René Descartes

René Descartes was considered by most historians the first of the Enlightenment thinkers whose main goal was to prove the existence of God with the same level of certainty as mathematical equations. However, Descartes' mistake was in saying that one must start to prove one's own existence. But that's getting the cart before the horse. Our existence is derived from God's existence.
