We will chant for a short while, and the Lord will enable us to words you will find in the portion of scripture read. Read verse 7 of the 19th Psalm. The law of the Lord is passionate, conducting the soul, The testimony of the Lord is true, making it wise and simple. Especially these few words at the very beginning of the chapter, the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. There need not be any doubt whatsoever in our minds. as to who composed the song. It has been, it has been very clear to us at the outset of the song, that it was put together by no one else but David, the sweet sounds Now it is clear from this psalm and from other psalms that David had two books that he was meditating upon. That was meditation. One of them was the book of nature. Even he begins the psalm by saying, the heavens, he says, declare the glory of God, and the firmament show this anti-world. Day into night, at the Resurrection, night into night, show knowledge. That was one of the books that he meditated upon. Now if you're a Christian too, you meditate upon that book. Not apart, of course, from the Lord of God. And the other book. David didn't have a whole Bible, as few as I have. First, we feel he had quite a number of maps, but it contained, it was what he had. as close to his heart, closer than any other book, was the infallible Word of mighty God. And what a book that is, the Word of God to the Lord and to the prophets. Now, there are three things mentioned He and by the Psalms in this special that we could consider for a short while and the Lord will enable us in the hope and with the prayers that it would be blessed to us. But what then, simultaneously, if these words were blessed to us? even blessed to one's soul. And there are three things that we could consider. There is one word here, the word law. And then there is that word law described. It is perfect. And what that word does? It converts us, the soul. First of all, we have the word of God. Just one word, three, three letters. One word of God. But what a word it is. Especially in the light of God's word. It is used in the Old Testament a number of times. It's used in the New Testament as well, the world law. It is used with respect to the five books of Moses. Yes, we all know the fact of Moses. I'd better have the right correct. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, John, Mark, Deuteronomy. They are referred to as the books of the law. That's one place that the word law is used. And it is also used with regard to the ceremonial law, not to the ceremonial law, to the moral law. But we all fear the effect of moral law from time to time. But something that we tend to forget when we think of the moral law, the effect of the moral law, that it is only of the moral law that we have in the Ten Commandments. It's a simple fact. It's a fact of the moral law. So in the highest sense, if I can put it like that, the moral law is the Word of God. Moral laws have been comprehended in the Ten Commandments. And then it is used as well, the word law, with respect to another law, ceremonial law. God gave the moral law and the ceremonial law to the children of Israel, to Moses on one side, and the ceremonial law was abrogated by the coming and by the Christ carried into the world his life of obedience, an obedience that was sent to death even after the cross. The cross of Calvary, what he cried, it is finished. And you remember what happened in this year, in the temple, The veil of the temple was red from top to its very bottom. Wouldn't you like to see that red? You would never have seen that red like it is in your life. So clean and exact. So perfect. Anything that the Lord blesses must be like that. show the ceremonial law. It's the moral law, the ceremonial law. And the word is applied to something else too. Paul writes to the Romans, he mentioned sin, and he referred to sin as a law. And of course, with regard to sinness of all, it must be not only sinness of all, but also death is not all. The law of sin and death. The law of sin and death. Then how is sin? No, it's death. You should know that, yes. And how does sin work, you suppose? And death works, you suppose? They work in form of humanity with the force of a law. So everyone must know what he and she did today. Does not acknowledge that he's going to die. and that you must die, and that you will die. That is very clear from the fact of sins and deaths of the Lord. And of course, that cannot be separated from the moral law. But God sent to Adam in the garden of Eden before the fall. He was in that garden with access to the fruit of every three that was in the garden, but one, the fruit of one tree, the fruit of the three is the knowledge of good but evil. But God said to Adam, the day thou wakest thereof thou shalt So you'll surely die, and rather than promise the wages of the stone, there's nothing else but death. Now can I ask you just in the past, do you think you'll die? Does every day pass, even though you're young, and you don't think you'll die? Surely you'll die. because of them. Paul, writing to the Romans as well, what did he say to them? Well, here you see that he said this to them, but he said this to them, just to justify what was just said. Romans chapter seven, verse seven. What shall we say then? This was all said, God forbid, day, I had not known sin, but by the law. For I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not lust. But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, brought to me all manner of precipices. For without the law, sin is dead." So sin, this is death. Sin is very much alive. That's fine, because of God's love. Yes, it's a word of life. But in this verse, the Hebrew word for love is Torah. And you could say that it implies all other laws that have been mentioned. or the elusive dominion. The word law here in the psalm of Psalm 90 is, and it means the empirical word of God, the scriptures of the Old and New Testament. And it means, the