They will be read unto us out
of the Holy Scriptures. 1 Corinthians 11, 1 Corinthians
11, the verses 1 through 16, 1 Corinthians 11,
the verses 1 through 16, but before we listen to the holy
law of the Lord. And God spake all these words,
saying, I am the Lord thy God, which hath brought thee out of
the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt
have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee
any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven
above, or that's in the earth beneath, or that's in the water
under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself
to them, nor serve them, for I the Lord thy God I am a jealous
God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children
unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, and showing
mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name
of the Lord thy God in vain. for the Lord will not hold him
guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Remember the Sabbath
day to keep it holy. Six days shall thou labor and
do all thy work. But the seventh day is the Sabbath
of the Lord thy God, in it thou shalt not do any work. Thou,
nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservants, nor thy maidservants,
nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates, For
in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea and all that
in them is, and rested the seventh day. Wherefore the Lord blessed
the Sabbath day, and hallowed it. Honor thy father and thy
mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the
Lord thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt
not commit adultery, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear
false witness against thy neighbor, thou shalt not cover thy neighbor's
house, thou shalt not cover thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant,
nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything
that is thy neighbor's. Scripture reading is from 1 Corinthians
11 starting at verse 1 Be ye followers of me, even also
I am of Christ. Now I praise you, brethren, that
ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinance as I deliver
them to you. But I would have you know that
the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is
the man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or
prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. But every woman that prayed or
prophesied, with her head uncovered, dishonored her head. For that
is even all, one as if she was shaven. For the woman be not
For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn. But if
it be a shame for the woman to be shorn, or shaven, let her
be covered. For the man indeed ought not
to cover his head. For as much as he is the image
and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of the man. For
the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. Neither
was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man. For
this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because
of the angels. Nevertheless, neither is the
man without the woman. neither the woman without the
man in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man,
even is the man also by the woman, but all things of God. Judge
in yourselves. Is it commonly that a woman pray
unto God uncovered? Does not even nature itself teach
you that if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair,
it is a glory to her, to her hair is given her for a covering.
But if any man seem to be contentious, we have not such custom, neither
the churches of God." Just for the reading of God's holy words. Let's seek the face of the Lord
in prayer. Lord, that we might worship thee. being at their footstool on a
low place, humbled by grace. Might be for the first time or
another time to be in their house to see their beauty and glory. Lord, there are people, two ladies
who couldn't come, Mrs. Vandenberg, And she's waiting
for an examination result tomorrow, but she couldn't come. Oh, she
was here every Sunday, never leaving. But now she can't. Lord, grant her peace at home,
that the means given might be blessed. She cares for her old
husband and she hardly can be missed, but we are not in control. It's all going in thy ways for
thy own purpose. Remember her and her family,
the children and grandchildren. Lord, we pray also for Mrs. Vermeer. She couldn't come. She was in
the hospital. And we heard she could surrender
all things. What a wonder if our mouth is
closed and we might surrender all our life, sinful as it is
in itself. into thee by mercy. Remember her that also the means
might be blessed for the hindrance that she is about. Remember her
children and grandchildren and all their needs and all the things
which they are about. Bring them home to thyself. We pray for the family Shep,
where so suddenly a brother of Mrs. Shep is taken away by death,
60 years old. She's gone there. We pray for
her brethren, that they might be brought back unto thee before
leaving this world, meeting thee at the judgment seat. Without
Thee, oh, what a day will it be when the wrath of God is come
upon those who are outside of Christ. Remember her and bring her safely
back, and when this week the burial will be there, grant her
to be there and to be a witness of Thee. We pray, Lord, for the
whole congregation, for the family of Van Ittersen, when they came
back in Canada, that they might find a ministry, that the doors
might be opened to them somewhere, that he might continue to proclaim
thy word. Lord, remember him and his wife. Thou has cared for them in the
past and be in the present with them and make them a blessing
