Pray that all of you've had a good week in the Lord and pray that God has been mighty good to you and you realize it and thankful for it. And we don't have to wait till Thanksgiving to be thankful. Thanksgiving is a time every day of our lives. If we look around, there's a lot to be thankful for and sure do appreciate God's goodness and his mercy to us. Revelation chapter 16 tonight, I want you to remember that the book of Revelation is a book of the future, a book about our future. And the tribulation that Jesus spoke about in Matthew chapter 24 began in Revelation chapter 6. and it's going to be carried through and described in detail through chapter 19. Chapter 19 ends with the second coming of Jesus Christ to this earth, and that'll end the tribulation period, and then the kingdom age will begin. AND THE BOOK OF REVELATION IS LAID OUT IN A CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER OF EVENTS AND YOU CAN KNOW WHAT IS COMING NEXT BY THE BOOK OF REVELATION. YOU CAN UNDERSTAND BECAUSE OF THE ORDER THAT THE BOOK OF REVELATION IS LAID OUT IN. AND REVELATION CHAPTER 16 IS OUR FINAL ACCOUNT OF THE TRIBULATION AND THE WRATH OF GOD BEING POURED OUT ON THIS EARTH. MATTER OF FACT, THESE...THIS CHAPTER WILL COVER PROBABLY THE LAST SIX MONTHS OF THE TRIBULATION PERIOD, MAYBE... MAYBE A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN THAT. BUT IT'S GROWING IN INTENSITY AND IT'S GROWING IN IT'S ULTIMATE FINAL PHASE OF THE TRIBULATION. SO WE WANT TO LOOK AT REVELATION CHAPTER 16 TONIGHT. LET ME SAY SOME THINGS AND THEN WE'LL GET INTO THE TEXT AND STUDY IT TOGETHER TONIGHT. When asked about the sign of His coming and the end of the world in Matthew chapter 24, Jesus told His disciples to take heed that no man deceived them. He described for them a time when there would be wars, rumors of war, nations rising against nations, and kingdoms against kingdoms. He also told them that there would be famines, pestilences, earthquakes in different places, and hatred would abound. Then the Lord told them that there was coming a great tribulation to this world like no one has ever seen before. CHAPTER 16 DESCRIBES THE FINAL PHASE OF THAT TRIBULATION PERIOD IN DETAIL. SO FAR IN THE BOOK OF REVELATION WE HAVE SEEN A WORLD WHICH HAS BEEN RUINED BY MAN AND ALSO RULED BY SATAN. AND NOW IN CHAPTER 16 WE'RE GOING TO SEE A WORLD THAT IS GOING TO BE REVENGED BY GOD. God created this world and let man have dominion over his creation to enjoy all the fruits of his blessings. But man has rejected this creator throughout every generation in greater masses than those who have received him. Now in our generation, man is getting bolder in this rejection, even to the point of trying to legislate God out of every facet of their life and create their own laws to live by. And man wonders what is wrong. They question, why do we have so many devastating problems today? The simple truth to it all is found in Paul's epistle to the Romans in the book of Romans. In Romans chapter 1, verses 21 through 23, Paul wrote these words. Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man. So this Creator God is going to revenge them to the full for their defilement of His glory. The vows we are about to study are normally used in temple worship of the true and living God, but now they will be filled to the full of the wrath of God. They are about to be poured out with such vengeance that no man will be allowed in the temple of heaven until God is through with the seven last plagues. Slide number two, Brother Chris. First, we want to look at, in verse number 1, a voice from heaven. In Revelation 16, 1, the Word of God says it like this, and I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, go your ways and pour out of the vows of the wrath of God upon the earth. John hears a voice come out of the temple. Since no one is allowed into the temple at this time, this is none other than the voice of God himself. This voice speaks directly to the seven angels who hold the seven last vows full of the wrath of God. Some cannot conceive of God as being a God of wrath. They think of Him only as a God of love, and He is, but He is also a God of wrath. As the old saying goes, if you love flowers, you hate weeds. There are certain things that God hates. He is not a politically correct God, even though modern man tries to make him so. Man has concocted a God made in their own image, but the true and living God is a God of great wrath. God has given us examples in the Word of God of this wrath and its outcome. In Genesis chapter 6 through 8, the account is given of the wrath of God during the flood in the days of Noah. I want you to listen to this out of the book of Genesis, the book of beginnings, the book where we learn about the creation of God. In the first six chapters, we read, These words, verses five through seven, it says, And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord, that it made man on the earth. And it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the air. For it repenteth me that I have made them. Then in chapter 7, verses 19 through 23, the Word of God tells us this, And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth, and all the high hills that were under the whole heaven were covered. 15 cubits upward did the waters prevail, and the mountains were covered. