Jonah, Jonah, Jehonah, that is, the rebellious prophet. Now we're going to see God dealing with him. And sometimes maybe you can see God dealing with your own lives this same way and with people that you have known. The great storm. Now, I want you to realize that the people in Bible days were very superstitious. And when Jesus was out on the Sea of Galilee, and the great storm started, they always believed that there was a Leviathan down in the bottom of the Lake Sea of Galilee. It was a lake, and actually not a sea, but it did have salt water in it, some. And this great leviathan at the bottom of the sea guarding the gates of hell, of prophet Cheol, that he would stir up the waters and cause a great storm. And when Jesus sealed the storm on there, they thought that he had power over the leviathan of the deep. And so now, as we study here, And see this going on, I want you to understand that the people always thought the storm came from something supernatural. That something supernatural, if the storm hit them, that somebody was doing something wrong or whatever. And of course, in this case, somebody was doing something wrong. The great leviathans, Jeremiah 6, 10 to 21 and 25. Acts 27-13, Romans 1, 18-32, these are all cross-references to this, where we are here. Psalm 107, 23-28, 135, 6-7. And then we have the Ruach. Now, sometimes the word Ruach means spirit and it talks about Spirit God. Okay, now, is Spirit God involved here? And He cast the Holy Spirit. or wind. Now in Genesis 1 and 2 in the Jewish Publications Society Bible it said a wind from God passed over the waters and the chaos of the deep. Well here is possibly Spirit God, Spirit God great or a wind great. The law, when the great, unto, little preposition there, page 39, unto the ha-yom, the ha-yom. It literally means the waters, the sea, the Mediterranean Sea. Ha-yom, the sea. Now we know where it is, it's out there in the Mediterranean Sea. Where is he? Let's look at this again. He's in the Mediterranean Sea. Let me get this a little closer to the camera up here. He took off here in this area right there. And he's going out here and he's going to go all the way over here to Spain or Tarsus. Somewhere between here and here is a great storm. So there's where we are. And we have this great storm. The wind great. a storm or wind great, Ruah, Gadolah, El, Hayom, the waters, or the sea, and became, and he became, the wind, he became, third person masculine singular, Cal, well-consecrated, even perfect, the wind kept on becoming a storm, a sa'ar, a sa'ar is a storm, and then that is Gadolah, and then Bayom, in the sea or in the waters, or even in the day, and the ship, we, ha, na, yi, ni, ya, and the ship, now the ship is a she, remember, and the ship, we, that's a conjunction, the and then the ship she had had thought to be broken up third person feminine singular pl perfect had had thought to be broken up all of the evidence around them, the sea was so great, the wind was so great, the waters were so great, that they thought the ship was going to fall apart, just be busted up. And that happened. Maryland, we were out in the ocean quite a few times, weren't we? We went out in the ocean a lot. I remember going out there in the ocean one time, and the sea was really bad. The winds were blowing, the boat was just bouncing all over the place, and just like this, I couldn't stand up. I had to crawl on the deck back there. I couldn't stand up. And I got back there, and mirrors and tears were just going down her eyes, and I said, sweetheart, I said, sweetheart, do you want to go back in? She said, let's fish. I'll never forget that. Let's fish. She was determined to fish. Even though she was scared and tears were coming down her eyes, she said, let's fish. These people here didn't say, let's fish. They said, whoa, whoa, whoa. The boat's going to be broken up. I'm going to tell you what, it's not easy to steer a boat in that kind of weather. It isn't either. Up and down, 20 foot swell. I've been in 100 foot swells. That's not good. The storm, great. In the sea, ba-yum. that day in the sea, and the ship, she, or they thought that she was about to be destroyed, to be broken. Lihish Shaber. Unusual happenings here now. Now, the captain and the crew, why yiru? We know that's the captain and the crew. The captain and the crew, they kept on being afraid. Third person, masculine plural, cow, wild, consecutive, even perfect. It comes from we-yah. They kept on fearing, they kept on being afraid. And then we have the word ha-ma-la-keem, the mariners. The mariners are the sailors. The mariners are the sailors, ma-la-keem. 572, if you want to look that one up in Brown, Driver, and Briggs. And then, and they kept on crying out, why is a goo? Why is a coo? They kept on crying out, third person, masculine, plural, cow, wild, consecutive, and perfect. And then the ish there is the word for man. And the word for man here, it means each man, singularly. Unto, el, His gods. Eloha. His gods. 43 and 44, Driver Brakes. That word, His gods, there now, you put those gods in lowercase. That's not Jehovah. Not one of these people knew Jehovah. Not one of them. They didn't. They may have never even heard His name or knew who He was. Elohim. They used the word Elohia. but it, and that means God, but it means they're gods, little gods. And then, Wa-Yat-Tillu, and they kept on, or had, they kept on hurling and throwing. That third person, Ma-Yat-Tillu, He fell while consecutive and perfect. That comes from To-Yol. They kept on throwing, and then we