for their children when they are again in their family. We pray also for him who is among
us now and was touched by the ministry and has a call to be
a minister. We pray, Lord, that thou would
lead him and teach him and open the ways for the ministry he
desires. He started preaching already,
and thou hast blessed the ministry, given the pulpit. We pray for
the work of mission in Malawi and in Montreal, where openings
are given and ungodly are justified by a true faith in Christ. Out of the Catholic, the Roman
Catholic Church, coming like a Lutheran to the knowledge,
the saving knowledge of Christ, our dear son. Be with the ministry
there and the university and the students educated and the
churches asking for education. Remember our friend in Yugoslavia,
Serbia, Zimralović, which we visited some weeks ago, and all
the students at the Bible School there, and we pray that they
might be blessed. Oh, bless them. That nation is
in upheaval, so many without work, so many corruptions. But Lord, thou hast a little
hut of David in the desert there. Make those young men bold in
preaching, not fearing any evil, but fearing thee. Bless them
with the blessings of thy hands. with the blessings in Christ
Jesus to extend thy kingdom also in Serbia, in Albania, Bulgaria,
Croatia, Slovenia, where all the booklets translated are sent
and thou hast granted small congregations also in Albania. Lord, ah, remember
thy people in the Netherlands. We love them. and they love us
here. Grant them the ministry of thy
word and the application of thy spirit. Remember the family De
Groot in the ministry in Gedenbuiden and when this week Mrs. De Groot and her son is going
back to the Netherlands, please protect and care for them and
make them a blessing in thy hands. Lord, we have to ask a lot. But
thou hast said, open thy mouth wide. And we don't do it wide
enough. For thou hast said, open it wide,
and I will provide. And therefore, thou hast said,
who comes to thee must believe that I am, and a rewarder. of him that begs mercy from me. Lord, we confess that we are
not worthy of the least of thy benefits, but thy dear son is. And we are pleading upon mercy
only as beggars, as sinners, as prodigals, as hardened sinners
even. For Thy name's sake we pray,
for Jesus' sake only. Amen. Congregation, when I saw this
week the colors of the rainbow on the White House, I feared. Will the United States be an
apostated state while accepting, and even by the judges in the
high court, accepting homosexual, listen, relationships to be a
marriage? To be a marriage. In the first place, I believe
that it's a misuse of the rainbow, for the rainbow doesn't cover
every sin. But the rainbow is a sign that
the world, because of sin, will never be in a flood anymore. But the world is waiting for
a fire, for the wrath of God is to come, and they misuse the
rainbow. as colors on the White House
and as accepting homosexual marriages in the United States and where
it might be, in churches even today. It's a sign of apostasy. It's a sign of apostasy. God
will leave them. And I hope there might be in
the United States a return, a repentance, a cry for mercy. Oh, that it
might be there by grace alone, by Christ alone. Secondly, when I last week spoke
about the Heidelberg Catechism, I, out of Corinthians, said that
heresies must be in the congregation, that those who are approved might
be manifest. We always have our confessions
because of the heretics. And you know the Twelve Articles
is a confession of the Trinity against the Unitarians, the Arians. So why does the Church doesn't
confess the marriage today? Do you know why? They fear persecution. There should be a confession
concerning marriage. Even today, when the heretics
say a marriage is not only a marriage between a man and a woman, but
a being between man and man and women and women. Listen, I might
even be in jeopardy by saying it today. But why should I fear? Why should I fear? Therefore
we sing, we should fear the Lord. And children, don't fear man. Day of judgment is coming. And
you'll meet the God who gave his laws. And only by grace and
sanctification you can meet him in peace. So this morning I want
to deal in the first place with marriage out of 1 Corinthians
11. And in the congregation, there
are two signs, and I come to it. But it has to do with the
confession, with the marriage, with the creation of men and
women. And God brought a woman to a man, and he had to leave
his father's house and be in a unity with his wife as a new
family. I hope to deal with it, and you
can find it in the verses We start in the midst. He is the second part, and I
come to the science, but first the creation. He is the image
and glory of God, the man. But the woman is the glory of
man. For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for
the woman, but the woman for the man. And for this cause ought
the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. I
leave that out and I come at the end to it." This first marriage. What God did, creating man and
women, ish and isha. A man and a women man, literally
translated. A man and a women ish, and ish
is a person. There's a person and a women
person, that's literally translated. Why God did it? And we'll see
it. Creation, but also we see it
back in recreation, and in 11 it starts already with recreation. When we see here, but I would
have to, you know that the head of every man is Christ, and the
head of the woman is a man, is the man, and the head of Christ
is God. remarkable that in re-creation
the head of the man is not God, that's in creation, but in re-creation
Christ. And therefore Paul on another
place says, marriage is a mystery, it's the unity of Christ and