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. And every man, all in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land died. And every living substance was destroyed, which was upon the face of the ground, both man and cattle and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven. And they were destroyed from the earth, and Noah only remained alive. and they that were with him in the ark. Can you see God's wrath in these verses, Genesis chapter six and Genesis chapter seven? I believe in this age in which we live, we need to be reminded that God is holy and God hates sin just as much as he did back in the Old Testament. God still hates sin today and God is a God of wrath. you Another example of the wrath of God is found again in Genesis chapter 19. In Genesis 19 verse 24 and 25, we read these words. And the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven. And he overthrew those cities and all the plain and all the inhabitants of the cities and that which grew upon the ground. In Jude, verse number 7, we read these words. It says, Even as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. God describes his wrath in the book of Jeremiah, chapter 21, verse 5 and verse 6. And he says, and this is God speaking, he said, and I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and in fury and in great wrath. and I will smite the inhabitants of the city, both man and beast. They shall die of a great pestilence. No wonder the Bible tells us in the book of Hebrews, chapter 10, in verse 30 and 31, it says, For we know him that has said, Vengeance belongeth unto me. I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. So God commands the seven angels to pour out their seven vials containing the wrath of God upon the earth. Our study of the dispensation known as the tribulation began in chapter 6 of Revelation. Now the final judgments upon the Antichrist and his followers are about to be viewed in the chapter before us. The next slide, Brother Chris. Secondly, we want to consider verses 2 through 17, the vows of the angels. Let's read it together. It said, and the first went, talking about the angel with the vow, and the first went and poured out his vow upon the earth. And there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshiped his image. And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea, and it became as the blood of a dead man. And every living soul died in the sea. And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters, and they became blood. And I heard the angel of the water say, Thou righteous, O Lord, which art and was, and shalt be, because thou hast judged us. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink. for they are worthy. And I heard another out of the altar say, even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments. And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun, and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues. And they repented not, to give him glory. And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast, and his kingdom was full of darkness. And they gnawed their tongues for pain, and blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not. of their deeds. And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates, and the water thereof was dried up, and the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast, out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, watch it, working miracles. Did you see that? Devils working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue, Armageddon. And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air. And there was a great voice out of the temple of heaven from the throne, saying, It is done. The first angel pours out his vial upon the earth, and there falls a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast and them which had worshipped the image of the beast. The word noisome carries the meaning to render worthless or depraved. It also means hurtful and destructive. It also carries the meaning of offensive to the smell and other senses and disgusting. And the word grievous means wickedly harmful. Little did the ones taking the mark of the Antichrist realize, but they were taking a mark that would begin to spread all over their body as a festering, painful, horrible, putrefying, and incurable cancer. They were warned that there would be no rest. Now their bodies are racked with a pain that consumes their lives day and night. We'll stop right there and just say something before we go any further. I remember before I was saved, I was reading some church tracts that some guys were leaving at the roundhouse where I worked for the railroad. It was called the roundhouse. It was where they would work on locomotives. And these guys were leaving little gospel tracks and when nobody knew about it, I would go by and pick them up and put them in my pocket. And then when I'd get on a locomotive by myself, I would read those tracks. Well, I would be reading the tracks and some of those tracks would deal with end times, times like we're reading about in the book of Revelation chapter 16. And I'd read about the Mark of the Beast, where Deb and I had just become parents. Our firstborn son, Corey, was born into our lives and he was just over a year old, probably. And I was working hard, trying to make a living for our family. Deb was staying home to raise our children. And I was reading about the Mark of the Beast, and I began reading that if you didn't take the mark, you would not be able to buy or sell. And as a lost man, I made up my mind. I said, I'm gonna take that mark because I'm gonna provide for my family. And just as sure as I'm standing behind this pulpit tonight, God's voice spoke to me and began dealing with my heart. I'd be thinking, I'm gonna take the mark of the beast and I'd hear God's voice and it said this to me, you'll go to hell, you'll