Now there's lots of things that come our way that make a lot of noise. And so one would may ask the question, how do you drown out noise? Well, sometimes in life we hear things that we don't want to hear. And sometimes this noise, as it is, can be interfering with something that we really desire to hear. You ever been trying to pay attention to something or listen to something and then there was something on the outside that kept interfering with whatever it is that he was trying to listen to. And so you kept thinking, you know, and so you listened more intently and you looked more intently to do everything you can to take in exactly what it is that God wanted you to hear or exactly what it is that whatever it is that you're trying to get the information from that you wanted to hear. What I'm trying to say is that in our life, there are lots of things that interfere with the things that we're trying to see and pay attention to and trying to hear in life. And I believe that happens. I believe that happens in our walk with God. I believe as we're trying to serve God, you know, God's people, we go through different things, trials and tribulations in life, and just many things that really distract our attention and many things that make a lot of noise to get us to really get our eyes off God and get our ears away from the Lord and focus and pay attention to more of the things that are around us. So here tonight, as we look at Psalm 93, verses 1 to 5, what I'm actually going to do is after I read the verses and we sit down, I'm going to preach in the middle of a storm. And I have set up here this evening some sound effects of a storm that is taking place, lightning and rain and things like that. And so what I want us to do tonight is really understand what it's like when we hear the lightning and we hear the rain and we hear the thunder and all these things. Let those things be the things that are trying to distract you here tonight. Every time you hear it, those are the things that's trying to get your attention. Those are the things that are trying to drown out the voice of God. What I want you to do here this evening, and of course I don't want it to be too loud because I want you to hear what I've got to say, but I want you to hear this evening to hear the voice of God in the midst of the storm. I want you to hear the voice of God in the midst of the thunder, in the midst of the wind and in the midst of the rain and all of this, because in life, that's the reality of the situation. Things are not always quiet like we want them to be. Sometimes even when we try to find that quiet place along with God, we still hear the noise of our own thoughts and minds. We still hear it seems like the devil comes along and still tries to intervene in our prayer life as we're trying to spend time with God. And so what I want us to do tonight is read this verse that will sit down and play these things. And it's going to play the whole time, at least till the end anyways. But as it's playing, as I said, I want you to really try to listen to the voice of God in the midst of the storm. Psalm 93, verses 1 to 5, the Bible says, The Lord reigneth. He is clothed with majesty. The Lord is clothed with strength. Wherewith he hath girded himself. The world also is established that it cannot be moved. Thy throne established of old, thou art from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice. The floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters. Yea, than the mighty waters or the mighty waves of the sea. Thy testimonies are sure. Holiness becometh thine house. Oh, Lord, forever. Let us pray. Father, we come to you tonight. We thank you, Lord, for your goodness. Lord, I pray you'd help us this evening. Lord, as we hear your word in the midst of the storm, God, help us to focus on you and the things that are important in life. Lord, as we try to bring our situations into more reality in our preaching here this evening, God, as we hear the roar and the waves of things all around us, Lord, help us to focus on that which you need us to hear tonight. Lord, I pray this evening that you do a great work in our hearts and in our church this evening, and that, Lord, everything that we may be thinking about, Lord, everything that may be on our hearts tonight, Lord, that is weighing us down, all the waves that are crashing down in our life and the waters that are lifted up and the floods that are coming, that God, you'd help us to hear your voice in the midst of it all. Lord, we love you and we thank you for all that we know you're going to do, and this we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. In our text here tonight, one of the things that we see is that we see that the Bible says the Lord reigns. We think about that here this evening. We think about our lives here tonight. We just think about the situations that we're going through and the things that we're in. I think it's important for us tonight to understand that no matter the thunder that we hear, no matter the noise that is taking place, no matter what is going on all around us, that we do everything we can in life to tune out the noise that has turned on God. Because when things get loud and things begin to interfere with our walk with God and that which God is trying to speak to us about, when things begin to drown out the