Hello again and welcome to the program. We're here with a little strength for today. We've been looking at studying the Bible. We're looking at a book. A particular book is the book of Jude. Have your Bible ready. Jude chapter one and verse number one says, Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father and preserved in Jesus Christ and called. And so once again, in studying the scriptures, we should ask ourselves, who's talking to whom? Is he talking and what is he saying? We know who's talking here or who's writing this letter. It's verse number one says his name is Jude. He's first mentioned back in Matthew chapter 13 and verse number 55, where Jesus was talking to people and they didn't understand how he could be so intelligent. They said, is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James and Hosea and Simeon and Judas, which is referring to the name called Jude here in Jude chapter one. And so he was one of what we would call the half brothers of Jesus. He grew up in the same family as what Jesus was in, but he didn't like him. None of the brothers liked him. In fact, we read in Mark chapter 6 and verse number 3, they said, is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Hosea and Judah? That's this Jude that we're referring to here in this book. And Simeon, and they went on to say, are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. It is interesting that none of the half brothers or half sisters of Jesus believed in him. But if we fast forward to Acts chapter one, after the resurrection, we read in verse 13, and when they were come in, they went up into an upper room where abode both Peter and James and John and Andrew and Philip and Thomas and Bartholomew and Matthew and James the son of Alpheus and Simeon and Judas the brother of James. This is the same one called Jude in the book that we're studying. Verse 14 goes on to say and all Verse 14 goes on to say, these all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication with the women, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, with his brethren. Now they all believe on him, and I think the women referred to here are the sisters that are referred to back in this previous scripture we read. And so once again, back in Jude, verse number one, this Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, the brother of James. Jude referred to himself as the servant of Jesus Christ. The word servant here means bond slave. That is quite a comparison when we look back to when he was in the same family as Jesus and didn't believe on him at all. It also says in verse one that he was a brother of James. It's interesting that phrase, brother of, occurs in the scriptures seven times in the New Testament and always refers to James. And so reading through verse number one again, we read, Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, the brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father and preserved in Jesus Christ and called. To be sanctified simply means to be set apart. To be preserved is to be saved for future use. And to be called, we are all called as Christians. Writing to the church at Corinth, Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1-2, under the church of God, which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus and called. In Galatians 1 and 6, he said, I marvel that you are so soon removed from him that called you. To the Ephesians, he said in Ephesians 4, 1, I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called. In 1 Thessalonians 2, 12, Paul said that you would walk worthy of the God who has called you. And then Jude begins this little book saying, Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father and preserved in Jesus Christ and called. And so we're saved to serve. We need to do what the Bible says. We need to say, hear my Lord Jesus and me. What wilt thou have me to do?