word law here, it means The Word of God from Genesis to Revelation, of course, everything from the Genesis down to the Psalms didn't have the New Testament. Here the New Testament is in the seat, as Bishop Ryan said, that the Gospel in the Old Testament is in the seat, but in the New Testament it is in the house. And what does that imply? It implies all the doctrine, the teaching, the prophecy, the promises, the threats, and, of course, the gospel, the insatiable riches of Christ. Yes, all that is implied in the world law. So laws are laws. What a law it is. What a work the work of God is. We are spying this mass. Yes. And you know that what we should be grateful is that God would give us an appetite for His work. for His unfathomable Word, for the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament. And it's very interesting, the different ways in which the Psalms describes the Word of God, describes the Scriptures. And in Psalm 190 he refers to them as contentments, commandments, statutes, and testimonies. The law is holy, just, spiritual, adequate. When we speak of the moral law, we tend to speak, we speak of it as being holy, just, The fact that you heard the word of God is supremely comprehended in the Ten Commandments. For the word of God is holy, is just, is spiritual, and is simply good. May you have an appetite for it. May you have an appetite for it. May you have an appetite for it. May my appetite for it be whited in the worldliness of this world on the way to eternity. It is the only role that God has given to direct us, how we may glorify Him, and how we may enjoy Him. And just as God teaches us what we ought to believe concerning Him, and the duty that it requires of us. And he commands us to repent of our sins and to believe the gospel, to believe in Christ, to believe it is worthy. Do you remember shortly after Christ was born from the dead that he tried to believe a on the way to Damascus. They were sad, despondent. Their world had fallen apart. They had turned their backs on Jerusalem because of what had happened. They saw their Lord despised and rejected and crucified. and they turned their back to Jerusalem, possibly their own minds, forevermore. But it turned out that they didn't ask, who came into the company, but the person Christ. Just didn't make himself known to them at all. Then, Where did he lead them to? Where did he direct them to? He led them to the book of Moses, to the books of the Lord, to the five books of Moses, and to the prophets. And he points them and directs them to the glorious passion of Christ. It's just a few, few words, few words. to his severings, to his humiliation, and to his exaltation. After he spoke to them, they too, for example, awesome prophets, he said to them, all known to Christ, to have suffered these things. Amen to that. Thank you, Lord. Yes, a few words. That's where he's at. The Word of God. The Word of God is the scripture of the Old and New Testament. Particularly we have, what's true of the Word of God? And let me say it again, the unfathomable Word of God. The Word of God in total. What's through it? It is perfect. Now though David said that it was perfect, he didn't say that it was complete. Not at all. Because it wasn't complete. But though it wasn't complete, That doesn't mean that it was perfect. It was a perfect revelation. It was a perfect supernatural revelation that God was given of himself. Not only as the one true and living God, the one body true and merciful and gracious God, one true, unconditious God, whom no wise would like to acquit the guilty. Yes, it is fascinating. He didn't say that it would be complete, because that would be so anyway, but it wasn't so. Because many a prophet came after Christ, came after David, of course, for the penance of many, many a prophet. Not only in the Old Testament, but in the New Testament. And not only that, the New Testament dispensation was yet to come. And of course, it wouldn't be complete apart from the New Testament dispensation in the fullness of time. And that happened when the glorious person of Christ appeared as promised in this world. And it happened by his life of obedience, and obedience that was unto death, and his glorious resurrection, and his exaltation to the right hand of God, the Father. All that had to take place. And all that took place minutely, and to the letter. It was a supernatural liberation. It was perfect. And it was completed. And we have it completed. In the Book of Liberations. And I'll just give it to you in the seat. I'll just take you to the seat. Genesis chapter 3, remember what God said to the serpent in verse 15, And I will put an end between thee and the woman, and between thy seat and her seat. It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his seat. That's the seat of the supernatural. revelation that God has given to us of himself, in the glorious personal world of his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. And when you leave from that threat of promise, how it expands you to the depth of my life. Hope has faith in God does everything. And not only hope has faith in God does everything, How complete, how it is complete, how it will be complete, what devil it has. Just like you and me start something and then turn it back. I've thought this way at all. It's a perfect, wonderful thing. Yes. This Word of God has no defects. It has no defects. It cannot be devoid of it. And God himself has pronounced that curse. Just think of it. How careful you and I should be with regard to God's Word. Even preachers of the Word. God has pronounced that curse. on anyone. Yes, his revelation is so perfect and so complete that he found that he did pronounce the curse on anyone who would act to it, endeavor to act to it, or take from his word. Oh, this is nonsense to hang on to the word of God. and to press it even on her chest. No wonder Bishop Ryan, I read some time ago, when he died, he told his wife and his husband to get a special