If you have your Bibles, please
turn in them to 2 Timothy chapter 4. I'm going to preach on perilous
times shall come. The Apostle Paul is writing the
last letter that he would write before the Roman government cuts
his head off. And in 2 Timothy chapter 4, starting
in verse 1, we read, I charge thee therefore before God and
the Lord Jesus, who shall judge the quick and the dead at His
appearing and His kingdom, preach the word, be instant, in season,
out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering
and doctrine, for the time will come when they will not endure
sound doctrine, But after their own lust shall they heap to themselves
teachers having itching ears, and they shall turn away their
ears from the truth and shall turn on to fables. But watch
thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist,
make full proof of thy ministry." Let's pray. Lord, we thank you
for your word and we thank you that it's fact We thank you that
we can look around us and see what you said would come is happening. But Lord, it's a fearful world
we live in, and I just pray that you'd help us as we Look into
your word today that you'd encourage us, that you'd challenge us,
that we would be better Christians because we met this morning.
In your name we pray. Amen. Again, in verse three here,
it says the time will come. By inspiration, God says that
there will come a time in the history of His church when sound
doctrine will not be endured. Again, verse 3, it says, for
the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine,
but after their own lusts shall heap to themselves teachers having
itching ears. and they shall turn away their
ears from the truth and shall be turned unto fables." We have
to understand the age that we live in. In chapter 3, verse
1, it says, This know also that in the last days perilous times
shall come. And then there's a long list
of things that characterize those last days. And if we look around
us, we see we're living in those days today. As we move then from
chapter three to chapter four, God's telling us that in these
perilous times, They'll not endure sound doctrine. They'll literally
heap to themselves teachers having itching ears. In other words,
they want to listen to people who they agree with or they agree
with them. They want to hear what they want
to hear, not what God wants us to hear. Now, we face a great
temptation today because people have become so prejudiced against
God. And so prejudice and isn't it
sad that this one once Christian nation is prejudice against the
Bible. It's prejudice against his church. We face a temptation to compromise
and give the people what they want instead of giving the people
what God says. to make our preaching and teaching
popular instead of powerful. But if we yield to these temptations
to be popular, we can give up all hope of being powerful. It's not our responsibility to
make the Bible acceptable, but to make the Bible available. And we've got to remember this
in these days. We have had people through the
years think we're too hard, too harsh. We've got to be a little
more political, like the Republican Party, and just give up everything
we believe. Turn to 1 Peter, chapter 2. The people need to hear the truth
and have an opportunity to respond to it. Now, this is not a hot
sermon, but I hope you'll listen to it because I think the ideas
are very important. I'll make that statement again. The people need to hear the truth
and have the opportunity to respond to it. That's what our job is. The position we take with scripture
is not popular. Never has been. In 1 Peter 2,
verses 7 and 8, Peter says, unto you therefore which believe he
is precious. To us he's precious. But unto
them which are disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed,
the same is made the head of the corner. And a stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense, even to them which stumble at the word,
being disobedient, whereunto also they were appointed." To
us, He's precious. But to the world around us, and
I'm sure some that are sitting in the pews this morning, He
is a rock of offense. Turn to Romans, and I'm going
to ask you to Do a lot of turning this morning. They're offended
by him. They're offended by the gospel
that we preach. And in Romans chapter 9. Verse
33, it says, as it is written, behold, I lay in Zion. A stumbling block. And a rock
of offense and whosoever believeth on him, shall not be ashamed
of the temptation is to be ashamed of being saved. That's the temptation
today. That's why the apostle Paul said,
I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, but it is the power
of God. Now, this rock of offense is
the Lord Jesus Christ that we preach. The world hates it. Paul wrote to Timothy and said
not to be ashamed of what he had stood for. Now turn to John,
please. And we're going to read quite
a long scriptures more than once this morning. But when Jesus
was dealing with the disciples in the Gospel of John, the sixth
chapter, his preaching got hard. And in verse 60, we read, Many
therefore of his disciples, when they heard this, said, This is
a hard saying. Who can hear it? As our text
read, we would rather have teachers tickling our ears. We want something
popular. especially in the day that we
live in today. We have had younger people, younger
adults by the dozens and maybe the hundreds leave our church
because they wanted something more acceptable. They wanted
music that had more of a beat. They wanted preaching that wasn't
offensive. But I want to read John 6, 60
down to 69. Many, therefore, of his disciples,
when they had heard this, said, This is a hard saying. Who can
hear it? When Jesus knew it himself that
his disciples murmured at it, he said to them, Does this offend
you? What and if ye shall see the
Son of Man ascend up where he was before. It is the spirit
that quickeneth, the flesh profiteth nothing. The words that I speak
unto you, they are spirit and they are life. But there are
some of you that believe not. And again, that is the problem,
if you want to call it that, in our church and fundamental
churches today. People want things to be more
acceptable. But there are some of you that
believe not. And I do believe many of them
will go to hell when they die. I don't know the heart, but I'm
saying people don't want the pure gospel. They want to listen
to teachers tickle their ears. For Jesus knew from the beginning
who they were that believed not and should betray Him. And He
said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto Me
except that were given unto him of My Father. From that time
many of His disciples went back and walked no more with them."
