Well good to see everyone tonight.
We'll just speak the Lord together in prayer and then say we'll
turn in God's Word again to 1 Corinthians chapter 11. Our heavenly Father
and eternal God we come before thee this night in the Saviour's
name. Father we thank you God even for thy help in times gone
by when we've come to the Word of God. Lord that has been our
teacher thy spirit has come and applied the Word even to our
very heart. And Lord we pray again as we come now to the end
of our study, on head covering we pray Lord that thou again
would speak to us through thy word, that thou would guide us,
that thou would help us. And Lord we pray that as we seek
to glean in the word of God, may we be built up in our most
holy faith. Lord we ask of thee that thou
would give us help this night, in Jesus name. Amen. We'll turn
then in God's word to 1 Corinthians chapter 11. 1 Corinthians chapter
11. What I'm going to do tonight,
I'm just going to read verses 14 down to verse 16 because that's
where we're going to be tonight and obviously we'll make reference
to other verses as well but just for tonight we'll read 1 Corinthians
chapter 11 verses 14 down to verse 16. Doth not even nature
itself teach you that if a man have long hair it is a shame
unto him. But if a woman have long hair,
it is a glory to her, for her hair is given her for a covering. But if any man seem to be contentious,
we have no such custom, neither the churches of God. Amen. We know the Lord. We'll
bless the reading of his word. In our study of head covering,
We have made known that as a denomination, the Free Presbyterian Church,
we practice head covering, as outlined by the Apostle Paul
in Scripture, as given by the Lord himself. We've made that
known at the very start. I made that point, it may seem
a strange point to make, I just make that point because it proves
that The practice for the church regarding head covering did not
start with the Free Presbyterian Church. This is not, as some
people say, a Free Presbyterian thing. It's not obviously also,
as some Baptists have put it to me, a legalistic Presbyterian
tradition or just a culture for a particular country. When we
refer to head covering, we refer to an extra material covering
that is placed on the head of a woman to cover her natural
hair. Women are to wear a head covering
and men are not to wear a head covering in public worship as
seen by verses 4 through to 7. Now we've gone into detail about
the many different Greek words. I have it before you there in
the notes. I'm not going to go through all
those words again as you have it before you, other than simply
to say that the word in verse 4, covered, simply refers to
something physical on the head. The original reading of verse
4 is, every man praying or prophesying, having anything on his head,
put to shame his head. And the same in verse 5 in reference
to the woman only the other way, if she doesn't have anything
on her head, then she dishonours her head. So a woman is to have
that extra covering on her head. And so you see the notes there,
you have all those different words that we have gone into
in greater detail, but we'll not just do that tonight. We've
also thought about what type of covering to use. It can be
a hat, it can be a coat hood, it can be a towel, it can be
a scarf wrapped around as it is a head covering. Therefore,
It covers the hair on the head. That means a sweatband or hairbands
are not head covering because they only go across this part
of the head. And so when we're talking about
head covering, we're talking about something that covers the
head, the top of the head where no hair is to be seen on the
top. So I make that point. The wee
bands that go across this right around, like a sweat band, a
hair band, that is not biblical covering. Something, as we said
before, where people may have a wee thing just at the side
like this, and all this is exposed, is not biblical head covering. Biblical head covering is where
the top of the head, all the hair is covered, that extra covering
on the head. And so hopefully we've answered
that as well. We've answered also many other
objections and given reasons why head covering was taught
and practiced faithfully from the early church until the last
150 years, where it has now been abandoned because it's been viewed
as outdated, degrading, legalistic, cultural. People would even say
that times have changed. Keep in mind, head covering.
is not a matter of salvation. Salvation does not rest in head
covering. A lady can wear a head covering
and still be lost. Also, a lady can refuse head
covering and still be saved. It's the same with baptism and
the Lord's Table. These do not save, but they are
signs, they are object lessons to teach the gospel. But you
do them, once you're saved, you're baptised in obedience to the
Lord's command or you sit at the table of the Lord as he commands
in obedience to him. So in a sense, head covering,
a lady wears that extra covering on her head in obedience to the
Lord, to honour him. Whereas men do not wear that
covering. Head covering teaches the gospel.
