And you maybe see it's required
in stewards, isn't it? That a man be found faithful. Faithfulness
is consistency, reliability, the know-so that if somebody
says so, they'll get that done. And it's a great thing if we
have faithful men and women in our church, the same commitment
out of faithful men who shall be able to teach others also.
And so it's a great need. The kids are now gone. And Daniel,
thank you for your ministry in my absence, and I wish we could
have been here to benefit from it, but everybody else did, and
I'm glad for your faithfulness there and the work that you did.
You weren't here Sunday because of COVID isolation. I'll just
make sure I say that, but thank you for what you did there. All
right, 1 Timothy chapter 4, and Verses nine through 11 is our
text tonight. Timothy chapter four, verses
nine through 11. And if you can remember back the past couple
weeks, we've been talking about choosing to live your life for
worthy things. And so things that are worthy
of your attention. your focus, your time, and your
investment, all right? A lot of times people can live
their life for a lot of things. Some people's lives is very sad.
If you go to their funeral, what you find out at their funeral
is that the best thing they have to say about them is about their
being a fan of some sports team or achieving something in life
that you just look at in the scope of entering into eternity
as something that they lived their life for that was really
kind of no big deal. And so it's very important for
us to look at our life and say, what am I living my life for? And so am I living my life for
worthy things? So we talked about... Choose to live your life for
worthy things, obtain a worthy goal. And so let's pick it up
at verse six, just to remember kind of what we looked at. Preach
the whole counsel of God as a parent, as anybody that's giving out
the word of God to anybody. Verse six, if thou put the brethren
in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister. And obviously the primary emphasis
is for a minister to do that with his congregation. But we
talked about how just anybody that we influence, anybody that
we're speaking to about God ought to hear from us everything about
the word of God. And that will make us a good
minister for Jesus Christ. Thou shalt be a good minister
of Jesus Christ growing in God's word. It says nourished up in
the words of faith. established in sound doctrine
and of good doctrine, mature in understanding, wherein to
thou hast attained. We talked about Timothy didn't
come to this right away. It was a process of time. We
don't expect somebody to enter into our church and right away
become a mature believer, but that there's a process of growth.
And then on guard against false teaching, but refuse profane
and old wives fables. So worthy goal is to get a correct
understanding of the word of God, rightly apply that to our
life and declare that to other people. And so obtain that worthy
goal. And then established in a worthy
walk is what we looked at a fortnight ago because of holiday for our
family. But we talked about being physically
disciplined. Because the Bible does say here
in verse 8, "...for bodily exercise profiteth little." There is profit
to it. And it's a comparison, so it's not saying that it doesn't
profit. It certainly does profit. We
talked about even ways that it's right for us to care for our
body because God's given it to us. We talked about Self-discipline
helps spiritual discipline. So that's a good thing. But the
spiritual discipline is the big thing. And so be physically disciplined
and spiritual disciplined. So practicing personal holiness,
verse 7, it says, unto godliness, for bodily exercise
profiteth little." In comparison to what you can get, and you
could get a lot out of physical exercise, you could get so much
more out of spiritual discipline and godliness. It benefits this
life, having promise of the life that now is. And we talked about
if you apply this to your life and you're a godly person, what
are you gonna have? You're gonna have a God-blessed marriage, you're gonna have a
God-blessed family, you're gonna be a God-blessed neighbor, You
could have a God-blessed church, if your church is truly godly,
and so there's benefits in life, and then reaping benefits in
eternity, having promise of the life that now is, and of that
which is to come. And we looked at 1 Corinthians
3, verse 12, and I wanna read it for us again. And it says,
now if any man build upon this foundation, gold, silver, precious
stones, wood, hay, stubble, every man's work shall be made manifest
for the day shall declare it because it shall be revealed
by fire. And the fire shall try every man's work of what sort
it is. Okay, so there's, it could be
something that's great, gold, silver, precious stones, or wood,
hay, and stubble, which is not great. And it's gonna be tested
by the fire. Verse 14, if any man's work abide
which he had built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If
any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss, but he
himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire. It'd be a very sad
thing to enter into eternity. You're saved, but the fire consumes
everything. I mean, that would be sad. But
if I'm living my life for that worthy goal of representing the
truth of the word of God to those that God has given to me, if
I am physically disciplined and I am spiritually disciplined,
then I'm already putting gold, silver, and precious stones aside
that are going to stand the test of that fire so that when I stand
before God there's going to be a reward. But what we're going
to look at tonight is also key to this idea of having something
that is very, very precious and real and lasting as we enter
into eternity. And so what we're gonna look
at tonight is accept a worthy truth, okay? So we've got a worthy
goal, a worthy walk, and tonight, a worthy truth, all about living
our life for worthy things. Let's pray and ask the Spirit
of God to help us as we come to the Word of God this evening.
