Hello again and welcome to the program. We're here with a little strength for today. We've been looking in Psalm chapter 1, we can end our life like a tree that bears fruit or like the chaff, which is useless. Reading again in Psalm chapter 1, it says in verse 1, blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law does he meditate day and night. What is the result of that? Verse number 3, he shall be like a tree, planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season, his leaf shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. On the other hand, we can end our life like the chaff, verse 4, the ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff, which the wind driveth away. Chaff is useless. Only one life will soon be passed. Only what's done for Christ will last. He shall be like a tree. There are three trillion trees on earth, according to scientists. They also say there are 60,000 different species of trees. Verse 3 says, if we follow the formula in verse 1 and 2, it says that whatsoever we doeth will prosper. What's that mean, to prosper? When Paul the Apostle got saved, he certainly followed the formula here that we have in Psalm chapter 1. How did he prosper? In 2 Corinthians chapter 11, we read in verse 24 that of the Jews, five times he received 40 stripes. In verse 25, he said three times he was beaten with rods. He said he was stoned three times. He was shipwrecked and spent a day and a night in the water. He said he was in perils and journeyings and waters of robbers, of his own countrymen, of the heathen in the city, in the wilderness. He said he was in perils in the sea among false brethren. He was weary. He had painfulness and watching and hunger and thirst and fasting. He was cold and naked. Then there was that time when they let him out of a window in a basket because a bunch of people said they wouldn't eat or drink until they killed him. Is that prospering? When we look at words like this in the Word of God, we need to look at the context in which they appear. Remember, we mentioned in a previous program, in Joshua 1 and 8, the Bible says that God said to Joshua, The book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein. For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." The context here is that Joshua was about to face the battle of Jericho and a whole lot of other battles on the other side of the Jordan River, and God said, if you follow this formula, you'll have good success at what I have given you to do. The exact same thing is true of Paul the Apostle. When he got saved in Acts chapter 9, he said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? When God talks about us being prosperous, it means to be prosperous at the thing that God has given us to do. In verse number 4, it says the ungodly are not so, but they are like the chaff, which the wind driveth away. Verse 5 says the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment. And verse 6 says the way of the ungodly shall perish. Again, the ungodly does not refer to someone here who is wicked. It refers to someone who is simply not godly. As we've mentioned before, to be unkind is not kind. To be unhappy is not happy. To be ungodly is not godly. David said in Psalm 119, verse 161, my heart standeth in awe of thy word. As Christians, we might think taking our Bible to church three times a week makes us godly. No, there's a lot more to it than that. And so verse 1 said, Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law that he meditate day and night. That word blessed means happy, but it also means content. Both of these things are a byproduct of simply following Psalm chapter 1.
