Lord God, I thank you for the Bible class this morning. I thank you for the ability to learn about you and to draw closer to you, being taught under biblical teaching. Pray, Lord, that you would bless our singing time, help us to have a right mindset to dwell on you and your glory and your resurrection. In Jesus' name, amen. So, as we all know, Easter today or resurrection Sunday, whatever you want to call it and that's about Jesus's resurrection this day about 2,000 odd years ago Jesus was raised from the dead and it's it was the third day that he was the third day from when he was killed so when I was a kid I And I wasn't a Christian. I often used to think about the resurrection. I used to think about why is it so important that Jesus was raised from the dead? Why is it talked about so much that Jesus died and then was raised? And that's so important that Jesus was raised. Well, why is that so important? Well, it's important because of His victory. His victory over death. If you look in the second verse lives again our glorious king where oh death is now thy sting dying once he all does save where thy victory oh grave where's the victory in death there is no victory because jesus was raised from the dead we know that he was crucified but I looked this up. The estimates are that there was about 150,000 to 200,000 people over the course of the Roman Empire that were crucified. Well, what makes Jesus so special? Well, what makes him special is that he didn't stay dead as everyone else stayed dead. There's victory in Jesus, and we see in The fourth verse, the second line, it says, And so there's victory in death for Jesus, and because there's victory in Jesus, there's victory for us. So let's think about that as we sing this song. The Lord is risen today, Alleluia! Sons of men and angels sing, Alleluia! Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia! Sing ye the hymns that earth refine, Alleluia! Lift up, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia! Lift up, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia! Where, O death, is now thy slain? Alleluia! Thy equals be all thy slain. Alleluia! Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia! The redeeming work is done, Alleluia! On the final battle won, Alleluia! ♪ Left in vain for this their prize ♪ ♪ Alleluia ♪ ♪ Christ has opened paradise ♪ ♪ Alleluia ♪ ♪ For we now worship Him ♪ Christ has led, Alleluia. Following our angels we're led, Alleluia. Faith like him, like him we ride, Alleluia. Hearts across the kingdom's sky, Alleluia. So the song we just sang, I talked about how Jesus defeated death. He was raised from the dead, and so we know once and for all that He did defeat death. This song is less about death and more about sin. We know once and for all in Jesus' resurrection that He defeated sin for us. We can trust fully in Him that He truly did accomplish it. Look in the third verse. Lord, now indeed I find Thy power and Thine alone can change a leper's spots and melt the heart of stone. That's only through Jesus that a leper's spots can be changed and a heart of stone can be melted. It's through Jesus' death and resurrection, the defeat of sin. So for those of us who are believers and truly saved, let's think about that. That Jesus, He did pay it all, and He did wash us white as snow. But for those of us, hopefully none of us here, but for those of us who are not saved, that Jesus did not pay it all, I would ask that as you listen to this song or sing this song that you would pray, that you would cry out to the Lord and say, I know that I cannot defeat my sin. I know that there's nothing I can do to defeat my sin. Only you can. So that maybe one day you can sing this last verse with us where it says, Jesus died my soul to save. I give the Savior's name. this song. Child of weakness, watch and pray. Find in me thy Call to him, I will. Sing, hallelujah, hymns and sing. Be washed in white as snow. For now, indeed, I come. I know. He watched it by a stone, and when before the throne I said in hymn complete, Jesus died, my soul to save, my prayer shall still be near. Today, Resurrection Sunday is a pretty happy day. where we think about happy things and we're glorifying the Lord, praising the Lord that He did defeat death for us, He did defeat sin for us. But, I want to remind us of why Jesus had to be raised from the dead in the first place. He had to be raised from the dead because He died. And He had to die because of our sin. I want us to think about that as we sing this song. Look at the second verse. It says, and when I think that God, His Son, not sparing, sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in. I can hardly handle it when we think that God sent His own Son to die for our sins. Jesus wasn't on the cross for His sin because He didn't have any sin. He was on the cross for our sin. So I want us to be thankful to the Lord and glorify the Lord with this song that we can hardly handle it. On the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin. O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, throughout the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee, how great Thou art. How great Thou art! How great Thou art! And when I think that God His Son must carry I'm glad. my Savior God, to Thee. Thou great Thou art, Thou great Thou art. Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee. Thou great Thou art, When Christ shall come, with shout of adoration, and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart. Then I shall bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee How great Thou art! How great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee Oh God, how great thou art. Thank you for this Singing time, I thank you for this time that we get to come to you and glorify you and worship you. Pray, Lord, that as we listen to the sermon that our shepherd has for us, that you would open our hearts and our minds to hear what you have for us today. In Jesus' name, amen.