Father, we thank you for the grace that you give. Thank you
for our time that we've already spent with you here this evening. And Father, for blessing our
song service. Lord, thank you for the excitement in the hearts
of the kids as they got up to go to their class. And for that
taking place right now, we pray that the Spirit of God would
bless Mrs. Shore as she guides in that time. We pray that their
hearts and minds would be tender and open to your truth. And Father,
those that are not yet saved, we pray they get saved. Father,
we've seen children, we've seen children in our family from the
age of four accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. And Father,
certainly at five, certainly at six, we've seen that. And Father, I just pray tonight,
would you do a precious work in their hearts and that they'd
have a really special class this evening, that there would be
a quietness in the hearts of the kids as they sit in class
and listen to the lesson this evening. And Father, in our time
together tonight, we're talking about vital truth. We're talking
about truth that we ought to live our life for, that we ought
to be able to see these things in our life. And I pray that
we can see the growth necessary to understand the Word of God
so that we can rightly present it to others. Father, I pray
for physical and spiritual discipline. in the lives of our congregation.
But then this truth that we're going to look at tonight is vital
as well as we focus in on the gospel. And so I praise Spirit
of God, would you bless as we come to this truth, may it be
anchored in our hearts and minds that, Father, we decide even
tonight that this is something worth living our life for. And
Father, I can't speak as Without your enablement, we can't listen
tonight without the same. And so I pray for that. I pray,
God, give us ears to hear. And Father, I pray that you give
me grace to speak. And I pray that I preach to the
best of my ability, the truth of the word of God. But Father,
my ability is nothing compared with your enablement. So I pray,
Father, that the spirit of God would enable me. And I pray that
I preach lovingly, biblically, practically, and powerfully the
truth of the word of God. And we thank you for it tonight.
It's in Christ's name we pray, amen. All right, accept a worthy truth. It says, this is a faithful saying,
verse nine, and worthy. Okay, as he says, this is a faithful
saying and worthy of all acceptation. Paul has already referred to
this truth back in chapter one of this letter to Timothy. And
so 1 Timothy 1, verse 15, it says, this is a faithful saying
and worthy of all acceptation that Christ Jesus came into the
world to save sinners of whom I am worthy. Okay, so we're going
to summarize with one word or this worthy truth, it is Jesus,
or it is the gospel, the good news about what Jesus Christ
did when he died on the cross for men's sins. And so what we
do with Jesus, makes all the difference in the world. If we
just take the truth of Jesus and convey it as we ought, that
makes all the difference in the world. Taking Jesus as our Savior
makes all the difference in the world. Jesus said in Mark 12,
verse 10, having not read this scripture, the stone which the
builders rejected is become the head of the corner okay jesus
is the head jesus is uh the cornerstone uh and uh and uh he's the he's
the cornerstone that the the religious people rejected uh
but that they should have accepted isaiah 28 verse 16 says therefore
thus sayeth the lord god behold i lay in zion uh for a foundation
of stone a tried stone a precious stone, a sure foundation, okay? He is the solid rock. If we want
to base our lives upon something, we ought to base our life upon
Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2 verse 20, are built
upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Jesus Christ himself
being the chief cornerstone. 1 Peter 2.6, wherefore also is
contained in the scripture, behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone
elect, precious, and he that believeth on him shall not be
confounded. Now the cornerstone sets everything
about that building or the structure that is going to be built. An architectural website had
this definition of a cornerstone. It says, in relation to architecture,
a cornerstone is traditionally the first stone laid for a structure,
with all other stones laid in reference. A cornerstone marks
the geographical location by orienting a building in a specific
direction. Everything else goes off of that.
