History Of Once Saved Always Saved
INTRO: I want to share with you this morning the history tree of the OSAS teaching. This teaching is one of the first doctrines I met as a young Christian and from that time on I would have given my right arm to hear a message like the one I am giving today. You know that for years I have searched the history of this teaching. Recently, as I was studying Calvinism, I came across a documentary on the OSAS teaching. After watching that I had the evidence I needed to confirm the conclusion I had already arrived at but did not have enough evidence to confirm it. Then I learned about David Bercot, a Mennonite historian, and he greatly helped by, filling in a few other areas.
Let me take a moment to point out something from the book of Revelation. I take the view that Revelation 2-3 gives us a prophetic view of the Church age in seven stages. The seven churches show us prophetically the stages the Church will go through until the Lord returns. I view the book of Revelation as one of the most chronological books in the Bible. Chapter 1 is an introduction. Chapters 2-3 give us the Church Age. Chapters 4-5 introduce us to a scene in heaven and give us a prelude to what will happen after the tribulation of mankind begins. Chapters 6-19 describe the tribulation. Chapter 20 gives us the millennium which follows the tribulation and chapters 21-22 give us the eternal state.
