Exodus 3-2 says, And the angel
of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the
midst of a bush. And he looked, and behold, the
bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. According
to the Bible, if you're not a born-again Christian, then you don't know
Jesus. You might know his name, you might even know some facts,
including the facts of the gospel, and know many other things about
Jesus, but you don't know Jesus. There are many millions of people
who claim to be Christians and call Jesus by the term Lord.
But Jesus said in Matthew 7, 22 and 23, many will say to me
in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name?
And in thy name have cast out devils and in thy name done many
wonderful works. And then will I profess unto
them, I never knew you. Depart from me ye that work iniquity.
Why? Because they're frauds. They're
not born again. John 3, 7, Jesus said in plain
terms, marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again. I begin with that thought in
order to explain why it is that so few people seem to know the
real biblical Jesus. And if you really want to get
to know Jesus, forget what you've been told by anyone. Forget your
own opinions and go to the book, the Holy Bible, King James Version. In America, only about 10 to
15% of adults are professing born-again Christians who believe
that Jesus is God in the flesh, his death and resurrection are
sufficient to save those who believe, Jesus is the only way
to heaven, and other required fundamental doctrines. In other
words, beyond 10 or 15% of the American population, all other
professing born-again Christians are not Christians, and you talk
to them, they'll deny these fundamental doctrines. And the bottom line
is that 85 to 90% of Americans do not know Jesus at all. And even of that 10 to 15% who
really are born again believers in Jesus, there is a vast amount
of ignorance and unbiblical ideas about Jesus. Now just think about
that. I don't have time to make the
case further, but any honest observer who is himself or herself
a real born-again Christian would have to accept this as reality. And that's why when you start
to speak of Jesus as holy, just, and righteous, as the judge who
will damn all Christ-rejecting sinners to an everlasting lake
of fire, so many people, professing Christians and non-Christians
alike, totally reject that truth. Deuteronomy 4.24 says, for the
Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God. That's talking
about Jesus. And so is Deuteronomy 9.3 that
says, understand therefore this day that the Lord thy God is
he which goeth over before thee as a consuming fire. And that's not just Old Testament.
Hebrews 12.29 says, for our God is a consuming fire. So it should
be no surprise that the Lord approached Moses as the angel
of the Lord. These are known as pre-incarnate
Old Testament appearances of Jesus and they're called Theophanies
or Christophanies. And the angel of the Lord appeared
unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. Later,
Jesus appears to Samson's parents, and the description is amazing
in Judges 13, 19, and 20. So Manoah took a kid with a meat
offering and offered it upon a rock unto the Lord. And the
angel did wondrously. And Manoah and his wife looked
on, for it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven
from the altar, that the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame
of the altar. M&O would later say they'd seen
God. Why, that was Jesus in that flame. If your Jesus is just some always
soft-spoken flower child tiptoeing through the tulips, singing happy
clappy songs all the time, well, that Jesus is a facade. That
isn't the biblical Jesus. Now, it is a fact. Jesus is love. Jesus is mercy. Jesus is grace. He is gracious. But if you reject
him, then you are embracing unbelief and wickedness. And when that
happens, Jesus is judgment. Jesus is justice. Jesus is wrath. Jesus is a consuming fire.