So you get the cornerstone and that gets set right. Everything
else about that structure is going to be right. If that's
my life, my life's going to be right. If that's our church,
our church is going to be right based on whether or not our cornerstone
is right. Obviously Jesus, our cornerstone,
is the worthy truth that we're speaking about. Now humanism
has a cornerstone as well, and humanism's cornerstone is themselves,
right? They set their ideas of the parameters
of what is right. False religion has a cornerstone,
it's tradition, or human reasoning, or feelings. But again, Our cornerstone
is Jesus Christ, an infallible person of absolute truth. John 14 verse 6, Jesus said unto
him, but by me, okay? So somebody received Jesus Christ
as their savior, he becomes their cornerstone. He is set as a foundation
stone in their life. That's a worthy truth, okay,
that we're talking about this evening, Jesus and his death
and his resurrection for man's sin and to save men from their
sin. And so, accept a worthy truth,
and it's a truth that is without fault. Okay, so here we go. Verse
nine, a truth that is without fault. It says, this is a faithful
saying. All right, in our day, there
are a lot of things that are not faithful sayings, such as,
and I don't remember the exact date, March 20-something, the
mask mandate was to be done. But if you watched the news yesterday,
the goalpost has been moved, and that mask mandate continues. In our day, truth is under attack. It's always been under attack,
but in particular, it seems like in our day and currently, truth
is certainly under attack. We've got the Russian war propaganda. They're trying to justify the
incursion into Ukraine, saying that there was genocide that
took place by Ukraine. Obviously it's all false, but
they're putting that propaganda out there to justify their invasion. We live in the day of cancel
culture. That idea that we erase history if we don't like it.
If there's something that we disagree with, we just kind of
set that aside. We've got political parties that
no longer sound like politicians. They sound like children that
are arguing and fighting about their ideas. And so they will
speak about the same truth, but they'll speak from two opposing
viewpoints. We've got news media. Do you
believe that news media is unbiased or biased? It's biased and maybe
they're coming out strongly for their politicians or whatnot. And so we watch something or
we see something in this day and we ask ourselves the question
maybe, can I really trust that? You know, somebody says something,
you wanna maybe believe it for whatever reason, but you wonder,
can I really believe that? And you might find yourself saying,
who can I really believe? You know, in our day, who can
I really trust? And praise God, tonight, the good answer is God,
right? You can really trust God. We
have a God of truth who gave us a truth in a book. This is
a faithful saying. Numbers 23 verse 19 says, God
is not a man that he should lie, neither the son of man that he
should repent. Hath he said and shall he not do it? Or hath he
spoken and shall he not make it good? You know, if God has
said something, you can go to the bank on it because God is
absolutely faithful to that which he has said. Proverbs 12 verse
six says, the words of the Lord are pure words as silver tried
in a furnace of earth purified seven times. Thou shalt keep
them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever. 1 John 5 verse 20, and we know
that the son of God has come and hath given us an understanding
that we may know him that is true. And we are in him that
is true. Even in his son, Jesus Christ,
this is the true God and eternal life. And sometimes, as you do
evangelism, or as I've done evangelism, somebody will say to me, well,
you have your beliefs and I have mine, to each their own. As if it's true, kind of, if
you believe it. And it is true that we can have
our own beliefs. As anonymous, we agree with that, that somebody
has a right to believe as they want to believe, and that they're
not going to be coerced or forced to believe something, but all
beliefs are not equal. All things that we think are
right are not right. What matters is not what I believe,
but what is. True. All right, that's what
really matters. If you're standing on a beach
and in an area that is an island area that is prone maybe to earthquakes
and a tsunami siren goes off and you hear that siren, it doesn't
matter whether you believe or not a tsunami is coming, what
matters is, is a tsunami coming, right? What you believe doesn't
matter. What matters is what's true.
