I want to talk about, this morning I want to talk about the 64th chapter of Isaiah. In the 6th verse of the 64th chapter of Isaiah it says, we are all as an unclean thing and all our righteousness are as filthy rags. And we all do fate as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags. And we all do fate as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. There's another scripture that says there's none righteous, but know not one. None righteous, but know not one. Well, let's just read through this 64th chapter of Isaiah. Oh, that thou wouldst rend the heavens, and thou wouldst come down, and the mountains might flow down at thy presence. As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causes the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence. When thou didst terrible things which we look not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence. For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither had the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him. For if thou art righteous, those that remember thee in thy ways, behold, thou art wroth. For we have sinned in those as continuance, in those as continuance, and we should be saved. Here's our verse. But we are as all as unclean thing, and all our righteousness are like as filthy rags. And we all do fade as a leaf, and our iniquities like the wind have taken us away. And there is none that calleth upon thy name. that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee. For thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us because of our iniquities, O Lord, but now, Lord, thou art our Father. We are the clay, and thou art our potter, and we are all the work of thy hand. Be not wroth, very sore, O Lord, neither remember iniquity forever. Behold, see, we beseech Thee, we are all Thy people. The holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised Thee, is burned up with fire, and all our pleasant things are laid waste. Wilt thou refrain thyself from these things, O Lord? Wilt thou hold thy peace and afflict us very sore? Well, you know, if we were honest, we would all have to say, that's talking about me. That's talking about me. A song that says my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name. How can we trust in filthy rags? Have you ever had some rags in your workshop and they were so filthy that you just threw them in the trash? They were not salvageable. That was us. But he goes on and says, Lord, thou art our father, we are the clay, thou our potter, and we are the work of thy hand. When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in Christ be found, dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before thy throne. He says here, there is none that calleth upon thy name that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee. For thou hast hid thy face from us and has consumed us because of our iniquities. David said, behold, I was born in sin and my mother conceived me. Apart from God, granting us sovereign grace. There is no hope. Apart from Him dying on the cruel and rugged cross for us, for our sins, we have no hope. He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray. We've turned everyone to his own way, but the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Well, you know, we all want to be accepted. We all want to get likes on Facebook. We all want to have the acceptance of men, don't we? The only way we can be accepted in the Beloved is through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Because there's no righteousness in us. And told in Ephesians 2.8, for by grace are ye saved through faith. not of works, lest any man should boast. It's a gift of God. We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags. There's a song that says sometimes I get discouraged. I think my work in vain causes me to murmur and of my lot complain. But then I think of Jesus and all he's done for me and I cry a rock of ages high down me. Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee. Let the water and the blood from my wounded side which flow be of sin a double cure, save from wrath. And make me sure, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee. The only way we can have confidence and assurance is through the faith of Christ. The faith that Christ has instilled within us. He's the author and finisher of our faith. Andre Crouch sang that song, when trouble is in my way and I can't tell my night from day. When I'm tossed from side to side like a ship on the raging tide. I don't worry, I don't fret. God has never failed me yet. Troubles come from time to time, but that's alright. I'm not the worrying kind because I've got confidence. God is gonna see me through. No matter what the case may be, I know He's gonna fix it for me. When Job was so alone and flesh fell from his bones, his wife, his cattle, his children, everything that he had was gone. Job in his despair, he knew that God still cared. Sleepless days and sleepless nights, but Job said, that's all right, because I've got confidence God is gonna see me through. Our only hope, our only confidence, our only assurance can be in the completed work of Christ. There's a song that says, I can't even walk without Him holding my hand. We all have experiences in life that cause us to get discouraged at times. And we say, why me, oh Lord? Poor little old me. But underneath us are the everlasting arms of God. What have I to dread? What have I to fear? Leaning on the everlasting arms. You know? Learning to lean. Learning to lean. Well, that's kind of what's on my mind this morning is that we're all... There's nothing good in the creature. Man can't do anything because he's totally depraved. He's dead in his trespasses and sin, and apart from the grace of God, there is no hope of salvation. May the good Lord grant unto us faith of Christ to trust in his finished work today, as my prayer to God was.
