Proverbs 21-25 says, The desire of the slothful killeth him, for his hands refuse to labor. The slothful is a sloth. And those of us who know that may look at this proverb and think that it's a bit redundant. I mean, basically it's saying that the sloth refuses to work and it ends up getting him killed by various possible means. But this really isn't as intuitive to most people as you might think. If it were, American society would be a whole lot different than it is. What do I mean? 2 Thessalonians 3.10 says, for even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. Well, you take people in America on welfare. A small percentage of the folks receiving government assistance, as it's called, are totally incapable of working. Therefore, it's okay for them to be helped. But the mass majority are capable of working. And they should be removed from the welfare roles and no longer get SNAP, which used to be called food stamps. The mass majority of welfare recipients could work and should work, but the Marxist Democrats and progressive Republicans in Congress have created this welfare system that we have in this country which enables the sloth to be a sloth to a great extent. And as a result, our welfare system produces criminals and people who are in such bad health that they drain our healthcare system and die as a result of their slothfulness. In other words, this proverb is proven true just by looking at our welfare system. And the systems in Canada and England and Europe are even worse than our American system, by the way. But the blame ultimately lies with the sloth who is on welfare. Just because he or she can mooch and get by without working, doesn't mean he or she should do so. And that is a major example of the truth of this proverb. The desire of the sloth will killeth him, for his hands refuse to labor. But even sloths who can't qualify for welfare end up self-destructing because of their shiftless, sinful attitude. We could cite social security beneficiaries and permanent disability beneficiaries who are gaming the system, who end up going into the pit as a result. Of course, there are some who should be on those programs, but many should not. And the same is seen with sloths who aren't on any government assistance program. The prisons are full of people who decided that instead of working for a living, they'd sell drugs, or they'd steal, or embezzle, or even kill for money. Many of them will die in jail as a result, while many others die in the act of committing those crimes. The cemeteries are filled with graves of people who met death early. As it's told in Ecclesiastes 7.17, Be not overmuch wicked, neither be thou foolish. Why shouldst thou die before thy time? The slothful is a man or woman with the wicked desire to live like a parasite, taking what they don't earn and sucking their sustenance out of others who do work for a living. Of course, some of the worst parasites are preachers and politicians. And I just can give you my word, I'm not one of those. But we will leave that discussion for another time. The bottom line is, don't be a sloth. I don't understand sloths. The days just go so slow. Everybody I know who is a sloth is miserable. Working hard makes a man or woman feel good. You've accomplished something. Makes the day go faster. You have a sense of accomplishment. You have a sense of not being a mooch. So don't have the attitude of this sloth. Well, if you do, repent before you self-destruct and hurt others in the process. In the words of Ecclesiastes 7.18, it is good that thou shouldest take hold of this. Yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand, for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all. And that's really the bottom line. No one who's right with God can have this attitude of the sloth.