Christ submitting himself to honour God. It teaches God's
order of creation. Head covering is not a matter
of separation. I know there's a different line.
People draw a different line on where to separate from a church.
I would not separate from another believer when it comes to head
covering as fellowship. I would not disown them, all
the rest. However, it is an area of sanctification. submission, honouring the Lord.
And so my point would be in this, a believer would want to obey
the Lord's word. And so that's where we draw the
line on that. You should want to obey God's
word. As a denomination, I keep repeating
that, the Free Presbyterian Church, we practice head covering as
taught in scripture. Now, while it is our desire that
every woman, female, would wear head covering as outlined in
scripture, it is certainly, we believe, anybody who is a Communicate
member especially, they do have their heads covered. Otherwise,
they are an unfaithful member of the church. You know that
booklet that you have there when it comes to church membership,
you sign it, it has all these things stated there about biblical
head covering. And so, really, these things
are there, but it is our desire that My point, one of the points
of preaching this is that when you go into a church, maybe you're
visiting a church visiting family or you're on holiday like we've
done when we were in visiting our loved ones in Dominican Republic,
you go maybe to a Baptist church because that's all really was
out there. You go in and you realize they don't hold head
covering. They teach it's cultural. They teach it's something not
to be practiced in a sense. but my wife would still have
her head covered. She may be the only one, because
we believe it to be biblical. So my point for you, I pray that
would be the case, that when you've gone through the study
and hope you come to see it that way, that when you go in to another
church, whatever church that may be, family or any church
on holiday, you'll still have the head covering. And if you
walk in there and realize they don't have it, that you'll not
slip yours off. to be embarrassed, but rather,
like Daniel, you will dare to be a Daniel, dare to stand alone. As the song said, though no one
join me, still I will follow. The teaching of head covering
must be upheld. And so, as I say, as a denomination,
we believe it's taught in Scripture, as given by the Lord, and if
it's taught we believe it's taught by the Lord in Scripture, then
it can't be outdated. It can't just be cultural, because
God's Word never changes. Paul has given principles for
the church to practice head covering. We have considered the first
three, the principle of submission in verse 3, the principle of
worship to God, verses 4 to 6, The Principle of Creation verses
8 to 9. Now we come to the last two points. The Principles of Head
Covering. One of them is certainly, is
where you'll find the biggest debate on and the other one seems
just to be curiosity to a lot of people. The fourth point is
this, Paul's teaching on head covering is based on the principle
of angels. Verse 10, for this cause ought
the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. These words are very wonderful,
yet they're striking. Paul states for this cause, based
on what has just been said regarding submission, public worship and
creation, ought the woman to have power on her head because
of the angels. Now the word power or par, in
this verse means authority because of the angels a woman is to have
power, authority on her head this means the sign, the symbol
of a woman's authority or power on her head is a physical covering,
that extra material covering on her head This is a covering
that is descriptive of something placed on her head, a sign to
show her submission to the Lord. This means in verse 10, the woman
is to have a covering on her head that is extra than her natural
hair, signifying that she recognises the role that the Lord has given
her in the congregation. Why? because of the angels. Now I understand there's many
different views on what this word means or this phrase because
of the angels. There's a lot more no doubt we
could say about it and maybe there's different angles we could
take from it. I will try my attempt tonight
but it must be important what Paul has said here of course
it is because it's in scripture but when Paul makes the effort
to say that a woman ought to have power on her head this extra
covering because of the angels, then we have to take note, because
of the angels. The Bible states about angels
in Psalm 91 verse 11, for he shall give his angels charge
over thee to keep thee in all thy ways. And so you have their
ministering angels. Again Hebrews 1, verse 4, are
they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for them
who shall be heirs of salvation? But the key verse is this, 1
Peter 1, verse 10, unto whom it was revealed that not unto
themselves but unto us they did minister the things which are