things that we are trying to enjoy, We want to make sure that we do all we can to be more focused and to be more attentive to that which God is trying to get us to hear and see. I believe in these moments in the world when things are really tiresome and things are really difficult. I believe in these moments and these verses that we look at here tonight can really help us as we think about what is it that God wants me to see and understand in the midst of these storms that I'm facing tonight. Psalm 93, the Bible says the Lord reigneth. And I'm very thankful just for those three words because the Bible tells us who it is that is reigning. Who is the one that is reigning? Listen, it's not our problems. Our problems are the ones that are reigning. Oftentimes we like to look at them and maybe it seems like they are. Sometimes it seems like the devil's winning. Like it seems like the devil's going to have the victory. But understand here tonight that in the midst of the storm, in the midst of the rain, in the midst of the floods, in the midst of the waves, in the midst of the thunder and lightning, that it is God that reigns, not the thunder, not the rain, not the waves, but it is God. So as we sit here tonight, we think about the things of life that are making a lot of noise, the things that are trying to distract us, and the things that are trying to get our minds all moved on. Let us here tonight hear the wonderful voice of the Lord, that in the midst of the storm, the Bible says, the Lord reigns. It is God that is in control. It is the Lord that is sitting on the throne. Let us not make our problems have a great, let us not let us not let our problems have a greater voice than the God we serve. The Bible shows us tonight, Psalm 93.1, that the Lord reigns. These noisome times in life, we see that. What does the Psalmist do? We look, we read verses one to five. We see that, we see that there's storms coming. We see the waves are lifted up. We see the floods are there and we see there's a lot of noise. There's a lot of things going on. But in the midst of all of that, the Psalmist does three things that I think to help us tonight. I want to give you these three truths tonight. Firstly, I want you to notice this look to his face. The Bible says there in verse one, notice the Bible says, the Lord reigneth, he is clothed with thanks. Now what is majesty? Now we think about what majesty is, what is that blessed authority that has the idea of sovereignty, the idea of supremacy, dignity, royalty, nobility, these types of things. I mean, does the Bible listen to you? He is king of kings and lord of lords, is he not? I mean, the Bible tells us the very first three words, the Lord reigneth. Because see, listen, in the midst of our problems, in the midst of the storms and the dark times, we have to understand that it is God that reigns. But as I said, the devil wants us to believe. He wants us to think through fear and all these different things that he is the one that reigns. That our problems are the one that reigns. That our challenges and obstacles that these are the things that are reigning in our lives. But in all reality, it's God that reigns. Because you see, if the devil can get our mind off the fact that it's God that reigns, that it's God that is in control, It is God that is the one that sits on the seat of the Lord. It is the God of heaven who is the one that reigns supreme, that is the King of kings. And Lord of Lords, listen, He's not just the King of kings of the empires and nations of this world, but He's the King of kings of all the kings that we've been through in the book of Joshua. He's the King of kings of our disparity, of our depression. He is the King of kings of our trials in life. We can get our minds in a position that will remember that it is God that reigns over all of us, that it will help us to really minimize our problems and maximize the greatness of our Father. In this psalm right here, the first three words, the Lord reigns. God is the one that has the power. God is the one that sits on the seat of authority. And so we see that not only does he reign, the Bible says, he is clothed with majesty. He is the king of kings, the Lord of lords, the Bible says in verse four. In speaking of the Lord, the Bible says that the Lord is on high. The high, the highness speaks of his position over all that there is. There in verse four, the Bible says, the Lord on high. is mightier than the noise of many waters. And so we see the majesty of our king, that he is the one that reigns, that he is the one that is up on high, that he is the king of kings. Not our problems. Listen, when David went out to fight Goliath, Goliath wasn't the king. He wasn't the one that was over all that there is, though he was a man that stood up in the face of God's people and challenged them, but he wasn't king. God was. And God showed him on the battlefield that day. Who did he was? But yet what did Goliath do every single day for 40 days? He walked out there and he stood out there and he began to cry out to God's people and ridicule them and put them down and challenge them. And he degraded our God for 40 days. His voice was loud for 40 days. He hollered into the ears of the people until one day a man stood up and said, no, who is this man that depies the armies of God? I wonder to this man, just like