Hello there friends, I am Pastor Calvin with Christian Liberty Academy School System. Welcome to There's No Place Like Home. Today we continue with the subject of why we should study the Bible. The main reason that I presented last week is that we believe the Bible, Holy Scripture, is not just the Word of man. It is the God-breathed, the inspired Word of God. If this is the case, and this is clearly what the Bible says about itself, then many other reasons flow from this. Let me give just a few additional reasons. First, God commands us to know His Word. Now, Timothy was not in the same position as every believer is today, but certainly we can learn from what Paul commanded him. We read in 2 Timothy 2.15, be diligent, or the old King James study, to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. We have to understand the scriptures. A few other reasons can be given. Psalm 119 verse 18, open my eyes that I may see wondrous things from your law. And 1 Peter 2 and verse 2, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word that you may grow thereby. We might ask a follow-up question. Why does God want us to study his word? Certainly, just knowing the Word of God does not mean salvation. After all, there were scribes and Pharisees who knew the Scriptures, but they rejected Jesus Christ. Well, God wants us to study so that we see our need of salvation, and we also then realize what He expects of us, so that we better appreciate how God does work in time. To summarize then, we study so that we can appreciate our place in God's grand plan of redemption. No, the Bible is not just about you and me. God's work is much bigger than just us, but we don't want to forget what God commands us. We also study not just to learn more facts, but to be reminded of what an awesome, what a faithful God we serve. For we know we can be slow in recognizing God's goodness in power. It is especially in the Word of God that we are brought to a point of humility and praise for our great God, so that we say, may his name always be praised. For Christian Liberty Academy School System, I am Pastor Calvin Lindstrom. See you next week, Lord willing. May God bless.