his church. It's a mystery. So the marriage
points after grace, after fall and after grace in Christ to
Christ and his church. It's a mystery. It's a secrecy. Now therefore, he starts with
recreation. But I start with creation and
I come to the signs. And two signs are given, long
hair and a covering. There are two signs. long hair
and a covering, and they are distinguished here. They are
not the same. Some say they are the same. They
are not the same. If you would read the English version, you
might easily say it, but if you read the Hebrew or the Greek
version, you will know that there are different words for it. But
first, the marriage, then the remarriage or the grazing marriage,
and secondly, two signs to deal with. First, we'll sing. 361 through 5, 361 through 5, where
we will sing together, blessed is the man that fears Jehovah
walking ever in his ways and what's following. And during
that singing, there will be a collection. Oh. So, You. Now it's time to dance again. you. I am your God! It's a remarkable congregation
that man was created first alone. The animals were created, men
and women, let's say. But Adam was created first alone. And he gave the animals names
according to their nature. He had the wisdom of God. But
he was all by himself. Why? Why did God first create
man all by himself? Well, for this purpose. He was created in the image and
glory of God. Two aspects. The first is, God
was his glory, his life and his light. Image is a relation expression. God had relation, spiritual,
with Adam. Adam saw God as his glory, life,
and majesty. Therefore John says, in him was
the life for the light and the life. Adam didn't live for himself,
he lived unto God. That was his life. That's our
purpose, to live unto God. Therefore, Augustine says you
can never have any rest until you have rest in God. Well, what does the duty of Adam? Well, not only his image, also
his glory. He was the representative of
God in creation. He was blessed with the glory
of God, the Doxa. God made him a representative
in the world, therefore he had to replenish the earth, to fill
the earth. He had to deal with the animals.
He had to deal with the land. And we believe this, and I'm
not explaining it widely, but we believe this is a priestly
office. Culture comes from cultus, and
it's priestly in depth. You must be a priest in the service
of God. toiling the earth, not in sweat. Because why? Why not in sweat?
There were no briars, there were no pickles, there were no thorns
and distals. It was a joy to subdue the earth,
to rule the fowls of the air, the animals, in love and peace. and to replenish the earth, to
fill the earth with mankind. God didn't start to create a
thousand trees. He started to create a thousand
trees. Way more, Pastor, way more. But
only one man, one blood. And I said already why. But out
of that one man, one blood, the whole mankind would proceed. He is the head of the covenant
of nature, the covenant of works, some say. I'm saying better the
covenant of being. He was in Adam. And what did God do? When he
saw that it was no good for Adam to be alone, He couldn't even
replenish the earth, God made him a deep sleep, a tardemah. It's the same deep sleep that
Jonah had when he was in the ship down. It was a sleep that
was put upon him. And God took one of his ribs.
We don't know what and how, I don't need to know it. But he made
out of that rib, closed the place, made out of the rib a woman.
Now the man is an ish and the woman is an isha. A female ish. The man is an ish, a man, a person. And an isha is a female ish. God made Naged on the same height
and level, not less, but she had an order. She was a helpmeet. For what? To govern the earth,
to glorify God first, govern the earth, and replenish the
earth with people. Listen, a woman is no less than
a man, neget, same level. The Bible always says, in hedonism
it's not. In hedonism, a woman is, even
in Africa sometimes, they have said that women have no soul,
fools they are. But in the Bible, a woman is
neget, the same height, the same being. But there is
an order. God made the man head of the
woman. And listen, not the boss, not the judge, but the head. And here in Greek
it said the kephala, this. Now the head cares for the body,
isn't it? Protects it, thinks for it, loves it, So already in paradise, the man
is the head of the woman. Not to be bossy, but to serve,
to love, to protect, and to keep. But the woman is subservient. God made an order. God is a God
of order. Now I know when I'm preaching
this, I have the tithe of the age against me. But I shouldn't
fear, because the devil always wants to ruin everything. Families,
churches, we should just obey his word and you'll see God will
give peace there. So there is an order in the family. The man is the head and the woman
is the body. Secondly, I want to speak about,
and God gave the woman to the man, that's marriage. That they
would be one, copulation, and I leave it with one word, but
in copulation, man is not one with his woman. How is man one
with his woman? In what? In the children. The children have man, have woman. The oneness of a marriage is
in the children. Divorce rents children apart. So the oneness is always seen
in the children. When I got a grandchild, my family
says it looked like father. And the family of my wife sometimes
says it looks like his mother. I know, but both, eh? There is
oneness in our children. The unity of a marriage is found
in the children. And therefore God created the
body of a woman and the body of a man. Now the body of a man
is not prepared for the body of another man. Idolatry! Used against nature, says Paul.