I did to the bear and just like I did to the lion. David recognized that the giant that stood in front of him was not the one that ran. It was the God of heaven. Even though the giant was noisy, even though the giant came out every single day, and even though the giant came out and discouraged the people of God and discouraged their hearts, there must come a moment when we decide and see and understand that we're not going to let the voice, we're not going to let the voice of our obstacles and challenges reign over the voice of God. that we're not going to let the voice of our obstacles and challenges be more supreme than the God that we serve. Because the Bible says, the Lord reigns. Not Goliath, but the Lord. Not your problems, but the Lord. The Lord reigns. The Bible says he is clothed with majesty, that he sits up on high. Listen, our problems are not above the throne of God. Our challenges are not above the throne of God. But yet the Bible says that his home is in essence in the heavens and that the earth is his footstool. He is the God of the heavens and that is where His throne is. And His throne is, He says, My throne is in my heaven. But the earth is mindless. So everything that is below, everything that is below this earth, it don't matter if it's the demons that are in it, or all the problems that are in the world. It don't matter how hard it's raining. It don't matter if the street is so white. It don't matter what the thunder or the lightning. It's all above our God. Our wrongs do not sit above the throne of God. We understand that it is the Lord that reigns. We maximize Him and make much of Him in our life. And the Bible says He is clothed with the majesty. Clothed. He sits in a position that is up high. This highness speaks of the position that he sits in, in relation to our problems and in relation to this earth. His majesty is over all that there is. Nahum chapter 1 verses 3 and 5, the Bible says, the Lord, listen now, listen to this, Nahum chapter 1 verse 3 and 5, the Bible says, the Lord has his way. God says, I'll have my way. You know why? Because he's the one that reigns. He is the one that sits on the throne. He is the one that is lifted up high. He is the one that is over our problems and tribulations. He is the one that is over all that there is. And the earth is essential and everything that is taking place down here. He is over top of all of that. And the Bible says in Nehemiah 10, verse 3 and 5, The Lord hath His way, and the world in it in the storm. And the clouds are the dust of His feet. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and dryeth up all the winters. The shen languisheth in Carmel, and the flowers of Lebanon languisheth. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence. Yea, yea, the world in all that dwell therein, that is his majesty. He is over all that dwells therein. There is no one that compares to our God. So we understand in life that one of the things that we need to see in the midst of our challenges is the fact that the Lord there in 93.1, the Bible says, the Lord reigneth. We hear the noise of many waters, and we hear the noise of the floods that have lifted up, and we hear the noise and see the waves that have risen up high. Let us never forget the position And the rank that God has above our problems and the rank and position that God has above our obstacles, the understanding that He will have His way in the storm and in the clouds of the dust of His feet. I mean, did He not lift Peter up out of the water and deliver him to safety? Did He not speak to the winds and the waves? And the Bible says that they obeyed His voice. Yes. Because the clouds and the dust of His feet. all of our problems, all of our challenges, and all of our dark days, all of the cloudiness, He says, I'll have my way. But I'm telling you tonight, the devil and the forces of darkness and the things out here in this world would get us to think that God's not reigning, that our challenges and our problems are greater and bigger and stronger. But I tell you here tonight that the Bible says that God reigns, the Lord reigns, and that He sits up on high, elevated, elevated above all that there is. Just don't let the devil get you so distracted tonight. close. See God where he's at. Listen to the voice of God. Don't let our problems outcry the voice of God. Don't let your problems be greater than the voice of God. Don't let your problems sit on the throne of God. The Bible says that the Lord, he reigns. So when we think about all these different things here tonight, we think about our life, we think about the problems and things that we have in our life. Think about Isaiah chapter 6, verse 1. The missionary spoke on it just a little bit the other week. He says, I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted up and His chain filled the temple. Once again, we see God lifted up on high. We see His victory in all the things that are underneath His feet. We see that there is none greater than Him. Seconds to you not only let us make sure that we don't mislead his back Let us make sure here tonight I'll sit there in verse 1 the Lord reigneth is clothed with the back The Lord is clothed Bible goes on to say where we look at this first, we see that we see that the Bible says that God is clothed with the majesty. We see that God is clothed