now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel
unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven. Here it
is. Which things the angels desire
to look into. So there you have the gospel
being preached. The gospel being preached is
what the angels desire to look into. The things of redemption. Why do the angels desire to look
into the things concerning the preaching of the gospel, the
things concerning redemption? Well, remember, whenever the
angels sinned, they fell with Satan. They didn't get a second
chance. There was no redemption for them. Jude verse 6 says, The angels
which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation,
he hath reserved an everlasting chains under darkness, under
the judgment of the great day. So those angels who sinned with
Satan, they were expelled from heaven, their doom is set. But when man sinned, when man
fell into sin, There was the Good News given to him, the Gospel
given to him. God entered into that covenant
union with Christ to save man. God planned the redemption of
sinners, human beings, to reconcile sinners to himself, to restore
sinners to himself. And that's why Christ submitted
himself, he humbled himself. The Word became flesh and dwelt
among us. In fact, Hebrews chapter 2 verse
16 states that Christ's humanity, or then that chapter, was lower
than the angels. He took not on him, notice, the
nature of angels. but he took on him the seed of
Abraham." Isn't that amazing? The Lord Jesus Christ, when he
came into this world, he didn't take the nature of an angel,
but he took on him the seed, the nature of mankind, the seed
of Abraham. He took the same nature, meaning
He took flesh, a true humanity of those He came to save. He
didn't come to save the angel. He came to save sinners from
their sin. His name is Jesus. He shall save
His people from their sin. Of course, His humanity is a
humanity without sin, a sinless humanity. Why? Because He is
God and in Him is no darkness. So Christ identified himself
with sinners he came to save. And for those reasons, regarding
redemption, the preaching of the gospel, the angels desired
to look into, they want to know more, God's love for mankind,
the wretched people, the sinners, the fallen. The Lord in Luke's
gospel used the parable of things that were lost to teach the condition
of sinful man and the rejoicing there is in heaven over lost
sinners who are found and returned to the Lord. This was illustrated,
as you know, by the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son.
All were lost, all were found to teach that sinners who are
lost in sin, far from God, concerning the estate in which they were
created All three were to teach that man is naturally lost or
ruined on account of sin. Man comes into this world with
a nature that is corrupt, polluted by sin, desiring his own way,
choosing only that which is disobedience to God. He's a rebel by nature,
a transgressor of the law of God. Man is spiritually lost,
he's cut off from God, alienated from God's favour and from acceptance
with God. He is morally lost and that the
inclination of his heart is given over to wickedness. But the ultimate
feature of the lost condition of man is that he will be eternally
lost if he dies in his sin, remains in his sin. And yet, and yet,
Christ took the very nature of those who rebelled against him.
Didn't take the nature of angels but of mankind he came to seek
and to save them that were lost he came to call sinners to repentance
and as a result of doing that and as a result of saving sinners
we learn in that chapter in Luke in verse 10 we read uh it says
there in verse 10 of Luke chapter 15 I say unto you there is joy
in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. Isn't that amazing? they desire
to look into the things of redemption. How fallen sinners, the worst
of sinners, the wickedest of sinners, the most rebellious
of sinners, Christ took their humanity to save them, to identify
with them and whenever he saves them, even the angels of heaven
rejoice in that very fact. Do you rejoice as the angels
when a sinner gets saved? I have to say, sad today, that
when believers hear of people being saved, instead of rejoicing,
it's more examination. But the angels rejoice. The angels
have joy over that one sinner being saved. They look in to
the things of redemption. Angels rejoice over the saving
of souls. Also in Isaiah 6, verse 2 and
3, records that in the very presence of God, angels worship God, having
their faces covered and their feet covered, surrounding the
throne of God, proclaiming, holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. So even in the very presence
of God, the angels have an extra covering, so that the Lord will
receive all glory. Therefore, a woman ought to have
her head covered with that extra covering in public worship because
of the angels, because the angels cover themselves in worship to
God. They look into the things of
redemption. They see how we worship God.