And the body of a man is not used for the body of himself.
Sinful desires, selfish. Insane. But the body of a man
is made for the body of a woman, no. The Bible says it different. Okay, yeah, right. The body of
a woman is made for the body of a man. Isn't it? Isn't it? The head and the body. But there
is some special thing in it. God said replenish the earth. Extend the number. Fill the earth. And now the body of a woman,
like God created her, is not only prepared and made for a
man, but also for the children, to feed them, to bear them, to
bring them forth. Wonderful, eh? God created man
and a woman for a man and a woman for the children that they might
replenish the earth. That's always the position of
a mother. She's always between the husband and the children. You see it? But listen, mothers. Your husband is the head, and
you're the body. That's the order. Now the devil
wants to change it. He is called the Diabolos. Do
you know what Diabolos means? He always runs it different,
turns it around. And what does the devil say?
He says, You're the same. Emancipation. There is no order. You're equal. There is no rule of the husband
over his wife. Do you know what I've seen? Women
out of their houses, working in factories as slaves. Children
with snot noses, walking across the street, going for the television
until mom comes back. Poor slavery of the devil! In a Christian family, a woman
is a queen. And man in our midst, you should
care for your women to be a queen. Care for her. that she might
serve you with love and peace and her children. Yeah, but we need, I'm not going
into details, I know it. We need a mortgage. Oh, yeah. Why do you need to
buy out then if you can't afford a mortgage? Yeah, but my wife
has to work. How do you know? Did you say
to the Lord, my wife has to work because I can't provide? Try
it. God has said she should be ecclesiastic. Proverbs 31, she should be at
home caring for the children. The man toiling in the sweat
of his face and the women caring for the children. Now, Paul goes on, he says, God
created the man, and I've started already, in the image and the
glory, I've said and explained it. But he says, then he created
the woman out of Adam. All she had was Adam. She looked like him, I believe. All she was, was Adam. And I'm
going further now, but not applying it. All you have is Adam. Yeah, but we differ. That's another
thing. God makes differences. But we
are all Adam. Because Eve was made of Adam. And she had everything of Adam.
Therefore, Paul says she was made in the image of man. Adam
was made in the image of God and the woman was made in the
image of her husband. And therefore Paul says the woman
has to cover her head in exousia by a veil, by a veil, to show
that she was subservient to Adam. Now that's what the Bible says.
Yeah, I don't believe it. That's up to you. Not up to you,
but you'll find out that's truth. She has to have an exousia. An
exousia means power. She has to acknowledge that she
is subservient, servicing her husband and the children. Not ruling. I know I have the time and the
tide against me. We live in a time and age we
want to rule both. And I'm not saying a man rules
always right, and I know I did many times wrong. But if I have
my discussion with young people to marry, I always say, if you
have different views and you can't come to one, what happens? And some of the girls said to
me, my desire. I said, no, no, no, no, no, no.
