From The Garden to the Scourging

What happened from the last supper through the scourging of Jesus Christ? What was the point in the crucifying Jesus? Why didn't they just stone Him? What damage did the leather whip do to His body? After what Jesus went through to pay for our sins, how could anyone reject His free gift of forgiveness and eternal life?