They worship God in heaven, having that that feel that covering
over their faces and yet they look into redemption as we worship
God to see how we worship Him. Angels are present when we worship
God. 1 Timothy chapter 5 verse 21,
I charge thee before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the
elect angels that thou observe these things without referring
one before another, doing nothing by partiality. Ephesians chapter
3 verse 10, to the intent that now unto the principalities and
powers in heavenly places might be known by the church. The manifold wisdom of God. If
you could see in the heavenly places right now, you would see
angels watching our worship. rejoicing when sinners are saved,
seeing how we worship the Lord. Again, that quote, Charles Spurgeon,
known as the Prince of Preachers. 1834 to 1892, who ministered in London,
met Tabernacle to over 6,000 people weekly. Some even said
between 6,000 to 8,000. Some people even said times he
had to tell people to stay at home to allow others to get in
to hear the preaching. He said this, The reason why
our sisters appear in the house of God with their heads covered
is because of the angels. Now we're not making that quote
to say well because Charles Spurgeon said it's right then it's right.
Of course it is because he did say but the point is we're basically
saying that he believed in scripture this principle was taught and
that's why he said it. when the ladies in Met Tabernacle
in his day had their heads covered. Sadly, over 130 years later from
Spurgeon's time, I understand they have done away with that
teaching today. Keep in mind, the angels, they
seen Satan's rebellion and his fall. Therefore, as they are
present when we worship God, They witness women covering their
heads and men not covering their heads. They see that submission
to God as they do. But also, if the angels are present
and they look into our worship and they see women without their
heads covered and men maybe with heads covered or whatever it
may be, they see rebellion. They see the opposite. Therefore,
in public worship, the man's head remains uncovered and the
lady's head is covered, both to show submission to God's authority,
but the ladies wear that head covering because of the angels. They are present when we worship
God. They're in the midst. They look
how we worship God. They look into the things of
redemption because in heaven itself they are around the throne
of God with their faces filled. Covering wholly, wholly, wholly
is the Lord of hosts. There's a reason Paul said why
this teaching of head covering is vital. Notice finally, Paul's
teaching on head covering is based on the principle of nature. Now, I want you to keep that
before you. because verses 13 to 15 is a
real issue in this whole, not an issue to me but obviously
for people, it is an issue for them. Paul proceeds in verses
13 to 15 to show nature teaches a vital truth that there is a
distinction between male and female in everyday life, outside
public worship. The word nature refers to the
matter of natural characteristics by which a male and a female
have been distinguished. The difference in natural characteristics
is evidence in physical appearance but Paul singles out hair. Doth not even nature itself teach
you that if a man have long hair it is a shame on to him? But if a woman have long hair,
it is a glory to her, for her hair is given for her covering. Can I just say, it's not in the
notes, so I'm digressing here, which is good and bad sometimes,
but can I just say, I've known men to have long hair, believers. And I can tell you this here,
whenever they've come to a verse of scripture like this, and they
go to a church that believes what this chapter teaches, that
it is a shame for him to have long hair. Do you know what they
do? I tell you what they do. They look for a church that don't
really bother about these things. And that's where they go. And
I know that because I know people who have done that. That's what
they do. They go to a church where the church may not take
a big stand on it, but the church are not willing to make an issue
out of it. And so they just bring them in.
And the whole point is the man wants to be there to keep his
long hair. That's the whole point. And that's really the same with
head covering. If a lady goes to a church where the head covering
is not taught, then she'll just stay there as opposed to going
somewhere where it is taught, but the point is, it's a shame
to him. But if a woman have long hair,
it is a glory to her, for her hair is given for her a covering. Now, the description of long
hair used in both verses, especially referring that it is natural
for a woman to have long hair and not the man. However, when
it comes to verse 15 we read, if a woman have long hair it
is a glory to her. for her hair is given for her
a covering. Now, some will say preacher.