But the only thing that benefits you is if you believe it to be
true, you're going to flee the beach and get to a place of safety
when the tsunami comes. And so if it's truly coming,
you better believe it and get to safety. Tonight we understand
that hell is hot, and hell is eternal, and hell is real, and
heaven is gorgeous, and heaven is beautiful, and heaven is sinless,
and it's pure, and it's eternal presence with God, and that Jesus
Christ died on the cross to save men from their sin, that he didn't
stay in the grave, but that he rose again from the dead. And
we can say tonight, this is a faithful saying. And it's worth living
your life for a faithful saying, isn't it? Praise God. And so
let's live for that. It's a truth that is a faithful
saying. And there's a truth that can
benefit every man. It's a truth that can benefit
every man. It says, and worthy of all acceptation. This is worth every single person
on earth bowing their knee before God and saying, God, I accept
that. Thank you, Jesus Christ, that
you died on the cross for my sin. I was witnessing in Princess
Street Gardens yesterday morning. God gave me a great opportunity
to speak to a young lady named Anna, and she is from Switzerland. She's been here a couple of days,
I think. on holiday and she's very polite, very gracious. We
spoke for over 20 minutes and having a great conversation.
She said to me, she says, tell me, what do you really believe
you'll accomplish if you could convince everybody of what you're
trying to say? What would happen if you could
do that? And I said to her, well, no one
would die of cancer because they're smokers, right? because they're not going to
abuse the body that God has given to them. No one would be abused
by a drunkard or hurt themselves. Okay? So just down from us, there
are drunkards that, I mean, their lives are wrecked. It's sad. But that wouldn't happen if they
believed the truth about Jesus Christ. Everyone would tell the
truth. There would be no divorce. Marriages
would be strong. Men and women would be faithful
to their spouse and guard their marriage, right? And I said to
her, I said, but that's not life. When I speak like that, everyone
accepting that, what are we talking about? we're talking about heaven,
a place that is absolutely a perfect place where everybody, there's
not gonna be sin there in heaven. And again, she said to me, do
you really believe that could happen? Well, it can't happen
on earth, can it? But does God desire that for everybody? And
let me say, when you get saved, It's a little bit of heaven on
earth. It's not that it's going to be perfect. It's not that
you're going to never sin, but by the grace of God, you've been
forgiven. You begin with God's gift of everlasting life. You
have a right worldview. You can have a strong marriage.
You can have a strong family. You could be part of a strong
church, a strong community, right? And that is a wonderful thing. And would to God everybody had
that, right? But everybody doesn't have that.
But I'll say this, God desires everybody to have that. 1 Timothy
2, 4, God says in his word, who will have all men to be saved
and to come into the knowledge of the truth. God's desire is
for every single person to stop, look, and listen, and say, Jesus
Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. It's worthy of
all acceptation. They ought to receive it. They
ought to believe it. 2 Peter 3, verse 9, the Lord is not slack
concerning his promise, as some men count slackness, but is long-suffering
to us. We're not willing that any should
perish, but that all should come to repentance. How far has God
commanded us to take the gospel? Go into all the world and preach
the gospel to you. Think about it. Every creature. Why? Because it's worthy of all acceptation.
Now is that worth living your life for? I think so. I think it's worth living my
life for the gospel, for Jesus Christ, something that every
single person in this world ought to accept and ought to believe. You know, praise God, Jesus Christ
died for them. Now they might reject that. I witnessed the
three people yesterday that absolutely blasphemed God. But does Jesus Christ still love
them? Did he still die for them? Does he still want them to get
saved? Is the gospel message worthy of their expectation? Yes. And so again, it's a great
truth to live for. Let's live for it. It's a, it's
a truth that can benefit every man. It's a truth that's worthy
of effort. Okay. It's worthy of effort.
And if we ask the question about this truth, how vital is this
worthy truth that we're talking about Jesus Christ and the gospel,
how vital is it? Well, it's important enough that
God, the father sacrificed his son to secure it. John 3 16,
for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son.
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting
life. God saw it as so vital that he took his son and he crucified
his son. It's important enough that without
it, men will perish in hell. We've already touched this idea,
but it's fire, it's eternal, it's separation from God, it's
a pit. The sounds you'd hear in hell are weeping and gnashing
of teeth. It's eternal separation from God. That's how important
it is that somebody gets saved, because without salvation, that's
where they'll spend eternity. 1 Corinthians 118, for the preaching
of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto
us which are saved, it is the power of God. So somebody that's
gonna perish, they look at the cross and they say, that's foolishness.
