Thank you for listening to Servants
for Christ. In all that we do, in all that
we say, we want to give glory and honor to our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. Thank you for tuning us in as
we get into the wonderful Word of God. For the next few minutes,
let's take the beautiful Word of God and share it with each
and every one of you as we have a sense of anticipation to take
the Word of God and to listen to its truth for each and every
one. This past week, there are some
words that begin to come to my heart. I was reading the passage
of 1 Samuel chapter 16, verse seven. And the word of God said,
but the Lord said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance or
on the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For
the Lord seeth not as man seeth, for man looketh on the outward
appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. Makes me think
of what Zachariah said one time, not by might nor by power, but
by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. As I read this scripture, It began to remind me that true
victory comes not from human strength, but through the power
of God, just as David's sling was guided by divine will. And so I began to think of a
writing, and this is what it was, the shepherd's sling. A little boy, wonderfully made. with faith unshaken, unafraid. He walked where giants dared
to tread and carried the hurt where the wounded bled. The fold
was far, the night was long, yet his heart beat steady like
a song. For though the wolves would prowl
and wait, he knew his God was never late. Don't let the enemy
see your fear. a whisper strong, so loud, so
clear. This stone that found its rightful
place was flung by faith, not might, nor chase. The Lord has
conquered time and again. He lifts the weak, he shames
the men, who trust in power, swords, and steel, yet crumble
at the shepherd's will. He changed the face of nations
wide with harp and song, with God as guide, a musician of heart. His hands did bring the bull's-eye
struck by a shepherd's sling, anointed where the pastors lay,
before the throne, before the fray, with all of heaven, strength
untold, a warrior's heart, yet tender soul, so let the giants
laugh and scorn. A greater strength in him was
born, for battles fall and kingdoms yield to the one who anoints
in the shepherd's field. you
The Shepherd's Sling.1 Samuel 16:7, reflects on the theme of inner qualities versus outward appearances. Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of David, Mercer emphasizes how God looks at the heart, not the outward stature or worldly measures of success. Through the metaphor of the shepherd's sling, the poem highlights the power of humility, faith, and courage, reminding readers that true strength lies in spiritual integrity and trust in God's purpose. It encourages individuals to embrace their inner qualities, as they are what truly define one's worth in the eyes of God.