Now, we haven't had anybody leave our church in recent times, but
more will. And when they do, let them go. People worry. They come in. It's Christmastime. I hadn't
planned to say this. I get sick at my stomach when
the rebels come back at Christmastime and some of you come over to
them and you say, I'm just being friendly. No, you're not. You're
showing you're in agreement with them. They hate everything we
believe in. And they do. They make me sick
when they come back. When your relatives that are
living for the devil come and visit you, because you're too soft to take
the stand you should, let them go to St. Patrick's. Now, I mean
that. I'm not talking about on stage.
I'm not talking about people that are on church. I'm not talking
about new Christians, but I'm talking about people that were
born in this church and were raised in this church and went
to our Christian school and then reject everything that they've
ever been taught. And they want to look around
and be haughty and talk about their rock and roll church. I
don't want to hear I'll do everything I can to reach the unsaved, whether
they listen to rock and roll or not, whether they drink whiskey
or not. Whatever they do, it doesn't
matter. I want to reach them. But I don't
want to be bothered by rebels. And it says here, from that time,
many of His disciples went back and walked no more with Him.
Then said Jesus unto the twelve, We also go away. Then Simon Peter
answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of
eternal life, and we believe and are sure that thou art that
Christ, the son of the living God. As our text read, We, when
I say we, Christians as a whole, would rather have teachers tickling
their ears. We want something popular. If you're a child of God, though,
I want you to understand that this world is no friend of Christ. And it won't be a friend of yours
if you're right with Him. It's as simple as that. Now,
the temptation is to make what we believe so acceptable that
it's no longer an offense. The big idea today is to market
the church and to use the principles that the world uses to sell its
wares. But if we ever stoop to make
visible results the goal of our ministry, you have already compromised
what you say you believe about the Bible. Now, let's turn to
1 Corinthians 1. 1 Corinthians 1, verses 17 and
18. For Christ sent me not to baptize
didn't mean he didn't believe in baptism and didn't baptize,
but he's comparing it. Christ didn't send me to baptize,
but to preach the gospel. Now, now get this. Sometime I've
heard people describe famous preachers by saying he could
be a senator if he wanted to be or he could be this or that.
I wouldn't step down to be a senator. It isn't. The Bible says it's
not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be
made of none effect. It's not how good we talk. It's not how smooth we are, for
the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness. They think we're fools. The town
of Chesterton, the county of Porter feel you're a fool for
coming to this church. To them that perish is foolishness,
but unto us which are saved, it's the power of God. And let me say, 2,000 years later,
it's still foolishness to the world. And as far as America,
we kind of had a reprieve. We were founded as a Christian
nation. I don't care what those nuts
in Washington say. We were founded on Christian
principles. Our schools were started to teach
people how to read the Bible. And so we've had a reprieve. But now that's over. It's the
end. We are fools. There is an offense
to it. And the more closely we're identified
to Jesus Christ and that bloody cross, the more reproach we bear. Get used to it. And as I've said,
the temptation is to avoid that reproach and compromise. But let's look on at verse 19,
2 Corinthians 1. Verse 19, For it is written,
I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to naught
the understanding of the prudent. I think he has destroyed the
wisdom of the wise in Washington. I tell you what, they are fools. Everything they do is wrong.
Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is
the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the
wisdom of this world? For after that, in the wisdom
of God, the world by wisdom knew not God." They're the wise guys,
but they laugh at the thought of God. It pleased God by the
foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. That's what
we need. What's happening right now? The
foolishness of preaching. For the Jews require a sign,
and the Greeks seek after wisdom. But we preach Christ crucified. Unto the Jews a stumbling block.