It's worthy of their acceptation, but they rejected it. but it's
worthy of our effort to get the gospel to them because without
it, they'll perish and they'll spend eternity in hell. Verse
10, Paul said this, for therefore, because of the gospel, for that
worthy truth, we both labor. And he's gonna go on and speak
further, but we both labor. This is not true, but what would
you think if I told you this about the war taking place in
Ukraine? If I said this, Ukrainian soldiers
do not work on weekends. Or if I said, the emergency workers
in Ukraine are on strike. Or if I said, doctors have taken
their holidays during the conflict. I mean, your response would be,
you'd be irate. You'd say, how could they do
that? How could they go away from their
posts when people are perishing? Don't they understand that their
job is to seek to rescue these people? You know, praise God,
the response is actually the opposite of that. They don't
cease to labor, do they? They're getting very little sleep. Untrained
people are coming out of civilian life and getting into the military. Because they see what they're
doing is worth what? Effort, right? It's worth the
work that comes with it to defend their country and their democracy. You know, let me ask you tonight,
do you believe the gospel is worthy of labor? It's one thing to say it with
our lips. It's another thing to show it with our life and
to say, you know, I'm going to invest in this. I want to invest
my life in something for which Jesus Christ died. I want to
invest my life in something for which will save somebody. Somebody! from eternity in a lake of fire. Paul looks at this worthy truth
that we're talking about tonight. He says, you know, this is worth
labor. That's worth some effort. And then again, another truth
about this truth. It's a truth worthy of suffering,
worthy of suffering. It says in verse 10, for therefore
we both labor and suffer reproach, suffer reproach. You know, people
aren't going to pat you on the back and say, that's great. I'm
so glad that you've decided to live your life for Jesus Christ
and good on you. And that's great. And maybe somebody
that is a moralist might look at that and say, well, you're
making your life better. And they might say things like that.
But generally speaking, there's going to be a lot of people that are
going to oppose you. for speaking out against Satan
and his lies and standing for the truth of the Word of God. Many in his ranks, Satan's ranks,
are going to persecute you. The BBC Had an article on it
yesterday about the Russian TV journalist that protested on
Monday on live TV. She held up the sign that protested
against the war, no to the war, stop the war. And they cut quickly
from that to a recorded news report. It happened live on Russia's
main nightly news program, which is watched by millions. Before
the incident, she recorded a video in which she called events in
Ukraine a crime and said she was ashamed to work for what
she called Kremlin propaganda. I'm ashamed that I allowed myself
to tell lies from the television screen, ashamed that I allowed
Russians to be turned into zombies, she explained. We just silently
watched this inhumane regime. I can't say her name. She's got
a very Russian name. Said her father was Ukrainian.
Called on the Russian people to protest against the war, saying
that only they could stop the madness. And then she said this,
don't be afraid of anything. They can't imprison all of us,
she said. She was taken, she was abducted
by the police, basically. She was taken away without any
legal counsel. And for 13 hours, she was grilled.
She wasn't allowed to sleep. So when they interviewed her
yesterday or today, she just apologized, said, I'm sorry,
I haven't had any sleep, had to get some sleep. but she's gonna suffer
for taking a stand. But she looked at it and she
thought, you know, this is worth suffering for. She said to everybody
else, this is worthy of suffering. You know, I wonder tonight, if
we're not giving the gospel, why aren't we? And again, it
might be that point we already talked about. We're not, we don't
really want to labor. We don't really want to work.
We haven't viewed the gospel as important enough to put that
investment into it. But I think many times it might
be this idea of suffering that people look at that and say,
but I don't want to, I don't want to suffer for the gospel. It might be something like this.
What will people say? But you know, if I really come
out and stand up for the Lord Jesus Christ, what is somebody
going to say about me? Or what are they going to do?