go to hell. Well, I didn't wanna go to hell. I was determined I could believe what I was reading in those little gospel tracts. I could believe that the mark of the beast was coming. I could see as a lost person, I could see the need to go to a cashless society, which we are rapidly going to in our hour that we're living. They're already talking about cryptocurrency and digital dollars. because of this pandemic that we're living in right now. Our economy, not just of America, but of the world has been affected by this pandemic. And I could see that we would go to a cashless society. And I'd get to thinking, I'll take that mark. God's voice would speak to me and say, you'll go to hell. You'll go to hell. I didn't want to go to hell, and as God had it, a preacher came by my house and invited me to church. I started going to church and got saved by the grace of God. Oh, I'm so thankful to know the truth of this book. I'm so thankful to know that this book is my truth and teaches me right and leads me to the way everlasting. I'm thankful that I know what I know from the book of God tonight. Here in these verses, these people who take the mark of the beast, develop a cancer all over their body. Boils break out on them. It becomes a cancer and it literally eats their body alive. Next slide for us, Brother Chris. The second angel pours out his vial upon the sea and it becomes as the blood of a dead man. The blood of a dead man turns black, thickens like a gel, and has a horrible stench. Every living creature in all the seas die. Can you imagine as all the dead bodies of the sea creatures begin to wash up on the shores, the shores of blood? and a horrible stench overtakes the entire world. The third angel pours out his vial upon all the rivers and fountains of waters, and they become blood, literal, not as blood, but they become blood. This is the source of water that furnishes all drinking, bathing, and cooking water. The angel of the waters proclaims the righteousness of God concerning this judgment. Their day in God's courtroom has come. They're found guilty of shedding the blood of God's people. The Antichrist and his worshipers are given blood to drink. Blood will be the only thing that they have to drink to quench their thirst. The cancerous boils on their flesh are driving them delirious with fever, and the only thing they have to drink is blood. The verdict of God is heard. They are worthy to drink of this punishment. John now hears a voice from heaven. out of the altar proclaiming the righteousness of God in His judgments. One may wonder, how could God be righteous to exact such judgment upon people? Only God Himself knows how many times He visited these very people and tried in mercy and grace to bring them to Himself, but they would not. God lets man have what they desire. When they refuse Him, the outcome is the judgment of God. When someone rejects God, it always delivers the retribution of God. I want you to listen to these verses out of Proverbs chapter 1, verses 24 through 31. This is God speaking. He said, Because I have called, and ye refused. I have stretched out my hand and no man regarded, but ye have said it not all my counsel, and would none of my reproof, I also will laugh at your calamity. I will mock when your fear cometh, when your fear cometh as desolation and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind, when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer. They shall seek me early, but they shall not find me. For they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord. They would none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit, listen to it, of their own way. and be filled with their own devices. The fourth angel pours out his vial upon the sun. Power is given to this angel to scorch men with fire. Even in this judgment, as people are being scorched with great heat, they will not repent, and they blaspheme the name of God The fifth angel pours out his vial and the seed of the beast in his kingdom is full of darkness. So much so it causes people to gnaw their tongues for pain. They still refuse to repent and continue to blaspheme the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores. Jesus made an amazing statement about men in his discourse with Nicodemus. In John 3, verse 19, I want you to listen to what Jesus said about this. He said, And this is the condemnation, that light is coming to the world. And men love darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil. Men have loved their darkness more than the light of God. So God, in His righteous judgment, gives them darkness for their reward. These judgments are reminiscent of the plagues upon Pharaoh and his kingdom during the days of the Exodus. Waters being turned into blood and darkness over all the land were part of the judgments that God brought upon the land of Egypt. But now, this judgment of the tribulation is upon the entire world. God always warns before he judges. He warned Pharaoh through Moses, and Pharaoh would not listen. Rather, he hardened his heart against the Lord, so the Lord brought more judgments with greater severity. Yet Pharaoh, would not repent. The Lord has warned this world that judgment is coming, yet many will not repent. We've been bombarded daily with updates and things about this COVID-19. We've been warned, men warned, don't go outside without a mask, take care of yourself. This thing is mysterious, it's an unseen enemy. And people have listened, some people have listened, but many have not. And yet God warns over and over and over that what is written in this book is gonna happen