with strength. The Bible says that in the midst of this, God even girded himself. You say, well, what does it mean that God has guarded himself? Well, just like then, many years ago, what they did then was when they wore the rugs, before they went out to battle or before they went out to move really fast, what they would do is they would take the rugs that they wore and they would tuck them in and fold them up and put them inside their belt so they would give them the ability to be able to run and move and to be active and to be unhindered by anything. And I want you to notice when we consider that, notice this text. Because we understand that the psalmist is in the midst of a storm. The psalmist sees the waves that are coming up. The psalmist hears the storms that are taking place. The psalmist sees the floods that are rushing in. And so the very first thing that he does in observing all these things is is he says, Lord, despite all that's going on, I know that you're the one that reigns. Despite all that's happening, God helped me to stay focused on you because I know that you're the one that's in control. And there in verse 20 says, you are clothed with majesty. You are sovereign over my situation. And the Bible says he is clothed with strength and that he girds himself. So we can see here, And this clothing that he's wearing, he's wearing the clothing of majesty, the clothing of strength against the guardian himself. And I want you to notice in this verse, no one who gained the cloth of clothing of majesty, he already is. Oftentimes, Maybe have somebody read the things I'm saying to you. Can you bring me my coat? Can you bring me my jacket? There was nobody to brought God out of sin. He was already slain. Nobody made God supreme. Nobody cloned God with strength. He already was strength. He is man's strength. He is The picture and the epitome of power. This is what he is. Nobody gave it to him. Nobody brought the Lord the robe of majesty he already wore it. Who else can hold a robe that is so majestic? Who else can clothe God with majesty? Nobody gave it to him. He already had it. God already possessed. Nobody gave him the clothing of strength. God is strength. He is the one that empowers. He is the one that is in control. He is the one that can do all things where nothing is impossible. So we serve a God that was clothed in majesty and strength. There wasn't nobody who gave it to him. He already possessed it. Not only that, the Bible says that he yarded himself at their feet. You know what that means? We see in this short five verses, we see the psalmist going through a terrible time. The floods and the rains and the thunder and the waves and all this stuff. He begins to look towards God and he says, God, in the midst of it all, I know that you're Lord, in the midst of it all, God, I'm going to stay focused on You. God, in the midst of it all, I know that You're the one that's in control. Nobody is stronger than You. Nobody is more powerful than You. And I know that my problems do not sit in a place of authority. I know that my problems are not elevated above Your throne. And so He shows us here in the text, God says, listen, He says, you know what? The Bible shows us that God girded Himself. You know what that means? When God sees us in our problems, when he sees the floods and he sees the waves and then he hears the storms and the lightning and the thunder, the Bible says that God girded himself. You know what that means? God girded himself. He clothed himself with majesty and strength. nobody could possibly give him such a thing. That whenever he clothed himself with majesty and strength in the midst of our problems, the Bible says that he began to, as he put on these garments of majesty, as he put on the garments of strength, the Bible says that he girded himself up. You know why? Because he was He was ready to press forward. He was ready to go through for his people. And I'm just trying to get you to see here tonight sometimes. We sit around and we say, does God know what I'm going through? Does God listen? Does God hear? Does God know what's happened? Yes. Let me tell you, He reigneth above all. Our problems are not above Him. He has confirmed Himself. And He is ready to step out unto the Savior. Amen. Praise the Lord. God's power doesn't come from anyone else. He prepared himself for his feet. Verse 4 of the Bible says, that He is mightier than the noise of many waters, and a God that is powerful, and a God that is mightier than anything. And the Bible shows us this in Jeremiah. Jot this down. Jeremiah 23, verse 27. As we think about Him being powerful, and we think about the waves that come in in our life, and we think about Him being mightier than the noise of many waters, Jeremiah 23, verse 27 says, is there anything too hard for God? They were not just free. He tells them to mentor. Bible continues to show us in Proverbs, chapter eight, verse 29, that in speaking of his power, The Bible says when he gave to the sea his decree, that the water should not pass his commandment, when he appointed the foundations of the earth. In other words, the Bible says that the seas obeyed the voice of God. And so when the trials of life, when they try to go further than what they desire to go, in essence, the Bible says that God says, no, you can't come with this You can't crash but so