Bible and it was full of marks, here, there and everywhere. And he said to his husband, please don't In any case, he poured out the bishop's love, not only to the brethren of the world, but to the God of the world, to the Christ of the world, to the Spirit of the world, and to the cross of the world, and to the Lord's people of the world. All the few that he knew, and the innumerable that he didn't, that he didn't know at all, the law of God. Yes, he didn't say it was complete. But you and I, we can say, the lost God, he didn't say that it was complete then. But he would have believed it would be completed. But he said, you and I can say, yes, God's law is perfect. God's word is perfect. And God's word is complete. We have, you know, when you see, not only coming with the Bible in one language, but in two languages, many of us. What do we use? What use do we make of it? So in the Word of God, in this law, we have the Gospel, the word Gospel. And what are we pouring into it? And what does Father do in the Gospel? A perfect Redeemer and a perfect Saviour. When you think of it that way, a perfect, when the Gospel is preached, a perfect Redeemer and a perfect Saviour, not only is pointed unto you, but is clearly unto you, in the everlasting Gospel, without money. under their own flags? Or why would we die under the pity of the gospel and go into a lost eternity? Why? Freely offered in the everlasting gospel. The law for the Lord is perfect. Yes, you could add to it here The Lord is perfect and complete. He converted the soul. But He doesn't say that it quickens the soul. No, He doesn't say that it quickens the soul because it doesn't quicken the soul. It converts the soul. What quickens the soul? the Holy Spirit of God. It is the Spirit that quickens, that quickens. The flesh, prophetess, it's the Holy Spirit that quickens. Yes, no one will be born again apart from the ministry of the Holy Spirit. But, the Holy Spirit will not, isn't quickened A sinner, a part of the world, you cannot take that, to take worship from the world. Because regeneration is an act of God, an act of the Holy Spirit, once in me, once after all. But conversion is a concomitant of regeneration. From that insult, you don't have to feel God again but once, and generously but once, but the Christians, they should go back to it time and time again. And I can quote that to you from the Word of God. You remember what Christ said to St. Peter? He said history was, among many other things, Simon, Simon, he said. Satan, he said, has decided to suit you as to which, but I have prayed for you, but thy faith hath not. But thy faith hath not. But he said to him, when the Lord had banned it, when the Lord Do you think that Simon Peter wasn't converted before then? He was, but he had denied his Lord, as he did more than once, by cursing and swearing that he ever knew Him. Ah, but what a gracious Saviour! It's no wonder that he said, that he said, at one time as he possessed, we were, he said, eyewitnesses of his majesty. We weren't. Have you been an eyewitness of his majesty? Have I been an eyewitness of his majesty? never forget, forgotten. They could never forget. I'm sure they could never forget the eye with which Christ, that Christ called this story. But he had to go out of Christ's presence, shedding tears of regret. And then again in Psalm 23, that's a very interesting psalm, Psalm 23. The psalmist was full of assurance, for instance. He begins the psalm by saying, the Lord is my shepherd. What comes after that? He ends it by goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. But, in the middle of this time, what is his prayer? Or what was his prayer? It's the present tense. My soul is healed and restored. He is restored again. And, for Lord, I am made to walk doth make, within the paths of righteousness, for his own name's sake. Yes. David himself, when he had time, for a few times went to grieve his sons, and he would acknowledge that he did not know that he was to be converted. Not one again, but converted. And he uses the present tense My soul, he said, he does restore again. No question about it. And we do want to be within the paths of righteousness, even for his own name's sake. What a word, the word of God is. If you could only break it down for you to feed upon, that all the Lord does best for you, converting the soul. And the Hebrew word ever-permitting soul has so many different meanings. It means to recover, to return, to relieve, to refresh, and to comfort. Well, if you and I know something of being permitted again and again, we know something of all that. Do we not? Yes, but all of the Lord is better than that, the soul. The Spirit of God doesn't generate a part of the world, and the world doesn't convert a part of the Holy Spirit. I've got to leave you with these words, but I would like to say something to those who are young and old. Have you got Christ as your saviour, Redeemer of sin? I could hear someone say, well, I would love to be a Christian. You meet some people, Christians, and they said when they were young they would rather be Christians. I met somebody recently, and what she strongly meant, has your soul. All was like that. She was a good living husband, always desired to be a Christian. And you know this, her sister was so blind, no word about her soul or eternity, became a Christian. And do you know what? She became jealous of her sister. What would you conclude from that? Did she have sympathy, that she wasn't aware of herself? Possibly she had. So what do you do with these words then? The Lord is perfect, perfecting the soul. All her fear cut, and how clean is it? If I can use the term, the word of God is, the Lord, the Lord has passed away. Converting the soul. Have you been born again? That's the primary question. But if you're not born again, you're not converted. And if you are born again, you are converted, and you'll be converted, and converted, and converted to getting this world. Let us pray.