His desire. And when he's wrong, then pastor,
after 14 days, you can say, husband, sorry, you're wrong. But we carry
the solution and the consequence for your dad. God wants to ruin
the family by descent. Therefore, family never goes
to sleep before you have made peace together. The devil always
wants to make dissent. Ah, my poor husband. He is so
nasty. He always rules with an iron
fist. I would do it better. I know
it. But it's your husband. And a
soft answer changed the attitude. If I look to the life of Sarah, I can't understand. What happened? Well, Abram said,
it's my sister. What a liar. Child of God. He says, yeah, dear, I'll tell
you, you're my sister, unless they will kill me if you're my
wife. Wonderful, and God cared for
Sarah. He made known, she was taken
from the house and he made known to the Pharaoh and even a time
earlier that she was the wife of Abram and he protected her. If you're a child of God, you're
under the protection, women of God. But what a grace to surrender
to the Word of God. So a marriage is not between
two men and not between two women. That's heresy. That's public sin. That's apostasy,
according to the scriptures. And how can we deal with it in
churches? Therefore, we had in the Netherlands to leave the
Dutch Reformed Church. No, not leave, but not go along
with the new book of church order, wherein 2.5 is said, that a marriage
is not solely a marriage between men and women. We couldn't be
there. Not that we are better, but it
was against my conscience. And if you sin against your conscience,
you lose all peace and prosperity in the kingdom of God. So we
are here, HHK, as a church who couldn't surrender
to the desires of the PKN, of which some of my friends are
still in. And I don't know why, but God will deal with them. I spoke to a pastor, my old friend,
the Reverend Budding. He said, last year, I could preach
in 28 congregations. Today, I can only preach in five. It's narrowing. I didn't say
why. God does. But if we lose the
favor of God concerning this matter, there was even a liberal
theologian, he said, if a church accepts this, it's an apostate
church. It's an apostate church. and God will leave it in due
time. You see it in the United Church
in Canada. Listen, listen, I'm not judging, and I'm not saying
I'm better, I'm not. I'm a sinner from top to bottom,
but by grace I am what I am, and I can surrender to these
things. Even if I had to lose everything, let me lose everything,
for the glory of God and the truth of creation. Congregation,
be on your guard. Be on your guard. Even if it
means suffering. And I've last week preached about
it. And I believe there comes a suffering over the whole world. But if you may walk by grace
in the ways of the Lord, God will take care of you. In the caves, or where it might
be, He will take care of you. Don't surrender. But when I have said this, Pastor, look to yourself. Are you sinless? Have you sinful desires? Are you fighting them? Yes. Are
you losing it sometimes? But now I come to the second
thought. Paul started, he says, I would have you to know that
the head of every man is Christ. Now Christ not as a second person
of the Trinity only, but Christ who was God and became man, the
husband of his wife. I am in him, perfect. He is my head. He is my substitute. He was without sin. I read this
morning Psalm 192 again. Do you read it every Sunday morning? Probably you do. That's the Psalm
on the Saturday. Knowing my God is a rock and
in Him is no unrighteousness. Do you know what it means? In
the church is no unrighteousness. In Christ We are brought back
after fall into the image of God. He is the image of God. And by faith in Him, you're back
in the image of God, the man and the woman. For there is no
difference, says Paul, between men and women. Are you? Are you married to the Lord Jesus?
Is He your head? Your substitute? May I ask you, you might have
a good wedding, a good marriage, you might have a broken marriage,
you might have an idolater in your wedding since. But I tell you, there was a woman
who had five women, five men, and the man with which he lived She was not married to her, but she was the bride of Jesus. Pastor, yes, there is hope for
homosexuals. They might be of the bride of
Jesus. And lesbians, and those who have
broken marriages, And if you look to a woman to
desire her, you're already sinned against the seventh commandment.
And I say it again. I had an elder in the Netherlands,
and he said, Pastor, one thing I never was an adulterer. I said, you're a liar. He said,
a liar? Yes. He says, the Lord Jesus
says the law is spiritual. and your carnal souls enter sin.
If you ever have looked to a woman to desire her, you're an adulterer." He put his head down and went.
Fourteen days later, he came, and he knocked at my shoulder,
and he said, pastor, and cried. I said, I was an adulterer since
700 times. But is there mercy for me? And the older you get, the worse
it will be. I have scriptural proof of it. Is Christ your head? To cover
you? To protect you? Has he been made
your head? Are you in a marriage with Christ? Huh? Is that your husband? And they say, pastor stop. No, no, no, no. Is he your spiritual husband?
And you're black. That husband shed his blood to
wash you. Took his clothes to be naked
to cover you with his righteousness. Hey, if you know Him, why shouldn't
you obey Him? And women, long hair is a glory,
says the Bible. But your long hair should be
covered with a veil. Now we have all kinds of chapeaus.
