Proverbs 21 28 says a false witness shall perish but the man that heareth speaketh constantly Have you ever heard the saying tell the truth and you never have to worry about what you say? A false witness eventually gets caught in his or her lies and is destroyed to some extent or another as a result, but the guy who tells the truth just talks freely and never has to worry about it coming back to bite him. Why? Because he's not a false witness. That's what our proverb is telling us as it says, a false witness shall perish, but the man that heareth speaketh constantly. When police arrest a suspect, they interview them immediately or as soon as possible. By doing so, they get the suspect on record and if there's no confession of guilt and they find no reason to remove the person from suspicion, then they go to work. A second interviewer will come in and ask the same questions, while also asking additional questions not brought up in the original interview. After that second interview, the two will sit down and compare notes. Why? To see if the suspect contradicted himself or herself, or if there were any other discrepancies or red flags. Then the first interviewer will go back in and dig deeper and if there were any discrepancies between the first two interviews the suspect is asked for clarification and on and on it goes. The investigators will hold as many interviews as they can until they're satisfied that they're getting the full story and are not being lied to. But many times It's during this whole process that they actually find the smoking gun or at least some evidence of guilt. And many times the suspect is caught in a lie. And this is an example of what our proverb is saying when we read, a false witness shall perish. Of course, there are a number of ways that a liar gets himself in trouble and can even get himself killed. But the gist of this proverb is to teach us that when you tell the truth, you never have to worry about being caught in a lie and suffering the consequences that can even be to the point that you perish. But the man that heareth speaketh constantly. You can just talk and talk, speaking constantly and never afraid of being exposed for telling lies when you're not a false witness. But the liar ends up having to tell more lies to cover up the first lies. Sometimes the first lies to cover up from some crime or sin. It doesn't matter. Once you start down that road, the lies have to pile up and a false witness shall perish. They'll get you. But we don't have to live in constant fear of suffering as a result of what we say. If we learn the simple lesson where which was simply, tell the truth, not only truthfully, but also accurately. That's important. You may think that what you're saying is true, but if it's a lie, it's a lie, even if you believe that it's the truth. Too many Christians and I've been guilty of this myself by the way, will pass on something they see on the internet and the thing turns out to be false. Now, I haven't done it in a really long time because I learned my lesson, but I learned it the hard way. I posted a video by The Onion, which is a satire, liberal satire site, but they did this thing where a congressman got up and was supposedly reading a bill about alien invasions and stuff. It seemed real! Go back and watch it now, it's just funny. But like me, you may not have done it on purpose, but it's still a false witness. And you're the one who passed that on to all your friends and social media followers. And it can hurt your reputation. It can hurt even your well-being in some cases. Why? Lies are bad. And every time you or I repeat someone else's information, without doing the research like a good Berean to find out if it's biblical or truthful, then we can hurt our own reputation. And that's why we're told in Ephesians 4.25, as Paul wrote to believers in Ephesus, a message to all believers saying, wherefore, putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor. For we are members one of another. Of course, the nine commandments told us all along, thou shalt not bear false witness.
