Bright Lights in a Broken World
Series Philippians
Text: Philippians 2:14-18 | Speaker: Levi Bakerink | Description: After his powerful exhortation to "work out our salvation" in the power of God who both wills and works in us "for his good pleasure," Paul then turns to a very practical reality that concerns all believers: our witness in the world. He says that when we do these things (working out our salvation), we must do so "without grumbling or disputing" which are unbecoming of the Christian. Why is that? Because we are to be beacons of light reflecting God's holiness in a broken and twisted world. We can only do that without grumbling or arguing, but rather with humility and joy, holding fast to the word of life that is our salvation and our hope in the gospel of Christ. When we do so, the world cannot help but see our joy and be called to rejoice with us in our mighty Savior.