And when it's Easter, we all buy a new one so that your business
is going good. But the Bible says avail to cover
your long hair as a sign that your husband is
your aunt. And if you don't do it, it's
a revolution against the scriptures. Yeah, but the Bible says the
long hair is a covering. No, that's another word. Long
hair is a glory of the woman. Long hair, ah, I want to sing
first and then I continue. 2.13.1 through 3. 2.13.1 through
3. where we will sing together,
2.13, one through three. My people give ear, attend to
my word, and what's following. Come to me, come to me, come
to me. The nation's rivers run dry. from the heav'nly skies. Let me make it plain. Have you seen a woman of the
Muslims covered with it, you think it's attractive? It's not attractive. They mock
with it even. But the glory of a woman is, their attractiveness is in her
hair, principally. I've seen sometimes women of
Muslims taken off their, at home they do. They're not covered
at home. I'm not given an example of the
Muslims, but just an example to show you the difference. But
when the cover is from their head, they're attractive by their
hair. Hair is a sexual attractiveness for women. Really believe what I'm saying. And therefore, the woman is created
for the glory of her man, not for her own glory. Not to be
attractive for other man. She is the glory of her man,
her husband. He should be her glory. She shouldn't bring all the attention
to herself. You have of that women, they
are just married and they look as they have never been married. They are full of courage again,
showing their bodies to everyone around. No! Your glory should be your husband.
And you shouldn't be in the center. You should honor and serve him,
says. You have answered the questions
in the forum, isn't it? That's God's ways, not my ways. Some have said, yeah, that's
the supremacy of man. No, it's the order with God gifts
in the world. And therefore a woman may have
long hair for her husband, but when in the open, and now I'm
coming to the congregation, the congregation, the worship in
the congregation is expressed by two words, praying and prophesying. What's the whole congregation
about? Praying, asking from God what he has to say to you, that's
praying. And preaching is God speaks to
you. So it's praying. There was an old pastor in the
Netherlands, Smietegeld. He would never answer a question
during the week. Pastor, how is this and how is
that? He says, oh, I'm not telling you. Come to the service on Lord's
Day and God will tell you. I know, now I know this, now
I speak to the children of God. Sometimes when God makes you
pray, he answers you on the Lord's Day, isn't it? By the preaching of his So it's an expression of the
worship service in the Christian community, in the synagogue,
in the ecclesia, and in the ecclesia is praying and prophesying. Prophesying is preaching the
word, not prophesying the future and on. Prophesying is preaching
the word. So the whole service in the Christian
congregation is praying, asking, and receiving an answer by the
Word of God. And I know what is hidden in
your prayers will be manifest on the streets. God will answer
you. And I know, I don't know if He
answers you today, sometimes you have to wait a month or a
year. But He will answer you in the way of preaching. Faith
is by preaching of the Word. So if you have questions, come
to the service. If you don't have questions,
you know it all, stay home. I have a lot of people, they
know it all. Now better stay home then, because you know it
always better. What are you doing here? You
know it better than God knows. No, you're not teachable. Do
you know who is teachable? Who doesn't know a lot, who is
a child. They are teachable, the poor
and the beggars, the fools. And I think when God starts to
work in your soul, you start to be a fool. Oh God, make known
thy ways unto me. And the more you know of him,
the more you ask for it. But I know for myself. that God
has answered me several times in the ways of preaching. And
then I sat on my chair in the church all by myself, and I heard
his voice, and I knew that he was speaking to me. Also, the
minister was vanishing. It doesn't matter which minister,
but if God speaks and he uses a means, you hear the voice of
the shepherd. And he teaches you. So the whole
ministry in the New Testament church is by praying, asking
all your needs. To man, no. To God. May I not ask advice? Be careful. There are many advisors, but
God knows. Ask and wait for him. The one says this. Why do you
say it? Well, when, and it's two times
in this church, in this portion. Now, but pastor, a woman pray
and prophesy. Listen, in 14 it said, in the
same chapter, in the same book I mean, in the same letter, that
a woman shouldn't prophesy. So it doesn't mean that a woman
prophesies. It's an expression of prayer
and prophesying, that's the ministry in the church on the Lord's day,
two times. It's an expression of the ministry of the preaching
of the congregation. For the woman shouldn't prophesy,
she should be silent. Oh pastor! And let her husband teach her
at home. I had an old pastor, Dominic
Tucker. He said, oh, I had such a girl,
a woman in the church again. I said, what? He says, always
fighting with me. And I felt, I find myself more
or less angry, and it's no good. But do you know what I said to
her? Ask your husband to come together. But she never came
with her husband. He said, your husband should
bring these things to me and teach you at home. Ho, ho, ho,
ho. Now you're bringing us back to
the Middle Ages. No, revolution has taken part
of you, more than you want to know. And the revolution doesn't
start in the state. The revolution
starts in the family. Yeah, but my husband is nasty. Oh, yeah. You're not. You're not. Yeah, but he thinks
he knows all. Oh, yeah. You know better then.