much. The waves can't get but so big. The Bible says He decrees and the seas and they listen to His commands. No matter what it is that tries to come in to drown out and flood God's people, God is the one that is in control. For He is the one that reigns and says, You cannot come. His voice is greater and milder than the spots and things in life that come in and try to cover up the voice of God. The psalm 29 speaks of His power, speaks of His voice. You understand the Lord Jesus there in the Gospels when the disciples were out there in the ship, they thought they were going to die. Chapter 27 verse 20 The apostle Paul's out there on the ship and they've done everything they could. The Bible says they've thrown all that they had, in essence, over all the ship. They're doing everything they can just to stay afloat. They've thrown everything off. And he says, we ain't seen the sun or the stars in many days. But then he says, below this night, there stood the angel of God. And so when he was in one of the worst times of his life, we ain't seen the sun or stars in many days, and we've unloaded the ship, and we're keeping everything we got just so we can stay afloat. He says, they say, you know, he says, lo, in the middle of the night, there was God, the angel of God stood right here beside me. Aren't you glad to hear that? And those thunderous, No matter how many waves coming, no matter how many storms in our life, it's fine. Jeremiah 5, 22, the Bible says, fear cannot be shaken. Will you not tremble in my presence? I mean, if there's anything in life that we need to be afraid of, it isn't our problems, the Bible shows us, because He reigneth over all. If there's anything in life that we need to fear, it is God Himself. I mean, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. And the Bible says, and listen, when we begin to fear God, and we begin to have wisdom, notice this, Jeremiah 5.22, fear ye not me. That's the question God's asking. He said, do you not fear me, said the Lord? Will you not tremble in my presence? Listen, we spend a lot of time trembling in the presence of our adversary. We spend a lot of time trembling in the presence of our challenges and our obstacles. But God says, listen, if I'm the one that reigns and you've got your focus and vision corrected and it's right, then listen, there's really only one thing you need to be. There's only one thing you need to tremble in. It is to be in my presence. He says in Jeremiah 5.22, he says, which says, Fear ye not me, saith the Lord, when ye not tremble at my presence, which hath placed the sin for the bale of the sea by a perpetual degree, that it cannot pass it. And though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet they cannot prevail. Though they roar, they cannot pass them. And so God has already made, with a perpetual decree, something that is true and you can trust Him that it cannot come this far. God says, I've already set the boundary. I've already drawn the line in the sand. This is as far as you can possibly go. And so if you're going to fear anything in life, make sure it's the God of heaven. It's finally here. 30 minutes. So in the midst of everything that we do, Let us make sure that we look to his majesty. Let us make sure we look to his might. But then let us make sure that we look to his message. Because the Bible says there in verse 9 that thy testimonies are very true. It wasn't anybody else's testimony. It wasn't anybody else's words. It wasn't the words of the world. It wasn't the words of men's opinions. But he says thy testimony, thy words, thy precepts, it is your words that are true. very first time. Not just something that is so stupid, but something you trust so much. He says in verse five that testimonies are very sure they can be counted on. They can be trusted in. And so in the storms of life, there is a message. The Bible says that in the storms of life shows us in these five verses that we need to recognize this message. But we also need to recognize His might. But we also need to recognize His message. Because let me tell you this, in the storms of life, the devil, the world, and your problems, they also want you to try to look at their message. They want you to look at their might. They want you to look at their message. But let me tell you something, that's completely opposite of what God's telling us tonight to look at. He says, look, He says, I'm the one that reads the Lord written. Focus on the ins and outs. focus on His might and then focus on His message and what is the message that God has for us. Amen. Hebrews 6.19. The Bible says tonight, here in our text, that this Bible is very short. And it makes you think about Hebrews 6.19. The Bible speaks of love, eternal love. And our name, why? The Bible says in Hebrews 6, 19, it says, which hope we have to make our soul both sure and steadfast. The Bible, in essence, teaches us that the Lord Jesus Christ, the one that died for us and gave us life. The Bible says that our Savior, that we can trust in him so much so that he is like an anchor to our soul, that the most valuable possession that we have is our very soul. And he says he is the anchor to our soul. So my anchor to my soul is where? It's not cast down into the depths of the sea. It's not cast into the shifting sands of the world. But no, my anchor is cast up into