You get that term over and over again. Unto the Jews a stumbling
block. And unto the Greeks foolishness. But unto them which are called,
both Jews and Greeks, Christ, the power of God and the wisdom
of God, because the foolishness of God is wiser than men and
the weakness of God is stronger than men. Now, God has no foolishness
and God has no weakness. But if he could have his foolishness
would be wiser than man's and his weakness stronger than man. Verse 26 for you see your calling
brother and how that not many wise men after the flesh, not
many mighty, not many noble are called. Aren't you glad? I praise
God. that you don't have to be brilliant
to be called to serve God. But God hath chosen the foolish
things of the world to confound the wise, and God hath chosen
the weak things of the world to confound the things which
are mighty, and the base things of the world, don't you? He says,
oh, don't call me base, don't call me foolish. That's who God's
chosen. the base things of the world,
and the things which are despised hath God chosen, yea, the things
which are not, to bring to naught the things that are." God likes
to play games with these great, intelligent people. He likes
to have them laugh at us and have us, hey, we've got a pretty
good life, don't we, if we live for God. We can have good families,
can't we? We can have good finances, can't
we? We can have good friends, can't
we? We can have jobs and keep them, can't we? And I could list
so much more. And those that laugh at us normally
have none of that. That no flesh shall glory in
His presence. Don't think you're something.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom
and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, that according
as it is written, he that glorious let him glory in the Lord. And
I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech
or wisdom or declaring on to you the test of declaring on
to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know
anything among you save Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness
and in fear. You say the great Apostle Paul.
That's why he was great. If you guys have feel you're
called in the full time Christian service would understand he will
uplift. The humble and the proud is going
to knock down. And I was with you in weakness
and in fear and in months trembling. And my speech and my preaching
was not with enticing words of men's wisdom, but in demonstration
of the spirit and power that your faith should not stand in
the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Now, we need that
men and their ideas are always changing, but the message of
God never changes. We should preach what Paul preached. We should preach what Spurgeon
preached, what Torrey preached. My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness. And that's where we must stand. Let's never be ashamed of being
an old-time, sin-hating, devil-fighting people. Our message must always
be Christ-centered, sin-exposing, Holy Spirit-convicting, and life-changing. And there's no message that can
accomplish this other than the message of the Bible. Turn, please, back to 1 Peter
2. When you tell a man that he's
lost and he's going to burn in hell without Jesus, you cannot
help but offend him. Our position must always be clear. Now, some people foolishly say
of our church, you don't want to go there because they're different. I wonder what they think about
1 Peter Chapter 2, verse 9. But ye are a chosen generation,
a royal priesthood, a holy nation. And here it is, a peculiar people. That's what the town of Chesterton
and Michigan City and Gary and Valparaiso think of this church.
A peculiar people. that you should show forth the
praises of him who have called you out of darkness into his
marvelous light. Some, because we have standards,
call us legalistic, but if you know your Bible, you know that
legalism is trying to add works to salvation. Legalism says you
have to trust Christ as your Savior, but also be baptized.
Legalism says you trust Christ as your savior, but also partake
of the Lord's Supper. And those who call us legalists
usually scripturally are legalists themselves. Are we supposed to
live and look so much like the world? That you can't tell the
difference. Turn to Galatians one. That is the temptation, and it's
a great temptation. But if you live according to
the Bible, you can't expect to be popular with the world. Should we want to please God
or man? In Galatians 1, verse 10, it
says, For do I now persuade men or God? Or do I seek to please
men? For if I yet please men, should
I not be the servant of Christ? We should never try to be offensive. But if our position is scriptural
and offensive, we should never compromise to be accepted. Never. Turn to 1 Corinthians 3. If our disposition and our personality
is offensive, and some of you need to listen to this, you should
try to be more Christ-like. But don't change your Bible position. 1 Corinthians 3, starting in
verse 18, it says, Let no man deceive himself. If any man among
you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool
that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world
is foolishness with God, for it is written, he taketh the
wise in their own craftiness. And again, the Lord knoweth the
thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. Therefore, let no man
glory in men for all things are yours. So, where should we stand? In 1915, there is a series of
articles compiled and put into book form called The Fundamentals. At that time, right there at
the beginning, there were over three million copies given away. Now, the greatest Bible scholars
alive contributed. And from 1915 until now, many
people refer to themselves, including myself, as a fundamentalist.