just like God said it is. Some have listened, but many have not. Listen to Isaiah 60 in verse number 2. He said, for behold, the darkness shall cover the earth and gross darkness the people. Jeremiah 13 verse 16, he says, give glory to the Lord your God before he calls darkness and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains. And while you look for light, he turned it into the shadow of death and make it gross darkness. The sixth angel releases his vial upon the great river Euphrates, and its waters are dried up that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. THESE EASTERN KINGS WILL INCLUDE CHINA, KOREA, VIETNAM, THAILAND, INDIA, PAKISTAN, AFGHANISTAN, THE PHILIPPINES AND POSSIBLY JAPAN. THE STATEMENTS CONCERNING THE ACTION OF THE ANGELS SHOWS THAT GOD HAS GIVEN CERTAIN ANGELS POWER OVER THE FORCES OF NATURE. Earlier in Revelation, angels were seen holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth nor the sea. Now, in this chapter, angels have turned the sea into blood. They are in control of the condition of the rivers. They are given power over the sun to control the light of the sun. And now, they dry up a river so that the armies of the east can tread through the pathway they have created. Our next slide, Brother Chris. Now John sees an amazing sight. Three unclean spirits, like frogs, come out of the mouth of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. These spirits are the devils that work their deceptive miracles during the reign of the Antichrist. They go to the kings of the earth and the whole world to gather them together to the battle of Armageddon. The prophet Zephaniah wrote about this gathering. In Zephaniah chapter 3, in verse number 8, we read these words, Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey, for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms. Why, Lord? To pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger, for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy." The word Armageddon means the mountain of slaughter. Armageddon is also known in scripture as Megiddo. Megiddo was known in the Bible for a place of battle and death. In 2 Kings 9, 27, we read these words, and he fled to Megiddo and died there. 2 Kings 23, 29, and King Josiah went against him and slew him in Megiddo. And then again in 2 Chronicles 35, 22, and came to a fight in the valley of Megiddo. This battle will be fought at the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not the last battle fought on this earth. There'll be one more after it. And it will be fought at the end of the tribulation period. All the worshipers of the Antichrist, groping in darkness and pain with the heat of the sun and the hideous boils of their flesh, will make their way to this one place on planet Earth. gathered through the deception of the miracle-working devils, not to fight with each other, but to fight against God, the one they've been blaspheming. They await their final attempt to try to outflank and outfight the King of kings and the Lord of lords. The seventh angel pours out his vial into the air, and a great voice from the temple of heaven declares, it is done. John Phillips, in his commentary on Revelation, wrote a very descriptive passage about this scene at Armageddon. He said, the time has come for the fighting of that final war of the age, the name of which has become a byword among men since John first wrote it down. Armageddon. The Holy Land has been chosen by God as the stage upon which two crucial events take place, one on a mountain and one on a plain. Mount Calvary and the Plain of Megiddo are the two altars of sacrifice that dominate the history of the world. On Mount Calvary, grace redeemed the world by the sacrifice of God's Son. And on the plains of Megiddo, vengeance offers up the armies of the world in a sacrifice of doom. Both are bloodbaths. Both are the descent of wrath upon sin. Both are brought about by God's bitterest foes who work out, despite themselves, God's perfect and sovereign will. From each proceeds a supper, one a feast of remembrance for the people of God, and the other a feast of retribution for the carrion. At Calvary there rang up to the gates of heaven a victorious cry, it is finished. And at Armageddon there rings down to earth an answering cry from the temple gates of glory, it is done. Finally, we want to look at the violent end of this section in verses 18 through 21. Our next slide, Brother Chris. Verses 18 through 21 read like this. And there were voices and thunders and lightnings. There was a great earthquake such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon came in remembrance before God to give unto her the cup, the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. and every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent. And men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, for the plague thereof was exceeding great. John now sees and hears thunders and lightnings and voices and a great earthquake that shakes the entire earth. In Isaiah chapter 24, verses 19 through 20, we're told about this great earthquake and the earth reeling to and fro. It said, the earth is utterly broken down. The earth is clean dissolved. The earth is moved exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard and shall be removed like a cottage. and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it, and it shall fall and not rise again." The great city Babylon is divided into three parts during the earthquake. This city's doom will be reviewed in chapter 17 and 18 in great detail. All the cities are destroyed. Every