Oh, yeah. Yeah. God knows better. And if he is a bit nasty, tell
it to the Lord. Women, good man, love your wife
as your own bodies. Care. Have compassion. Love them. That's marriage. Yeah, but she
is always, shhh. Love them. Care for them. Have
compassion. And if you love her, She'll know it. And love can't you fight? Against
love you can't fight against love. My children have fought
against my love and I told you, let me bring it back again. Some
never heard it. They had to be at home just tipped
in time and they didn't. I took them at their ears and
didn't want to follow me. Then I put them in my arms and
they started to meet. Do you know what I did? On my
best times, I didn't do it always, but my best times and my best
opportunities, do you know what I did? I kissed them on both
their cheeks as long as they fought me. He said, Miner, come here. Miner, come here. And ultimately,
his hands fell alongside his body. And I can tell you, and
then his hands grabbed my neck and he kissed me too. Love, you
can't fight love. You will lose it. Being me mad,
sure. That's the ultimate desire of
the devil. But it's hard to fight love.
And I can't fight love of God. I lost it. I was condemned by
it. I was hell's worthy by it. And I fought him, and he kissed
me. When the prodigal came home, I believe, when the prodigal
came home, I believe, he thought, it's my last hour. No, the father
kissed him where he could, embraced him, and said, I am finally home. I go back to the scriptures.
So the second reason, so long hair is the glory of a woman,
and she needs to be covered. And if she is not covered, says
the Bible, you should shave her hair. If she has no veil, shave
her long hair. That's the Bible here. And who
has to be shaved? What does it mean for a woman
to have a shaved head? That's a sign of an adulteress. Daughters have shaved heads, long hair. As a man shouldn't
have long hair, that's womanized. But a wife, a woman should have
long hair, but covered in the congregation. For the angels,
now some have said the angels were young men, to ask another
for a wedding, for marriage. Let's say John the Baptist was
an angel. He asked the people to be married
to Christ, isn't it? The friend of the bridegroom,
an angel. Now, the women in the church
shouldn't be attractive for other men in church. they should cover
their head. And if they don't, they should
just cut their hair and be an adulterer or an adulteress. That's
what the Bible says. So there are two reasons in the
presence of God, in the congregation, to cover your head. First, Adam
is created first, and the woman should be covered. But the second
reason in the congregation is this. that the glory of the woman
should be covered in the congregation. We should, as women, not be attractive
for other men. Yeah, pastor, now you're making
it difficult. So it has to do not only with
your long hair, it has to do also with your clothes. You shouldn't be in church half
naked. You shouldn't be in church attractive
for men and women. The other way around too. It goes for Christ is the head
of the man and God is the head of Christ. It goes for his glory. Not for attractiveness of women,
but for attractiveness of God in Christ. That's all about.
So the women should cover themselves. from all their attractiveness,
that the glory of God in Christ might be shining upon the congregation. Pastor, I don't believe it doesn't
matter. Yeah, it matters. But God will judge you when I
delivered the Word of God unto you. And you'll see it. And we
live in a time and age that you, sometimes at weddings
even, have half-naked brides, and they shouldn't, or uncovered
women around, they shouldn't. It should be going in the world
and in the church all by the instruction of God and the glory
of Christ. Now I come to the last, and I
dealt already with it, Are you an adulterer? I am. A thousand times. My eyes are wrong, and my heart
is sinful. But I don't wonder when I had
to condemn myself because of it. He took me as his own. And he covered me with his cloth and washed me with his blood.
He is my husband and I'm his wife, black and beauty. Shouldn't I obey his word? Should that be difficult to me?
Shouldn't be my desire to live according to his will, my love
and peace? Oh, woman, seems like I just
addressed you. No, that's wrong. Women, but
also men, are you loving your wives? Caring? Your own money? Not always pushing? And helping is a big family.
