We're not gonna be in Ezekiel tonight because there are people who had asked me to preach in the book of Ezekiel and they're not here tonight. So I'm going to get a very simple message in the fourth chapter of the book of John. And it is very, very simple and very rich. Jesus in the fourth chapter of John verse three He leaves Judea, that means he leaves Jerusalem. And he departs to go to Galilee. Now listen carefully. The Jews do not, they hated the Samaritans. And the reason they hated them, although that's not a reason to hate anybody, but they did hate them. When the 10 tribes were conquered, by the Assyrians, the Assyrians brought people in and forced the Samaritans to be able to mix sexually and they had children and they were considered, the people of Samaria were considered to be half-breeds. Now, right now, if you were to go to Shechem and go up to Mount Gezerim, you'd find there are about 800 pure-blood Samaritans. I have had the opportunity. You can't go there on a tour bus because the road is not big enough for a bus to get up to Mount Gezerim. But they have a temple there. They have a high priest there. Many years ago, some of you remember him, Brother Don Smith. Brother Don told me, preacher, I want to go to the top of Mount Gerizim. And I said, well, I'll do my best. I went down into the old city of Jerusalem and I found a tour agency and they got us a taxi. And so we went up to Mount Gerizim. The high priest was very friendly. We had tea and some sweets with him. And Don asked him, he said, can I come here on Passover and watch you all? He never got to do it. And Don got very, very sick before he went to be with the Lord. And a few days before he died, He called me and said, Brother Bill, did we go to the top of Mount Gizorim? Did we have a fellowship with a high priest? I said, we sure did. He said, well, I've told people that and they don't believe me. So Don got to know that he did go up to Mount Gizorim. Now this is the part that's not nice, okay? We need to tell both sides of the story. get in the taxi that took us up to the top of Mount Giserium, we go on to Tiberius, and Don got angry with the taxi driver. And so he wouldn't give him a tip. And he told me, preacher, if you give him a tip, I'm never gonna speak to you again. So I did give him a tip, but Don never did know it. And because the man did a lot of wonderful things and he had to pull a lot of strings. to get us up there. Anyway, now Jesus is going through Samaria, going to Galilee. Now there were three ways you could go. You could go up the West Coast, up through Haifa. You could go down to Jericho and go up the Jordan River, or you could go the direct route, which was right through Samaria. And so it says here in verse three, He, Jesus, must needs go through Samaria. Now, this did not make him popular with the powers that be, but he had a reason to go Samaria. And that's what we wanna talk about in the rest of the message, it won't be long. Then he came to the city of Samaria, called Shinar, and he neared the parcel of ground that Jacob gave his son, Joseph. If those of you, right now you can't go to Shechem because the way the West Bank is all infested with terrorists and so on, but Joseph is buried there in the area of Samaria. They brought him, he made them promise, if you remember, to bring his body back when they went, and so for 40 years they carried his body around and finally they buried him there in Samaria. And those of us who have, before they got into such a problem, many of us have been to Joseph's tomb there in Samaria. And so, and Jacob's well was there. Jacob had dug a well. Now, if you lived in the Holy land and you owned a well, it was like having a gusher of an oil well, because water was more important than anything. And so Jesus stopped there at Jacob's well. And the Bible says this in verse six, that Jesus was weary from his journey. Aren't you thankful tonight? I mean really thankful that the one who died on the cross and who saved you from your sins knew what it was to get physically tired and worn out. He knew what it means. So when you get that way, you say, Jesus, thank you. I'm glad you know what it means to be tired and worn out. He sent his disciples on into town to get some food. At least that was his excuse for sending them in. He actually wanted to get rid of them because he knew that there was something gonna happen that they would cause a problem. And so there came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Now she came and depends on whether you believe that John gave Roman time or Jewish time. I believe he used Roman time because these people were not Jews in the sense that the people in Jerusalem were. And there came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Now she's all by herself. Because she is not welcome in the society Because she had we'll find out why as we progress in this scripture there came a woman Samaritan draw well and Jesus said to her give me to drink now a Samaritan Would never expected you to ask them for a drink of water or anything. They just hated each other and and his disciples were gone away to the city to buy meat. Then said the woman of Samaria to him, how is it that thou being a Jew asked a drink of me, which is a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. And Jesus had the answer for her. Jesus answered and said, if you knew the gift of God and who it is that says to thee, give me a drink, thou wouldest ask of him and he would have given thee living water. He would have given you the Holy Spirit and you'd have been able to be convicted and be saved. And the woman said, sir, Thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. I remember when Tom Carruth and I were standing there by this well, and I made up my mind, and this is kind of stupid, so don't you do it, that every place where there was something to drink like this, I was gonna get me a drink of it, and I drank some of that water from that well. It's not advisable, but it didn't bother me. It didn't give me didn't make me sick for thou for art thou greater than our father Jacob which gave us the well and drink thereof himself and his children his cattle and Jesus said unto her Whosoever that's all of us whosoever Drinketh the water this water shall thirst again But whosoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. But the water that I give him shall be in him a well of water, springing up to everlasting life." And this woman looked at him and said, Sir, I perceive that there's something different about you. Go call your husband and bring him here. And the woman said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her you said well, I have no husband for you have had five husbands and he whom thou now hast is not your husband your live of the man who you're not married to and The woman said to her sir, I perceive you're a prophet She said our fathers Worshipped here, but you worship in Jerusalem We don't we don't agree to worship in the same place. And here's how I'm gonna close the message tonight Woman, believe me the hour cometh When ye shall neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem worst of the father and here's us tonight right here in Shawnee America, you don't even know what you worship and But the hour cometh and now is when true worshipers, we've had true worship tonight, shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. And that's what we've done tonight, praise God. And so, Brother Phil, would you dismiss us in prayer?
