I'd like to welcome you to our
service if you'd like to find your place in Psalms chapter
93, Psalms chapter 93. I trust that you had a good resurrection
Sunday. The Lord surely blessed our efforts
here and I trust he received all the honor and glory. I'm
glad we serve a risen savior and there's hope beyond that
great stone and as those ladies made their way to the to the
sepulcher, they had something on their mind. And who will help
us to get the stone out of the way? Many people are facing stones,
great stones, great difficulties, and sometimes it's circumstances
in their life that seem insurmountable or unsurpassable, and they need
help. And I'm glad there's help through
our risen Savior, because when those ladies got to that sepulcher,
I tell you, everything changed for them. They found a renewed
purpose and renewed strength. They weren't wondering no more.
They immediately went and told others about what had happened
and what had took place. I'm glad for the hope that we
have in Jesus. There's hope beyond. that great
stone or whatever it is you're facing in this life. There's
hope beyond all that because our Savior is risen. And I thank the Lord that He's
interceding for us. And kind of in the same line
to tonight's message, I would like for us to look at this word,
noise. And Psalms 93 is only five verses. and if you'd like to find your
place there, Psalms 93. The title of the message is,
What's That Noise? Have you ever been startled by
a noise, or even you were afraid because of something that you
heard, and it wasn't nothing concrete, it wasn't nothing that
could affect you, it was just a noise, but yet, it scared you. And may the Lord help us as we
look into this passage tonight and to look to the Lord because
He reigns. And that's the first words that
we see here, the Lord reigneth. in verse 1, and just remember
that no matter what you hear, no matter what comes your way,
the Lord reigns, and He's mightier than anything that can come against
you. And look to Him. Look to your
Deliverer. Don't look to your distress.
Look to your Deliverer for help. In Psalms 93, in verse 1, it
says, The Lord reigneth. He is clothed with majesty. The
Lord is closed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself. The world also established that
it cannot be moved. Thy throne is established of
old, thou art from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O
Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice, the floods lift
up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier
than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of
the sea. Thy testimonies are very sure. Holiness becometh thine house,
O Lord. forever. As I mentioned, I'm
interested in that little word found in verse four, that word
noise. It's a short psalm, but it lays
out a great truth for us because we live in a day where there's
a whole lot of noise going on. If you turn the news on, then
there's gonna be a lot of noise coming from your TV set, from
these broadcast stations, and there's noise every day of rumors
of war. There's noise of dissension. There's noise of division. There's
noise of death and noise of destruction. noise of disasters and noise
of danger all around and the noise, and it's not even talking
about the noise that comes from social media and comes off the
internet and how it's distracted and distorted. Many Christians
today, they're affected by that noise. for the noise of influencers
have captivated the minds and hearts of our young people. Unfortunately,
the average young Christian is more caught up with the noise
that's coming from the world than they are hearing the word
of God. Our young people know more about
Hollywood, they know more about Taylor Swift, they know more
about who's who on TikTok than they do about Elijah, than they
do about Elisha, They know more about this world and everything
that's happening in this world. Why? Because they're caught up
with some noise. And that's all it is. Hollywood
is just a noise. It's just passing through. It's
not gonna last. Taylor Swift and all these other
music sensations there in the world's eyes, hey, they're just
passing through. They're not gonna last. but yet
we're caught up with the noise of what's going on around us.
But yet we don't know nothing about Elijah and Elisha, Jeremiah,
Isaiah, Ezekiel, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. What do you know
about them? I'm talking about something that
comes from a book that's forever settled. It's been preserved
to every generation, but yet, We spend more time on the temporal
things and knowing things that's not gonna help us in this life
over knowing the word of God. Our young people, I'm talking
about our Christian young people. They know more about the songs
that are coming out of Nashville than they do the word of God. It's sad, it's a sad day we're
living in. They know more about the latest,
greatest singer come out from American Idol than they know
about God's word. They're more affected by the
noise that comes from the world than they are hearing the word
of God. We need a revival today of just
turning off the noise in our life and hearing from the Lord. I dare say that if the average
Christian was given an ultimatum to choose between their Bible,
their Bible, or their cell phone, and everything that comes with
that cell phone, social media, and the internet, the entertainment,
I wonder, I just wonder which one they'd choose. I wonder which
one they'd value more. I know what the answer would
be. What do you spend the most time with, your Bible or your
phone? You want to see how rebellious your children or grandchildren
really are? Do you want to see the rebellion
that lies within them? Take their cell phone away. Take
away their electronics and watch that rebellion pop up. We've been inundated with so
much noise, and here's the sad thing, that we've become numb
to what's being said. We're living in the last of the
last days. We're living in perilous times.
