Antiochus, Antichrist

Introduction

  1. The vision
    a. The ram: Media and Persia, the higher horn representing Persia.
    b. The goat: Alexander the Great died, and his kingdom was split
    between four generals.

  2. The little horn
    a. Antiochus: Verses 9-14 were fulfilled by Antiochus Epiphanes
    when he ransacked Jerusalem and the temple, and temporarily
    stopped the Jewish sacrifices.
    b. Antichrist: Antiochus and the antichrist are similar characters,
    with the antichrist seen as a fuller fulfillment of Daniel's
    prophecy.

Conclusion:
Daniel's distress was because of the persecution of his people.
