Hello there friends, I am Pastor Calvin Lindstrom with Christian Liberty Academy School System. Welcome to There's No Place Like Home. Today we consider the subject of Why Do We Study Scripture? Why is it that we should pour our lives into the study, the reading and study of God's Word? Many people do not like instruction manuals. You pick up your product at the store and you don't read the instruction manual. You just open the box, you figure it out on your own. And many people tend to think that's what the Bible is. It's just an instruction manual. I really don't need it, especially one so old and so outdated. So, I want to give several reasons why we should study God's Word. Now, hopefully, as Christians, we don't have the view of just the world, that this is just an outdated book, but we do face challenges. You're reading the book of Leviticus, or you're reading the very long book of Jeremiah, or the book of Isaiah, and it's easy to get bogged down. Why is it that we should seek to read and to understand. Well, I want to share one main reason today. We'll look at some others next week, but here's the main reason. What is it that we believe about Scripture? It's not simply a reflection of the past. It's not simply interesting stories, moral stories, but we believe what? It is the God-breathed Word of God. It is the God-breathed Word of God to His people. And if we are of His people, then we have to receive this. It is our duty to receive it. Now, it doesn't mean it's always easy. It doesn't mean that every passage is going to be immediately relevant to what I'm facing that particular day. But since Scripture is the God-breathed Word of God, if we humble ourselves and receive it, then we can say, every part of Scripture. points both to Christ or fulfilled in Christ and it has some relevance for my life. And I must humble myself before the Lord to receive that. I think sometimes it is a pride that keeps us from scripture. We think too highly of ourselves and in our ignorance, we don't always want to receive the truth. And so we have to fight against our own pride. We have to fight against our own ignorance and receive the word. Now, two great passages, and we don't have the time, obviously, to consider them in fullness, but Psalm 119, what a beautiful testimony to the Word of God. Just about every verse out of 176 verses speaks of the importance of God's truth, the beauty of God's truth. Oh, that we had that attitude as we approached God's Word. And then, of course, the very important passage, 2 Timothy 3, 16 and 17, where Paul speaks, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. That could be translated and probably better translated as, All Scripture is God-breathed. It is the breath of God as it were. Now, we know that scripture was written by men, but it is the God-breathed Word of God so that men wrote what God wanted to communicate to us. That is why we should receive. That is why we should study. That's why we should teach our children God's Word. For Christian Liberty Academy School System, I am Pastor Calvin Lindstrom. We'll see you next week. Lord willing, may God bless.