Today, as far as the world is concerned, the term seems to
identify you with some Arab terrorist group. a doctor saying that to
me. I always thought, he said, I
thought fundamentalists were always terrorists. Fundamentalism nowadays is thought
of as some holy jihad or a group of half-witted people. And even
the university that I graduated from some years back renounced
the term. But in our way of thinking when
we say we're fundamentalist we're saying we believe in the fundamentals
of the faith. We believe the word of God. We're fundamental Bible believing
church. There are certain things that
this statement needs to be included. I remember Barbara Walter said
one time, isn't she a genius? Anyone who believes the Bible
is cultish. Isn't it something how movie
stars, so-called, and popular TV people, they're the brains,
you know, they're the ones that tell us who to vote for and so
forth. In reality, a cult is any religion
that includes anything outside the Bible and its beliefs. In
other words, if you believe the Bible but believe something else
like the Mormon Church, you're a cult. But we can't give in
to that pressure. When someone scoffingly says
that there are still people who believe the whole Bible, we should
be ready to say, yes, and I'm proud to be one of them. Don't
be afraid. People say you can't build a
church on this type of philosophy. And my answer to that is, don't
you know, we're not trying to build a church. If we just get
this straight, oh, we get excited if you have more on your bus
and we get excited if somebody gets saved, that's part of the
Great Commission. But we're not out to try to build
a church. That's where the church marketers
are. They think they've got to build
a church. But remember, when Peter made
the statement, thou art the Christ and Jesus replied, flesh and
blood have not revealed this to you, but by a father in heaven
and upon this rock. This confession that I'm the
Christ, I'll build my church and the gates of hell shall not
prevail against it. Now listen to me and get it real
clear in your head. He didn't say I will build your
church. He didn't say you will build
my church. He said I will build my church. The only way a church is built
is through Jesus Christ. And if we do what God wants us
to do and go after all the people and just obey the Lord, he'll
build the church. I'm convinced of that. I'm convinced
of that. We need to preach the word in
season, out of season. Sometime when the preacher is
preaching, you ought to think the lacquer is being baked on
the pews. If you can sit there when the
preacher preaches and fall asleep, take some information and go
your way, you're going to dwindle yourself. I'm not talking about
the church. You're going to dwindle down. to be nothing in your Christian
life. And that's what's wrong with
so many today. Oh, he's just a preacher. If
he is called of God, he's God's man preaching God's word. Now, let's let's look back at
our text in Second Timothy. We know the time will come and
has come when they'll not endure sound doctrine. We've got to
stir up our convictions and never compromise. And we start with
our stand on the inerrancy of the word of God. We believe that the Bible is
the word of God inspired and preserved So I can stand up here
and say, I believe I'm holding God's word. If you don't, you
have nothing. Again, the school that I went
to, the very first Bible class I had was New Testament survey. And they started teaching that
part of the Bible is not the Word of God. And in going to
Bible college, they made me doubt my salvation. And for two or
three years, I fought whether I believe if the Bible is not
the Word of God and you don't have the Word of God, you've
got nothing. If any Bible professor can say this is the Word of God
and this isn't, you've got nothing. And I'm a logical person. I'm
not a theologian, but I'm a logical person. And so when that learned
doctor said that, it just blew my mind. And I thought, I don't
have a Bible. If I don't have a Bible, then
I probably don't have a God. No, you do have a Bible. It is
inspired by God. It is preserved by God. And you
do have a God, and He loved us so much that He wrote us in His
Word, and we have it to live by. The Bible says of itself in 2 Timothy
3, 16, all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness. that the man of God may be perfect,
thoroughly furnished after all good works. I wouldn't give one
dime to a church that didn't totally believe in the inspiration
of the Bible. You say, how can you tell if
they do or they don't? It's when they start saying you
can use this version or that version. That's how you can tell. They don't hold it dear. It's
as simple as that. God promised to honor and to
bless his word, and we've got it to preach it. Churches today
think in order to be successful, you've got to have a McDonald's
in the foyer and jazzercise classes on Monday. No, success with God
means doing one simple thing. being obedient to preach and
believe His Word. That's success. Second, we must
believe we're going to meet Him someday. 2 Timothy 4, verse 1
says, I charge thee, therefore, before God and the Lord Jesus
Christ, who will judge the quick and the dead as His appearing
and His kingdom. Listen to that again. I charge
thee, therefore, before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall
judge the quick and the dead? That includes you and I. We're
not only going to meet him someday, we're going to stand accountable
to him. Men will not understand us. I don't expect men to understand
me. Men may question our motives
and men may question our ideas. But I'm not going to stand before
man. I'm not going to stand before
you. I'm going to stand before God. And we ought to live every
day like it's the last day of our life and we're going to meet
Him in the evening. I have no respect for a person
who calls himself a Christian and doesn't fear God more than
they fear man. We're going to meet Jesus someday,
and we need to settle that. You need to settle that. You
can play games with the youth pastor. You can play games with
the principal, and some of you do. You can play games with me. You can scheme and you can play,
but you can't fool God. That's what blows my mind, how
people say they believe God and they act like he's not around. We need to spread the gospel.
