Thank you. Never done this before. Alright, here we go. Many years ago, when I was in my late teens, my main interests in life were ballroom dancing and my pony. I gave little thought about God, Jesus, or eternal life until I met a young woman named Rosemary Weston. Now, Rosemary came to help my mother run her kindergarten school, and we quickly became friends. One day, Rosemary said that her Baptist church was hiring a coach to take them take a party to London to hear an American evangelist called Billy Graham, who was paying his first visit to this country. The thought of a free visit to London was quite appealing to this teenager. So off we set. I was amazed at the thousands of people gathered to hear Billy preach. His message was clear and heartwarming as he spoke about how Jesus loved us and died for us. At the end of which he called for people to come forward and dedicate their lives to Christ. Hundreds of people responded. I too felt the great warmth and desire to be saved. Both I and my mother went forward to give our lives to Jesus Christ. On returning home, there was no response from the Baptist Church or follow-up from any kind to take me beyond my decision to follow Jesus. Not even the suggestion that I should be baptized. I became involved with an organization within the church called Girls' Life Brigade. But I still didn't grow in my understanding of the Bible or God's will for me. About this time, Brian came into my life. And for the first time, I met someone who was more important than my pony. We fell in love. and became engaged, after which Brian was called up for national service in the Royal Air Force. During this time, Brian, too, gave his life to Christ at an evening service at his RAF station. But again, there was no follow-up or discipleship course available to him. how important it is for there to be someone who can come alongside to help a young convert to grow in the faith of Christ. This would continue to be the situation for the next eight years. On moving to a new area in Portsmouth, where we were living, we began to occasionally attend a local Baptist church where at least we met a couple who were to become our friends and spiritual mentors. They grounded us in the foundations of the faith and guided us as we began to grow. Brian became involved as an assistant leader in the boys' covenanters. and it was suggested that he should be baptized. However, I was not approached about being baptized as I was less involved, having to spend much of my time raising our two young children. Since moving to Bath and over the past 50 years, we have witnessed many other people being baptized, but the fact that I had not been was completely forgotten. But Brian and I have recently had the opportunity of discipling two Roman Catholic friends who gave their lives to the Lord through an Alpha course at their church. on sharing with them the necessity of being baptized, my own neglect suddenly came to light after all these years. So it was with joy in my heart today that I bear witness to my love and appreciation to the Lord Jesus Christ for his great salvation and that he has demonstrated that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him. against that day. The day he returns or calls me home. And this is where God planned I should be baptized. Thank you.