Right? What are they going to think
about me? You know, it might be more than one person, peer
pressure, you know, a group of people. What are they going to
do or think about me? What about, how's it gonna make
me feel? Are they gonna do something to me? I mean, it's this idea
of fear of that, but as we think about that tonight, aren't you
glad that that wasn't a consideration for Jesus Christ before he died
naked as a thief on the cross because of our sin? That Jesus
Christ didn't look at it and say, well, that's not worth suffering
for. We ought to look at it tonight and say, you know what? This
is something that we ought to live our life for. We ought to labor for this. We ought to be willing to suffer
for this. Paul said, for therefore, because of this worthy truth
that's worthy of all acceptation, therefore we both labor and suffer
reproach, right? It's a truth worthy of suffering.
It's a truth given to us by the living God. A truth given to
us by the living God. It says because we trust in the
living God. We enjoyed our holiday. I haven't
talked to everybody about it, but it was great. God really
refreshed us. It was a wonderful time away.
I'd say it's one of the best holidays that we've had as a
family, just the place and everything about it. But the lady that owned
it, it had been a B&B, And then it became a self-catering cottage,
and so every room had an en-suite. It was really nice for a large
family to be there. But the lady whose family had
owned it, it was a family home, she lived right next door to
it. And so we weren't dealing with an organization, we were
dealing with an individual, and we were good guests there, but
I can imagine that if we weren't good guests, she might have come
over from next door and said, get out of my house. You can't
treat my house like this because we were dealing with a person
instead of an organization. Now I think an organization could
maybe sometimes care less about something maybe like that. As we think about what we've
been entrusted with, we're not dealing tonight with an organization.
Now, our church cares. Our church cares deeply about
the gospel, desires to get the gospel out. But what we are dealing
with tonight is a living God that is aware of what we do with
the gospel, that cares very much about the truth that he has entrusted
to us because we trust in the living God and that truth that
God has given to us. Jeremiah 10, verse 10, says, but the Lord is the true
God, and he is the living God, and an everlasting king. At his
wrath, the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be
able to abide his indignation. Our God, and you look at this
term in the scriptures, and I think it's there some 30 times, this
truth, the living God. He's a God that is very aware
of the gospel trust that he's given to us and what we do with
that. And Paul looked at that and said, we trust in the living
God. We look to the living God. And then it's a truth that will
save all men who believe. It's a truth that will save all
men who believe. It says, who is the savior. of
all men, especially of those that believe. All right, especially
means particularly, or perhaps we would say specifically. And
so if we put that this way, who is the savior of all men, specifically
of those that believe. All right, Jesus is the savior
of all men in that he is the only savior for all men and has
done all that is necessary to save every man. Does that make
sense? I can say it again if I need to. But He is the Savior
of all men, and that He is the only one who can save all men,
and that He has done all that is necessary to save them. But we know tonight that not
all men are saved, right? It says that He's the Savior
of all men, but that doesn't mean tonight that all men are
saved, and that's because all men have not believed on Jesus. Hebrews 4, verse 2. Says, for
unto us was the gospel preached as well as unto them, but the
word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith,
and then that hurt it. Now, we could go out tonight
and we could witness to a lot of people and we could share
the true gospel with them about the true Lord Jesus Christ. It's
a gospel that is worthy of their expectation, but it doesn't mean
that they are going to receive it unless they will believe it
and put their faith in Jesus Christ. Ralph Carmichael wrote
the hymn, The Savior is Waiting. It says, the Savior is waiting
to enter your heart. Why don't you let him come in?
There's nothing in this world to keep you apart. What is your
answer to him? Time after time he has waited
before and now he is waiting again to see if you're willing
to open that door. Oh, how he wants to come in.
If you'll take one step toward the Savior, my friend, you'll
find his arms open wide. Receive him, and all of your
darkness will end. Within your heart, he'll abide.
Time after time, he has waited before, and now he is waiting
again to see if you're willing to open the door. Oh, how he
wants to come in. Oh, how he wants to come in.
And see, it's worth living our life for a gospel that somebody's
gonna believe, as soon as they believe it, Jesus Christ enters
into their life. They have everlasting life. It's a gospel that can transform
their life. He is the Savior of all men,
specifically, or especially, of those that believe. And then
lastly, tonight, It's a truth that is not optional and is not
to be omitted. It says in verse 11, these things
command and teach. You know, I remind us tonight,
we've talked about this before, but the gospel is a command.
