Everything You Never Learned About Missions
Series Opening Up Acts
Continuing our expositIon of Acts, we come to the story of the sending Saul and Barnabus ont he church's first Gentile mission. What can we (re) learn from the church at Antioch's example?
Recall Acts 1:8 as an outline:
-Jerusalem and Judea (chs. 1–7)
-Samaria (chs. 8–12)
-Ends of the earth (chs. 13–28)
We can also divide Acts into:
-Ministry of Peter (chs. 1–12)
-Ministry of Paul (chs. 13–28)
- THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
"prophets and teachers" (13:1)—views on what this means:
o Some were prophets & some were teachers
o All were prophets & teachers
-And therefore acted as prophets at one time and teachers at another
-Or, they had the authority of prophets and acted this out in teaching
"the Holy Spirit said" (13:2)—several different ways we've read in Acts how the Spirit speaks: o ____________________(1:16;4:25)
o ____________________(4:8)
o ____________________(8:29;10:19;11:12)
o ____________________(11:28)
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CHURCH
Internal calling of the Spirit / External calling through the church
Notice the unity in diversity of the Antiochene Church (13:1):
o Barnabus
o Simeon, called "Black"
o Lucius of Cyrene
o Manaen, a lifelong firned of Herod the tetrarch
o SaulTHE IMPORTANCE OF PRAYER & FASTING
