I have a life verse that goes like this. Be careful how you live, not as the unwise, but as the wise, making the most of every opportunity for the days are evil. We live in evil times, the Apostle Paul told us. Well, we live in evil times today. In 1973, the scourge of abortion ran rapid across our nation where our Supreme Court went against every rule that had ever been and opened up what they would call abortion. We use that term, but it is the taking of innocent human life. It's murder. We said that it was legal. And there were many of us that were aghast by that and began to work at every level. I have to tell you, as a member of the Florida House of Representatives, this year I was lamenting to a group of members of the House. I was a little frustrated. by the things that we were not accomplishing, especially in the pro-family, pro-life areas. Oh, yeah, we passed the biggest gambling bill that would ever be passed. And some people were excited about that. I wasn't one. But on the last day of session, across from the Senate, it had never happened before. We could never get it done. A bill came across that gave us an opportunity to do the following. And we put our House bill to compare with it, House Bill 1143, which I was a co-sponsor. And this bill simply allowed for us to make sure before an abortion takes place that they would require a sonogram. They call it a choice. Well, let's give them the greatest information. Let them see now, 3D, that this is a human life. We also made sure that in this bill, that we said that if, because of Obamacare that passed on a national level, that if there is federal funds that are to be used, they cannot be used here in Florida for any abortions whatsoever. And finally, we also declared in this bill that public policy of Florida is that the federal government, both state and local, cannot compel anyone to purchase health insurance. I don't care what Obamacare says. And that's what we did. The bill passed. I was honored to take the opening debate on informed consent. They asked me, they said, Representative Kelly, we want you to take the debate. Now, I'm just an old Southern Baptist preacher, so I'm going to get up there and rail a little bit. But at the end of the day, we prevailed. We passed it out of the House. We passed it out of the Senate. And here we go. All we simply need now is the governor to sign it. And if you're reading in the paper, you're seeing that he is now threatening to veto the bill. I need your help. It is not good enough just to send someone to Tallahassee and us to engage these issues and then just walk away from it. I must have the populace to those who are called in Christ, who are called according to his purpose and for his good pleasure to at this point in time to enjoin the battle and to call the governor's office this week. It will be sent to him probably this week. We've held off so that many of us, many of those that were involved in this could get out into the churches and all over the state, I've been doing this all over the state, asking people to engage this issue. Tonight, when you leave, you'll be given a flyer. I hope you take one. It simply says, please call Governor Chris today and respectfully, and I mean that respectfully, urge him to sign House Bill 1143, gives the phone numbers on there, also gives him an email address, how you can get a hold of him. Email is probably the best way. Planned Parenthood and the ACLU has been working overtime to make sure he vetoes this bill, and he is threatening to veto it. Now, if he does veto it, there's a group of us that are going to charge to go and try to override the veto. Has not been done in many, many years. But I would think it would be... Here's a man that says he is pro-life. So let's hold him to the fire. Hold his feet to the fire. Let me close with this. There's something happening in our nation. If you have seen all of the vulgarity And all of the foolishness that has gone through our culture is ripping through. Some have said that there is no way that America will ever turn back to God. Some have said that our best days are behind us. I suggest to you that is a lack of faith. But I believe that God still can work through our nation. He does not work strictly through political leaders. He works through the pulpits of Christ that are being preached and changing our lives. But because of that, There will be those that, right out of this, will be called into public life like I was. You get to be called a politician. Somehow, you're second class. You have to go out there and endure a lot of stuff. But if it's the right calling, and for the right purpose, then there is great joy. There's been great joy for me to be your state representative. Now, I will leave at the end of this year. My last days in Tallahassee were the end of this session, unless we call back to a special session. And I am running for Congress of the United States for the very same thing that God allowed me to do in Tallahassee in these times. I pray that there will be the same opportunity in Washington. Young men and women, God may be preparing you to come and preach from this pulpit. If so, do it with integrity and fidelity. But he may also be preparing you to take the stand for the cause of Christ in public life. If he does, do it with integrity and fidelity and courage. Be careful how you live, not as the unwise, but as the wise, making the most of every opportunity for the days are in. Thank you. God bless you.