They're all around us, but this psalms right here, this short
psalm reminds us that no matter how loud the noise gets around
us, that the Lord Reigneth. That word reign means to possess
or exercise sovereign power or authority to rule, to hold the
supreme power. Sovereign, that word sovereign.
You know what that means when it relates to God? It means that
God does what he wants to, when he wants to, how he wants to
do it, and he does not need your permission to do it. Hey, the
Lord reigneth, and what may seem overwhelming to us is but noise
to the Lord. Why? Because he is sovereign
over everything. Oh, the floodwaters of sin, as
we read in our chapter here, how the floods have lifted up,
and the floods have come in, and they're just devastating,
overwhelming. Here in our country, the floodwaters
of sin have overwhelmed our communities, they've overwhelmed our homes. The floodwaters of alcohol and
drugs and immorality are destroying families across our country. Oh, the floodwaters of false
religions have done more harm to our society than anything
else. The floodwaters of worldliness
and carnality have infiltrated our churches because they've
already overrun the home. There's more Christians today
turning away from the doctrines and the traditions that's been
handed down to us than they are holding fast to our shame. In 2 Timothy 4 verse 3 it says,
for the time will come, and that time is now, that time is here,
that they will not endure sound doctrine. They can't take it.
They can't take preaching on sin. They can't take preaching
on the truth of God's word. But after they're all lost, shall
they hate themselves teachers? You know, the thing with teaching,
it don't bring much conviction. Now, it's necessary. I mean,
we have great Sunday school teachers here, and occasionally I teach
from the pulpit as we preach, but can I just say, most of the
time, teaching does not bring much conviction. Now, it's important,
we need it, we need to learn the Word of God so that we can
properly apply it to our lives and rightly divide it. Hey, but
can I just say, the preaching of God's Word is what people
are running away from. They don't want to hear it. Why?
Because it's going to bring conviction on their life. It's going to
demand a response from them. And the Bible says that they
shall turn away their ears from the truth. And they shall be
turned unto fables. And that's what we're living
in today, entertainment. You should have seen the sickening
things that took place in so-called quote-unquote churches on Resurrection
Sunday. The plays that were put on and
the shows that were put on, the music that was played that didn't,
you wouldn't have, you would have not known you was in a church
service had you been there. casual Christianity and a casual
approach to the things of God has overrun our churches. There's
no difference between the holy and the unholy. I tell you, we're
living a day where just anything goes. Hey, someone showed me,
like I said, some of what some of these churches did, and I'm
telling you, it's scary. It's scary there. Pure entertainment. Hey, the truth is irrelevant.
Just whatever feels good to the flesh, that's what they went
with. You know, sometimes in our life,
as we read through this passage about this noise, sometimes all
it takes is the noise of something for us to lose it and get overwhelmed. Well, when COVID first come on
the scene, all you had to do is just mention a symptom of
COVID. Symptoms that had been around
for years. I mean years, but yet you mentioned
that symptom, or even mentioned that you knew someone, or sat
close to someone, even though you was nowhere near them, but
they were exposed to COVID, and I promise you the noise of that
caused a pure state of panic among people. And all there was
was noise. It was just noise, but yet, all
of a sudden, they panicked. Oh, if we're not careful, we'll
allow ourselves to become overwhelmed by the noises that we hear. So how do you cope with the noises
in our life? And I mean, sometimes those noises,
I mean, they can be overwhelming. They can be very daunting in
our life. But according to our passage
here, the first thing that we notice is if we're gonna cope
with the noises in our life and how to deal with these noises,
we're gonna have to look to the one who is unaffected by the
noise. I mean, totally unaffected. Look
at verse four. The Lord on high is mightier
than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of
the sea. Boy, when you go back to that
New Testament story when Jesus came to the disciples who were
in pure panic there on the sea, And Peter said, hey, bid me come
to thee. And Peter got off the boat and
he started walking toward Jesus. But at what point did he begin
to sink? It's when he allowed himself
to be distracted by the noise of the boisterous wind. The Bible
says that he saw the wind. Oh, what happened is this. He
took his eyes off Jesus. Oh, but did you notice in that
story, and many of you know that story, He didn't turn around
to the ones on the boat for help. Now what'd he do? Hey, he turned
to the only one that could help him, to the only one that was