I know you do. And I didn't always. When you're
a pastor, I was busy in all my life. I went to all the congregations
in the Netherlands back then, especially my last sermon in
Stafford was two days, two sermons. I remember that I had no time
to eat, no time to drink, no time to sleep. Two times a week, a burial. 800 catechism, young people. Ah,
pastor, you shouldn't complain. No, I'm not. But my wife had
to carry a lot. And it was hard for her. I should have protected her more, although I tried always. But if love is raining, By the
grace of God, and now listen what I'm saying, it's not natural
love. Natural love vanished in the fall. Natural love is self-love. But the love of God is the agape,
and the agape serves and ministers. For God so loved the world that
he gave his only begotten son to be the bridegroom of a black
bride. to wash her, to cover her, to
teach her, to direct her home. And when he was raised out of
the grave, he says, in my father's house are many mansions. I'm
preparing a place for you. That great wedding of the Lamb
of God, will you be there? Will that be your ultimate and
most important thing in your life? to be at the meal of the
Lord Jesus at the Lamb's Passion at that
great day and when I would have the least of all places I would
be satisfied I would be very satisfied if God would give me
the least of all places and I know the Lord Jesus will be there
He will be on the lowest part, not on the high end. For His
people surrenders misery, gets righteousness, surrenders selfishness,
gets eternal life, surrenders self-righteousness, and is covered
with the obedience of Christ by His blood. and obedience to
the law. And in him, I receive back the
image and the glory of God. I am a new creature, as if I
had never sinned nor done any evil. So the head of the man
is Christ, and the man is the head of the woman. Now in, they
are both one. There is no difference. Christ, your head, women, your
husband, covering you, caring for you. Is he asking you home in due
time? Are you both belonging to the bride of Jesus? No. Some people say, I don't know
exactly. I know when I was married. Do
you know when you were married? We have a kind of religion today,
they say you can be married to Christ and not knowing it. Nonsense! Nonsense! If you're married to Christ,
you will know of your merits by faith. You will know who is
your husband. It might be attacked. You might
be afflicted of it. But I know when I'm married,
I hope next year of the Lord's leaving me in life this time,
this life, to be 50 years married. I know it as the day of yesterday,
that glorious day, when I was with my wife, being loved and
loved her. And Christ was the first, the
husband of a sinner. As we were a congregation, are
you married to Jesus by the grace of God? Tell me. By faith and
righteousness, says the Bible. And the head of a man is Christ,
and the head of the woman is the man. So both, eh? And the head of Christ is God. And everything will be in new
life to the glory of God. I'm speaking to young people.
Young people, ask the wife of the Lord, boys. And if you're
not married, I have to address those who are not married. I've said that Adam was first
created all by himself. And your life is not in vain
if you're not married. You have one purpose, to glorify
God, to love Him, to live for Him. And God will give you a family,
a spiritual family, brothers and sisters, children,
a father, And a spiritual husband, Jesus Christ. Man, some of you
are not married. I don't know why, God knows.
But it might be difficult to you. But your life wouldn't be
in vain. It's a sinner covered by the
Lord Jesus. Young people, ask the Lord for a husband or
a wife. Don't look to long hair and beauty
appearance. It might delude you. For the treasure of a true woman
is her inner treasure, peace and love. I know Jacob liked
Rachel, long hair, beauty, But he was buried with Leah,
for God gave him Leah. And then Rachel, first Leah. And Judah was from? Leah. Christ. The husband of the wife. Congregation. Oh, compassion. I need and you need. Yeah, but
Pastor, I've cared and found not one for me. I don't know
the purpose of your life, but the purpose should be, and I'm
coming back, and the head of the man, woman is man, and the
head of the man is Christ, and the head of Christ is God, that
he be your head, your ruler. your governor, your glory, your
majesty, your love, your peace, everlastingly. Congregation, I'm a black yet desired bride
of Jesus. May we all be For Jesus' sake
I pray. Amen. Let's pray. Lord, we thank
Thee for coming together. It might be against the tide
even in the congregation while preaching. It might be hindering
some. But Lord, let us surrender against
the will of the world to Thy will. Against the testimony of
sin and the devil. to surrender also in our church,
that the man is the head and therefore the woman should cover,
not glory themselves and be attractive. And the head of the man is Christ,
that Christ might be attractive, and in Christ God might have
the glory. Remember us this day. Forgive
us our sins, remember the sick and afflicted, and give us to
be a testimony. Give man to testify these things
to the world today. The world and the church, the
world is busy, the church is silent. Oh God, give repentance
and no fear, but exclaim thy glory. In a little church we
have seen last week, thou hast taken care of my words, and I
will take care of thee in the hour of trials which come. Lord, remember us all, and give
us families that fear thee, and children that are dying. We ask it in Jesus' name. Amen.
