proclaiming the gospel to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Shalom and welcome to the Everlasting Nation, a radio ministry of International Board of Jewish Missions. This is Mark Oshman with the International Board of Jewish Missions, presenting another radio Bible study. In our continuing series about angels in the Bible, today we study them as agents of God's judgment. One of the ministries God assigned to angelic beings entailed either the proclamation or the execution of divine judgments. Angels sometimes issued warnings to transgressors, commanding them to repent. On other occasions, angels actually executed judgments on such people who did not repent. According to the second chapter of the Book of Judges, an angel came from Gilgal to Bochum, where the Jewish nation assembled. This angel, speaking in God's name, told the assembled Jews, quote, I made you to go up out of Egypt and have brought you unto the land which I swear unto your fathers. And I said I will never break my covenant with you. And you shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land. You shall throw down their altars. But ye have not obeyed my voice, unquote. The angel continued that As a result, God would not drive them out from before them. Instead, in the angel's words, quote, they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their God shall be a snare unto you, unquote. This impending judgment caused the Israelites to weep and offer sacrifices unto God. The repeated cycles of oppression and deliverance which the Jews underwent at that time, demonstrated that God would perform what the angel said he would do. During the latter days, angels will assist God in executing judgments against transgressors. In the Savior's parable about the wheat and the tares, the count contained in Matthew chapter 13, quote, he declared that, quote, the Son of Man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend. and them which do iniquity, and shall cast them into a furnace of fire, there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." Later in that same chapter the Lord repeated His admonition. When the end of the world arrived according to Jesus Christ, the angels shall come forth and sever the wicked from among the just, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire. At that time, he continued, quote, there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth, unquote. Paul addressed the same matter in the first chapter of 2 Thessalonians. He wrote that in the latter days, quote, the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, unquote. Angels will assist Jesus Christ in punishing those who rejected him. The book of Revelation described in detail the nature of that punitive ministry. Angels unleashed seven judgments upon the earth, the sea, and the trees. Judgments recorded in the eighth chapter and the ninth chapter of Revelation. The 16th chapter of that book recorded how angels poured out on the earth the contents of seven vials containing plagues. Yet another angel bound the devil himself, casting him into a bottomless pit for 1,000 years. This according to the 20th chapter of the book of Revelation. God entrusted the angelic hosts with a certain degree of his power. They needed that endowment to serve as his agents of judgment. After Satan's rebellion mentioned in Isaiah 14, no angel sought to usurp God's authority. They were content with their place as agents of judgment.