unaffected by what was going on in their life. I'm not gonna
find help from somebody who's affected in the same way that
I am. No, he called out to Jesus. Why? Because Jesus was unaffected
by the wind and the waves. Who are you going to turn to
when the noise is... when the floods come into your
life, and I mean, and the noise comes, and I'm telling you what,
and you're all of a sudden, you're just feeling overwhelmed by the
thoughts even, maybe our own thoughts overwhelm. Who you gonna
turn to? You gonna turn to someone else
that can subject to the same thing as you, or you gonna turn
to the one that's mightier? Mightier than the noise that
surrounds you. When the noisest noises of this
life appear to overwhelm us, then we must look to the one
who's mightier than the noise of many waters. Boy, how often
do you catch yourself looking at the distress in your life
instead of looking at the deliverer? You know, something happens,
and boy, all of a sudden, the panic sets in, and things are
happening in our life, and you look to your wallet. Well, you
look to your own understanding. You look to your own abilities,
and you're trying to start figuring things out to your own, you look
at your own wisdom, and your own understanding, and our own
limitations even. You will look to that. where
we ought to be looking to the Lord. Why? Because he's mightier
than the voices of many water. The Lord reigneth, his throne
is established of old. That word established means set. There's no panic in heaven. It's
fixed firmly, it's founded, it's ordained, it's enacted, it's
confirmed. When we're overwhelmed by the
noise of many waters, then we'd better look to the one who is
unaffected by that noise. Number two, we'd better heed
the voice of the one who is unaffected by the noise. Because you can
either listen to that noise and be miserable and have no hope,
or you can turn to his voice and hear what he has to say. Look at verse five. He says,
thy testimonies are very sure. Holiness becometh thine house,
O Lord, forever. Let me read you this quote from
the Treasury of David. It says, O learn, therefore,
to try God in his strength, to trust him in difficulties, And
when the merciless waves are ready to swallow thee, commit
thyself to his custody. The mariner in straits looks
up to heaven, do thou so. And remember that when the waters
of affliction are never so high, yet the Lord on high is mightier
than the... than they. Where do you get confidence
in these times of trouble when the noises of this life seem
to overwhelm you? You're gonna have to go to something
that's sure. You're gonna have to go to something
that's unmovable. You're gonna have to go to something
that stood the test of time. You better turn to his voice. You better turn to him. You better turn to the word of
God. If you would, turn to Psalms
chapter 119. Psalms 119 and verse 14. Many times in this Psalm, you're
gonna find the word testimonies. He says, thy testimonies are
sure. What's he talking about? Hey,
pastor, you don't understand all these different things. I'm
hearing all these things, but hey, what are you gonna focus
on? You wanna focus on something
that is sure or just something that you're hearing that's just
passing by? In Psalms 119, 14, it says, I
have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies as much as in all
riches. Oh, let me tell you something.
In this life, you're gonna face different noises. There's gonna
be floods that are gonna come into your life, floods of sadness
and floods of hurt and floods of pain and discouragement. I'm
telling you, it's gonna overwhelm your soul. But what are you gonna
do in those days? I'm gonna tell you, if you ever
tried to stand in the flood, you ain't gonna stand long, but
you can stand on the word of God. Even though it may feel
like you're being overwhelmed in your life by the floods and
circumstances and distractions and even the heartaches of this
life, just know that his testimony is a sure place for you to run
to. Hey, you just run to the word
of God. Why, because there's joy in the
way of his testimonies. You'll find that God's word will
bring you joy in the difficulties and the hurts of life. In verse
22 it says, remove me from reproach and contempt for I have kept
thy testimonies. That word remove means take me
out of it. That means he's gotten into it.
That means somebody has reproached him. Someone has brought contempt
toward him. But this is what he says. I have
kept thy testimonies. What are you going to do when
the noise of reproach and contempt comes into your life? In 2 Timothy
3.12 it says, Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus
shall suffer persecutions, what you gonna do when the noises
of opposition, the noise of criticism, the noise of false accusers,
the noise of private men and women and the voice of even family
members and voices of church members cut you to pieces, what
are you gonna do? How you gonna handle that? I'm
gonna tell you, you better keep his testimonies. You better just
keep serving God. Oh, because if not, you'll allow
yourself to be overwhelmed by those floodwaters when they come.
