Live from Buffalo Creek. Please turn in your Bibles this evening to Psalm 107. Last week, last Wednesday night, we started a little series entitled The Names and Titles of God's People. Last week we covered a precious name that God has given to His people. We are the elect of God, His chosen, His beloved. And tonight we're going to look at another title and how it relates to us, Psalm 107 and verse 1. I labeled this psalm as the deliverance psalm. O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good, for His mercy endureth forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy, and gathered them out of the lands from the east, from the west, from the north, from the south, They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way. They found no city to dwell in. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble and He delivered them out of their distresses. And He led them forth by the right way that they might go to a city of habitation. Oh, that men would praise the Lord for His goodness. and for His wonderful works to the children of men." Tonight we want to consider this title, this name, the redeemed of the Lord. Now who are the redeemed of the Lord? Well, if you understand the nature of redemption, redemption is deliverance by way of a ransom. And it implies that Someone is under bondage. Someone, this person, is in duress, in distress. Who are the redeemed of the Lord? They are people who were in the clutches of sin and Satan. We were trapped. We were in bondage. We were in captivity. to Satan and to sin and ungodliness. We were in a miry pit that we could not get out of. We were ensnared, taken captive by Satan at his own will. That's who the redeemed of the Lord were in their natural condition. We were trapped by the greatest enemies of every man, sin and Satan. We were trapped and in bondage to our own sin, our own ungodliness, the debt that we owed was something we could never pay. And Jesus Christ looked upon these poor, trapped, captivated enslaved sinners. And he determined to offer himself as a ransom, the ransom of his own blood. When you understand what you were and how you were redeemed, it ought to cause you to live for the Lord every single day. He's the one that paid the price in full, the ransom price of His own blood, of His own perfect life, the merits of His obedience. Jesus gave it all so that we could be set free, so that we could be liberated, so that we could be redeemed by the blood. So who are the redeemed of the Lord? They're the folks that Jesus was thinking about before the world began, that the Father gave Him to redeem. Look over here at 1 Peter chapter 1 and verse 18. For as much as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, you weren't purchased out of the slave market of sin and the bondage of Satan by silver or gold or the things of this world that pass away. None of that is a satisfactory ransom price. We're not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers. But how are we redeemed? But with the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world. but was manifest in these last times for you. The Father loved us, chose us, and gave us to the Son of God, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, who agreed to be our surety, who agreed to come and be our substitute, take our place and our sins and all the penalty that was due us. to affect what? Our release, our redemption. He paid the purchase price in full and we are set free by faith in His blood. Look over at Hebrews chapter 13. This blood that was shed, the ransom price that was given is something that is not just It's not, it's extraordinary because look what it says about the blood that affected our redemption, that bought us. It says in Hebrews 13, 20, now the God of peace that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the everlasting covenant. make you perfect in every good work to do His will working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ to whom be glory forever and ever." Who are the redeemed of the Lord? They are the people that Jesus came to give His life for, to shed His precious blood for. How are we redeemed? redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. We're redeemed by the life, the blood, the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. He talked about giving Himself as a ransom price over in Matthew chapter 20. In verse 28, even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give His life a ransom for many. Think about that. He gave Himself, His life, His blood to redeem us. Our redemption is entirely bound up in the finished work of Jesus Christ. It's all of grace. There's not a thing that you can do to work for in order to be redeemed. It's all of grace. Look over, let's look at a few verses dealing with the redeeming work of Jesus. Many of these very familiar, Romans chapter 3 and verse 24, being justified freely through, by His grace, through what? through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Two things are necessary for redemption. An adequate ransom price must be paid and then the effect of that is whoever you ransom, whoever you buy, whoever you purchase, they are released. They are set free. And that is exactly what Jesus did. when He redeemed us by His blood being, it says, whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are passed through the forbearance of God. To declare, I say at this time, His righteousness that He might be the just and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. We don't have anything to boast of. He paid the price and it was the price of His own blood that God required. It's the only thing that God is satisfied with. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? Nay, but by the law of faith. Therefore, we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Remember last week when we looked at Ephesians chapter 1 and the glories of the title of the elect and the beloved? Now think about that eternal determination of God and what it resulted in. It says there in verse 6, to the praise of the glory of His grace wherein He hath made us accepted in the beloved in whom we have redemption through what? through our works, through our religion, through our good deeds? No. In whom we have redemption through His blood. The forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace. You realize, here you were, captivated by Satan, in the thralls and bondage of sin, with no way out. Jesus came and redeemed you. He set you free. He took you off the broad road and put you on the narrow way. He translated you out of darkness into the kingdom of His dear Son, all by the power of His blood and of His sacrifice. God ought to cheer our hearts tonight. Colossians 1.20 says it this way, ìAnd having made peace through the blood of His cross by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself by whom I say, ìWhether they be things in earth or things in heaven, And you that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now with thee reconciled in the body of His flesh, He bore our sins in His body on the tree. To what end? To present you holy and unblameable and unreprovable in His sight. Jesus redeemed us with His blood. He obtained eternal redemption for us. Hebrews chapter 9 and verse 12, Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. Now, this redemption, this setting free, we've been bought with this price. God was satisfied with the ransom price. And it guarantees that we are going to be with the Lord forever. So, what are the redeemed of the Lord to say? We ought to say, I belong to the King. I'm the purchased possession of the eternal Son of God. What should we say? What should the redeemed of the Lord say? Let me tell you about the glories of my Redeemer. He is the eternally begotten Son of God. He has no beginning, no ending. He was adored by all the heavenly hosts before the world began. There is none like Him. And He was willing. He is the person of the Godhead who was willing to become a man to identify with those who are in bondage. He came by way of a virgin womb. He was born of a virgin. He lived a completely perfect life in every respect, obeying the law of God and delighting in it. Everywhere He went, He was doing good. He healed the lame. He opened the eyes of the blind. He raised the dead. He fed the multitudes. He comforted the widows. Our Lord is a Great One! The Great One! Everything He did was right. without ever having even a thought or a motive or a desire of sin after fulfilling all the Father had given Him to do. He went to the cross to offer Himself, His blood, His righteousness, His merits as a ransom price to redeem us, to purchase us, to secure our forgiveness. There is none like Jesus. He has set free some of the worst and most foul and ungodly and immoral and unholy people. Paul said that he was the chief of sinners. He was redeemed by the precious blood of the Lamb. What are the redeemed to say? Oh, this redemption goes not just to the elect Jews, but to those all over the world. He's going to save them out of every nation, kindred, tribe, and tongue. What are the redeemed of the Lord to say? The hope is in the gospel that centers around the death, burial, and resurrection, the giving of Himself. in order to save sinners. I owe Him everything. And I want others to know His saving power. If someone had delivered you from such great debt and heartache and disappointment and damnation, you shouldn't be ashamed to own His name. I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first and also to the Greek, for therein is revealed the righteousness of God by faith. As it is written, the just shall live by faith. I belong to the King. The Lord is my shepherd. My Shepherd offered His blood to demand my release. And Satan is as nothing. He took my sin, He took my condemnation, and He delivered me. You know, not one of the redeemed will ever lose the Lord's salvation. If you've been purchased by the Lamb, by the Lord Jesus Christ, with the blood of the everlasting covenant, He's never lost anyone that He's ever paid for. I tell you, if you understand the nature of redemption, it's a particular redemption. Judas doesn't know what I know. He's in hell. He's not redeemed. We've been bought. You know, we ought to act like we belong to the king. Like we understand that he gave everything for us. No command that he's given should be grievous to us. We ought to delightfully say, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? What will you have me to say? Where will you have me to go? Lord, I surrender everything to you. You own me. You bought me. And I gladly serve my King. That ought to be our attitude. What, know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost? and that you're not your own. I'm misquoting some of that. Let me get over there. What, know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which you have of God, and you're not your own? For you're bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. Everything we do ought to go to this end. Am I glorifying the one who bought me, the one who loved me, and purchased me with his own blood? Am I fulfilling the admonition that Paul gave? I beseech you, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your body a living sacrifice. He did present your body a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. This is not unreasonable for us to live surrendered to our King with a spirit and attitude of thanksgiving and cheerfulness and gratefulness that He's redeemed us by His blood. We ought to act like we've been redeemed. Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Are you redeemed? Act like it. People ought to know that you've been redeemed. Your life should be changed if you've been redeemed. Isn't that the admonition in Titus Chapter 2? Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world, looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and our Savior Jesus Christ who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto Himself a peculiar people zealous of good works. If you're redeemed, if you wear this title, If you've been bought with a price, if you're the purchased possession of Jesus Christ, He's redeemed you from all iniquity. Don't wallow in it. Don't serve sin. You've been set free. Do you realize that because of what Jesus did, The redeemed are going to sing about this throughout all eternity. Now unto Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior be glory and majesty, dominion and power both now and ever. Amen. Jude 24, 25. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Because He's redeemed the people from the north and the south, the east and the west, from the four corners of the earth. He has a people. And one day we're going to gather around the One who redeemed us. Can you imagine that? Can you think about that? And they sung a new song. saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open the seals thereof, for Thou wast slain and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation, and hast made us kings and priests, and hast made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall reign on the earth. A lot to be said about the redeemed of the Lord, isn't it? He loves us so much that He purchased us with His own blood, His own life. I hope you know Him.
