribulation
Period, primarily, is to finally break the Jewish people. I want
you to look carefully at verse number 7. It says, and when he
shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people,
all these things shall be finished. That Hebrew word scatter there
means to break and scatter, finally to break their will. It's going
to finally happen at the end of the tribulation period. Their
will will be broken. And that, my friend, will be
the consummation of the ages. Time, as we know it, can stop.
Really, that's all that's holding it up right now. We say, oh,
this stuff the politicians are doing, you know, they got the
power and the sway and they're determining all that. No, no,
no, no. When the consummation of the ages is going to finally
happen is when the Jewish people say, uncle, and they receive
their Messiah. That is all that is holding it
up right now. The great tribulation is for
the Jews to bring them the end of themselves. And then we read
in Romans 11, And so all Israel shall be saved, as it is written,
There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, Jesus, and shall
turn away ungodliness and Jacob. That's what's going to happen.
Finally, there is going to be a wholesale submission of the
Jewish people to Christ, a bowing of the knee at that time, and
all things are going to be put under the feet of Christ at that
time. The Millennium can begin now. Eternity can begin. Now,
that brings us to verse 8. In verse number 8, Daniel finally
speaks up. He says, And I heard, but I understood
not. Then said I, O my Lord, what
shall be the end of these things? When's it going to end? How's
it going to end? Give me a date. Give me a time. Give me a month. Notice in verse
number nine, And he, the Lord, said, Go thy way, Daniel. For
the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Here
we find the angels asking the question, and they're told three
and a half years. But Daniel wants something a
little more specific. When's the date? When's the century? When's the decade? When is the
year? You know, there's something in the human heart that wants
to understand. Well, let me just say that in
the 21st century, we have a huge advantage. We don't really stop
and we think about this, but here's Daniel in the dark. I
mean, the whole last six chapters of the book of Daniel are prophetic
and they're given in certain terms that at the time, as Daniel
is hearing this and writing this down, it hadn't happened yet.
And so he has no clue what this is talking about. It is so accurate,
pinpoint accurate, that the scoffers believe it was written after
it happened. And we looked at all of that
stuff, people like Bernice, people like Seleucus, people like Ptolemy,
people like Antiochus Epiphanes and Cleopatra, and all described,
I mean perfectly, centuries before they were born. But at the time
of Daniel, they had not been born. They had not played out.
The Darius' and all these and Artaxerxes and so on, they weren't
alive yet. So that stuff followed in time.
But God was able to give it ahead of time because God knows the
future. History is His story. And so
we find out all of that stuff played out exactly the way God
said it would, but as Daniel is hearing it here, it's puzzling.
He doesn't get it. It's used in cloak language,
so he doesn't really know exactly what this is all about. And so
he asks this question in verse eight. He says, and I heard,
but I understood not. Then said I, oh my Lord, What
shall be the end of these things? We find Daniel interested in
knowing something more specific because the future was interesting
to him and it should be to us. Are you interested in the future?
Are you interested in the second coming of Christ? Is that something
you live in perspective of? I believe there is a special
reward for Christian people who have that on their heart as they
live out their lives now. I read this in 2 Timothy 4.8,
Paul mentions henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of
righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, should give
me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all them also
that love his appearing." Did you catch that? There's a special
reward, a crown for them who are looking for the second coming
of Christ, who love his appearing. Will I receive that crown? Will
you receive that crown? Are you one that is looking forward
to that? I don't expect lost people to
be looking forward to that. Lost people get up every day,
kind of head down. They never look at the sky. They
never acknowledge a creator. They never acknowledge a universe
with no walls. They never acknowledge time that's
always been and always will be. They just live for the here and
now. But a believer, we ought to have the attitude this could
be the day. and we're looking for his appearance. You know,
even lost people know there's weird stuff going on in the world
right now. I was talking to a preacher here this last weekend, and he
told me about a young man, no less, probably in his 20s, not
even saved, but says, I'd be surprised if this goes on for
more than a few more years. I mean, that's even the lost
looking at what's going on. So what does the future hold? I mean, forget the latest dumb
album by the latest diva, all right? It's as shallow as a birdbath. What does the future hold? What
are we really talking about? What is the future of the nation
of Israel? Now that it's back in the land
after 1900 years, that's big stuff. Here they are back in
their land. So what's coming down the pike?
The future ought to interest us. It really ought to interest
us. Where's this all heading? What's
the future? You know, it's possible for us
to be looking backward a lot, even lamenting something from
our past. I'm probably talking to somebody who's lamenting something
they did in the past. May I give you something encouraging?
Paul said, this one thing I do, forgetting those things which
are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before.
You know, if anybody had something to lament from his past, it was
the Apostle Paul. I mean, he had been there when
Stephen was put to death and other things, but here he is
saying, I gotta forget that, I gotta move on. There's a future
ahead of me here. And I've often said, there's
no future in the past, there really isn't. Now we learn from
the past, but I'm very excited about the future. I hope you're
excited about the future. And I wanna say this, if you're
not sure you're saved, you better be thinking about the future.
The future is extremely important. We read this in Amos 4 in verse
12. God says, because I will do this
unto thee, prepare to meet thy God. Are you prepared to meet
your God? You know, there was a fella,
I think it's been about 17 years or so ago, I had invited actually
his wife who worked at a bank I banked at to church and she
came for a while. He started coming with her and
heard the gospel and got under conviction and set up an appointment
with me to come in and hear about this being saved. We sat across
from each other. I took him through the plan of
salvation, led him to Christ, and I just still remember him
rejoicing, just so glad he had gotten that settled. Well, that
was 17 years ago. He contracted cancer in the meantime,
and a few days ago, he passed away. And I thought of a conversation
we'd had a few weeks earlier and he said this, he goes, I'm
not afraid to die. He was prepared to meet his God. Are you prepared to meet your
God? It makes all the difference in
the world in your future. Now, let me just say this. Be
a little future-minded, all right? It's way more important. And
I'm just gonna close here quickly with just rifling off several
verses, and then we're out of time. But in Matthew 24, Jesus
used the word, watch therefore, for you know not what hour your
Lord doth come. And we don't. Watch therefore. Paul told us this in 1 Thessalonians
5, for yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh
as a thief in the night. Therefore, let us not sleep as
do others, but let us watch and be sober. There's that word again.
What does it mean to watch? Well, it means more than just
kind of looking around. It speaks of waiting and looking
with anticipation. Something's on the horizon. Something's
going to happen. I'll close with this verse. Peter
put it this way. He said, but the end of all things
is at hand. Be you therefore sober and watch,
watch. I lied. We're gonna look at one
more verse. All right, in Revelation 20 to 20. Here we are at the
very end of the Bible. Christ says, surely I come quickly.
John adds, amen, even so come, Lord Jesus. Come quickly. The return of Christ, I believe,
is right around the corner. He's coming quickly. I don't
think it's going to be millions and millions and millions of
years. You've heard that. What does that do? Kind of like, oh,
this has been going on for millions of years. And the devil knows
that. That discourages people. We're not talking millions and
millions of years. The Bible says 1,000 years with the Lord
is as a day. And so here we are passing through,
and the Bible tells what the future holds. And you've got
Daniel silently listening to Gabriel for three chapters, and
finally breaks his silence in verse number eight. He says,
and I heard, but I understood not. I didn't get it. He said,
oh my Lord, what should be the end of these things? There are things that we don't
understand. There are times that we don't
understand. And so, at such times, let's seek out knowledge, let's
seek out truth, let's do what Daniel did, let's do what the
angel did, and ask to know some things, because the future awaits
us as God's people, and it's a very exciting one. You've been listening to Pastor