And it's going to carry you away from where you was at. But when
the devil comes to you and tells you, hey, you're not worthy,
Hey, you're a weak Christian. He comes to you and says you're
a failure. Hey, you're just a sinner. Hey, you're not the Christian
that you think you are. Hey, I'm going to tell you what
you're going to do when those times come. I'm going to tell
you, you better just keep his testimonies. Hey, you just keep
living for God. Why? Because he reigns. You better remind the devil who
you serve. You don't serve him. You serve
the one that reigns. You're serving the one whose
throne is established of old. You're serving the one that is
mightier than the noise of many waters. You just tell that old
devil that all he is is noise. He's just noise. Turn to Romans
chapter eight. Romans chapter eight, verse 33. Boy, this is what you give him
right here. Remember, you gotta go to his testimonies. That's
sure, this is where you're gonna find help. This is what's gonna
help you stand when you're feeling overwhelmed and the floods of
this life have just taken over. You better turn to his testimonies
because they're sure. In Romans 8, 33, it says, who
shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that
justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It
is Christ that died, yea, rather, that is risen again, who is even
at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for
us. Who shall separate us from the
love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress,
or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, for thy sake
we are killed all the day long. We're accounted as sheep for
the slaughter, Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors
through Christ, through him that loved us. For I'm persuaded that
neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor
depth, nor any creature shall be able to separate us from the
love of God which is in Christ Jesus. Hey, can I just remind
you that when it feels like the floods of this life are overwhelming
you, you better go to Romans chapter eight and be reminded
that there's nothing that can come against you unless this
went through our Lord. And he's allowed into your life
for a very specific reason. And nothing will separate you
from the love of God. Oh, turn to Job. Turn with me
to Job chapter 23. Boy, what did Job say when he
had lost everything? I mean, and his wife and his
friends had brought reproach and contempt on him. That's all
they did. They reproached him and brought
contempt. What do you do when the noise
just comes in as a flood and you think that's all he heard?
What did he do? In Job 23 in verse 8 it says,
Behold, I go forward, but he's not there. And backward, but
I cannot perceive him. On the left hand, where he doth
work, but I cannot behold him. He hideth himself on the right
hand, that I cannot see him. but he knoweth the way that I
take. And when he hath tried me, I
shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps. His way have I kept and not declined. Neither have I gone back from
the commandments of his lips. I have esteemed the words of
his mouth. more than my necessary food. Do you see what kept Job going
through the most difficult times of his life? And though he was
reproached, and though contempt was brought against him, he just
kept God's word, and he esteemed the words of his mouth more than
his necessary food. And I'm gonna tell you, it kept
Job going. and it'll keep you going as well.
Go back to Psalms 119, Psalms 119, verse 24, it says, thy testimony
also are my delight. And that's not just in the good
times, that's in the bad times. And my counselors, you need wisdom. Do you have something in your
life that you need wisdom? You need instruction? You need
direction? You need advice? You need counsel?
You better go to his testimonies. Why? Because they're sure his
word has never failed. In verse 31 it says, I have stuck
unto thy testimonies, O Lord, put me not to shame. Verse 36,
incline my heart unto thy testimonies and not to covetousness. And
verse 46, I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings
and will not be ashamed. Verse 59 says, I thought on my
ways and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. Verse 79 says,
let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have
known thy testimonies. Hey, if you keep his testimonies,
then it'll put you in association with some of the best people
that you've ever met. God's people are the best people. Hey, we're not without flaws.
We are not perfect. but we are part of the same family. Hey, the best friends that I've
ever had are saved people who were living for the Lord. Oh,
in Psalms 119.95, it says, the wicked have waited for me to
destroy me. Well, what you gonna do when
those noises and those floodwaters come against you? This is what
the psalmist says, but I will consider Thy testimonies. In verse 99, it says, I have
more understanding than all my teachers, for thy testimonies
are my meditation. Verse 111 says, Thy testimonies
have I taken as an heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of
my heart. In Psalms 119, verse 119, it
says, Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross.