There you go. That's the end of the argument. There it's there. A woman's hair
is her covering. And that's the reason she does
not need to wear an extra one in church. And that's why it's
legalistic for you Presbyterians to teach this. But my answer
to this is to get to that point, then you would have to say everything
from verses 3 onwards. Paul has then contradicted himself.
Paul is basically saying, you know what, everything I've said
up to now doesn't really matter because actually I've just realised
now a woman's hair is recovering. Paul doesn't do that and neither
should we. And so to answer this objection,
this thought, Let me give it this way. There's nothing wrong
with the words. I said this before. People come
to this verse and they panic. And you have these people who
teach that's cultural and all these things that we've said.
And then someone panics because here's what the verse says. They
see the words. And so someone goes, see, that's
what the word says. Look, look, you read it right plain. You can't
read that any other way. There, it's wrong. You're legalistic.
And people begin to panic because they look at the verse and said,
oh, well, that's what it says. Oh, they've got me now. But again, as I said, we have
to look into the scripture. You have to take every word that
Paul's teaching. What was the key verse in verse
14? What is the key point that Paul
is making in these verses? It's about nature. So, it's true. A woman's natural
hair is her natural covering for everyday use. Her natural
hair is also called her glory. I'm not here to change scripture.
That's what scripture says. But remember, Paul is speaking
in the context of nature. Verses 14 and 15 are supporting
his points from verses 4 to 7, not contradicting them, not changing
them. What is natural to a female in
verses 4-7 or in verses 14-15 is because of creation in verses
4-7. A female or a male are so by
nature because they are created that way by God. And that's all
that Paul is proving. To go against nature is to go
against creation. God created a male a male. He created a female a female. There is no confusion. One evidence of that distinction
is a woman naturally has long hair or a different natural style
of hair when compared to man. Now, here's how up-to-date the
Bible is. For all those who say the Bible's
out-of-date and a load of nonsense, hear how truthful God's Word
is even today. By natural creation, the woman
has a natural covering which is her glory. It distinguishes
her from the man. Her natural hair is given for
her glory. However, since the fall male
and female seek to reverse the order in this area of nature
and creation. But let me ask you this, in what
way or in one, or let me put it like this, in one of the first
ways they attack nature and creation is by hair. That's why Paul is
bringing this point. Remember, the Bible is given
by inspiration of God. And so, here we have, even on
Paul's day, he brings this point about nature and the hairstyles. Because today, where we live
today, This is what is attacked. This is the first thing that
begins to change. It's the hair style. Men begin
to grow long hair or adopt a feminine style and women shave their heads
short to look like a man. Because you have men claiming
they're actually females and you've now females claiming they're
actually males. They're changing genders. They
believe God's got it wrong. They believe there's confusion.
And one of the first things they do is they change their hairstyle. The lady begins to cut her hair
short like a man and the man begins to grow his hair like
a woman. He maybe perms his hair or he
starts to do all these feminine moves like this, flicking the
hair like that there. All these things. I see some
even have pigtails and ponytails. There's so many things that you
could say because hair is the first thing that's attacked.