island is gone, and not one mountain can be found. The entire earth will reap the vengeance of the Lord in that day. Complete devastation and destruction will be the outcome. Then God begins to rain hell upon the ones gathered in the valley of Megiddo. with each stone weighing anywhere between 100 to 125 pounds each. This hailstorm is appropriate for these who blaspheme because blasphemers in the Old Testament were to be stoned to death. But this time, God Himself will be the one hurling these stones. In Leviticus 24, verse 16, the Word of God tells us this, be put to death, and all the congregation shall surely stone him, as well the stranger as he that is born in the land. When he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, he shall be put to death. Can you see what's happening at the end of this chapter? They've been blaspheming the God of heaven. They've been unrepentant. They will not, will not turn to God. They ball up their fist and they blaspheme God's name. And so God is fulfilling the law and casting hailstones weighing at least 100 pounds each down upon the entire world. The earthquake, the hail, and then the return of Jesus Christ ready for battle all make for a scene completely unimaginable, but it is going to happen just like the Word of God has revealed to us. Not one jot or tittle will be left unturned. As we close out this chapter, It's been my heart's desire that people hear this, especially people who may be lost, people who need the Lord in their lives. I'm thankful for those who are studying the Word of God, who are saved, but can I say this? If you're sitting there tonight and you're uncertain whether you're saved or not, do not take a chance on eternity without making it sure. Bible tells us to make our election sure, to make it right, to make sure that we know that we're saved. If you're here tonight listening to the sound of my voice and you've never made things right between you and God, you can do that tonight. If you'll humble yourself, repent of your sins and fall on your face, Say, God, I know I'm a sinner. Please save me. He'll save you, my friend. He'll save you and give you eternal life. If you're here tonight and you're certain that you're saved, you ought to just thank God that you are saved by His grace. I'm so thankful to know that I'm not going through this time called tribulation. I'm convinced from the Word of God. I don't have to argue with men about it. I don't have to read their commentaries. I've got the book of God that tells me that I'm not going through the tribulation period, and I rejoice in that. Listen, when I first got saved, all I knew was I was going to hell and I didn't want to go. And I got saved And I shouted for a good while just off the fact, knowing that I wasn't going to hell. But then one day I realized that not only was I not going to hell, I was going to heaven. And I started shouting about going to heaven. Then I found out by stunning the Word of God that I was not going to go through the tribulation period. And I'm still shouting today because God saved my soul. So many benefits, so much to gain by being saved, a child of God. If you don't know that for certain tonight, please don't go to bed tonight. Don't lay your head on a pillow before you get down on the floor before God and call upon His name. I love you tonight. And I thank you for tuning in. Thank you for all of you who have listened to this broadcast. Listen, all of us who are saved, we need to be telling others about this because we are living on the very brink. of the rapture of the church. The next great event to happen on this earth will be the rapture, the gathering together of God's people out of this world. Oh, what a day that's going to be when we, I've called it this before, we're going to fall up We've never done that before. All these bungee cords, they're trying to mimic it and trying to imitate it. Did you know one day the saints of God are going to be walking along and all of a sudden we're going to hear a voice from heaven saying, come up hither and we are going to be snatched out of this world and taken to God's glory world. What a blessing to know. What a blessing to know. I lay my head on my pillow at night, and I may have some bodily issues. I may have some pains in my body, but I never worry about dying and going to hell. I don't worry about the tribulation. I'm not looking for the tribulation. I'm looking for the Lord. to come back. Oh, dear friend, tonight, you can know that you know that you know that you're saved by the grace of God. The Bible says in 1 John 5, 13, these things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God. Hey, get it right tonight. Don't take a chance on eternity without Christ. I love you tonight. Thank you so much for tuning in on this rainy night in Georgia. All the rain's coming down on this aluminum top we've got. Sounds, it make you sleepy. I remember going up to Granny Fink's and working in tobacco fields during the summer. and hearing the rain hit that old metal roof made me sleep good at night. Oh, I'm gonna sleep good tonight, not because of rain on a metal roof, because I got Jesus in my heart. Can I get an amen right there? Oh, thank God for Jesus, saving my soul. Love you tonight, thank you for tuning in. Let's close in a quick word of prayer and we'll be dismissed. Our Father, thank you for your love and mercy. Thank you for your good salvation that you so freely give to whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord. And God, you bless these efforts in Jesus' name. And all of God's people said, Amen. God bless you tonight.