have the sign of the direct object here, Et, same as Ace and Greed. And then, Ha-Kalim, Ha, definite article, and then in Kalim there, it means everything that they had, all the cargo. They kept on throwing the utensils and all the cargo, and maybe even some of their tools, which, the particle of relation there, asher, ba'aniyah, in the ship, in the vessel. Ba, that breath, that's a preposition there, that preposition. Page 88, in the ship, in the vessel. Unto, L, preposition, page 39, unto the sea, the hayom. They were throwing everything overboard. Everything of value was going overboard. They're making a living hauling things, but now, somebody's got to pay for this, but it's more important that their lives are at stake now, and so they start lightening the boat. li-hagel, to lighten, that little preposition there, hiphel, infinitive construct, from koel, to lighten, from her, preposition, meh, preposition, all, preposition, upon them. We've got a bank robber here, we've got somebody that kills people, we've got a murderer, we've got an assassin. Who is this guy? Who is the evil one? The this. Ha-zo. Definitely an article. Who is a naked, crafty, horrible person? This to us. I've got a preposition there with a suffix on it. Then here's the rest of the word. And the lots they fell. And they fell. Third person masculine plural. He fell. Lower consecutive imperfect. And they fell the lots. This is goal, raw, low. He fell, third person's mask and scenery kept on falling. The lot, the ha-go-ro, the lot upon, preposition, page 755, Jonah. And the lot fell upon Jonah. They got an answer from God, they said. The lot fell upon Jonah. Jonah is the bad guy. He's the one that caused this storm. Remember, they thought that the Leviathans of the deep are the ones that stirred up all the storms. Now number eight, verse number eight, why Yerumu? Ilah ha-gidah nah lanu ba-asher lami ha-roah ha-ruah hazeth lanu ma mi-la-tikah. So we have to turn the page. Now they're getting answers. What's going on here? This guy must be a real bad criminal. He must be a assassin or something. Second person masculine singular, Cal imperative, or imperfect. And then what? A little interrogative there. Artisica. What is your land? Where do you come from? What land do you come from? This comes from Ares. What land do you come from? And then, then, we and from, it says here, Mize, and from this people, you. This people, Om, what is, the word Om there means what family are you from? Why are, why are you bringing all this evil upon us? What have you been doing? What is your occupation? Are you a killer? Are you a murderer? Are you an assassin? Are you a robber? Are you some wicked person? And then, verse number 9, וַיָּוֹמָר אַלֶהֶם אִבְרִי אֹנְוֹקִי וִיֵּאֶת הַבָּר אֶלֹהִי הַשְׁמַעִים אָנִי יָּרֵה אַשֶׁר אַשָׁה אֶת הַיָּם וִיֵּאֶת Now he's confessing. He's confessing. He's confessing that he knows the only true God. These other people are nothing but pagans. He said, I know the true God and I'm here and I'm the fault. He's after me. He's after me. unto them, third person, masculine, plural, preposition with the third person, masculine, plural. And then, Ifri. I'm a Hebrew. I'm a Hebrew. The Hebrew means from beyond the river. And in Genesis 1 and 1 it says, He's basically telling them about Genesis 1 and 1. In beginnings, He had created God, the heavens, the universe, and then He placed the earth in exactly the right place. He's telling them, this is my God, the one who created the heavens and the earth. And He has made, sign of direct object, the sea, ha-yom, the waters, and we-et, and then sign of direct object, and the dry land, and then ha-ya-ba-sha, and the dry land. He created the heavens, He created the seas, and He created the dry land. This is my God. This is who I am now. Immediately, they believed Him. There is no arguing with Him. What do you mean? Your God is Jehovah and He's the One who created the heavens and the earth. They didn't say that. They didn't start debating with Him. Theologically, they just believed Him. They believed Him. They believed. By the power of the Holy Spirit of God, this man was called to go to Nineveh. He did not go. He went down to Joppa and he paid the price of a ticket on this ship to Spain or Tarsus, Spain and Italy and that area. And he's on the boat there with them. And then God is causing this great storm and winds to blow upon them and they're scared to death. They know that the ship's going to be completely destroyed. They've already thrown over the valuable cargo that they've been paid to carry. And now they're trying to figure out who in the world what's caused this. And so they come to this guy. He said, it's me. It's me. I am Hebrew. I'm one of those people from beyond the river. And my God is Jehovah, the one that created the heavens and the earth. He's not your He's not your asterisk. He's not any of these other things that they started. He is not Venus. He's not Jupiter. He's Jehovah. And Jehovah is in control of these waters today. It's not a leviathan out there stirring up the deep. It's the God of heaven. That's the rest of the story. Our Father, we come to you, we thank you for your message, for your word. Help us to be obedient to you. Help us so we don't have to send storms in our lives or anything like that to get our attention. Or a big leviathan to swallow us and we die and go down to Sheol. Help us be hearers and listeners and doers for your honor and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, and please forgive me for our failure.