These things command, this gospel of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ,
worthy of all acceptation that is going to save all men who
believe in Jesus Christ, command it and what? Teach it. And so we're to put it out there
with authority, and we're to get it out there consistently.
You know, I have a question for you tonight, a few questions
here. Do people like absolute truth? Jesus is the way, the truth,
and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by him. This is an
infallible, authoritative book. Is that a popular idea among
men? If I shared this on the streets,
are people gonna embrace that and say, that's great, I really
believe in absolute truth? They're not. Do people like to be confronted
with their sin and think about hell? No, I mean, that's something
that they don't wanna hear about. They don't wanna hear about the
fires of hell. They don't wanna think about the coming damnation. And so
what should we do? Well, we should do what the word
of God says, right? These things command and teach. We've got a message that we ought
to live our life for and consistently share with these that need the
truth because God has entrusted it to our care and really commanded
us to carry the gospel to the world. There's a pastor that
I've enjoyed recently listening to. His name's Pastor Jerry Ross.
And I guess people that know him would think that he grew
up in a safe family, but he was actually born into a family where
his parents were totally clueless as far as God or the truth of
the Bible. But they had neighbors that were
burdened about them that would come over and invite them to
go to church and again and again invite them. And he said he thought
his dad had a book that said how to avoid going to church
or something like that, because he's just coming up with all
these different reasons not to go. And he said this couple just
wouldn't give up. And so finally they came one
day and they said, I tell you what, since you're not gonna
go, can we just take your kids? Can we take your kids to church?
And he said his mom got really upset. She was in another room,
came in and said, nobody's gonna take my kids to church. I'm gonna
take my kids to church or something like that. And so the next Sunday,
they all went to church with this neighbor family. And then
in a week of meetings, his dad on a Friday night went forward
and he got saved. Why? Because somebody lived their
life for a truth that was a vital truth. Right? And that encouraged me, and Molly,
that's really why, that was a message God used in my heart, even to
come back and knock on your door again, and praise God you guys
are here tonight, Nathan, you've trusted Christ as your savior.
That's vital, right? So we look at our life and think,
you know what? I've got next week, I've got
next month, I've got next year, I've got the rest of my life.
The gospel and Jesus Christ ought to be an important part of that.
Why? Because there's families that
need Jesus, right? It's a truth that needs to be
communicated because of all the things that we've considered
tonight. Obviously, I praise God tonight, everyone here has
accepted this as a worthy truth with regard to salvation as best
I know, right? But we ought to look at that
and say, by God's grace, I want to get that message of the gospel
out. Why? Because that's gold, silver,
precious stones. That's a worthy thing to live
your life for. You're not going to regret someday
when you get to heaven, oh man, I wish I hadn't lived my life
so much for the gospel. I think many people are going to get
there and think, man, why didn't I understand that that was a
vital truth worthy to live my life for? So God help us to do
that. Let's pray. Ask God to bless
this word to our hearts tonight. Father, we thank you for the
opportunity that we've had to look to the Word of God. And Father,
I just pray in your mercy tonight, would you touch hearts? Lord,
I know that we do evangelism as a church, and I praise God.
We've got people inviting people to church. We've got people giving
out gospel literature. We've got people that are speaking
to other people about faith in Jesus Christ and sharing with
them the truth. We've got other people that want
to learn this so that they can do this. That's great. Praise
God. And Father, I just pray for every person here tonight
that it just be a reaffirmation of our desire to say, you know,
I got to be involved in this. I can't go a week or two weeks
or three weeks without doing something to impact somebody
for eternity. And Jesus, you're the cornerstone.
You're the truth. You're the truth that is worthy
of all acceptation. And Father, I do pray tonight,
if anybody's hearing this message and they're not saved, Father,
pray that they'd get saved, that they'd receive the truth that
is so vital to their eternity. It's in Christ's name we pray.
Amen. Amen. All right. So praise God, the
gospel, worthy truth to live our life.
