Proverbs 21.30 says, there is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord. We previously discussed this proverb in relation to the fact that Satan fell in an attempt to invent wisdom, understanding, and counsel against the Lord. Those who reject the wisdom of God found in the person, word, and work of Jesus Christ have by default chosen to be the children of the devil. And we discussed the pseudo-wisdom that deceived fools believe they have found that somehow defeats the existence and purpose of God. We could say a whole lot about that. But in all this, they lack understanding. There is no understanding against the Lord. I am regularly told by people I try to witness to or come in contact with on social media, things like, I just don't believe in your version of God. And of course some say, I just don't believe in God, period. Their understanding of reality and of the issues and of the evidence for God is either woefully lacking or they are willfully ignorant. Either way, they have no understanding. And that's what this means. True understanding is of the Lord. There is none against the Lord in reality. As Paul wrote in Ephesians 5.17, Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. Real understanding is to have, to receive, and to live by the wisdom of God. Any and all who oppose God lack any legitimate understanding. On the contrary, we are assured in 1 John 5.20, and we know that the Son of God is come and hath given us an understanding. that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son, Jesus Christ, this is the true God and eternal life. We have our focus on Jesus Christ. The foolish man or woman has their focus really on themselves, and they make a false god in their own image, in their mind, to their own liking. Have you noticed that? Even those who seem religious in some way, when they reject the truth of the gospel and the truth of God's word, they really are all about worshiping themselves. If they go to church, which a lot of them do, it's a false church that focuses on them instead of upon Jesus and his word. They attend churches where the teachings are all about them. A series on the family, a series on finances, a series on being happy, a series about addictions, a series about self-discovery, a series about self-esteem and self-love. But we read in Proverbs 18.2, a fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. I just have to laugh every time I hear somebody say, I just want to discover myself. I want to find myself. You're a fool, according to Proverbs 18.2, and when your focus is on yourself when you are the focus. You lack the understanding that, according to God's word, we're to die to self. Paul says, I die daily. We're to present our bodies as a living sacrifice. Again, Paul wrote that in Romans 12, one and two. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service, and be not conformed to this world. but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. When you are your focus, you are standing against God. And you stand against God's word when you are ruled by your own opinions. And in that state or condition, there is no understanding against the Lord. You either make Jesus your Lord, God, and Savior, or you will self-destruct. And again, we read in Proverbs 9, 10, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. It's about Jesus and his word. It's about Jesus and his plan. It's about Jesus and his glory. And let us live out the model prayer of Matthew 6, 13, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. To the glory of Jesus Christ.
