The Jewish Trial of Jesus

Matthew is describing the last few hours before the crucifixion. After Jesus was arrested, He endured a series of trials – some before Jewish authorities and some before the Romans. The Jewish trial we'll learn about today was especially tragic. These men knew the law concerning trials. They knew the rules that were set up to protect the innocent and punish the guilty. And they knew the prophecies concerning the Messiah – they claimed to be looking for the Messiah.

And yet, they skipped over the rules, bypassed justice, and rushed headlong to condemn Jesus to the cross. They will be called to account for this one day, but Believers are the beneficiaries of God's sovereign grace and His permitting this to occur.