We need to run our buses. We need to raise our families.
We need to make our decisions with the knowledge that someday
we're going to stand face to face with Jesus Christ. And we're going to answer specifically
to him, not the pastor. I'm going to answer to him. You're
going to answer to him. Then we must, without compromise,
preach the Bible. 2 Timothy 4, 1 and 2 is a preacher's
verse. I charge you therefore before
God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the quick and
the dead at his appearing and his kingdom." Preach the Word. That's what I'm supposed to do.
Preach the Word in season, out of season, whether it's popular
or it's not popular. Reprove. Say, oh, you're too
hard. Reprove. Rebuke. Exhort with
all longsuffering and doctrine. Those are not pretty words. It's out of season to preach
the Bible today. You go to any bookstore, I challenge
you, look on the shelf, look to find a book on church growth,
and you'll never find one that says, preach the word. You won't
find it. Let God build the church. No,
man doesn't think this would work, but God does. We've gotta stand firmly on the
conviction that our church is going to continue to be a place
where we can come and hear the Bible preached and taught. And
not only us, but it'll be there for our children, it'll be there
for our grandchildren. That's worth fighting for. Now, verses 3 and 4. For the time will come When they
will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts shall
they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears. And they
shall turn away their ears from the truth and shall be turned
on to fables. And isn't that where we're at
today? Turn to fables. When man turns from the truth,
he turns to something. For example, many today are turning
away from holy living. to worldly living. I watched
that, that Methodists were stronger on separation than we are. I don't think there's any left
anymore. I've watched the Nazarenes, not
every one, the Pentecostal and most Baptists change from holy
living to worldly living. Now, people laugh at us because we
dress modest. And it amazes me, the first thing
a woman does when she quits our church is put the pants on. And
I don't know why, I know I say it all the time, but it's not
very pretty. And I won't say that, what you
think I'm going to say, but it's not very pretty. And you know,
somebody's 100 pounds overweight and they put those pants on,
they go and they say, now I've made it. That should show what's
wrong. The people laugh at us because
we're modest. People laugh at us because we
don't mate like animals. The world today, doesn't want
any part of us. They want to go to church and
they want to play volleyball and they want to eat at church
and socialize and we do those things. But we also are determined
to preach modesty. Go to the beach and ask God if
He wants that. You can't. God wants us to preach modesty. God wants us to preach morality. Ask God if he wants your 12-year-olds
to mate. That's what's happening today. People not marrying, just shacking
up. No, they've turned away from
the truth. They have their reverence, They
have their priests, their professors, tickling their ears. But God
needs those who will stand. Listen to what Paul wrote Timothy
in 1 Timothy, just a couple pages back. 1 Timothy 4, verse 12. Let no man despise thy youth,
but be thou an example of the believers in the Word, in conversation,
in charity, in spirit, in faith, purity. We're to be an example
of believers in holy living. Now, I need to preach like this
and we all need to live it. Because the necklines in America
are going down and down. And the bottom of the blouses
are going up and up. And the hemlines on the skirts
are going up and up. What do you call it? The waistlines
are going down and down. We shouldn't be ashamed of just
looking like a Christian. You know you should and so does
the world. I am so glad that I'm saved and
I'm glad my wife and daughters aren't trying to be accepted
by the world and look like streetwalkers. I'm so glad that my granddaughters
are being taught not to turn from the truth and to dress like
little ladies. And they're not going to go out
on the beaches like penthouse prostitutes. They're going to
save their purity for their husband. God help us to stay with holy
living. And don't be ashamed of it. You
that are here, you're visiting, and you say, what's he talking
about? Holy living. You know what that results with?