So it's amazing how we're reading this tonight, isn't it? Even
about hair. In fact, let me just say this
here. What makes it more exceedingly sinful is that today you have
parents that when their child is born, they keep their child's
gender neutral. that the child today in many
countries is not referred to anymore as a boy or a girl. And so the child, and they do
that so the child can choose when it's older what it wants
to be, what it wants to identify as, a male or a female. You even in fact have people
now will name their children even unisex names as well as
what is termed, you know, it can be name refer to a boy or
refer to a girl and then they can decide what they want to
do and so on. But this is unnatural
and it is unbiblical. It's basically saying I'm creating
creation. God got it wrong. And that's
vital to grasp because Paul in raising this matter of natural
distinction between male and female is for that particular
purpose. It is to provide a supporting
argument for the scriptural teaching of head covering. Paul shows
just as in the creation and the natural realm there's a distinction
between male and female So there is to be a distinction between
male and female in the spiritual realm in public worship on the
basis of creation and nature. The distinction is hair, long
hair. So in public worship the distinction
is women cover their natural hair and men uncover their head. However, today in society, even
in public worship, the natural distinction is blurred. Today, it's a challenge to tell
the two apart, even children today, when they go to school. It's hard even to tell, is that
a boy or is that a girl? Because how, even their dress,
but the hair style. And so, head covering is that
sign to show the distinction between male and female, the
roles given by God. The women wear a head covering,
the men do not. That's extra covering. Now, in
verse 15, Paul says about this word covering, It is a different
Greek word as we learnt last week, peri-boleion, meaning a
fail, as the Bible margin shows. Also it means to put around.
The same word is also translated in Hebrews 1, verse 12 as the
word fester. So it refers to something long
enough that could be wrapped around to cover fully. And so
Paul is using this word covering in verse 15 teaching that by
nature the distinction of a woman's hair by creation is like a long
fester. It's her glory every day. The point is this, it's different
from man's natural hairline and style. Such a natural mark of
glory ought to cause the woman to rejoice in her natural covering,
her natural glory that God has given not to dethrone it, not
to throw it away, to do away with it and for that reason some
will then take the phrase in verse 15 for her hair is given
her for a covering to mean her hair is a substitute instead
of an extra covering Let me say that again. Some will take that
phrase 1st 15 for her hair. They'll not worry about anything
else by the way. They'll not worry about anything else that's said
in the chapter. They'll just go straight to this. For her hair
is given her for a covering. And so they say her hair is the
substitute instead of that extra covering. Her hair is Her natural
hair is the covering, she doesn't need that extra covering. Well,
let me try and answer this by using scripture as we read it,
also to give you the proper meaning and context as we've been doing,
and to show you you don't need to be afraid of this verse. Paul
is dealing, as we said, with public worship, not private coverings
for everyday or outside public worship. The word for in the
phrase for a covering in the original Greek can be translated
instead of or in place of. It is the preposition anti, which
you will know that word, you ever heard of the name Antichrist. It means in the stead of or in
the place of. That's why we believe the Pope
to be an antichrist because he puts himself, he places himself
in the place of Christ. He takes the place of Christ
or he takes the place of the Holy Spirit. He believes he's
the figure of Christ, but the Holy Spirit is the figure of
Christ. So the Pope is blasphemous in
his claims. But so there's the word anti.
It means instead of or in place of. Therefore, the second part
of verse 15 can be read, her hair is given for her in the
place of a covering. What is Paul saying? Well, remember
verse 14. That's where you start from.
Doth not nature. So he's talking about nature.
itself teach you. Then you go to that verse. If
a woman have long hair it is a glory to her for her hair is
given her in place of a covering. Paul is teaching that God by
nature has given the woman a natural feel for every day. It's her hair. It's a glory to
her. For that reason, her natural
feel, her natural hair, was given to her instead of a feel, a festure
or a covering used in public worship. As the woman goes about
her life outside of public worship, she is not bound to wear an extra
covering all day long. as some religions say women must
do. Rather her natural hair as she
walks around identifies her apart from a male. But Paul is not
saying that her hair is a substitute for the head covering which is
to be worn in public worship. Therefore, since a woman's hair
is her glory by nature, then when a woman enters public worship,
the angels are present, and she's praying, she's prophesying, which
means to praise the Lord, her natural glory is then to be covered
by having authority on her head, which is this extra covering. And man is not to wear an extra