the heavens, that which is behind the veil of a broken place. God says the anchor that is so strong in the world is so strong, it is so strong that it can count. that our anchor isn't cast into this world and the ideologies and philosophies of men. It's not cast into none of these things, but the very thing, the very thing that anchors you tonight, listen, you're not anchored in yourself, but we are anchored into that which is behind the veil, the Holy of Holies, Lord Jesus. We are anchored to God, no matter which way this world moves. It's not just a little sure. The Bible says it is very sure. It is so sure. God is so sure. His message is so sure. message of the world. God's messages. All throughout the scriptures in the book of Joshua, you see that God urges his people to fear God. But the message of the world is, look at me, I'm greater than you, I'm more powerful than you, and yes, you may be, but you are not greater than the one that is in me. And I can do all things through Christ. And though you may, though my problems may be greater, and though I may face some Goliaths and they seem very tall and very great, they are not greater than my God. My God is very sheer. My anger is cast up into the heavens. to that which is behind the veil. My Bible tells me that the message, it shows us the message that God desires for us to have, is in the midst of our problems. Make sure that we look to his majesty. Make sure that we look to his might, because he is the one that tells the winds and the waves for peace to be still. He is the one that says they can't come but so far. He is the judge of all the earth. He is the one with the earth as its construction. that has his way in the world now. His message tonight is fear not, but to be strong and to be courageous. The noise of this world has the tendency to attack our minds and settle our hearts. When these things settle in our hearts, the noise gets louder, and gets louder, and gets louder, So when the message of the world gets founded, the devil says to fear and the world says to fear, we have to tune out the world and we got to turn up God. Listen, the devil shouts fear, but we have to return with a message from God. And we listen, we don't respond to the devil on our own, but yet we respond with a message from God. When the devil took Jesus in the wilderness, what did Jesus use to speak to the devil? He used his word. The more you do not share time with the devil, vices with the devil, the more you'll find yourself plugging your throughs from the turbulent stream. But He says, what you need to do, the Bible shows us to listen. In these trials and storms of life, God says, listen, what you need to do is heed my message and listen to that which I'm trying to get you to hear. The Bible says in Psalm 46, 1-3, jump this down, that God is our refuge and strength, our very present help in trouble. Therefore will we not fear, and though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. The Bible says, if you miss the moment, remember three things. You shall regret it. You shall shame it. You shall hate it. So open your eyes. Shut them down and close your eyes. And shout them. What are the five things you can do to get rid of this problem? Number one, how can I get louder? I can get louder in prayer. Number two, I can get louder in praise. Number three, I can get louder in my pain. Let's see what does that mean. Have you ever been to a place in your life where you were paying so much attention to the words of the Lord? But does not the Bible tell us what the Lord is? The Holy Spirit is our Lord and He is our Lord and we love Him. So even when you can't put into words what the Lord is, God knows what you're trying to say. Therefore, in patience, sometimes our silence speaks volumes. I hear all of this. All of this begins to take place in my life. The devil does all he can to distract. Get us to lose focus. I turn to prayer. I turn to praise. I turn to the groanings of my pain that the Holy Spirit of God knows. And I turn to the patience in my life and that I need to wait on God. And then I also turn to the proclamation that I speak truth and I speak power. God is our refuge. I was sitting in the house, praying over the missiles, asking God to bless. I'm sitting there, I get a phone call. Got my Bible loaded. I'm sorry, guys. I got to apologize to you. I see what you've been doing now. I see what you've been doing now. I see what you've been doing now. I see what you've been doing now. I began to explain to him the verses of this song. I've got nine. Prayed. I was hoping you'd let me know. You can call me back a little bit later. This is how you do it. Copy three times today. And after we went through this right here, prayed, read the scriptures together with us, it's time to read the Bible. Last time he called me, he said I'm going to die. He said everything he knew, he was going to kill someone. And I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. Today, the place he got saved is called the Bell Charter of Bethlehem. He went there thinking that his life was passed by, thinking his life was over. But then God changed his life and got saved. He solved it. He didn't have to let all of this to drown out the voice of God. So he led the Mississippi Garden Mission and started 60 other rescue missions for men such as himself. In 40 cities.