A pure conscience. It results with enjoying life. Little kids are ruined. They're
destroyed in the public schools. Destroyed. I hate the public
schools. I hate the teachers union. They're
being used to destroy our country. And I think they've already been
successful. If you have Jesus in your heart, it ought to be
reflected in what you look like and the way you live. But next,
and I'll hurry along, we should stand for the priesthood of the
believer. You have a strong leadership. People will accuse that leader,
that pastor, of being a dictator. Now, let me say, I believe so
strongly in the priesthood of the believer I could never be
a dictator. And I hope I make this clear.
I hope I don't confuse people. But when somebody comes into
my office, of course, if they're talking about doctrine or something
that's very clear in the Bible, I'll say, this is what you ought
to do because that's what the Bible teaches. But if it doesn't,
I'm not going to tell people what to do. Hundreds of times
I've told people, I can't tell you what to do. Only you can
know what God wants. I don't want to get into the
fine details. All I want to do is help you
find what God wants. And don't ever say you're doing
what I told you to do. Don't ever say that. Don't ever
say, I do something because Fairhaven does it. That's a very foolish
statement. You show your immaturity by saying
things like that. Now, God gave me the responsibility
to lead this church and doctrine and practice, and people do need
leadership. But you should know if the preaching
is off. And I've said hundreds of times,
if the preaching's off on doctrine and morality, run me out. We
were just teaching the Constitution on Thursday nights, and I pointed
out that it's easier to vote the pastor out than to vote a
pastor in. That's me. I wanted that. Make
it easy to get rid of the guy if he's doing wrong. Everything
said from up here should be confirmed by the word of God in the Holy
Spirit. Then put your heart into it.
First Timothy two. First Timothy two verse. Five. I'm sorry, I'm in Thessalonians. 1st Timothy 2, verse 5. For there
is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. We don't get to God through some
human priest, but through Christ Jesus. We've got to emphasize
the priesthood of the believer. Then we must be willing to endure
affliction. 2 Timothy 4.5. And I will get moving. 2 Timothy
4.5. But watch thou in all things,
endure afflictions, do the work of the evangelist, make full
proof of thy ministry. Why do you think there is this emphasis? Don't be ashamed of the gospel.
Don't be ashamed of me. Endure afflictions. Let no man
despise thy youth. Why do you think God gives us
that constant emphasis? Because we're going against the
grain. They were 2,000 years ago, and we are now. If you're
going to stand for the Lord, it takes some enduring. If you
stand for the Lord, you're going upstream. You're going against
the current. You're going uphill. There's
no painless way to follow Jesus Christ. People say, I don't want
to witness because I don't want to offend anybody. That's not
true. The reason you don't want to
witness is because you're afraid you're going to be offended.
Someone's going to make fun of you. We must die to self and
say, I'm not ashamed of the Lord Jesus Christ. I'm not ashamed
to believe that this book is true. I'm not ashamed to say
I'm going to heaven someday. I'm not ashamed to say he died
for me, that he's my Lord. There ought to be something inside
of us, especially in this God hating, God denying age. that says, I'll stand for Him. I'll stand for Him. I'll endure
infliction. And then last, we must always
have the compassion of Christ. The world likes to say that we
that believe in personal standards and hellfire and brimstone don't
love. Well, I'll tell you what we better
love if we follow the Bible. We should live holy and be filled
with love. Again, 2 Timothy 1. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
by the will of God, according to the promise of life which
is in Christ Jesus. Now listen. To Timothy, my dearly
beloved son, Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and
Christ Jesus our Lord. The fiery Paul, the strong Paul
talks about his dearly beloved son. The same Jesus who took
the money changers tables and threw them over and whipped them
with a whip, opened his arms to little children and they climbed
up in his lap. That same Jesus was nailed to
the cross and said, Father, forgive them. Sometimes I get sick of
this world. I hate this world's sin and I
hate the wickedness and the system. But while we're yet sinners,
Christ died for us. The man who drove the nails in
Jesus' hands there as he laid on a cross on that ground, had
a look into the face of one who loved Him. When people come here,
I want them not only to hear the truth and see decency and
see godliness, but also see that we love God, we love one another,
and we love the unsaved. Let's pray.