Therefore, I love thy testimonies. He's on the right side of things,
if you notice that. In verse 125, it says, I am thy
servant. Give me understanding that I
may know Thy testimonies, verse 129 says, thy testimonies are
wonderful, therefore doth my soul keep them. Verse 138 says,
thy testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very
faithful. I promise you that when the floods
come into your life and it seems like the noise of this life of
circumstances and distress comes your way, you'll find help in
the word of God. You'll find that he is what he
said he is and his promises are true. In verse 144 it says, the
righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting. Hey, give me
understanding and I shall Oh, verse 146 says, I cried unto
thee, save me, I shall keep thy testimonies. Hey, I tell you,
he'll help you, and then he'll help you keep his testimonies.
In verse 152, it says, concerning thy testimonies, I have known
of old that thou hast founded them forever. In verse 157, it
says, many are my persecutors and mine enemies, yet do I not
decline. from thy testimonies. Hey, my
soul hath kept thy testimonies, and I love them exceedingly. I have kept thy precepts and
thy testimonies for all my ways are before thee. Hey, how are
you going to survive the noise of many waters? I'm going to
tell you how you do it. You make much of the word of
God. Hey, you make much of the things of God. You make much
of the one that reigneth. You set your eyes on the one
whose throne is established of old. Hey, you go and get your
strength from him. Why? Because he's mightier. He's
mightier than the noise of many waters. That's what David said
when he faced Goliath. Hey, he said, I hear the noise
down there. I hear what that uncircumcised
Philistine is saying about my God. Hey, but I know one that's
stronger than him, and by his grace and through his strength,
he'll give me the victory today. Why? Because he's mighty. than
the noise of many waters. Hey, no matter what comes your
way, no matter how many people turn their ears from the truth
and are turned unto fables and leave the faith, no matter how
many Christians turn away from the truth of God's word, you
just keep trusting God's word. In an unsettled world, there's
one thing that's sure. He said, thy testimonies are
very sure. What's gonna happen in America
this election year? What's gonna take place? And
I mean, I've already heard noise about different things that's
gonna happen. I'm gonna tell you what I'm gonna do. I'm just
gonna trust God's word. Why? Because his testimonies
are very sure. And then it goes on to say, holiness
becometh thine house, O Lord, forever. In verse five, I'm gonna
read you a closing quote here from the treasury of David. on
verse five. Thy testimonies are very sure. As in providence, the throne
of God is fixed beyond all risk. So in revelation, his truth is
beyond all question. Other teachings are uncertain,
but the revelations of heaven are infallible. As the rocks
remain unmoved amid the tumult of the sea, So does divine truth
resist all the currents of man's opinion and the storms of human
controversy. They are not only sure, but the
Bible says they are very sure. Glory be to God, we have not
been deluded by a cunningly devised fable. Our faith is grounded
upon the eternal truth of the Most High God. And then that
last part of the verse, it says, holiness becometh thine house,
O Lord, forever. Truth changes not in doctrines,
which are very sure. But get this, nor holiness in
its precepts, which are incorruptible. The teaching and the character
of God are both unaltered. God has not admitted evil to
dwell with him. He will not tolerate it in his
house. The church must remain unchanged
and forever be holiness unto the Lord. Sacred unto the Lord
is the church of Jesus Christ, and so shall she be kept forevermore. The Lord reigneth. Jehovah reigns
is the first words and the main doctrine of this psalm. And if
you notice that holiness is the final result. A due esteem for
the great king will lead us to adopt a behavior becoming his
royal presence. The whole psalm is most impressive
and is calculated to comfort the distressed, confirm those
who are destitute of courage, and to assist the devout. No matter what happens to you
personally or what happens even in our country or across the
world, don't ever forget the Lord reigneth. His throne is
established of old. He is mightier than the noise
of many waters. Here in our country, this year
could possibly be the most devastating year we've ever faced. But we
must not succumb to the noise of many waters. Why? Because
God is mightier than those. Maybe you're suffering some reproach
or contempt tonight. Go to His Word and just find
comfort in the fact that your advocate, Jesus Christ, is interceding
on your behalf with the Father. Listen to what He has to say
over the voice or noises of many waters. Whatever flood may come
into your life, Can I just remind you that there is a God in heaven
that is mightier than they are. Don't spend too much time stressing,
evaluating your distress. Just look to the one who is gonna
lift you up and deliver you.
What’s that noise?
Psalm 93 " The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.
2 Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.
3 The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.
4 The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.
5 Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever."