covering on his head when praying, prophesying, praising God to
acknowledge God is to receive all glory and she along with
he are under his authority. So that's how I would answer
that question, my, if you like, weak attempt. So that leads then
to the question that is often asked, does a woman need to wear
a covering on her head in family devotions? Or if she's reading
her Bible on her own, seeking God in her own? Or likewise,
what about a man? Does he have to take a hat off
in his own house when he's having devotions? I've been asked these
questions before. Well, My answer is this, that
is up to the family. I myself would never wear a hat
for our family devotions or when praying in our own house and
I think Most men would not wear a hat anyway when they're doing
their devotions anyway or reading their own Bible anyway. So really,
it's more dealing with the woman, really, in that question. You
know, does a lady, should a lady, does a lady need to wear a hat
in her own house? Again, that is entirely up to
her and her husband. Because remember, Paul is dealing
with public worship. when God's people gather together. So for instance, our Sunday meetings
that we have tonight and Monday night, ladies, we've asked to
wear a head covering. Why? Because these meetings are
public worship services. It's the assembling of the congregation
together. We would be, in a sense, we're
having this meeting as if we would be having it in the church
itself, in the church buildings, as we can't meet in the church
building because everybody can't get there in time, in that sense,
because of distance and work. And so this is our public meeting. This is our congregating together
as the church. Therefore, on the Monday night,
the Wednesday night, there ought to be that head covering practice. Whereas at home, in your own
private devotions, your own private time with the Lord, it's entirely
up to you. I know ladies who will wear a
head covering when they have their own private devotion or
family devotion. I know ladies who will do that.
And I know ladies who don't do that. But again, as I said, Paul
is dealing with public worship. What you do in your home is entirely
between you and the Lord. However, let me give this suggestion. When you watch a service online,
head covering should be worn by the ladies and not men. You say, but why is that? I'm
at my home, I'm watching a service online. Well, the reason why,
if you're watching a church service online, you should still wear
the head covering, because you make up part of that congregation
online. You're doing what you would normally
do if you were there. Put it like this, if you were
to watch a church service online and didn't have your head covering,
If I were to ask you, if you were to actually visit that church
on a Sunday, would you wear the head covering? And if you say
yes, well then you should be doing the same at home if you're
watching that service online. Why? Because you're entering
in to that congregation, you're putting yourself a part of that
congregation as if you were there and you're being fed, you're
entering in to that word. So I hope that study has helped.
Hope it's been a blessing to you. We have covered a lot of
ground. Hopefully I've shown you that
head covering is not a legalistic Free Presbyterian tradition or
bondage. Rather, it is the Free Presbyterian
Church obeying the word of God as given by the Lord himself. And I trust that that's been
a help to you, an encouragement to you. And I pray that as you
have the notes, and as we put the messages up for you to listen
to again, that you will grow in the Lord. And when these things
come before you, you will be able to answer why you wear head
covering. I'll be honest, church that I
grew up in, or I mean to say, Free Presbyterian Church in a
general sense, I didn't really hear messages on head covering. The reason why, because it was
just something everybody knew to do. When you walked into a
church, the truth is you just did what everybody did. You walked
in the church, if the men had a suit and they had a shirt and
tie, you wore a shirt and tie. If the ladies had the dress on,
then ladies coming in who might have worn jeans or different
things, they knew that they would then wear a dress. It's the same
head covering. The ladies then wore a head covering. These were just things that you
fell into, but you didn't know why you actually did it. If someone
had come to me years ago and said about head covering, the
simple answer would have been, well, because my church says
so. Or, well, because that's what they do, we do. And so it's
good to go through these things. It's good to have a reason. Why do you wear a head covering?
Well, here's why. we've outlined those marks. So
I trust it's been a blessing to you and a help to you and
I pray that God will bless us even as we go forward and as
we go into other lessons as well regarding other subjects. But
we'll just pray now and then I'll just say a few things at
the end. Father we thank thee for help given in these last
number of weeks for ground covered. We believe even in our study
we've sought to exalt thee, we've sought to exalt thy son with
salt to exalt, even his very role in creation, and even the
creation, O God, that thou didst make male and female. We pray,
O God, and thank thee thou send in thy word that they that honour
thee, thou will honour. Bless us, now we pray, in Jesus'
name. Amen.
